Better Call Saul is the prequel to the award-winning series Breaking Bad, set six years before Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) became Walter White's lawyer. When we meet him, the man who will become Saul Goodman is known as Jimmy McGill, a small-time lawyer searching for his destiny, and, more immediately, hustling to make ends meet. Working alongside, and often against, Jimmy is "fixer" Mike Erhmantraut (Jonathan Banks), a beloved character introduced in Breaking Bad. The series will track Jimmy's transformation into Saul Goodman, the man who puts "criminal" in "criminal lawyer."

If someone is useful to him, he tends to treat them as valuable until they no longer serve his purposes but, even then, he's pragmatic about his goals. He likely would have let Gale work for him for as long as Gale could produce & wasn't a liability & treated Gale with respect & support to foster loyalty. It's also sad that Walt used to be like Gale. He was just as passionate about chemistry, but the falling out with G&E made him cynical.

What I always wonder is that Gus planned from a start that Don Eladio will find out about his lab right? So he will have chance to kill him. Maybe he was really hesitant to let Gale be part of operation, because he thought he couldn't play the part when time comes?

Because he respects Gus. He knows how much he owes him both through his later work and the scholarship and the undoubted bonus cash gus would have given him for testing the drugs as he did. He respected Gus and Gus respected him which is why I enjoyed their relationship as it was portrayed. I think Gale and a Jesse free from Walt's influence would have made the ideal cooks for Gus

I think Gus was genuinely fond of Gale, since the man he loved (killed by Hector at Eladio's) was a chemist as well and Gale did receive a scholarship established by Gus in the name of the latter's late partner.

the fact that gus didnt even seem to want to put gale in the position of cook in the first place makes his death so much sadder. gale was just an innocent guy who liked chemistry a bit too much so he dabbled in the less than legal side of it.
