How to install PC DDR4 RAM and configure PC to boot FIRST time
Installing RAM is easy to do, but to get it to BOOT first time, well that takes practice and some processes to get it right, as you will see in the video.

Most motherboards will notice the RAM change and automatically RESET the XMP or DOCP settings to allow the RAM to be "trained"
But this isn't always the case and your motherboard might try and REUSE the wrong settings on your RAM and this can cause the system to not BOOT or crash due to using the WRONG settings.
So don't mess around and do it the RIGHT way and get your system BOOTING from the start.

This is indeed the best presented demonstration on installing RAM into a desktop. It was done in a clear and concise manner. I like how you provided the additional troubleshoot section on how to access and change the BIOS, which almost all other videos failed to do. Well done mate!
thanks that is very kind of you to say. I try and add in as much additional knowledge as i can, it helps you and saves me answering the same questions over and over in the comments or the discord chat

Best video for pc newbies. My ram is finally upgraded. Thanks !
Glad I could help!
Upgraded d'ters Ram when upgraded cpu so upgraded old 2400 2x4gb to new C/Ballistix 2x8gb 3000 I had bought cheap months prior. Need to check if I reset Xmp settings! Thanks for the tutorial Mike and Kath 👍
thanks Nick, have a great day
I always put the PC on its side when installing new/extra ram and use both hands as its easy to have your fingers slip and crack the plastic housing or even the card itself. Of course ideally install the RAM before installing the board as some of the new CPU coolers get in the way.
yes good points

My top tip for installing RAM is buy a motherboard with only two slots. It stops you having to worry about which slot fit the RAM into (I know, I talk rubbish) great video, Thanks, Mike
that does remove one part of the equation

Hey man great vid, I'm currently using an AMD A8-6600K APU and i'd like to upgrade from 8GB to 16GB, do you know if the Fury Beast 16GB 3200mhz would be compatible?
probably but maybe not at that high a freqency
I might soon upgrade my ram for the first time ever. from 2x8gb ram to 2x16gb ram and buy the exact same once but the 32gb version my DOCP is on at 3600mhz, Do i need to disable my DOCP before installing the new once? even tho they are the same just higher gb?
probably a good idea so the memory gets retrained
@@mikesunboxing okey thanks for answers, so i should disable it for the new ram? Just to be clear? 🙂
I need this info ASAP…
So i have an HP Laptop with Samsung 4GB ddr4 2400 ram, and im swapping to 2 A-Tech 16GB Ram sticks, and my motherboard’s max is 32GB anyways. So, i try to go into the boot manager, but because the motherboard isnt asus, i have wierd HP bios boot stuff. If I just don’t do anything and I try to turn the laptop in with the new ram, nothing is displayed, but the system is obviously on because of the fans and a blinking Caps Lock light. Any help?
the blinking caps lock is an error report, try one stick at a time one could be faulty
Very nice video, but what if the computer starts to boot into safe mode all the time, after changing the rams,, to a higher mhz. I have changed mine, and my pc doesnt like it, so it keeps booting into safe mode. I have had to change it into default settings, until it would start normally. Any idea?

Would this be the same process if you're putting in two more sticks? ....
yes it is, although if they are matching sets then it might not be necessary, but some motherboards reduce the frequency with more than two sticks so you might need to do it
Well I can say, thank you for your help, I was able to fix my issue with my motherboard not correcting ram speed and frequency, if you want more info, just ask but anyways keeping the video for later just in case, thank you again

If I’m just adding 16gb from already having 16 with same brand and speed, do I still need to take the old ones out or can I just add the 2 new ones and good to go ?
just add the new ones as long as they are identical, might also be worth turning of XMP before you do, then re enable it after
My PC configuration is:
Processor: Ryzen 5 5600
Mobo: asus tuf gaming b550m-plus
Ram: Kingston fury beast 8gb x2 3200MHz dd4
Storage: Samsung PM9A1 512gb
Gpu: sapphire pulse rx7600
Psu: corsair cv650 80 plus bronze
Even though the CPU and motherboard are both compatible with 3200MHz frequency, I can't take advantage of the 3200 MHz of the D.O.C.P (X.M.P) profile. If I turn on the 3200MHz option of the D.O.C.P. profile and save, the computer restarts itself and goes to the boot menu on its own. The PC does not turn on until I go back to the default mode from the D.O.C.P Profile mode. What is the solution to this problem?
Do I need to update the motherboard BIOS? Or am I not able to set the DOCP profile correctly?
i would update the bios, that combo should be able to run 3200 easily so either a faulty ram stick or the DOCP settings are not right, the BIOS update should sort out the DOCP
Sir thanks for the reply , for this particular mobo model (tuf b550m-plus) do i need to follow any sequence or i can directly jump to the latest version. And do i need to remove my cpu, ram, ssd for the bios update?
Hello mike can you help me? I have the same ram and when I try to enable profiles in docp it only shows disabled. I have asus b450m prime board.

Yup.. RTFM😁
If I’m just adding 16gb from already having 16gb installed and it’s the same brand and speed, do I need to worry about anything or can I just slot them into A1 and B1 and it’s good to go?

you might be able to just do a straight swap as the speed and CL is the same

JUST WANT TO THANK YOU VERY MUCH ! Didn't know that dual channel ddr is preferable to pe mounted on A2 B2 DIMMS . I initially mounted them on A1 B1 and didn't work at the highest OC performance. sorry i don't understand the question
can i ask? i have 2 slots of ram and if i use the 2 slots my pc wont turn on
try one at a time could be one is faulty
Can I install 2666Mzh to a motherboard that supports up to 2400Mzh? I can't find many Rams in my motherboard's speed.
yes they will downclock
i already haved ddr4 2x8gb 3200 and put another 2x8gb ram same manufacturer some strange things start to happen restart the pc and getting no signal on the monitor only after restart pc boot normal or when i try to start the pc it starts then shuts down then start again and worked fine
they probably used different ram types on the two sets and systems will be trying to use the wrong specs, causing issues. try lowering the XMP frequency one step at a time until it becomes stable,. or check each individual stick in memtest to see if one is faulty

W10 and 11 has their own graphics driver installed OS and the main feature of W10 and W11 of providing platform for 5g applications and casual user for games . The conflicts many are having is the Kernal security codes which is related to graphics configuration. Happen once a week ago which led me to figure out I had to readjust the CUP/NB Frequency and cpu ration of percentage to use off mhz of ram of choosing best speed setting from overkill or BSODs, lol. Ive been watching these or your videos for many years, of this first time asking questions to fill in what Ive learned so far so setting W10 was very easy to me on Task Manager of disabling features not needed. But is there a way to keep W10 and 11 graphics settings as the slave driver? Why would you want to reduce the memory frequency? Also, if you've made sure that the motherboard, memory, cpu, etc, are all compatible with each other, why does anything have to be reset or changed in the UEFI bios?
for the memory to be trained or retrained.
@@mikesunboxing Thankyou, however I don't understand. Either the memory and bios chips are compatible or they aren't.
@@andrewjenery1783 If you just put in the ram without adjusting the bios settings, the system will boot, however with the minimum default frequency (generally 2133 or 2400mhz). However with a simple tweak to the XMP settings the ram will operate at their full potential (in this case 3200mhz). This will give you far superior performance.

ok, OK, LOL. I FINALLY SOLVED MY GPUs issues with ram upgrading as this is the primary reason so many and still having issues is trying to learn a Universal topic WHICH BREAKS DOWN INTO DIFFERENT CATERGORIES OF gpu YOU ARE USING. It is the age of my old FX 8350 and majority of M/Boards of certain limits from blowing up,lol, of the tech at present time of covering future mishaps to prevent total failure of dead cpu. First, I had to do the math as math is the key when referencing specs to use. But MOST COMMON LACK OF PC IQ is the Black and Blue slots of purpose , availability , and locked adjustable AI settings between the PCI Spread and limiter( forgot setting but noticed purpose to disable for Maximum MANUAL Overclocking. Hey, going to make it short from here on/ FX 8350 4 PCI RAM SLOTS 2 for dual, 2 for single but at certain limit of gbs used will be 6 gbs each channel no matter dual or single slot as the mhz limit for ea slot is 11 33 or 1066 ( I forgot factory limit of the 2 due to me manually adjusting mhz to 1133 giving my overclocking to 4.47 ghz on CPU. This was the reason why so many high level gamers were pissed off at AMD 8350 due to this max setting of ram slots to limit disaster of new fresh hardware , components, ect. But its really planned from the Corps to keep buying every 2 to 4 years if not every year. I had to explain this , limits and overriding the other 2 settings of disabling to give me the total 24gb of using Duals. Im no Bum using this great cpu of my income leve;, but Im no dumb shit now and know more in 3 days of this unpopular issue with Ram than the really rich guys who spend the money but still not learning... lol..
I set at 1066mhz to give me the 24gb 4.48 cpu ghz from factory set 4.o ghz. OVERCLOCK. Im sure someone knows the other settings of the channel specs because they are all on AUTO locked..
well figured out

They were having very hard time chasing me but I have the ww1 and ww2 books of those actual pilots and the techniques of certain scenarios of a chaser. Just say first trick was the Loop and counter Dupe from chased to tracked and locked on. Its just 1 game so far since upgrading. My FPS went up 40% since the Ram fix of being better then just 16gb for a motherboard of spec range settings. I am definitely going to build me another Gaming PC as I already have those giant server like cases and be rigging up my extra fans away from motherboard link to have cpu dedicate all voltage on the cpu and other components. MB is set for user to either use all 4 slots in single configuration. pc WANTS TO STAY AWAY FROM OVERTHINKING once a dual is in a blue slot for if you have 4 slots of dual ram, CPU gives options to divide gbs as normal or give a little so cpu overclock as it is giving me 6 gb a slot for the present configuration now. A lot f math of this and you really do need to stay away from guessing and learn from these videos..
@@mikesunboxing Oh, and with this cpu and motherboard , it will ONLY let you use 8 gb a slot. If you have a 2 x8 gb stick and using up every slot, it will give you 4 gb ea channel or 3gb ea channel depending on the size gb on single slots. The 8 gig limit is the KEY for right configuration of doing the math. If people seeing the missing gbs with a message next to size title as ( only 15.9 useable) they need to ensure to redo to get all gbs involved. I have 1 more try once I get the single 8 gb to use for blue slots to see if this combo work to get all 32gb which can happen for this gpu outside a programmer s knowledge. This is a popular issue and I have 1 more shot to see if I can get all 32gb on DDR3 FX 8350 and motherboard. Im not going to mess with the channel settings for its all automatic locked anyways..
