He seriously has a nice touch on the kit. I have definitely learned a thing or two from watching his channel. I absolutely love that Meinl ride with the rivets
This man took a 30 dollar brandless crash... *Ahem* "Ride Cymbal" beat the shit out of it with a hammer, buried it, wrote Minle on it, and claimed it was played by a Prestigious Saxophonist in attempts to sell it....Best Channel on UA-cam.
Man, at my music school we got cymbals worse than that. Some students gave them away to the school because the ones we had would be stolen even by the own security guys or somethin' So now we got the brand new 14-inch rusted alloy tetanus hi-hats and the 16-inch modern bent shit-blasted FX Crash
I did the same with a friend's china. it was a crappy-ass china cymbal, so we thought of modifying it. At first I hammered it as hell, but using an anvil (actually a sledgehammer head) so hammering would no compromise the integrity. Then I put the cymbal on a drill to make it turn like they do in cymbal manufacturing, and sanded it until the finish was smooth. Then I drilled holes, 3/4 inch to 1 and 1/2 inches, and honestly at that point it looked real pretty. Still sounded like crap, but a prettier crap.
there are some filter and effects on the audio. So it isn't true representation on how it actually sound like. I can guarantee, they sound TRASH irl, the only cheap cymbal that sound decent are if it's used on hihat.
What music is this on these time stamps? It sounds so chill, laid back, and beautiful. Is this one of your music that’s going to be released soon? 4:24 & 4:49
Okay okay, firstly you didn't bury your cymbal not deep enough (you know the 6 feet rule) , and secondly you didn't let it age enough. It takes a good month or two for the earth to transfer its warm tones to the cymbal. Also, if you try again I'd suggest you burry it in a wet soil, not too sandy and with a good clay and humus content. The moisture will help the surface to oxidate which only aids with the transferal of warm earthy tones to the buried cymbal
My favorite cymbals will always be dream bliss cymbals. I know there's probably better more expensive ones out there. But as soon as I tried them out in highschool, I feel in love. I don't drum anymore because I'm broke, but if I ever can in the future, I'm definitely snagging a set.
My 20" Dream Ride and the 15" hats are godly. I got a solid deal at my local music center, and I like using medium-thin 20" rides as crashes, so it's a perfect sound there. Closest substitute I could find for an old vintage 19" Meinl I abused past its use back in the day.
@@jamesmcmackin8773 man they really are a treat to use, my other band mates found it weird that I liked them so much, they would always say a cymbal was a cymbal no matter what brand/model, then laughed at me for liking the look of the dream dark matter cymbals, and called it a blue corn chip.
@@josezuniga3747 I always liked Wuhan's traditional lines of cymbals. They've gone up in price slightly over the years, but are still very competitively priced for being handmade B20 bronze. Dream is essentially just a logical step up in quality (and price) from those. The decidedly thinner weights are great for a crash/ride if you don't mind a bit of a wash to the tone.
6:23 I can tell you have studied with the great cymbal smiths :) All jokes aside, this is a great uploads....shows that with a great drummer, you can make about any cymbal or drum sound good!
1:33 BAHAHAHA you got yourself a brass plate! Like the stock ''cymbals'' that came with my beginner drum. I tried piling them to make a stack, but they aren't even good enough for that. For Wish: brass > b20
I always use brass stacks, especially for "clap" sounds. Were yours the heavy kind (like ZBTs/other big 3 starter cymbals)? Because these are super thin which is what you want for stacking.
Hey man, thanks for what you’ve been doing, I’m currently in quarantine cuz of covid, but your videos have been awesome and they are just what I need right now when I can’t be near anyone or do anything. Thanks bro.
You know, for $30 dollars and some hammering, I might just do it - I'm in need of a medium size trash cymb for my tom side, but am not down spend on an O Zone right now I would consider making a hammered stack with it too
after everything you put that cymbal through it turned out as genuinely not a bad trash crash and at least you made it sound kinda more like a ride cymbal albeit a very bad one lmao
I had a dream today, where I was at rehersal space with you Zack. For some reason we were shirtless.... You know, I like girls, but it was nice dream and we played some drums))
I honestly think non-drummers wouldn't be able to tell it was in the kit. I would love to see a wave form comparison to another more expensive symbol. Keep up the work man.
Hell yeah I love I found your UA-cam channel, loved the zelda music in the background, your drumming skills are awesome I'm trying to get good at playing as well, taking some time but I'm seeing progress
8:46 is there a name for this type of style? Or like is there a name for that type of groove/beat i dont know what to call it sorry im not super knowledgeable about drumming.
Although it’s not the exact groove, I did just get finished listening to that tune “kipling theme” by kamasi washington before i sat behind the drums in that clip haha
Zach grooves, I really dig what you do and I like your sound. I have watched all of your videos and I like to see you grow... And become a better musician
My first drums came with 15" crash/ride cymbal, I modified it too (smashed it and threw like frisbee a few times) and now its the perfect thrash china ever
These cheapass brass cymbals are actually great for stacking/fx since they're so thin, and you can even bend them to nest together the way you want! I'd recommend buying used though, often sold with beginner/kid's drum kits. Wish/Alibaba often have kinda scammy marketing like we see here, and the prices aren't great.
Hammering really improved the sound quality! Gonna try that on my e-kit cymbals , thanks Zack!
🤣🤣🤣

As an E-Kit User, can verify this is true.
Deleted system 32 also, big improvement
The "Minle" Killed me.
Wtf it’s Brandon
We need to compare it with a Pistea and a Zidjilan
That cymbal doesnt even sound that bad when played by a skilled drummer like Zack
Facts though.
It's also edited
His mum played it best
Honestly I was digging the last groove. No pun intended.
it still sounds bad

What a class jazz drummer, not many these days.
That’s a lie, there are countless talented jazz drummers in every single town
There are many.
Eric Harland and Marcus Gilmore are among my favorite contemporaries :) check them out if you haven’t already!
too many in nyc, thats a fact

A lot better ngl
There's a reason they make cymbals like that!

Yeah it sounds pretty bad lol BUT I love making stacks with poopy cymbals. And honestly after you hammered it 🍆 it actually sounded pretty good
Yep! In stacks, only thinness really matters
"🍆"?
I'll be expecting to see a video of you using this in a gig lol. You will definitely get 10k likes today
It's going to be great.
he’s at 11k now

It's nice that you brought a digging expert along when you buried it.

“It took six months to get here?”
“Eight months.”
“Okay, good.”
Love it 😂
got to mention the hammer hits synchronized with the music was very satisfying
