    I did almost exactly the same thing to our Coleman 24 foot round pool. We upgraded our pump and I enlarged both inlet valves with cutoffs on them and had a fitting that brought them together. I think I bought the t fitting on Amazon so I didn't need to glue anything up. It worked great for the life of the pool. Unfortunately, the legs rusted out from the inside and we had to dismantle it but I kept all of my parts just in case we get a new one. Great job.

    Skimmers are cheap and have an easy vacuum hookup . I just mounted skimmer in the side of the pool . You can put an 1.5" or 2" ball valve under the skimmer for pump service.

    Correct me if I am wrong, because I was also told by 3 different pool stores that upgrading to bigger hoses when you have a T connector is a waste of time because it can't pull anymore water in anyways... They said you're already pulling more water in with the two 1.25 inch hoses than the single 1.5 inch hose (to the pump) can handle so upgrading to bigger intakes won't allow more water in at all....??? Only reason I ask is because I went to 3 different stores today asking when my 14 inch sand pump came in today and I was thinking about doing the same thing.

    • @Yellowdogsworld
      @Yellowdogsworld  4 роки тому

      Well, I did this configuration for 2 reasons.
      (1) more flow, and depending on who you talk to, that can be debatable. I personally think it helps since you are increasing the volume available to the intake side of the pump, thus making it easier on the pump to pull water in. less restriction = better efficiency, it may be marginal, but I think these Intex pools can use all the help they can get.
      (2) Having 2 intakes simultaneously, 1 for the skimmer and 1 for the vacuum. I can operate the vacuum W/O disabling the skimmer. During normal operation I am pulling from 2 different levels in the pool, skimming from the top and bellow the waterline.
      I will say the maintenance on this pool has been a breeze since setting it up this way.

    Learned alot from your video.. how did you convert the part u cut off the pool to fit the shut off value u never did say. I hate trying to get the hose to fit into that tiny hole they put on there then the skimmer hose always falls out. Ugh... thank you so much.

    You said you bought the grey male reducing adapter that you attached to the T at Amazon? Do you remember what they were called? The ones I bought at Lowe's won't get a tight seal.

    • @Yellowdogsworld
      @Yellowdogsworld  5 років тому

      Here is the link to what i bought, keep in mind you have to be a little creative making these guys work.
      It requires a reducer "this is what I glued the adapter from amazon into".
      You may have some gap between the reducer "THIS fits into the sanitary T" and the adapter,
      I filled this gap with epoxy, I hope this helps.

What is the size of the white one and where did you get it. If the gray adapter fits into the white adapter, and the white is suppose to be 1 1/4, then is the gray adapter smaller? Could you make a parts list for the 4 way t valve you used? We kind of did the same thing but didn’t use a reducer and are seeing some leaking on one of the inlet valves. We added some washers or o rings to the hose connection to the t, we noticed you didn’t use any washer in the hose connections, guessing cuz you had the reducers in.

    • @Yellowdogsworld
      @Yellowdogsworld  4 роки тому

      Yes, I did use the reducer in the Tee that has the intex rubber washer. I wish i had made a list when i put it together originally since I've been asked that question a lot. I don't really remember exactly what I used unless I went back and built another Tee. Question though, did the O-rings work out for you?

    • @Yellowdogsworld
      @Yellowdogsworld  5 років тому +2

      yes, i used a section of corrugated tin I had laying around to make the top. I added hinges in the back and a prop rod so i could service it. I left all the sides open as I couldn't see any real reason to close them in. It has a roof to keep the rain and sun from bearing down on it, I figure that's all it needs.

      I would not go so far as to say you could simply because there's no reinforcement anywhere else in pool besides where the factory inlet's and outlets are. There may be some risk of failure in my opinion, however if you go for it and it works, that's a cool idea with the solar heater :)

      The pool I have is a 15-foot pool... I honestly don't see why you could not go with a larger pump and have the volume and flow needed to run something like the shark vac I use. I originally tried a sand filter pump 1/2 the size as the one I have now, it really didn't have the flow rate I needed to run an automatic Vac.

But also like he said, it's close enough in an application like this that will be low pressure suction instead of higher pressure return.

      The upper port is for the return "pressure side" the 2 lower equal depth ports are both intended for supply "suction side" The main reason there are 2 ports is a safety feature that would prevent a child from getting trapped under water against the suction from the pump... 2 ports prevents that, if 1 gets blocked the suction diverts to the other. • @Yellowdogsworld
      @Yellowdogsworld  5 років тому

      Yes, and no. having 1.5 fittings at the pool allows you to have cut offs at both intakes I need this in my application. The 1.25 fittings don’t allow this. The output flow rate may or may not be affected by the 1.25 vs 1.5 hoses from the 2 intakes, however I’m going with the theory less restriction in, = more pressure out

    • @chaseb5585
      @chaseb5585 5 років тому

      @@Yellowdogsworld No, what I mean is, why can't you use the current splitter but put intex adapters on the 2 sides (like the one you showed in your video that you said you bought but didn't like as well), which would then adapt those 2 sides to the 1.5" connecters and hoses? Instead of making your own splitter. You would still have 1.5" connectors at the pool with separate shut offs. You'd just have an extra shut off that you really don't need. I just wondered if your homemade splitter was better in some way than using all intex parts. Hope that all makes sense.

      Ok, I think I follow you now, I had to read through it a couple of times. I think that idea may work W/O having to make a custom T.... Thanks for this and your previous video as well. It helped me a ton with modifying my Bestway 12' x 30" pool for the Intex 2500gph filter. What's your take on adding a thru-wall skimmer like the Hayward SP1091LX? I've seen that others have done it with their Intex pools. In the spots where you made the cuts to replace the 1.25" stems with 1.5" hardware you mentioned staying within that reinforced section which makes total sense. My concern is the stability on the non-reinforced part of the liner once cut after the thru-wall skimmer installation.

    • @Yellowdogsworld
      @Yellowdogsworld  6 років тому

      I personally would not be willing to take the risk. My concern as you pointed out is the non reinforced area possibly failing. The rail mounted skimmer i'm using is getting the job done, and the rest of the pool is holding up just fine. I don't think the gain out weighs the risk when there are alternatives that don't require cutting a hole at all.

I have test it, if I don't use the hydro aeration I use a lot more chlorine to keep the water clean and the chlorine at the right level. It is like in an aquarium, it gives oxygen to the water and help it to stay clean. A guy has even create an hydro aeration system for grounded pools cause he noticed that it was really usefull on intex pools. It also don't cut down the flow.... Its a safety feature, to prevent a small person from getting trapped against the suction from 1 hose, with 2 intakes the suction will just pull from the open one. Adults don't have much to worry about but a small child could drown in a situation like that.

    So basically you wasted your time. By using the 1.25 to 1.5 adapters you essentially reduced your flow rate to the same as if you just used the 1.25 inch hoses the whole time. Flow rate is determined by its most restrictive point. Completely wasted all your other work and money spent on the 1.5 hoses and valves.

    • @Yellowdogsworld
      @Yellowdogsworld  4 роки тому

      You missed the other purpose in this project, I wanted to have a shut off on both intakes. This makes it easier for me to maintain the pool with the shark vac, while still using the skimmer. You are correct as far as the restriction at the T using the adapters, however when both valves are open, your still increasing the flow rate to the pump.
