- The Xbox and PlayStation Rumors are getting to a fever pitch, but in addition to their upcoming events and rumored PS3 backwards compatibility on PS5 there are also some news stories from 3rd party game developers out there too. Ubisoft is teasing an Assassin's Creed Remake, but didn't let us know which one. Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster was announced by Capcom. And my favorite, Metal Gear Solid Delta is on the way. Here's what's happening in gaming this week.

The whole physical vs digital has really nothing to do with the age of gamers honestly. Sure older gamers might like physical over digital, but the biggest issue is the internet. I live in a smaller town and my internet is restricted on speed. I have unlimited data, but it’s slow. I was excited for the new COD, but no way I’m downloading 300+gbs. That’s the biggest issue for a lot of people if games go digital. Not everyone has high speed fiber optic internet with insane download and upload speeds.
Yeah but modern physical games still require you to download 20-60gb, sometimes more, just to launch the game for the first time. The times of having a complete game on disc are long gone.
I'm considered an older gamer being in my 40s, I haven't bought a physical copy of a game for about 10-15 years
Physical games are no longer on the disc all the disc is now is a unlocked key for the game download there really is no such thing as physical games anymore besides old games
Regarding COD that 300gb download is for everything. Cod hq , mw2 and 3 content as well as Blops 6 and warzone.
@@steel5897 a lot of the games I have I can still play them without hooking up to the internet. It just won’t be the series x version of the game. Recently I got Strangers in Paradise and I could still play the game, but once I logged on I had to download the Series X version which was pretty much redownloading the whole game again. Xbox should give us the choice on what version we want when using the series x.
I loved Dead Rising, hated the timer though. Otis was a pain lol.
This generation was a snoozer wasn’t it.

About this Discless future, a recente argument impacted me a lot: no other mainstream device uses discs anymore! Only consoles! There isn't a market for discs outside some niches, like BR and DVD collectors. Thus, there is only a bunch of companies manufacturing disc drives.
I saw Snake on the image and was an auto watch, not that I don’t watch your daily posts anyway but like you, anything Metal Gear and I’m in. Just recently got to play the original MSX version.

I got a solution. Companies should do digital and physical still. But only do physical copies only if you preorder the game at local game stories. But charge maybe $5 extra for the physical copy. But the actual full game must be on the physical copy and you get the classic physical copy with manual.
Sony can barely emulate the PS2 on PS5, good luck with PS3 games.
That is exactly what i was thinking. That PS3 emulator for PS3 is going to be very disappointing.
This is a real dilemma for ponies since they always mock Xbox & players for playing 'old games' & how they don't care about older games 🤡 but I'm sure they'll praise Sony for this

People seem to forget one major thing. Games aren’t gold masters on a disk like years ago. Even if you have a physical disk you still have to download a patch right off of the bat to make it a playable game that isn’t bugged to 💩. Im all about owning our games but buying a disk doesn’t guarantee you anything these days. I’ve been buying games digitally on Steam for years and have no issue playing any of them. Don’t have to worry about them getting lost or damaged in an accident either.
So what that still means you own the game permanently regardless of whatever corprate bullcrap happens. Digital put's too much control in their hands and if you think they won't abuse the hell out of that your just stupid and easy prey for them. I push for physical media because nobody should get to take away what I paid my hard earned money on and they should'nt get to do that to anyone else either.

Sony is moving from Xbox in 2014 where phill is about to takeover to 2015 where backwards compatibility is announced for the Xbox one

There is no way they make MGS4 backward compatible. Konami will want to sell their Collection Vol. 2 with this game on it.
If they can do it for PC they can do it for PS5.

If I were to play an old PlayStation game again I would love to play the first Digimon World game from PS1. I haven’t finished it, but I played it a lot. That was a great game.
Digital games should cost much less than a physical copy.These greedy companies charging physical copy prices for a digital copy shouldn't be allowed.
My local Walmart hardly has any physical games at all. They still have some Xbox, PS, and Nintendo but it's much smaller.
This also goes for three other Walmarts within 45 minutes of me.
PS3 emulation has come a long way and is improving on PC everyday.
I still use physical media. That's how I'm playing the Orange Box on my Series X. It's not available on their store.

PS3 on PS5 is exciting if true. MGS4 through that emulator would mean I can keep my PS3 copy sealed.
Phil spencer has done a great job for Xbox as a brand and for the gaming community. I'm not saying he has been perfect at everything he could be more transparent on some stuff but without him Xbox would most likely be gone a few years back already. I just hope his team that has been built that stands behind him can continue this success into the future.
This all digital has been at least since steam, I had issues with this back in the early 2000's because I hated buying some game disks that required you to install steam first, not all PC games done this at the time, my main issue was internet speeds, max I could download back then was 52KB/S. As the years past and internet speeds get faster it just become normal to download the games on PC, I was also not happy when consoles started doing the same thing PC's have been doing for years, but again after a while I started to realise this is starting to make more sense due to HDD's and fast M.2 SDD (latest gen consoles), I understand some people would rather have their games on disks but there is one big plus about games going digital, it will make the games on disk more collectable as the years pass and probs worth more money on the collectors markets, also as for everything going digital, games/music/video etc this can open up a whole new market in trading pre owned digital media by trading digital ownership , entitlement, licence to access legally by paying a percent of every trade to the original creator.

If companies get ready of physical complete. Then I won’t be doing any modern gaming. I’ll be busting out the ps2/ps3 and original xbox.
DR games are fun but I just hate any game with a timer. Gives me so much anxiety and just takes all the fun out of it.
If PlayStation makes some of their games backwards compatible, all I can hope for is Metal Gear Solid 4 and the Killzone games.

The only real reason why the gaming industry goes only digital is to maximize their direct profit.
It's simple, in retail, the hard copy game that costs 70$ has big expenses like packaging, transportation, disc, artwork, marketing, etc.
Now, it makes you wonder why on earth the same game costs 70$ in digital form?! It is like that so the big companies can squeeze every last little penny only for themselves, and to top it off, they throw at you a 120$ deluxe version so you can play 3 days earlier... GREED

10 years ago everyone wanted remakes of their favorite games and now that happens people are complaining. I get the fact that new games like the last of us shouldn't get remakes, but a lot of these remakes are long over do.

Dude. You have to answer that for yourself. Nobody can tell you what a good batch of games are. Nobody here knows your taste. Only you do. You have to figure that out for yourself.
It's not only about physical vs. digital. It's about ownership vs. licensing. We want to own our games!!! We want to be able to play them offline. We want to be able to play them without relying on servers that will close one day! GOG has the right idea. Don't let them lull you into accepting a future where you don't own anything.
I hope physical copies of games remain or at least eventually come back. I love game collecting and it’s one of the reasons why I love gaming in the first place.

When the first thing you do when you put in a disk is install a patch that actually makes the game playable by patching all of the bugs then does it really matter? The days of having a complete game ready to go on the chosen media at launch is long gone.

If next Xbox supports digital backwards compatibility but not physical backwards compatibility, I am done with Xbox. I have shit ton of physical Xbox 360, original xbox and xbox one game and I am not buying those games again. If they don't find a solution for me to carry over my physical library to a digital library in some way in the absence of disc drive I am not buying xbox anymore. Personally I stopped to buy xbox games at all because of all the uncertainty.

Things are pretty bittersweet right now. But the "sweet" part is quite refreshing, IMHO. I'm hopeful that we're going somewhere better with gaming.
MGS4 was the first mgs experience and my very first ps3 game . I absolutely fell in love with it it was amazing .
Fast forward 2024, I really want this for Xbox .

Once we lose physical Im sticking to GOG or Im getting a game on steam for 70% off. We failed to teach newer generations how to be money smart and they have fallen to the marketing of console makers, and now theyre misinformed about physical and its benefits (among many things). Discs will always be necessary especially for when we want to legally obtain a game if said game like Horizon 4 gets delisted and becomes unavailable. A big factor for me personally, installing a game from a disc is faster than downloading it from the internet, and Im pretty sure Im not the only one facing that inconvenience.
I’d rather digital the benefits vastly outweigh physical. Also I can download a game faster than installing from disks. I don’t understand what difference between the Xbox store and steam you think there is.

People who refuse to progress get left behind all the time. Businesses, too. (Blockbuster, RadioShack, and Toys R Us are easy examples.) @@TheBean87 Physical will always offer more flexibility and options than digital, Selling a game is possible, and lending/trading games has less restrictions vs digital, and for newer games the physicals go on sale quicker and at times far more discounted than digital versions. Glad your internet is fast, not everyone can afford or even access that luxury, plus at times the internet can go down so physical avoids that restriction entirely if you want to play a game. And for switch players specifically they can avoid a download cause physical is plug n play. Digitals only benefit is that you avoid it being lost or damaged, then again one could still lose their digital account so its not really a one sided issue.

Why would Playstation fans be excited about Sony doing PS3 backwards compatibility? They don't buy new consoles to play old games. That's from Playstation ponies themselves.
Let's all drop the console wars debate for one minute and look at what these two consoles are actually doing objectively for one minute. Everything that Playstation is doing now has been done and perfected by Xbox already years ago. Do you really want to continue supporting a system that has hit the ceiling when it comes to innovation and is hindered by its own lack of resources and new ideas or will you support the system that is gaining momentum like a rocket moving out of earths gravity, is actually challenging the boundaries of gaming, is 100% committed to gaming, and can outspend any and all competition. Xbox has given the world Gamepass, a lovers gift to all real gamers, while Playstation has given the world the middle finger, can't support or fund its own first-party studios, has no real direction, and has absolutely nothing new in innovation.
For real gamers who want to see gaming grow and evolve, the choice is clear. The rest of you who wanna play it safe while growing stagnant, stick with Playstation.

I’ve been buying digitally on steam for years and they haven’t taken anything away yet. Plus, without patches your disk is practically unplayable anyways. These days they release a bugged mess and the first thing you do when you install your disk is also download day one patches and many more as days go by.
