All of your videos have really naturally written scripts and great, relaxed narration. This keeps them all really easy to listen to, and their relatively short length makes them easy to watch in one sitting. Keep making cool stuff!
Axelay is amazing. I still remember when me and my friend reached Lv 2 and the screen shifted from behind the ship to side view - we were blown away by that. It's what made us go all the way with the game, and then reaching the final stages where the intro music started playing, that was emotional. It was very much a " _It's time for revenge._ " kind of moment.
Hands down, this is easily the best game on SNES that’s not a Nintendo Classic or Squaresoft RPG. The gameplay was excellent, the graphics were the best on the system, the sound was fantastic. The added tactical component with the different weapon systems made each level feel differently based on the weapon layout of your ship. It really let you experiment which weapon is best suited for which type of enemy. Great stuff! And the final stage! Holy crap! Once you made it past the huge battle ships you entered a cave like base. It was dark and silent for the first minute or two, but after that the lights slowly started to go on and the final boss music started playing. This scene alone still gives me goosebumps to this day. And don’t even get me started regarding the final phase of the final boss. The background started to move so quickly that you were totally overwhelmed by the feeling of speed and danger because - logically - the base went up in flames and you needed to escape the explosion while blasting the endboss into oblivion! This visual overkill had epilepsy written all over it. An absolute masterpiece and to this day the single best shoot em up I ever played. And that includes Ikaruga. Great videos by the way! I currently binge all of them after some UA-cam recommendation out of nowhere. :)
I myself recognize the sheer volume of great shooters on the Turbografx16 / PC Engine, but yeah this one made me lend attention to the SNES back in the day for good reason...it was and is absolutely top notch.
Unkai and Colony are my favorites, too. I even have remixed versions of them and they're AMAZING. Alexay is an awesome game. I'm happy to say I experienced it when it was first released. After reading the rave reviews on EGM, I ran out and had my parents buy it for me.
I found the mode 7 graphics usage of the vertical shooter stages very hard on the eyes and tough to get used to, but the horizontal stages were amazing to me. Music was stellar though!
Hell yeah!..Axelay is one seriously good shooter snd just another example of how well this genre was in fact represented on the SNES... doubters take note.
Super Aleste / Space Megaforce was my favourite shooter on the SNES. Axelay never came out in the UK but I did get to play the import version because a friend of mine bought many imports. I was lucky enough to play Axelay here back when it was the console to own and I have to say games like Axelay, Super Aleste and Rtype 3 really made me feel that I wasn't missing anything on other consoles because in my opinion the SNES games are best in their respective genres. I know shooter fans talk about how great the Megadrive and Turbo Graphx shooters are but to be honest I compared them directly to SNES shooters that I had played at the time and I much preferred what was on offer on the SNES compared to those consoles.
Matthew Simplay it came out in the uk, I have it! The snes has a few good shooters and axelay is one of them but in this genre it can't compete with the megadrive or pc engine.
Holy shit that Lava boss thing at the end. I played this a little back then, but I was a bit too young to be good at shooters. That another game into my SNES backlog.
It's a game best enjoyed as an adult I think - the shooters weren't for kids. Nice to enjoy now. We got our SNES for Christmas 1991. I was 5 years old .
First time I seen this game was amazed by the 3d effects and that music was just stunning Not sure why u say no slow down because at least on the pal version it does but doesn't distract too much from otherwise stunning game
The eye focus trick I did in boxing, but I also do in shooters. I have neverheard it mentioned except when describing it to other people who then called me insane. Ps I completely forgot this game.
The game is visually beautiful, really, but I always found this mod 7 applied to it strange, as it looks like a giant roller. Because of this I prefer the side-scrolling stages. The music isn't that memorable, but it's good.
I've REALLY wanted to give my first serious try on a shoot em up but wasn't sure which one to start with that would interest me enough to give it a serious try. I've tried looking at many top 10 shmup lists and everything but couldn't get a good answer but this video was the first time I REALLY saw shoot em up gameplay that got me really intrigued in the world and game. The art direction and technical graphics are both fantastic looking. Does that sound like a good idea to start with axelay? Great vid! thanks!
+ArtifiShuL Instinct It is a good place to start, just make sure to dial back the difficulty to "Easy" to start with. Phalanx is another good game to start with because it's pretty forgiving.
Awesome thanks for the tip man! Always love your quick responses. I'll definitely start on easy but as far as other games to try I don't mind it being hard or punishing as it's expected with the genre. The biggest thing for me is the game being the most fun and engaging to keep me motivated to keep trying over and over again.
I remember for quite a long time, axelay was by far the cheapest A-Grade shmup you could buy on ebay, easily in the 5-10€ range. But those times have since been gone ofcourse
Andrew Pearson If some fundamental flaw in the fabric of spacetime leads to me getting "internet famous" then I give you permission to smother my face with a pillow in my sleep.

I must one of the few who hated this. Headache inducing scrolling and flicker with a farty weapon arsenal to boot. I just don't get the appeal. Super Aleste, Gradius 3, R type and tons of other shooters wipe this. I agree it has an original quality about it but it just does not satisfy me one bit.
For a game that's nearly 30 years old, Axelay holds up very well. The music and the graphics are still awesome. Still a fantastic game.
All of your videos have really naturally written scripts and great, relaxed narration. This keeps them all really easy to listen to, and their relatively short length makes them easy to watch in one sitting. Keep making cool stuff!
Lamsaturn Thank you!
"Axelay" & "Life Force" were the two games that made me fall in love with space shooters. I miss those good ole days of gaming!
Gameplay and graphics look amazing. Hard to believe this is a 1992 game.

I always not shoot anything to hear the being of the background music …. What a masterpiece
@@Extravaganza50667 what a masterpiece indeed!!
snes era will always the best gaming life for me at that time
konami = king of shooter
square = king of rpg
capcom = king of fighting and beat em up

I would say this and UN Squadron are the best shotemups on SNES, and some of the best ever
One of the best! I still need to find one for myself.
Emulation CAN be a great thing.........unless you are one of those so called "purist" ass hats 😜
DM me ill send you one a have an extra
Most people will mention a Mario,Zelda or even Chrono Trigger..
But this is SNES to me.
The OST is absolutely amazing!
OMG Axelay is an awesome game! The music, the difficulty, the graphic. What a great game!
And i'm still waiting for axelay II (i feel ya jm764)
Axelay is so good. Proper ending too. What happened to you Konami......
Being a Turbografx-16 fanboy I can safely say the many Snes shooters like this are still awesome.
Yup. I mostly get my shooter fix on the MegaDrive and Saturn so even a Sega guy like me is jealous over some Snes shooters :)
I myself recognize the sheer volume of great shooters on the Turbografx16 / PC Engine, but yeah this one made me lend attention to the SNES back in the day for good reason...it was and is absolutely top notch.
Axelay is, like all the other Konami Shooters on the Super Nintendo, a graphic and sound/music orgy. That's the best way it can be described.
I'm still waiting for Axelay II, Konami! -_-
Still a great game to play to this day, wish it could get an HD remake. ^_^
So am I. On both counts.
Waiting here too man
Love this game - rented it once waaay back in the 90s and it’s quality holds up today
Colony is one of the best music tracks on the SNES, period.
And Unkai!
I like Silence the best but really the whole soundtrack is amazing.
Unkai and Colony are my favorites, too. I even have remixed versions of them and they're AMAZING. Alexay is an awesome game. I'm happy to say I experienced it when it was first released. After reading the rave reviews on EGM, I ran out and had my parents buy it for me.
What's "colony", the first side scrolling level tune? That and the cave level have the coolest tune's
I found the mode 7 graphics usage of the vertical shooter stages very hard on the eyes and tough to get used to, but the horizontal stages were amazing to me. Music was stellar though!
the barrel effect perspective isn't _mode 7_ . The game only utilizes mode 7 on the second level boss.
This was the second game my cousin got for his SNES. Not Starfox or Street Fighter. This.
I thought he was crazy but it was an AMAZING game!
That's some epic mode 7. Looks amazing.
actually a raster effect. There *is* some great Mode 7 in the ending.
My japanesse version was my prized SNES possession back in the day. Love the switching from side to horizontally scrolling levels
Hell yeah!..Axelay is one seriously good shooter snd just another example of how well this genre was in fact represented on the SNES... doubters take note.
Nice video! I really enjoy this channel!
Super Aleste / Space Megaforce was my favourite shooter on the SNES.

Axelay did come out here, i had it. it was a pretty rare game tho they probably didnt make that many pal copies.
+R TYPE 90 Yeah every copy of Axelay I ever played on the Snes was an import copy but yeah it was fantastic
Matthew Simplay it came out in the uk, I have it! The snes has a few good shooters and axelay is one of them but in this genre it can't compete with the megadrive or pc engine.

I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the developers who worked on Axelay went on to form Treasure Ltd.
Bang on, Axelay & Space Megaforce can hang with any 16-bit shmup out there. It's Blazing Lazers on gamma rays.
Oooo Akelay... I LOVED Axelay
First time I seen this game was amazed by the 3d effects and that music was just stunning
Not sure why u say no slow down because at least on the pal version it does but doesn't distract too much from otherwise stunning game
Ahhh the glory days of Konami.
The eye focus trick I did in boxing, but I also do in shooters. I have neverheard it mentioned except when describing it to other people who then called me insane. Ps I completely forgot this game.
This game looks friggin dope ! I want it . I need to add this to my collection! Thanks Snes without you I would have never known about this one
Axelay does have some slowdown, but it’s seldom and mostly happens on the hard and post hard difficulties.
I need to add this one to my 'Shmup Marathon' list for Twitch. Nice vid as always SNES Drunk
What a masterpiece!!! Especially the music… It push the limit of SNES
Ah the good old days of Konami, long gone now.
This is one of my favorite games on the SNES and up until you pronounced it I had no idea how to say this name. I've been saying AKE's-LAY
Axelay was for me the best NES game from all. I loved that game and i Miss games like that, switching from Sidescrolling to that Horizontal View.
To be honest, I don't think many will get passed level 4. This game is incredibly difficult!
I remember playing Axelay when I was a kid and it's super killer. 😀👍🎮
I agree with the statement about Konami. They made some great games fro the SNES.
The game is visually beautiful, really, but I always found this mod 7 applied to it strange, as it looks like a giant roller. Because of this I prefer the side-scrolling stages. The music isn't that memorable, but it's good.
Absolutely incredible graphics for 92
We have Axelay - Sega dweebs eat your heart out.
Is there coop flying?

It sure is! By far and away the best and most impressive Shooter on the SNES! It could even put a lot of NEOGEO shooters to shame!
This game has aged extremely well. It is so amazing still!
1:26, I wouldn't say Contra, but the Duckers from the Gradius series. There's a giant ducker in Gradius Gaiden that looks just like this big bastard.
Parodius and Pop'n Twinbee look extremly good aswell.
Just beat this game today, wow the last stage is crazy lol but it only took me one continue
One of my Favorites on snes
Konami didn't make Cybernator. Gotcha!
The Soundtrack is awesome
You have to play Konami's Crisis Force on the NES
Tried playing this, couldn't get past the second stage. But i still like the game. It's fun
Awesome game and brutally tough!
When you get internet famous you will remember me right?
Andrew Pearson If some fundamental flaw in the fabric of spacetime leads to me getting "internet famous" then I give you permission to smother my face with a pillow in my sleep.
@@SNESdrunk are you famous now?
1:25
Please put down your weapon. You have twenty seconds to comply.
Are there any codes for the US version. I'm having trouble getting further than the second level.
Yes, period.
You can play Axelay almost every- day , whitout getting bored by.
The sountrack alone make this Game an Pure Legend !
and this only for an System like the Snes.
way ,. way more better than all the new Garbage games where you have to pay

my favorites of Snes are : Contra 3, Super Castlevania ( for me the Best in the Castlevania Series )
Super Metroid and Axelay of course. So what are your favorite Snes Games, let me know please ?
R Type 3 Axelay Super Metroid Earthbound Zelda
Super Mario world Contra 3 F Zero
Why snes OR megadrive? Why not BOTH?
Yep.... still waiting for Axelay II ;) Konami made the most awesome games back in the day
Where were you
when Blockbusters still existed? Lmao
Ok, you had to be playing a rom hack of this if you had no slowdown. I love Axelay but its got some of that rather bad konami slowdown.
Yeah, but not for its more unique traits like the dated mode 7 (looks like a conveyor belt), inconsistent damage and annoying weapon system.
You can add Goof troop to great games they made aha
heres an idea. You should do a "Top 3rd party developers for the SNES".
my list:
1. Capcom - because I like the Megaman series
2. Konami
3. Sunsoft
Square? Hudson? Irem? Enix?
yeah konami what happened? Where are all the new games like these?
Lol focusing and getting in a zone where you flow is "new age crap" huh? :P
Very unsatisfying game.
