Fantastic series of videos for the N47 engine, the best on UA-cam in my opinion! I'm planning to change the chain on my own car so I was devastated when your chanel got banned, I'm happy to see your back! I appreciate your content and want to thank you for the huge effort you made to help BMW owners. 👌👍
Yo, watch all your videos love them really helping me out as I'm removing my n47 so I can rebuild it question how tf did you get the top bellhousing bolts out can't get to them 😤
Hi George, love your videos. I am in the process of taking the engine out. I have 2010 BMW X1 Xdrive 20D manual gearbox. Do i need to take out manual gearbox too? Thanks Vish
Unfortunately I sucked in some water during bad flooding recently where I live :/ Changing the engine on my 320d this video helped a lot so thank you! Only thing is the engine bay is smaller so a lot less room at the rear of the engine, Its a pain to get at the bell housing bolts!
Bro how the hell didi you get that top bellhousing bolt off did u have to remove some stuff from the top of the engine or did u get it from underneath?
Hello George, is this method the same for F series? I really think I can change the timing chain myself after seen your videos. if you have patreon I will be glad to contribute.
Hi, I think my power steering pump needs to be changed. Will I be able to do that without removing the alternator and ac compressor? Regards from Norway
@@GeorgeAusters Thanks for your reply. My N47D20A has a cracked block (beyond repair) and there's a E90 with M47 engine i can use (car has damaged gearbox). Was considering replacing the N47 motor with the M47 engine.
Hi can you please tell me where the crank case breather valve is on the n47 i can see the cap but not tge main body it looks like it cannot be removed unlike the m47, thanks.
Yes you don’t remove the crankcase breather on this engine. You can only replace the diaphragm which is built into the cap but there is no need to do so if it is working fine👍🏻
If it’s not losing any oil then I wouldn’t worry. Blue smoke usually means valve stem seals or piston rings. Are you sure it’s blue and not white/grey?
What SHITTY engines.. I wanna sell my BMW now.w If anything needs fixing, almost have to take entire engine out every time. What IDIOT for example, put the timing chain on the BACK of the engine? XD
hey! one question you might be able to answer, I was thinking about Chain tensioner on the BMW N47 engine. can I do it in place without opening up the engine? thank you for inspiring every day Cheers / Martin
@@GeorgeAusters i saw all 3 videos thanks a lot Actually i have now another problem with my n47 engine I have codes 4B90 4560, 4570, 4510 And that related to fuel system that was suddenly in a moment the car stoped and wouldn't start If u can help me with that i will be grateful Thanks
One of the best and most important tutorials for the n47. Well done!
Thank you Michael
You're the hero of the BMW diesel's engine! Thank you a lot mate!
You’re welcome!

Brilliant video, I’m just about to tackle my 320d. Thanks for the insight 👍
Interesting video by the way great help so far

I'm starting mine tomorrow thanks
Great video! How many working days you think would be needed to execute this timing chain job as a first timer?
I would plan for a week so you can take your time

No you don't
did you snap the bolt to the ac compressor
Hi there great videos. Can you tell me if yours was an auto gearbox version and if there are any differences...cheers
Manual

how did you end up doing the bell housing bolts. mine is a automatic gearbox e92 320d and i can’t figure out how to get them out
Bro how the hell didi you get that top bellhousing bolt off did u have to remove some stuff from the top of the engine or did u get it from underneath?
A lot easier with wiring and intake removed from the top
I like this guy
I like you too
Very very helpful video. I am going to remove my own bmw engine and this video is awesome. Thank you bro, i will definitely save ton of money on this.

Hello! Would the m57 fit in the place of n47? I mean all the connection points
Not an easy swap

What kind of engine car can be upgraded?
Hi is the timing chain located at the front or back of engine?
Back
Hi George, is it possible to replace a N47 engine with a M47 engine in a E90? Do the electronics prohibit?
Possible but really not worth it

@@GeorgeAusters could be grey maybe im being paranoid but thats great thanks for getting back to me
The timing chains can be replaced without removing the engine by dropping the propshaft, gearbox, clutch and flywheel working underneath.
Yep.. not fun lying on your back in a wet and cold driveway though!
Would benefit from doing it on a ramp or quick jacks if you want to do it that way.
Been there done it wont do it again its is hell just take it out
Same.. Removing the gearbox and doing the clutch was a pain in itself! Let alone lying on the floor doing the timing chain kit

Stupid question dude, but what's holding the gearbox up? I thought the engine was essentially what held it up ?
Gearbox mounts hold the gearbox in
