I went to elementary and high school with Robert Wone. This story is so sad and disturbing. We need justice for Robert.
This case has always disturbed me . They got off with murder

This breaks my heart because if Robert were to be white boy, the news would be all over the world. Every one knows it.

@@AlbertHess-xy7ky Great point. People don't want to believe that but it is true statistically. I blame "botched" investigations by LE in most cases. And before somebody jumps on me about my feelings on this know that I have friends and some family in law enforcement and they all agree with me.

This case is infuriating. I can’t believe these guys are just going on with their happy lives and no charges were brought on them even to this day.
I don't know if your screen name means you are a nurse or just a fun screen name but if you are a nurse what do you make of there not being any blood in the stab wounds? Do you think they could have been done postmortem?

They should all get arrested just for knowing who did it
I live a few blocks from where this happened and let me tell you, our local police were so very pissed off about this case. The crime lab took the place apart looking for evidence and just couldn’t find it.

How is it possible these men where not charged with at least obstruction? The judge was only on the bench for 1 hour and after being told of all the evidence proving someone cleaned up the mess. The lack of blood could be explained that a paramedic stated he looked “freshly showered” which would tell me at least he was cleaned after the murder. This is such a confusing and mind blowing case. These three had friends in all the right places.
That's exactly what they were charged with... I think they definitely should've been found guilty of _that!_
Cos they are part of the protected class in america, gay men with unnatural relationship arraingments and desires
I lean to the left and have absolutely zero issues with same sex marriage. With that being said, this case occurred prior to the country accepting gay marriage and gay marriage rights. I believe they really did have friends in high places. Had they been found guilty, the case would have shattered that political movement, and I truly believe the outcome was rigged for that reason.
Mr. Wone had such a gentle, friendly face.
Something very strange happened in that house that night. The police normally would separate the 3 parties, grill them unmercifully and intimate that one of them had rolled over and confessed. In this case you had educated, upper middle class men who (probably) lawyered up immediately and knew how to clean up.a crime scene.
But they didn't do it well. Police found blood in drain and dryer. Realized the knife at scene was wrong knife. I don't understand how judge didn't convict on obstruction. Clearly all this was done in an hour so they were all in on it.
One was a lawyer - and they all had money.
Exactly..there was obviously a cover up with a pay off to someone or several people.

They did separate all 3 during interrogation and one of them even failed a lie detector test. But they all stuck to the intruder theory and never wavered from that as the good ole Dr grande noted

He had no blood and had been thoroughly cleaned. Y’all mean to tell me that someone broke in the house, committed the horrible crimes, then cleaned up everywhere and showered the guy all without the 3 residents seeing any of it?? COME ON!!! What person would assume it could be anyone but at least one of the occupants of that house?
@@jeffc1753 Not only that, but the "intruder" apparently made the 3 men who loved together all take showers before the cops got there, as well!
I’m impressed they were able to keep a united front with the same ridiculous story. Usually somebody cracks and the whole thing comes apart.
That's what I was thinking. Unless all three participated in some way. They might not talk, then.
They all lawyered up immediately because the one was an attorney. They knew what to do. Keep your mouth shut and say nothing. I think the entire system needs an overhaul.

I've heard that apparently if there is more than one person involved that is equally as suspicious, said-persons would likely get away with it. Basically "reasonable doubt" and all that.
That's the scary thing. It's almost worth keeping an extra person as insurance. Also when there's more than one person, police can play "mind games" - like, "you better get your story in first" or pretending that someone has talked when they didn't. It's just an all around bad spot to be in! 😳
@@loretta_3843 I believe this is a case of all show & no go. The investigation was a sham … the trial was a foregone conclusion. The flawless execution of true untouchable perpetrators.
I guess the key to getting away with a murder is to invite some friends over while you do it. Good Grief.
It's so confusing how some cases can be made with circumstantial evidence and others can't. They should have been convicted of conspiracy or tampering even if they couldn't figure out which one did the stabbing.
I think the trio was not convicted because the defense attorney asked for a bench trial as opposed to a jury.
Even circumstantial evidence has to point to who committed the actual murder. The problem here is that the evidence trail basically stops at "Someone who lives in the house probably did it." Which of course leaves ample room for reasonable doubt.

I agree with you on the conclusion of the event, Dr. Grande. It’s frustrating that no one was convicted for the murder and the possible sexual assault. He was betrayed by his own friends/colleagues….
Doctor Grande one of the things you said several years ago has always stuck with me. "There is a big difference between."actual guilt" (what the defendant really did) and "legal guilt." Which is what can be proven in a court of law. This is most likely why defense attorneys don't ever ask their clients if they are "guilty!"What they ask is "can the prosecutors prove my client is guilty? That's the system and I remember you saying that a long time ago. So true and I've used that many times on the True Crime channels I follow! We are almost at 1 million Doctor Grande and you deserve 5 million!!! Great work you do for all of us! Thank you.
My heart just breaks for his wife. It is also astounding that everything that happened took only an hour, hour and a half? My recollection of the case is that Mr Price and the victim had a strong friendship that was of very long standing. Clearly, the three men each played some role. Just horrendous.
The moral of the story:
don't be in the same house
with more than one of your love-triangle lovers.

I think it's Dylan, given his "dominant" status and his defiant attitude when the police questioned him. The other two are clearly the submissives. He'll never be convicted, though, because he'll have them both "obeying" whatever he tells them.
I don’t know about that. I’ve met a lot of submissives who are actually the dominant partner in their relationship, and in some cases abusive.

Dylan was calm and detached, Joseph was defiant and dismissive.
The fact that Dylan said in the first police interview "i barely knew Robert" yes exactly, he out of all of them would have less qualms about killing him, he wasn't a dear friend. Whereas the other two were his friends, but also we're involved with Dylan; leaving them in between a rock and hard place: the perfect reason to obstruct justice. Dylan clearly enjoyed dominating people and inflicting pain on them as well as having the equipment to forcibly ejaculate someone as well as the equipment to inject it into him. What stranger brakes into someones house and forces them to ejaculate and inserts that into them and then leaves quietly? Also if an intruder did break in, he came prepared with the sexual items but didn't bring his own knife? He isn't interested in assaulting anyone else? Dylan had both the equipment that matches what was found to be done to Robert and he was the closest in proximity to the scene. Dylan was down the hall making him the only one that could get into the room Robert was sleeping in without making noise on the stairs. Dylan was also the only one who could not be accounted for because he was in his room (on the same floor as Robert) alone, while the other two were upstairs together. The way NEITHER of the other two would even admit that Dylan did at least have the access is strange. How can you vouch for someone with literally no proof of alibi? How can they say unequivocally Dylan was not in Roberts room when they are also admitting they were not only not with Dylan, but not even on the same floor. Also why was he freshly showered? The fact that the sexual assault was not taken seriously or even introduced into the court case is TRULY heinous.
This case made me so upset I couldn’t even finish watching the documentary. Justice for Robert

Thank you so much for covering this case Dr. Grande. I know about this case and it’s one of the most frustrating and compelling cases I’ve known of. It’s clear somebody in that house did it. Joseph price is a lawyer and will most likely know how to tamper with evidence effectively. Poor Robert will never get any justice, unless of course there’s a confession. I’m not holding my breath on that one, though. May Robert RIP. Great analysis as usual Dr. G
This is such a frustrating case, it must have been very disappointing for the judge as well as there was simply not enough evidence for a murder charge. The scary part is that whoever committed this horrific crime is still on the loose.😕

It is disturbing and frustrating to me that they didn't have a jury trial. They may have been able to fool ONE person (as in the judge) but I doubt they would have been able to fool 12 people on a jury. No wonder their defense attorney got them to go for a bench trial. It was their best shot. And it worked. Sadly.
I think they all played a part in this murder. That would explain why the cops couldn't get any of them to turn on the others. If one or two were innocent, one of them might have talked. They usually do.

Something similar happened in Chicago: A British man Andrew Warren traveled to Chicago in 2017 to meet a Northwestern microbiologist Wyndham Lathem as part of an elaborate, odd death pact for the pair to kill each other, but instead they stabbed the professor’s 26-year-old boyfriend Trenton Cornell to death and fled town.
I remember this story, I grew up in NOVA. I was hoping the perpetrators Price, Zaborsky, and Ward was going to jail for a long time
I swear, Dr. Grande has tapped into the internet ether and has somehow gained the ability to catch trends before they occur. Every time something triggers a thought in my head (most recently regarding this case) it’s as if Dr. Grande posts a video on the very topic within hours of my initial thought. Perhaps his calling was ‘content creator’ all along..

This wouldn't be the first case when a victim was infected with drugs and raped. There was a serial killer in the UK who was convicted of crimes against men and this MO was used.

This case is horrifically similar to the Stuart Lubbock case in Britain. It’s unbearably frustrating for the loved ones and my heart goes out to them. Thanks as always Dr Grande, one day I’d love to hear your opinion on the Body In The Pool series. Best to you and yours.🙏
Mr Lubbuck's body had substantial damage caused by forced insertion (of a plunger that subsequently went missing) in the rectum. He drowned in the hot tub, then was thrown in the swimming pool where he was "rescued" by a dodgy celebrity. The whole investigation was flawed, there were "experts" who got struck off for dodgy science. It doesn't sound that similar, except for the death and no one to date has been brought to justice.
I've seen a documentary on that case. Very similar. Straight guy in a gay context and inside job in both cases
@@anotherblonde it was a square handled floating pool thermometer. Which the autopsy confirmed matched his "horrific" anal injuries. It was photographed at the crime scene, by the pool, but then disappeared after Barrymore's male PA 'collected' items for his boss. Barrymore ludicrously said a hospital thermometer could have caused the injuries ( they're less than 1cm wide )
My theory is that Joseph, who knew Robert from college had a crush on Robert and lured him into the house to drug and rape him. Robert was given a knockout drug, however due to fear he would overdose didn't give him enough and Robert woke up while Joseph was raping him. A fight broke out, or at the very least he threated to go the police, Joseph panicked and stabbed Robert to death. Victor screamed when he saw what had happened. The rest of their time was used for all three to get their story straight. Normally, the more people involved in a crime increases the chances of someone slipping up and saying the wrong thing. In this case, there was a strength in numbers. Unfortunately for the victim.
If a fight broke out, Robert would've had marks displaying this, and it was proven that Robert must've been unconscious when he was stabbed because there was so little blood everywhere.
Maddening case... I think the real answer is even more twisted than that, and Dylan is my most likely suspect. They were on the same floor, just down the short hallway, they weren't close friends, he was missing a knife, etc etc etc.
Note to self: Never stay in a house with 3 or more people..
I think in most cases you'd be fine. Just avoid people who have machines dedicated to doing things to people's anuses.

You know, I was thinking of this case and how it'd be a good video idea, and lo and behold, here it is!
Hypothetically: If it was known with certainty that one of the men did it, but not which one, then divide the sentence into thirds: If the sentence would have been 45 years for a single guilty party, give each man 15 years. That's no injustice to the not-guilty members (if any): it's a 15-year sentence for conspiracy, after the fact. The guilty man gets off lightly due to his friends' support, but at least he goes to prison.

@@kkheflin3 Thanks! I don't have many. The conspiracy worked because they knew it would keep them out of prison. The legal system gave them the strongest motivation to stick with the conspiracy of silence. That motivation *must* be removed. In other words, could the conspiracy survive if the non-killer(s) ended up facing severe consequences, leaving only one escape route... to break their silence?
Unfortunately our justice system isn't that fair.
@@mjstow I think you are spot on. I wish the American justice "system" would ever consider such a thing. Do they do that in other countries? Does anyone know? The key to this entire case is in the conspiracy between the three. I can't believe at least one didn't flip. Part of the issue is one is an attorney and told the ones what to do to get around the "system."

Yes... unfortunately, there are some paralytic drugs that break down too fast to be caught in a toxicology report.

Victor was the the only one who seemed to have a normal reaction by being in tears. I think he will be the weak link and maybe given enough time he will be unable to live with the knowledge and spill the beans of what exactly happened.
It sounds like it was their compulsion for spilling their beans that got them into this mess in the first place.
I watched a documentary on this case several years ago. The issue that jumped out at me was they were never split up and interrogated???? Tough to turn one against the others in that situation. Plus with their background in law they probably knew better than to ever open their mouth and talk to the police and lawyered up immediately. It's tough for law enforcement to break someone and have them flip on the others in that situation. Very tragic and no justice whatsoever.

Or, he faked hysteria so he could hear the answers the other men gave to make sure he had the story straight.
All their reactions make sense, none are indicative of guilt or innocence. Self centered and aggressive could be due to hypervigilance. Tearful and unmotivated could be due to panic. Calm and detached could be due to emotional numbness.
I’ve listened to this a few times. Very interesting analysis and case. Thank you.

Extremely unusual for three individuals to keep to their story & not turn on one another after a time. Perhaps only one of them attacked. But seems highly unlikely that happened without waking the other two. TgT
I think the other two men were financially dependent on the dominant guy that owned the two homes. Maybe that motivated them, or maybe they're afraid of him.
He looks slightly built. Physically if one guy was muscular & taller/heavier you could possibly subdue him quietly & quickly, but a scream was heard.... In the very similar UK murder of Stuart Lubbock (3 gay men at gay star's house party, scream heard at 5am by neighbours) autopsy showed someone had knelt on his upper back.
Especially since they admitted to hearing the door chime. Yet the didn't hear the scream but the neighbors did?
@@Somegirl811 The guy that owned the two homes was the submissive, Joseph Price. Dylan Ward was the poorest financially of all 3, and he was the dominant.

This case just has red flags all over. I feel like the jump from zero to murder is a serious jump. I bet some of those guys' previous partners could speak to if they tended to get rough. It could be the victim was closeted and regularly visited these 'friends'. A situation must've rapidly escalated. If only we knew the motive.... Thank you, Doctor.

It's not just "someone, somewhere": we know exactly who knows the truth.
Truth eventually ALWAYS comes out, maybe down the road one of them will give up the TRUTH and justice will be served.
Yes, if they have a falling out in the future, and one or two of them are innocent, then they might talk. Unless all three were involved.

The 2 guys described as detached & calm & arrogant & aggressive after a body of a friend is found in your home is a very big alarm bell to me. The crying, hysterical guy seems a more normal reaction . Ok hysteria is extreme, but if you've a nervous disposition & never seen a dead body before, I could imagine that being your reaction. ( I tend to go white as a sheet & ultra quiet when scared or freaked out).
People think that is the normal reaction because that is how it is portrayed in movies. In fact I suspect many real-world hysterical reactions are affected to align with those media-driven expectations.
@@eadweard. true, but I was in a 33 storey building on the 17th floor when fire broke out on the floor below. (10 years after 911). At first people were calm. When the boss noted 10foot high flames shooting past his window & over rode the tannoy instructions to stay put, panic was most people's reaction. Normally calm, confident people who nothing ruffled, ran like **** for the stairs. I felt numb disbelief & went ultra quiet & went down 16 flights of stairs so fast I got dizzy . My reaction isn't typical though. And bugger "staying put". That's how people died in 2 building fires a few years ago in London. The stairs were clear, but firemen they met going down said go back to your apartment. The Dubai system were everyone gets a text alert & is out in under 6mins is proven to work. Edit: being upset is more normal than being aggressive, calm & detached. As a teacher for 20 years I witnessed quite a few serious playground accidents & went to A&E with kids & their parent so I've seen reactions in extreme situations.
Sometimes people get “hysterical” to prevent questioning or to give themselves time to come up with answers to questions.
@@sarahholland2600 Excellent points. As a teacher for 30 plus years I have seen very similar situations. People who appear to be completely neurotypical suddenly become erratic and hysterical and their entire personality changes in a crisis. That "fight, flight, or freeze" is a key element in whether people survive in many cases. In your own case thank God you chose "flight." Most likely saved your life!
@@kkheflin3 I've heard an interesting extension to describe common reactions to a threat or crisis. It's "fight, flight, freeze, fright, faint, appease".

I think this case will eventually be solved. Relationships are funny things. Jealousy and the like; the family will eventually break up and that's when the truth will come out.

Name-calling rarely gets anyone to listen to anything one says and it's not an effective method of communication I have found in life. I'm always amazed when people come off in such an aggressive manner right off the bat and resort to name-calling and then think anyone will listen to anything they say! In addition, for the most part, people like this need to go find another channel because I feel as if we have a somewhat tight "community" here and we all try to use reason. Just because someone disagrees with another commenter doesn't mean they need to attack them.

One of the men was a lawyer. This is what happens when one man has no shame at all about telling lies and is in a position to outsmart both police and judiciary (both of whom clearly did not try so hard after all. Did they grill the 3 men SEPERATELY and catch the inconsistencies in their three stories? Obviously not! That’s how it’s done.) The three murderers are equally guilty irrespective of who wanted sex with Robert and got angry when Robert did not agree to whatever he had in mind. Disgusting failure of law enforcement simply because clearly it is possible for people to escape punishment if they synchronise stories quickly and then lawyer up immediately.

I’ve never really understood why Wone stayed with his old college friend that night. They say he was there because he worked late that night- which I believe was verified he was at work late, but, He lived less than a half hour away from work at Radio Free Asia. He worked late, but staying w friends in Logan Circle area was maybe cutting 15 minutes from his commute each way. He did nothing wrong. I’m just saying there might be something we don’t know about why he stayed with his friend that night.
He supposedly didn't wanna wake his wife, who had to get up really early in the morning... and, apparently, the place he stayed is very, very close by his office, so it took just a minute or two to get there. He would've had to take the subway home that night, I believe it was said.
I dont think he was staying there for any sexual affair. Seems like he took a shower and went to bed immediately when he got there.

Perhaps one of the most upsetting and disgusting case I've ever seen, disgusting because of how blatantly justice was not served and these three murderers are free. I've seen so many cases where in fact evidence and the truth behind the actual crime was hard to decipher and yet we get good convictions in those cases anyways. This crime was clear as daylight and yet somehow the judge say there was NOT enough evidence to prosecute. I want to know exactly what evidence is missing in her mind. An "intruder" will come into the night exactly the only day Robert visits his "friend" and kills him only after 30 minutes entering the townhouse? In fact, I don't believe Robert even showered or typed those message in his Blackberry. The very minute Robert sent the email to Joseph Price the psychopath, his death warrant was sealed. I believe Joseph had already had some "ideas" of experimenting with Robert in his mind even before his arrival. When Robert got there, he probably gave him some wine or drink spiked with a sedative and when incapacitated, experimented on his "friend" the electro devices. Perhaps murder wasn't on his mind in the beginning but it led to that fearing possibly his lawyer license may be at jeopardy. It's truly sad knowing none of them were convicted when the evidence was beyond overwhelming. This case makes me so sick to my stomach I wished I've never knew about it.

I think they drank, joked, and talked about the assault, then, one or two of them committed the assault. Then, the third one went along because he was either a coward or was afraid he'd be charged as an accessory to the murder. Someone wants to talk but is too afraid.
To me it does make sense that they switched knives. The apparent murder weapon came from Dylan's room; that would implicate him or one of the other residents. They thought a knife from the kitchen could support their story of an intruder.
Investigators interrogate the individuals separately, their goal is to find inconsistencies in their answers and try to peat them against each other. At some point someone will break down and admit and or expose the others involved in the crime. These interrogators have to be very good at what they do to be able to extricate the truth. There's also the plea deal that's laid out on the table as an incentive to admit the truth.

We’re they able to test the semen found in his rectum? Should’ve found some type of DNA on his body? On the inside or even the outside of his body somewhere? Who was he intimate with before his death?
Very sad case for sure? Someone got away with murder and I hope one day someone speaks up or comes clean?
The semen in his rectum was his own, which makes me think he was drugged, sexually assaulted in a way that ended in ejaculation, and then penetrated with an object that did not leave DNA.
