I dated one that left to blow his married boyfriend that wanted to get rid of me then he punched HIMSELF in the face so he could claim he was defending my honor and could garner sympathy. He would have had a much better chance of not being what he turned out to be. Becoming a narc is a choice they make. It's nut curable and they will likely never be anyone different that how they are. They are very sick and dangerous people. I pity anyone who ends up with one.

I think you hit this one out of the park. Loved the many puns about 'skin' being he was a dermatologist! You may not smile much but you definitely have a sense of humor. Love it.
This case had a lot of interesting angles. It’s sad how Richard perpetrated the violent 9behavior he learned at the hands of his father on Karen. It’s also sad that Karen couldn’t seem to get away from the relationship, even though she knew almost from the beginning that marrying Richard was a bad idea. Thanks for analyzing this one Dr. Grande-and thank you for lightening the subject up with your trademark humor.
Three words "battered woman syndrome". Yes, it's actually a thing. And yes, it's explains a lot about Karen's behavior through out her relationship with her husband. Including the fact that she unfortunately lost her life after he lost his control over her. Control he thought of as absolute. Meaning that she wouldn't use the fact that he'd most of his wealth over to her (as a measure for to fight being sued for malpractice) to finally get away from him.
I watched this case many years ago on Court TV. Even after all this time, I still remember how strange Sharp was and how on the stand at trial how he kept his eyes closed the entire time when being questioned. His wife appeared to be such a nice and good person, who got messed up w the wrong guy. Her life must have been sheer hell.
Very good explanation. Esp about why Karen stayed with the rancid creep. Here in the UK, police can refuse to drop violence charges esp if they believe the victim has been coerced or manipulated into withdrawing the complaint. I wish the cops had charged him at the outset anyway. I hope their children have since thrived.
Dissociation is normal for everybody to experience in small amounts. I've never heard of anyone who believes it doesn't exist. That being said, it's a stupid defense for murder. Most people dissociate at the movies, for example, because you can feel like that two hour movie "flew by" (if it was good lol). You don't lose your sense of right and wrong in that moment. How absurd.
Truth! It's a weird feeling when it happens. Sometimes, putting myself into loud, bustling, crowded, situations can do it for me. It doesn't happen often, but it's a strange experience when it does.
How many times did you have to shoot all the words with "f"? You've done an outstanding video. I don't think I could have ever gotten through those perfect words with a straight face if I could have done it at all. I know you analyze serious situations but I appreciate your humor.
I loved the alliteration run, very cool. I also dislike Christmas, but I don't try to make it miserable for anyone else, mostly because the reason I dislike Christmas is because my abusive former step-father used to do that.

The cyclical trend of high functioning abusers has been driven by generations of entitlement. The lack of empathy and awareness about the damage done to the lives of the people who are victims is so tragic, as is obvious from this person who had to grow up with it. It is sad that people who have money don’t use it to get help for themselves and their families.

Not disputing that could be the case (as is often the case), but I did not pick up any clues to that one. This one is probably more complex that simple autogynephilia, he appeared to have a deep-rooted misogyny (as many of them do), plus add into the mix an extreme narcissist (probably NPD) and domestic abuser. Your content has exceeded expectations as always, Dr.Grande 💜
A surprising case, always interesting to learn from Dr. Grande, and this time with poetic tongue twisters thrown in! Thanks Dr.
Clearly a smart guy, but a miserable human being. I wonder how his life would have turned out if he had been raised in a loving, supportive environment.
I wonder how his siblings are doing?
He would have had a much better chance of not being what he turned out to be. Becoming a narc is a choice they make. It's nut curable and they will likely never be anyone different that how they are. They are very sick and dangerous people. I pity anyone who ends up with one.
He was a muring , abusive POS. Just because he was a cross dresser doesn’t mean he deserves pity. His poor wife is the one that deserves pity not that self scented psychopath.
I wonder how his (and other people's) lives would have been immeasurably better and happier if not for the Cult of Intelligence/ Cult of Death (CIA, DoD and pals)?
So. Please take this with a grain of salt. This is my first video of yours. I love true crime. And I hate asmr. But after watching your video I get it. The way you speak is so calming and comforting. I like to listen to cases to help my insomnia. You my clinical diagnosistian friend, have a new subscriber
Amazing that someone could have so many personal things going on in his life including addiction and at the same time be so successful in business.
The important angle not mentioned is SIN.
I don't understand how people are so willing to blame violence on their past....you are not your past. He made these choices.
@@farmerchick3040 his past made him a wacko but he chose to pull the trigger.
Same! His testimony was creepy as hell. I'll never forget it.
*Sharpe
Ditto! Absolutely one of the strangest defendants of all the trials I've followed on Court TV. If creepy was a person.
He probably kept his eyes shut because he thought if he couldn’t see you then you couldn’t see him. Classic baby man narcissist.
Excellent job on the tongue twisters Dr Grande. Your humour is much appreciated.😂
Could it get any drier? I need some water.
I have it after being sexually abused as a child. It’s a horrible condition..
@@jakethedude100 have what?

Really enjoyed your alliterative analysis -- certainly it yielded more truth than poetry...
This as always was excellent Dr Grande. Your compassion shows through without compromising your professionalism. ❤️ From Oz🐨
Your step-father used to make Christmas miserable?
@@lindseyhendrix2405 yeah.
had his father not so abusive what kind of person would he have really been?
Nothing better than seeing an upload from Dr. Grande - let’s get to speculating!
Despite your deadpan demeanour/demeanor, listening to your analysis, Dr. Grande, is like tuning-in to story-time! Subject matter aside, you are able to make your analysis an enjoyable listen with your highly honed wordsmith skills -- the many word-plays, and, as with here, throwing in a good smattering of alliterations, always make me smile. 👍Thank you.
The most dangerous time is when you are leaving 💢😡
Love your new set, especially the lighting!
At one time I had the opportunity to fill-in for his regular secretary when he was a dermatologist. He was very demanding and rude. We witnessed him demeaning his wife Karen in front of everyone. She was so kind and sweet. May she rest in peace.😥🙏🏻💜
feel so bad for the children, sounds very hard to cope with
"There's only room for ONE dress in this closet!"
After Dr G said he started taking her birth control pills..I went right to the comments
Autogynephilia. He probably thought it was akin to HRT.
Dude no kidding! I was across the room from my phone and said “oh what the f?!” And immediately ran over to rewind and I’ve been in the comments ever since 😂

I remember watching his trial on Court TV year's ago. Very bizarre.
I remember too because he acted so ridiculous throughout!
Now I wanna see it
Dr. G. This was a story I've never heard before. Good one. No pun intended. I don't want to seem morbid. But Hollyweird hasn't nothing on your stories Dr. G.😉👍🏾
Who needs to research for a college paper when we have dr Grande 😊
A true narcissistic sociopath. He lacked so much self awareness that he didn’t realise he was making Karen and their home like how his dad did. You’d think him being that smart, he would recognise and try and break the chain
Agreed. Narcissists don't have the ability to do this though. They're essentially weak overgrown children who refuse to accept responsibility for their wrongs (even the fairly self aware ones.)
Great use of alliteration! I love your dry sense of humor.
Omg-the alliteration about the fork cracked me up. I had to tap back at least 3 times to hear it again!
Again I love your delivery and story telling. Such a sad case.
Hi Dr Grande, I watch you every time you come home. I just think you are so smart and I love your dry sense of humor. I get happy when I see you have a new vlog. Have a blessed day
Thanks Dr. Grande. Much appreciation for your coverage of the story.
What did he think taking his wife's birth control pills was going to do for him? I totally get where she was coming from in terms of not wanting to admit failure to her family. What a tragic case. I think that Richard was brilliantly insane. It sounds like he had narcissistic rage for sure amongst other psychological conditions. I feel bad for their children.
He probably had some delusions that taking female hormone treatments would make him a real woman. Typical autogynephile Ed Gein logic.
@@wormwoodcocktail I think you nailed it. I don't know why I didn't think of that. lol
@@dissidentfairy4264 I have a PhD in the behaviour of weird perverts. You didn’t think of it because you’re a normal person.

Definitely going to do so after finishing this! And high five for the same last name!! 😂🙏🏽
I used to converse with him while he was in prison. I was a psych student and told him I wanted to write about him. He called the murder "the tragedy," claimed he did not remember anything from it, and asked me if I would contact a person he was dealing with from 20/20 news show and vouch for his character 🤔
What vibes did you pick up? Was he charismatic, creepy, credible, manipulative?
@@An_Drea_Calling extremely intelligent, highly manipulative, and very charismatic.
@@anotherlittlepieceofmyart Thanks! Oh man... the perfect mix. Must have been scary and fascinating to speak with someone like him. At the same time, I hope I never come across someone like that in real life.
@An_Drea_Calling It really was. I was shocked that he wrote back, and did it so quickly. I had written to several high profile inmates and he was the only person to reply. He is a fascinating person. I still have the letters and hoped to put a book together, but I never noticed a lot of interest in the case.
Nice channel 😊
"But he made their skin crawl" Oh how ironic! He failed as a Dermatologist, then. :P
Dr. Grande, could you address the question: have there been studies on how often those with narcissistic personality disorder commit suicide? Thanks!

In many ways these situations are replay of the slave culture that is part of American history.
Someone feeling that they're the master and that they, through Terror can enslave those less powerful. The damage is lifelong.

I have a trans sister who has other mental health issues as well. On top of my mom being a very cold person, she would also say that she wished she had a girl and would mention the name she had in mind. Now my sister goes by that name.
Maybe people are “born” trans like they say, but I believe it can also be a response to trauma during childhood.
The psychological aspects of some people's cross dressing or gender dysphoria is very interesting.
@A H no, it isn't.
@@user-account-not-found I'm Gen X and childfree, currently single. I'm heterosexual, but I'm very happy now single, not dating. It doesn't surprise me at all if young kids chose to be childfree and I think it's healthy to not be promiscuous. There are too many STD's and the risks of unwanted pregnancies. That kids chose celibacy doesn't mean they're not dating (I chose not to date, hence celibacy for me). I've been there, done that. Not interested in wasting my time on men who doesn't deserve it. Autogynephilia strikes again.
True
Not disputing that could be the case (as is often the case), but I did not pick up any clues to that one. This one is probably more complex that simple autogynephilia, he appeared to have a deep-rooted misogyny (as many of them do), plus add into the mix an extreme narcissist (probably NPD) and domestic abuser. Seemed like a volatile cocktail going on.
Deep-rooted misogyny can also be 'failed masculinity' as well, the so-called beta male trying to make alpha. More layers to this one than an onion tbh. But misogyny is definitely in the mix.
Had to look that up, autogynephilia.
