  • In 1983, Kenner Toys released an awesome thing upon the world. The Knight Rider 2000 Talking K.I.T.T Car.
I never had one and found it at a thrift store for 3 American dollars! I bought batteries and rushed home to play its talking feature.
    It didn't work.
Disappointed but not totally unhappy I posted it on FaceBook. Explaing to people it didn't work, I caught the attention of toy enthusiasts, RETROBLASTING.
    / retroblasting
They informed me there was a record player inside.
My interest peaked, I began taking it apart.
It seems many people are running into variations with this talking car. I'm putting other people's experiences from UA-cam as I find them, right here.
You may wish to check these repair videos out as well.

The scanner could probably be modified and upgraded to work, the car is large enough to accommodate the necessary parts to make it work. I have such great memories of this car, it was my holy grail back then and I'll never forget the birthday when I got it.

I guess I really don't need to say, ya know how awesome that would be? I think If I knew what I was doing everything would have a scanner. Refrigerator, Dog collar, toilet

LOL. don't forget the ejector seat. ;-) If it were me I'd research it a little to see if I could find someone who can do that to KITT models, I'm sure there's plenty of fans out there that are in the know about that stuff who could do it. You're making me want to track down one of those KITT's along with the Michael Knight it came with, mine sadly disappeared long ago.

That's awful. Maybe it'll turn up somewhere weird and you'll be reunited. all three of you.
That's still awesome birthday memories. I only got the pounding lever set where kitt goes through the side of the big rig trailer. I was always fine with having just that though. I did snoop Facebook market place for early 80s beater Pontiacs though. I tried to talk myself into a slow project car. Rrrrrrrright.
I can't even start that. That would be very financially irresponsible of me.

Great video. I used blue painters tape at the bottom of car while i pried the tabs off using a plastic tool I have to remove interior parts from cars. My voice box had a plastic bag covering it and not as many screws. Also my motor spindle was smooth.

my wife found mine for a quarter at a rummage sale. its in remarkable shape. just for your info, theres a lever underneath, that lever i thought was an on/off switch, nope its a speed adjustment, so you can move the lever forward or back just the littlest bit to make the record go faster or slower so you can understand the voice better. YOUR CAR DONT SHOW 1 BUT IF YOU GO TO THE 3;01 MARK, YOU SEE THE BLACK ROUND SLIDER AT THE LEFT OR FORWARD POINT OF THE SLIDER. 1 explanation was as the battery wears down you can make it play a tad faster. thank you for posting this video, now i'm not afraid to take the player apart. as i had no sound, i took out the battery that had a bit of corrosion, cleaned that up still no sound. all car years are different, mine has 1 c cell battery, but i'v heard some have 2 double a batteries and even heard some have d cell batteries.

I have one in try to repair also. The part that the tag presses to make the record player speak has its tip broken off, and when I took the cover off I can't get it to back on and play. Ik not sure what I am doing wrong.

    • @camcordernonsense5264
      @camcordernonsense5264  5 років тому

Sounds like that lever lost its strength with the break maybe? That stinks. It's been a while since I had it open. It depresses that little nub on the player

@@camcordernonsense5264 Yeah, it's going to take some time and patience to do it. I could do it more forcefully, but I just don't want to bend the lower section of the top half too much. Thinking of maybe taking a blow dryer to it to make the plastic a bit more pliable before trying again. They just don't want to come out of those tab holders. heh Definitely one of the tougher Kenner pieces to disassemble.

  • @thewheelies6801

Okay, I'm stuck. I got the car open, opened up the record player. Right away, there was a small, silver disc with a hole in the center that came loose and I didn't see where it came from, so not sure where to replace it. But besides that - the wires look good. The rubber band looks good. The battery compartment is totally clean. Still, zero connection with a fresh battery - nothing. Two questions, I guess: where the heck does that little silver disc go - and does the rubber band stretch around the spindle of the battery at the bottom - or is it simply stretched around that half-circle plastic hole piece? Ugh.
