Just spun a rod bearing last week, pulled the engine and am in the process of replacing the crankshaft, main bearings and con rod bearings, so your video came at the perfect time. Thank you for the detailed videos, many of your videos have helped me better understand the biturbo setup of the BMW diesel engines and work on mine (E90 2.0d converted to BiTurbo like the 123d model). Waiting for the balance shafts video!
Thanks! The balance shaft video will be delayed, because I have forgot to film something really important when reinstalling them. Will be doing it probably after 2 months. At least that is when we have planned a repair like this on other car....
Hi, I’ve just seen your comment and was wondering if you have some information on how you converted yours to bi turbo? I’ve been interested in doing something like that but didn’t find much info at all
My car is at around 260k km (320d lci 2008) and runs perfectly, is there any way to check the chain without taking out the engine? How much would this whole procedure cost if you do this?
My e90 320d has done 281,000 km and runs perfectly.... The car is a 2010 model which I have owned for 6 years... I think I will continue to run it because the cost of replacing the chain may not be worth it in the long term... If you keep regular oil changes your chain should be ok
As far as I understand, BMW dealers can perform a test without removing the engine to check for stretching in the chain. They did this to assess which units were valid during a recall on the early models. There were grades of severity in slackness due to stretching and only the most severe got a free change It is worth asking them I suppose? For older cars with high mileage it is a difficult decision whether to spend the money it will cost to remove the engine, swap the chain and do all the work shown here... most independent local garages won't touch these kinds of jobs these days... too much easy money to be made doing ball joints, brake disks and pads and track rod ends... You need to find an independenty BMW specialist but their prices these days can be as eye-watering as a main dealer... Mine has 170,000 miles on it (2014 F31 Msport x-drive 320D) it runs fine now and isn't noisy but i'm concerned the chain is going to give out on me in the next year or two... All I can do is shorten the service intervals and add some molyslip each time Swapping the chain is around £900-£1300 GBP for the 2WD up to around £1500GBP for the X-drive versions... Mainly labour cost as the kit is less than £300GBP Prices approximate based on quotes I have just had APRIL 2024 from two independent BMW specialists
Hi. there are few who explain correctly How to mount the chain distribution on the n47 bmw. The most common mistake when the fuel pump is set to the mark on the engine block. You understand what I mean. You are the best.
I just changed out Hpfp/injectors and all fuel lines on my bmw 118d after hpfp failure and now car has misfire on cylinder 2, I used the proper locking set up for hpfp and crank but scratching my head with this misfire. All injectors checked and pressure from Hpfp good, My next step is to remove glow plugs and test compression but would it be worth taking rocker cover off and checking timing 1st incase it has jumped?
Hello, how to put the key on for the crankshaft correctly, there are two holes, you put it in the first one and I saw a video where they put it in the second one.
Got my engine together just yesterday..did the fuel system bleed from ISTA just once but still it does not start..should i run the fuel system bleed more than once? And not having the exhaust sensors plugged in should not be an issue to start the car right? Because mine too the exhaust is still off but the manifold with the turbo is on..
Congratulations, you are competent and a good person, I have to do the distribution, but I don't know which is the best kit, what do you recommend me to choose, original BMW OEM or compatible? Or other brands? For example Fai ?

Hi CRANK Im planning to change my timing on 2012 bmw 320d f31(automatic)...I am not still sure i get it one thing... When you install and align the high pressure pump sprocket(gear) using that special tool rotating for 45 or 11 degrees(whatever) , do i keep the other tool fixed on camshaft or not. could you clarify me on this please and thank you very much for your support

There is no specific way for installing the oil pump. You can install it as you want, the crank doesn't need to be on TDC or 11 after TDC, this is only for HPFP. And yes I show this in the video detailed as much, just watch the whole video with little bit better focus what is shown.
@@tiagocardoso7753 I did the job, it’s always best to follow the manufacturer guidance but seems like @crank3646 had his way as he is a lot more experienced. But the bmw e90 with n47d20c engine ...do they not need also the new tool ?

Could painting a timing mark for the fuel pump be an alternative to using that special tool?
Isn't the con rod bold torque dependent on what type of con rod bolts you have? As far as I know, there are two types of con rod bolts
