    Now I know why I liked especially this part of "Bohemian Rhapsody".
    It sounds like the SWEET!
    Ace Frehley sounded on "Back In My Arms Again" like the SWEET.
    They were a very influential band.
    A great interview💯

    I knew Sweet were Deep Purple fans...and you can hear some influences on their songs. They knew each other.

      Deep Purple were fans of Sweet as well and also buddies. Their revamp version of Fox On The Run were recorded at the studio run by Gillan and Glover.

      Brian used to live with Roger Glover. Mick played in Wainwright's Gentlemen with Ian Gillian. Brian replaced Ian in that band. Lots of Deep Purple connections.

      As a huge Sweet fan, I have to admit Windy City sounds extremely close to Woman from Tokyo. A tribute perhaps, but shows how influenced Sweet (and Andy Scott) were by Deep Purple.
      Much prefer Windy City by the way, much heavier sounding than Woman from Tokyo 😉

    Great interview can't wait to see the rest. My favorite band in high school. Remember seeing them open for Foghat at Nassau Coliseum. Such an underrated band that should have been bigger but Brian's alcohol issues would derail this great band. Such a waste.

    I’m not sure how the last part of Bohemian Rhapsody is a rip off of Action. Bohemian Rhapsody was released in 1975, and Action was released in 1976.

    • @artistsonrecord
      @artistsonrecord  3 місяці тому +1

      Correction:
      The first verse has a striking resemblance to the hard rock section of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody", which was not released for another four months.

    Sweets song itself sounds pretty much like a John Lennon song in the chorus. It's probably a song that subconsciously stuck in Freddie's mind. The similarity isn't really that strong, just a descending pattern, but the lyrics are so similar, it's likely to be borrowed. But then every famous band has ripped off songs, including the Beatles. And the mighty Smoke On The Water riff is a ripoff of Maria Moita by Carlos Lyra!😄

    Thin lizzy supported Queen . Queen had to pull out of the Mott the Hoopla because Brian was ill . Andy Scott was bitter about the others in his band & he's bitter about other bands . The bloke is full of shit .i love the sweet but They would've been better off not going down the bubblegum route & being record company puppets in the first years of their career.

    This persistent notion that Queen copied Sweet is ridiculous beyond belief. So what if there are similarities? I grew up with Sweet but ffs Queen knock them into a cocked hat! No comparison! ENOUGH!!

  • @johnsoos6907
    @johnsoos6907 2 місяці тому +2

    I love both Sweet & Queen. I really don't see how Freddie ripped that off. The phase, "So you think" has been used many songs, I'm sure. Queen were not ripping off Sweet.

    • @poulwinther
      @poulwinther 22 дні тому

      @@johnsoos6907 Andy shows you through lyrics in which line the melody is copied - if you bothered to understand it. That some of the words are even same doesn't help the case much. It's also not the only lines Queen copied from Sweet.

    • @johnsoos6907
      @johnsoos6907 22 дні тому

      @@poulwinther Total bullshit. You're obviously not a musician. If you were, you would be able to discern that only the first 2 notes are the same. "So" & "you". By the time they get to "think", Freddie goes up & Brian goes down. This, in no way shape or form constitutes a melody. And Andy knows it! Andy is lucky that Deep Purple never sued his ass over ripping off "My Woman From Tokyo", with "Windy City". The riff & even the drum fill after are so derivative of that song anyone can hear it. Even you. "Bohemian Rhapsody" is in no way a rip off of "Action".
