    I love this honest video. Most youtubers only show when the going is good, but the reality of life is ups and downs. Chin up and keep up the hard work!

    Good video and good to see you go through the root cause and issue. Sorry to hear it didn’t work out with the original engine, but good learning experience for next time.

    Hi, like your vids watch them often, but have to disagree on this one, (don't buy flood damaged). I've recently rebuilt a 335d flood damaged, it was seized solid when I got it. Being a mechanic of almost 40 years,I completely stripped it to bare block & rebuilt from ground up including honing bores, all new bearings, six new rods, new piston rings stem seals, timing chains & guides etc. You would not believe where the water got (everywhere). But she's perfect now & saved over 10k on price of forecourt car. 👍

      Hi, thanks for watching the video. You’ve done a hell of a job, congratulations! That’s the proper way to do it! Unfortunately with what I can afford to buy, mostly n47 engines, the profit margin is so small I can’t overhaul the whole engine. For me it’s cheaper to buy a donor car that later on provides me with more spare parts. All the best!

      Cheers Pal, just so you know the parts cost was around £600,i sourced a full set of rods for £150,so not that expensive. I measured all the rods tolerances before fitting as they were used but perfect. I understand you will break the donar car and make money on the parts, I had to rebuild mine on the back street (but very understanding wife) allowed me to rebuild the engine in the kitchen 😊. Keep up the good work pal. 👍

    Good video once again can you explain why the surface rust on the internals of the block would cause the damage that has happened I can't see the connection

    • @W15Garage
      @W15Garage  2 місяці тому +2

      Thanks! Since water got inside the engine, the cranckshaft bearings got pitted and scored, and surface rust/corrosion occurred. Bearing tolerances are very tight, 0.025-0.065mm, so every small imperfection will cause oil pressure loss. If oil pressure is lost, the bearings will spin.

    Can you not oversize pistons and rod bearings?

    • @W15Garage
      @W15Garage  Місяць тому

      Since the crankshaft is damaged, it’s not worth it, I’m not a big fan of oversized bearings and repaired crankshafts on n47/n57, also it’s not cost effective if you want to do it the right way. But now I have another n47 engine, with an accident damaged cracked block, internals all good. I’ll make 1 good engine out of the two. All the best

      @@W15Garage Only costs around £100 to grind a crank. I was just wondering if it was possible

    • @bapsmcginty4782

      @@GeorgeAusters The water damage will have permeated the oilways as well so you are just kicking the can down the road. Unless the block is completely stripped, properly flushed and all galleries brushed you are always taking a chance. All that work makes it not cost effective. So possible yes, but practical no.

    when you replaced the conrod originally, was there no signs of wear on the crankshaft journals or excessive wear on the bearings?

    • @W15Garage
      @W15Garage  2 місяці тому

      Crankshaft was spot on, but bearings-I was too optimistic. That's on me. However, by the second time I opened the engine, there was way more rust inside. Additionally, the oil drops that fell on the ground had a strange reaction on the garage floor, like acid or saltwater. It’s worth mentioning this was a Stolen recovered/water flood car from copart. Thanks for watching.

    what was wrong with donor car so it worth swap engines and not keep donor car as main? :) thanks for videos! what happen to you is my worst nightmare N43

    • @W15Garage
      @W15Garage  2 місяці тому +1

      Thanks for watching. Donor car is a cat S f20 from 2013. Your assumption is correct, just for the engine swap it’s not worth it, but I can fix another car or two from the good body panels left.😊

    Depsite all those who moan about insurers writing off flooded cars, even those that don't seem to be too bad, this is the reason why.

    No dipstick in these bmw's are really really bad idea

    • @W15Garage
      @W15Garage  2 місяці тому +2

      Thanks for watching! N47 does have the dipstick, but the absence of the low oil pressure light was strange, since all 4 conrod bearings were spun.
