What a life, she never had one! I'm glad I don't put out. I dated an Autogynephile accidently. No kids then ESCAPED. He's a doctor. Horrifying narcissists.
This case had a lot of interesting angles. It’s sad how Richard perpetrated the violent 9behavior he learned at the hands of his father on Karen. It’s also sad that Karen couldn’t seem to get away from the relationship, even though she knew almost from the beginning that marrying Richard was a bad idea. Thanks for analyzing this one Dr. Grande-and thank you for lightening the subject up with your trademark humor.
Three words "battered woman syndrome". Yes, it's actually a thing. And yes, it's explains a lot about Karen's behavior through out her relationship with her husband. Including the fact that she unfortunately lost her life after he lost his control over her. Control he thought of as absolute. Meaning that she wouldn't use the fact that he'd most of his wealth over to her (as a measure for to fight being sued for malpractice) to finally get away from him.
Being a cross dresser should have been the first sign there were mental issues. We all have a history and for many of us it is traumatic but that does not give anyone the right to be abusive. This guy even looks scary.
I watched this case many years ago on Court TV. Even after all this time, I still remember how strange Sharp was and how on the stand at trial how he kept his eyes closed the entire time when being questioned. His wife appeared to be such a nice and good person, who got messed up w the wrong guy. Her life must have been sheer hell.
Very good explanation. Esp about why Karen stayed with the rancid creep. Here in the UK, police can refuse to drop violence charges esp if they believe the victim has been coerced or manipulated into withdrawing the complaint. I wish the cops had charged him at the outset anyway. I hope their children have since thrived.
So. Please take this with a grain of salt. This is my first video of yours. I love true crime. And I hate asmr. But after watching your video I get it. The way you speak is so calming and comforting. Clearly a smart guy, but a miserable human being. I wonder how his life would have turned out if he had been raised in a loving, supportive environment.
He would have had a much better chance of not being what he turned out to be. Becoming a narc is a choice they make. It's nut curable and they will likely never be anyone different that how they are. They are very sick and dangerous people. I pity anyone who ends up with one.
He was a muring , abusive POS. Just because he was a cross dresser doesn’t mean he deserves pity. His poor wife is the one that deserves pity not that self scented psychopath.
I wonder how his (and other people's) lives would have been immeasurably better and happier if not for the Cult of Intelligence/ Cult of Death (CIA, DoD and pals)?
Dissociation is normal for everybody to experience in small amounts. I've never heard of anyone who believes it doesn't exist. That being said, it's a stupid defense for murder. Most people dissociate at the movies, for example, because you can feel like that two hour movie "flew by" (if it was good lol). You don't lose your sense of right and wrong in that moment. How absurd.
Truth! It's a weird feeling when it happens. Sometimes, putting myself into loud, bustling, crowded, situations can do it for me. It doesn't happen often, but it's a strange experience when it does.
How many times did you have to shoot all the words with "f"? You've done an outstanding video. I don't think I could have ever gotten through those perfect words with a straight face if I could have done it at all. I know you analyze serious situations but I appreciate your humor.
Dr. G. This was a story I've never heard before. Good one. No pun intended. I don't want to seem morbid. But Hollyweird hasn't nothing on your stories Dr. G.😉👍🏾
I think you hit this one out of the park. Loved the many puns about 'skin' being he was a dermatologist! You may not smile much but you definitely have a sense of humor. Love it.
A true narcissistic sociopath. He lacked so much self awareness that he didn’t realise he was making Karen and their home like how his dad did. You’d think him being that smart, he would recognise and try and break the chain
Agreed. Narcissists don't have the ability to do this though. They're essentially weak overgrown children who refuse to accept responsibility for their wrongs (even the fairly self aware ones.)
I loved the alliteration run, very cool. I also dislike Christmas, but I don't try to make it miserable for anyone else, mostly because the reason I dislike Christmas is because my abusive former step-father used to do that.

The cyclical trend of high functioning abusers has been driven by generations of entitlement. The lack of empathy and awareness about the damage done to the lives of the people who are victims is so tragic, as is obvious from this person who had to grow up with it. It is sad that people who have money don’t use it to get help for themselves and their families.
In many ways these situations are replay of the slave culture that is part of American history. Someone feeling that they're the master and that they, through Terror can enslave those less powerful. The damage is lifelong. Often collusion protects the perpetrators, perfectly.
I used to converse with him while he was in prison. I was a psych student and told him I wanted to write about him. Good evening Dr. Grande. As always an excellent analysis. My question is why do women( including myself back in the 90s) stay with me who are abusive? Have a wonderful week.
No doctor here. Was in an emotionally abusive relationship and I can tell you that women stay because they dont think they deserve better. Very low self esteem. Along with never having a healthy relationship with a man in their lives (fathers, step fathers…etc)
If you respect and love yourself you would not stay in such a relationships We want to be validated and to be loved but inwardly we do not feel we deserve love Past abuse makes this much worse Co- dependence tend to attract abusive Narc relationships We think if we just love more and harder and do more then this person who is abusing us will see the light and wake up and love us Sadly this does not work All we can do is get out ,heal and move forward
At one time I had the opportunity to fill-in for his regular secretary when he was a dermatologist. He was very demanding and rude. We witnessed him demeaning his wife Karen in front of everyone. She was so kind and sweet. May she rest in peace.😥🙏🏻💜
I can relate to Harry. My mom died (cancer) when I was 15, and I didn't believe she was gone, either. I went through years of numb denial, which I guess could have been lessened with some family counseling. (My family didn't believe in therapy, either). Some early intervention could have spared Harry (and myself) from some future problems.
Not disputing that could be the case (as is often the case), but I did not pick up any clues to that one. This one is probably more complex that simple autogynephilia, he appeared to have a deep-rooted misogyny (as many of them do), plus add into the mix an extreme narcissist (probably NPD) and domestic abuser. Seemed like a volatile cocktail going on. Deep-rooted misogyny can also be 'failed masculinity' as well, the so-called beta male trying to make alpha. More layers to this one than an onion tbh. But misogyny is definitely in the mix.

your spin on the best police officers had me laugh out loud :D Thanks Dr G!
The important angle not mentioned is SIN.
I don't understand how people are so willing to blame violence on their past....you are not your past. He made these choices.
@@farmerchick3040 his past made him a wacko but he chose to pull the trigger.
💖 your analysis Dr. Grande. So very sad for his wife and children. 😥
Being a cross dresser should have been the first sign there were mental issues. We all have a history and for many of us it is traumatic but that does not give anyone the right to be abusive. This guy even looks scary.
Amazing that someone could have so many personal things going on in his life including addiction and at the same time be so successful in business.
Same! His testimony was creepy as hell. I'll never forget it.
*Sharpe
Ditto! Absolutely one of the strangest defendants of all the trials I've followed on Court TV. If creepy was a person.
He probably kept his eyes shut because he thought if he couldn’t see you then you couldn’t see him. Classic baby man narcissist.

Clearly a smart guy, but a miserable human being. I wonder how his life would have turned out if he had been raised in a loving, supportive environment.
I wonder how his siblings are doing?
A surprising case, always interesting to learn from Dr. Grande, and this time with poetic tongue twisters thrown in! Thanks Dr.
Excellent job on the tongue twisters Dr Grande. Your humour is much appreciated.😂
Could it get any drier? I need some water.
I have it after being sexually abused as a child. It’s a horrible condition..

Dr. G. This was a story I've never heard before. Good one. No pun intended. I don't want to seem morbid. But Hollyweird hasn't nothing on your stories Dr. G.😉👍🏾
Really enjoyed your alliterative analysis -- certainly it yielded more truth than poetry...
Intelligence is nothing without character and morals.
I loved the alliteration run, very cool. I also dislike Christmas, but I don't try to make it miserable for anyone else, mostly because the reason I dislike Christmas is because my abusive former step-father used to do that.

What did he think taking his wife's birth control pills was going to do for him? I totally get where she was coming from in terms of not wanting to admit failure to her family. What a tragic case. Who needs to research for a college paper when we have dr Grande 😊

Ah, plastic surgery. I was wondering how he looked more like Cher than a cross dresser does when they're actually trying to look like Cher.
I used to converse with him while he was in prison. I was a psych student and told him I wanted to write about him. He called the murder "the tragedy," claimed he did not remember anything from it, and asked me if I would contact a person he was dealing with from 20/20 news show and vouch for his character 🤔

Or maybe just that he’s threatened to kill you and the kids if you dare ever try to leave.

Very interesting AND educational.
Autogynephilia strikes again.
True
Not disputing that could be the case (as is often the case), but I did not pick up any clues to that one. This one is probably more complex that simple autogynephilia, he appeared to have a deep-rooted misogyny (as many of them do), plus add into the mix an extreme narcissist (probably NPD) and domestic abuser. Seemed like a volatile cocktail going on.
Deep-rooted misogyny can also be 'failed masculinity' as well, the so-called beta male trying to make alpha. More layers to this one than an onion tbh. But misogyny is definitely in the mix.
Had to look that up, autogynephilia.
