All I wanted was some big skyscrapers and pretty buildings (still like that tbh lol), but now since I'm starting to understand how city-building works in this game and seeing how well it replicates city planning for its time, I can't help but fall in love with it again
I remember just wanting to build cities on a school night back in 04-05 when this came out! (and even more with Rush Hour!) Kids need games like this today, and Cities Skylines is a start. But it'll never be the same as some good old llama fun.
I tried to play cities skyline but i couldn't get into it because it was overly complicated. Simcity is complicated too but at least simcity has charm to keep me going.
@albert einstien when they're completely grid: that's what's wrong. I have tried playing with so many layout styles, from random sized blocks to perfect grids, even with long lines that I then turn into blocks, then fill on the inside. But all face the same problem once they grow to a point: they're too "locked". See with this layout type shown in the video, there's main roads and avenues then there's distinct, separate RCI blocks, that connect, but aren't next to, with the main lines. That way if you have a new need, say you want to install a new transportation system, it will become much easier to do so, or if you need to adjust your connections due to a neighbouring city, everything becomes so much flexible. Something that's very hard to do with all-grid cities: very locked layouts. In short, this "branched" layout offers the best flexibility, avoids inevitable traffic pollution penalties, and look aesthetically pleasing.
