I think the original KITT looked much better.
No arguments from us!
of course it does. the red thing is ugly
Hell ya
I agree. I never liked the KR2000. I just felt it was the wrong car for the movie. I think they should have used a trans am again. Replacing KITT with a different looking car was like replacing David with a different actor to play Michael. Also there was no need to for the over the top styling. I think a if they were dead set on not using a Pontiac they just should have gone with a stock Dodge Stealth body with a slightly modded front clip as they did with the original. Also bet Dodge and Mitsubishi would have seen a brief jump in sales that year.
Maybe if a couple tweaks were done to the K4000 design, it'd look better.
Clever use of the reversed Knight Rider 2000 theme at 43' ! Loved every minute of this video. I'm so glad the KIFT insert car is in good hands.
Congrats, JDMcCormick! You are the 2nd person to figure out and comment on what we did here at 43:00 ! Thank you!!!
Cool well-produced and informative.
I was at Jays shop on a Sunday when he pulled the two Dodge Stealths into the shop and started cutting the ends off of them.
I attended a dinner with Jay, his wife and the product guys from AMT who were doing the model kit.
I arranged the use of the custom wheels on the TV cars. You’d think that the wheel company would’ve been bright enough to use that media use as a promotional effort, wouldn’t you? Nope. They even went to Universal and demanded the wheels back from the display car at the park! Idve wanted to use 17-inch rims, the 15s look like skate wheels but costs would’ve barred the purchase of new tires.
Wood hinges on plywood? Why not???
That car looked like the Banshee show car, which Pontiac had offered, but DH would need one for each foot and the power train was ‘experimental’ and would’ve broken in about ten minutes under studio care. The end product resembled the Banshee to the point that GM filed a cease-and-desist order against future use.
Thanks Rick, great story!!
@@KnightRiderHistoriansOfficial Interview that guy! 👆👆
@@themobseat Of course! I'm pretty sure that Joe is already on top of that...Joe?
You can tell AJ is a true Pontiac fan with that poster and long branch exhaust manifolds on the wall! Not to mention pulling the insert car with a Bonneville.
Brad, you are VERY observant, and you have a very good eye! You're hired!
@@KRHExclusives Haha.. Thanks! Awaiting assignment, sir! I have a large Pontiac library that helps.
Woohoo AJ and Eric!!! Joe has even showed footage of the 4000. There was a young man who was an extra in the movie. This is still cool to see. Eric thanks for helping Joe with the trailer.👍
Hello guys! Thank you for the opportunity to see this rare piece of KR history!
That thing being hitched up to a 90s pontiac just fits.
I love this channel It validates my lifelong obsession with the pontiac trans am and Knight Rider. 💪
Thanks, we are glad you are here!
Who would have ever thought a Pontiac Bonneville would be used to tow ANYTHING lol Great piece I love the history
Yes, and it wasn't just ONE Pontiac Bonneville at 30:14, but TWO...It may not be obvious, but the maroon car towing this trailer at 12:09 is ALSO a Bonneville...
I can't wait to see it restored it is my favorite knight rider car !
I liked the use of the Yan Hammer Knight Rider 2000 theme reversed in the end clip when you were packing the insert car away.
You're brave for hauling that thing on that thing! Great to see A.J! 😃
That car was also used in Power Rangers Time Force as the car that Alex shows up in in the first episode of Time Force. I bet you guys didn't realize that but being a bit of a Power Rangers fan myself I did homework and was surprised.
I am a Power Ranger fan too and also recognized it.
I saw it and I knew it was kitt
It also was in CHiPs 99
...and Timecop the Series.
And in black mask
It's so cool to see AJ from NRH plus he's definitely a pontiac fan nice
When the k4000 did a front wheel burn out in the movie I just had to find out what it was based off.surprised back then when I found out it was base v6 stealth
As KITT has said, "I don't have all day"
The boat version of this currently resides at Deezer Land Automotive museum in Orlando Florida. They have a couple of the original KITT clones to that you can get pretty close too. It worth the trip if you're a car guy and plan on making a day of it there are over a thousand vehicles from films and car collections here.
Love this episode, so funny 😂👍
One of the road cars was used in CHiPs 99. Big fan of that show as well. As soon as I saw the car parked in front of the convention center, I was thinking "Crap! They merged the Knight Rider universe into the CHiPs universe!" Disappointed when K.I.T.T. turned out to be just a concept car.
Nice to see you A.J and Eric,we don't see you eneough on the channel.I am a huge fan of the original series.I loved KITT as a black Pontiac Trans am,i was shocked when i saw the movie and saw KITT had become a red Pontiac Banshee/Dodge Stealth.I literally cried,i was so excited, hoping to see KITT in his old shape a black 1982 Pontiac Trans am.Thankyou for this interesting video.
Best Wishes
Hazel in the UK 🇬🇧
Knight Rider 2000 was very polarized. Some fans loved it (I am one of them) and some hated. 😊
I remember that movie. KITT got disassembled and his parts thrown out, they dug him out of the trash and put him in an old 50s car before sticking him into this crazy looking thing.
Great video as always!
Glad to see you again A.J. :D
Don't get to see you on here enough.
Keep up the good work all!
Oh my word…it’s Lightening McQueen! I’m going to show this vid to my nephew. He’s going to go nuts!
As much as i don't like "KIFT", i still want to see one back on the road in superb condition.
Yes, please watch for future videos on our channel about this...KIFT lives on!
Awesome! I just watch KR 2000 last week. I have a 1994 Dodge Stealth RT that I've had for 14 yrs now. Parts are a plenty, but sometimes at a premium.
That's very cool! Please keep that car, and maybe even share some pics with us!
Thanks!
Thank you !!!!! I hope you guys can fully restore KIFT with complete dash and scanner !!!!!
Thanks for sharing this. It will be interesting to see this insert car restored to his former self.
This car would have been ahead of its time in the 80s
VideoBob had the screen used knight Four Thousand. Not sure if he still has it but might be a trip to Dallas; if y’all want to see it up close and personal (or maybe procure it).
The Knight Rider 2000 theme played backwards?
Cool.
I guess that bypasses some rules.
AJ had to do that to include it!
The original theme for the movie was done by Jan Hammer. I have the CD called "Drive"
@@williammitchell4417 I had that cd.
I also had a Hammer.
I still have the hammer.
@@williammitchell4417 Yes, and as FirstDan2000 correctly points out, this is that very same theme song recording by Jan Hammer...
@@KRHExclusives when I looked at the video again. It came through 5x5
Very interesting and glad you all saved this car and it's in good hands. Thanks for showing it to your subscribers and Knight Rider fans.
Amazing seeing this I have a 1982 transam then noticed my Mitsubishi gto has the same door cards as this !
Thanks for sharing this David Fryatt You're the 2nd person to mention the Mitsubishi GTO in the comments of this video, so I had to look it up on Wikipedia! "Manufactured in a three-door hatchback coupé body style in Nagoya, Japan, the 2+2 four-seaters were marketed in the Japanese domestic market (JDM) as the GTO, and globally as Mitsubishi 3000GT. In North America, it was sold both as the Mitsubishi 3000GT (1991-1999) and the Dodge Stealth (1991-1996), a badge engineered, mechanically identical captive import." Do you have a Javanese GTO model then?
@@KRHExclusives yeah I was shocked when saw the door cards are identical. Yes mines a Japanese import to the UK.
Hi Guy's fantastic video, as always ❤.
Ever since I saw Knight Rider, I was hooked,For me, KITT will always be the 1982 firebird/trans am.
That version of KITT is the true definition of the Knight Industries Two Thousand.
Now my 6 year old son is following in my footsteps for the passion for Knight Rider. I'd give my right bollok and a kidney to own out very own KITT.
Keep up the great work you both do ❤👍
Agree.I feel the same KITT will always be a black 1982 Pontiac Trans am.I was horrified to see that movie, when KITT turned out to be that red Pontiac Banshee/Dodge Stealth thing, that to me was and never will be KITT.
Great to see A.J. and with some info on the Knight 4000 insert car none the less. Oh and of course Eric the assistant to the Knight Rider Historians.
Ha! Yes, assistant TO...the Knight Rider Historians....
It was around 2001 or 02 I found out about the Stealth was used. I had the Dodge Stealth & KIFT model kits. Both kits windows fit each other. If I am remembering right only difference was KIFT's was in two pieces and the Stealth was one. I like both designs of KITT & KIFT. I just would have liked it if it was Three Thousand & black. Or at least had the hood black like the Banshee had. I guess that was for Pontiac's sake.
Matthew Coburn, thanks for sharing this. "I had the Dodge Stealth & KIFT model kits. " Are you referring to AMT 1/25 plastic kits? We have many of the KIFT models of this, but I don't think we have ever acquired any "stock" Dodge Stealth models. I just wanted to clarify before we investigated further...very interesting!
@@KRHExclusives Yes from AMT long ago.
I'm actually a huge fan of KR watching every Friday night on NBC like other kids of that era. I too bought the KIFT model kit but also bought the Stealth for the chassis and engine. The Stealth chassis fit perfectly into the 4000 . I painted mine black with the tan interior and some parts box wheels painted black with the lips of the wheels in silver. I also added the 2000 dash from an OG KR kit. I wanted family lineage not show correctness! I wasn't a fan of the red color used on KIFT so i painted mine up just like the 2000. Going back to an episode of KR I remember KITT quoting Henry Ford in saying: "Any color as long as its black". I had so much fun building this model and used stills from the real car and also watching the made for TV movie a few times just to get my creative juices flowing.
KnightRiderForLife!
Video bob. Has a kit car. The car from the movie. Yes, I have seen it
Col Lewis He did, and please watch for future videos on our channel about this very car...it has a happy ending we promise!
@@KRHExclusives man, do I need to wait
Nice peace of Knight Rider and movie history. I guess the base car, Dodge Stealth, was also available as Mitsubishi 3000GT / GTO.
"Mitsubishi 3000GT / GTO" VERY interesting...I did not know that...thanks for sharing!
That is correct.
Yes
Question would you Guy's ever consider buying the knight rider 4000 car at some point down the road ?
Yes, of course. Please watch our channel closely for more future videos on the rest of these cars, and where they are now!
The 4000 as a variation on the Banshee IV concept looks great. Red just isn’t the color for a Knight Rider vehicle (and don’t get me started on Ford paint colors).
Yes, thus my comment at 2:14 "even though KITT always prefers 'basic black'"
AJ!!! Glad to see you again brotha😊 missed ya on the vids🤙🏼
Thanks, Darrien...plan to see more of me though from time to time!
Pretty sure Videobob Mosely has 1 of the cars at his shop in Dallas unless he's sold it recently. I remember him showing it in a video a year or 2 ago.
Very interesting information Aj and I love the original kitt, but the truck they had in the remake was amazing too. Ty for your knowledge of my favorite childhood TV series!
Fascinating stuff! Thanks for putting this together, guys. I'd love to see it restored. Sorry if I missed this in the video, what happened to the screen used dash?
Screen used dash is now at original stunt knight 4000
It's the night 4000 the last party that the real kit inhabited
You guys really find some awesome stuff....but THIS is quite the discovery.
I'm sorry to say this as a big Knight Rider fan, but this car is a disaster. Just like the entire movie.
😂 the car does only look good from one angle. That's it
The screen used car blew an engine.
The Knight Industries Four Thousand was actually a Dodge Stealth made to look like a Pontiac Banshee, which was a concept car. As a Knight Rider fan, I think it looked pretty ugly.
@@akira808state4 when Joe made the commentary on the movie, I had some things to say.
I never liked it, not one bit
Now you need to find the 1957 Chevy that Kitt was installed in....😊
Oh yes, we've thought about that...
hi. great you have it.
it's not black! i don't like i ;-)
thanks for all that info. it's unbelievable how much you are doing for you and the community!
Thanks, MGL Videoservices...we really appreciate your comments!!!
Great video glad you can find this also if your interested I saw on video Bob moseley UA-cam site also known as bobs prop shop he's got the whole knight 4000 car if your interested also you forgot to mention Kitt was also a 57 chevy Belair lol for part of movie
8:49 that back end is the coyote from Hardcastle and McCormick
Hey guys thank you for the video and you will have to check it out for yourself though but I have seen that red car there night 4000 on Bob Mosley that is his UA-cam channel he had the whole car don't know if he still has it though he hasn't posted a video on that one in a long time but you have to go through his playlist and check it out for yourself
Those guys in intro need their own show lol
Yes! I want to see restored
Great video! Glad the Historians have the 2000 insert car. That Taz car shares the Coyote rear designed for the version 2 Coyote (Delorean version) used in Seasons 2 and 3 of H&M. Interesting idea to mix the Knight 4000 plus Coyote into one car
Indeed! Jay Ohrberg was having fund with that one when he cranked it out...and thanks for this insightful comment!
The Banshee would've made a much better looking K.I.T.T.
VideoBob had the "stunt car" in Dallas a couple years ago. It sold last year.
34:44 George Barris! That's awesome! I'm friends with a guy who used to have his own hot rod shop and has pics of George Barris in it.
what's funny is you guys can easily recreate everything that is in the picture dash with modern technology.
I would actually like to see it put onto a golf cart chassis or a homemade go-kart chassis or 😁even one of those three wheelers cars you sometimes see in certain towns or cities and be able to be driven around, of course you would have to close the backup but nothing but a little bit of plastic sheeting or whatever you want to do would do the trick to cover the backup.
😄 I got to love the Las Vegas security in the scene of you guys loading the car, reminds me of Paul blart Mall cop, him just standing on his Segway watching you load the car up, got to be kidding me they couldn't make that badge any bigger on the Segway it's practically a shield and I mean literally a shield. 😄
Oh man you must have gotten the copyright strikes left and right during those questions sections.
Knight rider 80's....😎💯✌️🇧🇷
Any plans on building molds and offering parts for us fans to build our own? I would love to build my own version that looks like the original.
TheeEccentricEd Noted, we shall discuss this...
0:16 nice "The Office" reference... great show... also "Red monstrosity " 0:33 🤣
Great video I enjoy every one y'all do but FYI the quality of this one is rough I still enjoyed it but just letting you guys know! Can't wait for the next video!
Thanks for this feedback, Michael Wood. Please be specific if you can. What is rough about it? Is it the moderately shaky 13-year-old footage I included, or something else? Lighting? Storyline flow? Audio? Other? If you can be specific, I can make these changes for future videos I produce for our channel...thank you!
@@KRHExclusives pretty much everything you mentioned I'm not mad or disappointed I still enjoyed it and I deeply thank you but yeah quality of the video, some audio I'm sure you noticed everything I did but I get it it's old footage, after my comment I got to thinking maybe it would have been good to cover everything in the older video footage but in today's tech anyway thank you for listening and I love your channel and everything you guys are trying to do really! I can't say that enough!
I don't know what 'happy pills' A.J. uses but I really want some 😅
Awesome video guys
Thanks! I come by it naturally. Interestingly, in a comment above Shaun Horton things I was a bit too "low energy" with my pregnant pauses. To his point, in person, I usually do talk faster and with even MORE energy. Glad you think I found a good balance here though...
I had the model of this car.... And I think it was before the show, lol
K 4000
Pontiac banshee if I not mistaken
I found it a bit disappointing considering what the 1982 to 1986 series was
Now that’s 90s Firebird
Hi! True KR Historians at work - a true archeological performance and very interesting, thank you!
I had the Hot Wheels Pontiac Banshee as a kid. I wish I still had my hot wheels today.
It would be cool as hell if you could make molds of all that stuff and sale it to whomever wants to buy them.
Just get Joe to finish cleaning it up. He's got plenty of free time 😂😂😅
Hello guys! This is such a very sophisticated vehicle that no one will ever drive on the road today. I hope we can restore it the way it was on that tv feature presentation Knight Rider 2000. Thanks!
The only sophisticated thing I saw were the hinges from a wooden door.
You're absolutely right that no-one will ever drive it.
Good to see restored, you could take it to shows with kitt in trailer in front of kitt. I would pay to sit in in and have picture taken. Great stream guys, keep up the great work. Do you have pictures of both kitts in their original condition.
Man, it's a shame you guys weren't able to rescue it while it still had the original insert dash in it.
It was an acquisition of opportunity. I didn't even realize it existed until I saw it in Jay's shop that day, actually... As far as I can remember, Jay got it back after the dash had been removed, but I'll have to check my notes on that to give more details in a follow-up video...
I believe this car's original dash was on the tinted window stunt car that Jay restored.
Am I the only one who thought hte Knight 4000 car looked ugly?
no he had one that was all there engine wheels and all
Not at all, it's a terribly uninspired car.
@@themobseat If the hoodwasn't this bulbous mass that just suddenly droops i nthe front... That's a ton of real estate they could have done SOMETHING with and... maybe it'd look better in black? part of why the banshee concept looks good is that black triangle to break up the sea of red.
Didnt Bob's Prop Shop have one of the screen used one of them?
Yes, and please watch for future videos on our channel about this very car...it has a happy ending we promise!
@@KRHExclusives Awesome 🙏
AJ, you’re wrong. You forgot about the 57 Chevy!
Steven Duering...of course, you are correct! But we haven't yet done a video on is how many of those blue 57 Chevy cars they used for the shooting of that movie....THAT will have to be YET ANOTHER video! reference 5:29 ...
In other words, it's a back seat in the academic sense.
ClarkeMarek if you mean my comment at 7:04, yes, truly in the academic sense...
I know what those are like. Seriously, Pinto "back seats" where the worst.
We need more videos with AJ
👎
I so regret not buying the movie car from video bob a few years ago. I think he was asking 8k ugh. It would have been nice bringing it back to San Antonio
I was in Jr high when this movie came out
I think the first Banshee was a pair of prototypes made about 1964 which were two seat sports cars with an appearance that foretold the third generation Corvette - and that was why they didn't get built, GM was afraid they'd cut into Corvette sales. Seems as though at least one has the OHC-6 engine, and like the Corvette they had removable hardtops. At least one still exists.
I think Video Bob the Delorean BTTF Car conversion guy had the driver version of this car a few years back. He had a few videos trying to get it running. Don't know what became of it or if he sold it.
He sold it, a friend of ours in Europe owns it.
And, MrSFSTUDIOS, please watch for a future video series on our channel about this car...
Nice way to be in front of a strip joint in Vegas.
if this is Fremont street (which I have been down that street when it is called The Fremont Street Experience) I think I know where that strip joint is.
The way you have the steering wheel set it kind of reminds me of Tweaky's face from Buck Rodgers
majobis, yes indeed, this was the very same Fremont Street Experience you speak of, back in March of 2010. Those strip joints seem to move around and multiply every single year, that place changes fast and often...
"The way you have the steering wheel set it kind of reminds me of Tweaky's face from Buck Rodgers" That's the most interesting take I've heard yet about anything in this video...cool!
Is this the same one video Bob had!!!
I'm itching to put a buffer wheel on that car ❤
They replaced the iconic Trans Am with a Dodge Stealth in the TV mini series Bandit as well.
Thank you, very interesting, full of great information
Video Bob had also the original whole car i don´t know if he still has it or if has already sold it. It was for sale. He had it in his shop in dallas. He is moveing everything to Las Vegas.
Video Bob has videos on it.
That was over a year ago, he's long since sold it
I'd love to see the KIFT insert restored! I did want to say... and maybe this is just me, but there are a LOT of very pregnant pauses in this video. I don't know if that's just your conversational style, AJ, or if it's because you're way better at talking to people than a camera, but it definitely made me feel awkward more than once during the video. Maybe it's just me but it did make me feel a huge loss of the energy I generally feel watching these videos. But I'd definitely like to see a Historians level restoration of the insert car, and maybe even see if you can track down Jay's molds because it would be very interesting to reconstruct a replica, using the same methods they originally constructed it with.
Thanks, Shaun Horton, I appreciate the feedback. Yes, the pregnant pauses are intentional, so that I don't talk too fast on camera. That's something I've learned from taking public speaking coaching over the years. So, I'm curious...which pause made you feel awkward? I'll keep in in mind for future shoots. And because you said this, I'll try to return to my "faster talking over-energetic self" for future videos. It was a bit difficult for me to slow down this much...
@@KRHExclusives Oh wow! I didn't expect to get an individual response! I really hope you didn't take it as too bad critique but there was two were I felt kind of awkward, the first right at the start, when you said that we're fans and we know exactly what it is, it felt like a very long pregnant pause before you delivered that line. The second was at about 26 minutes when you were talking about if there was any intrumentation in the dash of the original insert car. That one I feel like it was almost like... leaving space for the editor to put in those insert shots from the movie, so not really the same motivation, but it felt awkwardly long.
BUT! Following my personal philosophy of always following critique with compliment, one of my favorite moments in this video was at 26:17 when you really let some of that personality show and asked how long do you want to be here, we don't have time for that... it made me laugh, and it felt like that was a moment we really got to see "who IS AJ' for those who haven't been around long. And I love that you had a very showmanlike way of deferring content to where and when it should be paced. That's probably some of that public speaking training you mentioned!
@@shaunhorton5619 no offense taken...I see what you share as valuable feedback, seriously! And I appreciate you taking the time to expand in detail...I value you taking the time to do that even MORE.
"the first right at the start, when you said that we're fans and we know exactly what it is"
Interesting you should point that one out at 0:42. Originally, that was an afterthought for us to do that silly quiet paused comment, and originally I had intended to edit it all out. That one was NOT intentional at the start. But when I watched it again during editing, I kinda liked the effect it created...literally I was hooked by the "pregnant pause" there, to make it feel a little "off" and keep the viewer intrigued. But seriously, knowing that it had a negative effect for you instead of a positive one, that is very good to know. I'll think more carefully before including "accidental" pauses like this for effect in future videos.
"The second was at about 26 minutes when you were talking about if there was any instrumentation in the dash...[as if] leaving space for the editor to put in those insert shots from the movie"
Ah, yes, actually, at 27:02 I did split our natural dialog stream and insert a few seconds of silence to extend that shot, because at that moment I did indeed want to spend a few extra seconds showing all those shots in succession. I thought nobody would notice that the pause there in the dialogue was unnaturally a little long, but you did...and that's really good to know!
Honestly I thought you were initially referring to pauses between my words in my dialogue by the car. I was trying to pace myself and be more thoughtful about my words, slowing down more than I might in a natural conversation. Good to know you were talking about other things...so glad you clarified!
Of the nearly 250 comments+replies on this video so far, you are the only one who's providing real, actionable feedback for how I'm shooting and producing these videos.
One commenter below said "Cool piece of history, but this guy is painful to watch." You should scroll down and read my reply, you might get a kick out of it...but I don't think they'll care enough to provide any more color on that comment, let alone the quality of feedback that you have here.
I'm making a concerted effort to produce more videos for this channel, and I spent 36~40 hours on the editing side of this one. Excessive perhaps, and it probably doesn't show, but I'm a very slow learner with video editing and production, so I just press through hoping eventually I will get better at this.
So, all that said, thanks again for comments like this, and please, keep them coming! I really do appreciate it!!!!
You guys are hilarious! So much fun!😃

Maybe I missed it during the video, but any idea what happened to the insert dash and the seats that were in that ''1/2 car'' during fimlming?
Videobob Mosley briefly had the driving version.
Go and see Bob in dallas, bob's prop shop...he has the original car used
Do you know what ever became of the original "functioning" dashboard for the insert car?
Functioning dash is now at Stunt Knight 4000

It would be cool to do a restoration on it... Might be better to add just an bit to that restoration... You know make it a little more than what it "originally" was just so you have more of a movie magic feel and interaction of connection. So of course add all the original interior, but then above and beyond to add buttons and all what knots, maybe a tablet or something, you know all the bells and whistles as they say, which I'm sure it didn't originally have just beginning a cut away car, but would give it more that movie experience feel. If I have the money, I'd even think about using something like frosted smart glass film, to project images on the windshields and side windows so you could maybe turn it into some kind of big simulator kinda thing. You know this was the last Kitt... 😔 You can throw it and the original KITT in the back of the Semi trailer, aka F.L.A.G. Mobile Unit, when you get it done and take it to shows... Could maybe even charge a few bucks to ride in the Original Screen Used Knight 4000... 🤔... simulator 😜
That Smart Glass product is some I have suggested to you to use in KITT to electronically tint his windows by the push of a button or flip of a switch... Black to Clear.
Thanks, Justin Hobart, very creative suggestions! You know, with your emphasis on Smart Glass, maybe you could be a part of getting that installed in a KITT replica somewhere? I'd go out of my way to see that in person if you did!
Also, this was never "K.I.F.T." as that never existed. The car was the Knight 4000 with a generic A.I. because Russ Maddock lost faith in human beings as a prosecutor. The A.I. used his voice due to his ego. K.I.T.T. remains himself because he is the A.I. installed into the Knight 4000. Just as he was still K.I.T.T. when he was installed into a portable TV in "Soul Survivor".
Yes, well said Tryksta 724...which is why I say "KIFT...but he's still KITT" with such awkward distain in my voice at 2:09
