I know I was late on the start but I rather the see the M try and make up the ground as opposed of it getting the jump and pulling away.

Cant forget that the "M" car adds much more then pulling away.. Handling, and Braking are Key factors, along with many other nice touches. Take them both to a track "not straight line" and you will see the real difference!
Most real tracks won't allow an SUV on their track, for good reason.

Yea that M is 155-170hp more than the 50i but 50i is no joke that moves
The 50i is not slouch but it takes a lot of HP to make up that ground and catch up from a vehicle already that quick. You see can the M has the legs.

50i is a fking beast only 0.2 sec difference in real world driving from M save 20k and get 50i... 0-60 4.2 sec each time in mine stock
My 2014 BMW X50i with 85Kmi on the N63TU engine failed CA idle smog test due to failed valve stem seals. The issue is covered in a class action lawsuit Isley v. BMWNA. BMW policy is to change the engine out for a refurb and my portion of that work would be $8K. Instead, I elected to pay Brian at Performance Motorwerk in Dublin CA do the work using the superb AGA N63TU tool set. Elring 199-440 seals are the best choice. I may be among the first to be affected by this problem on the N63TU since smog tests are not needed during the first six years of a car’s life. It’s not a question of IF but WHEN this will happen to all N63TU S63TU engines, so be forewarned.
I've got the 2013 50i with 64k miles. Failed smog visual due to stems as well. The stealership don't want to do anything about it, going to get new stems as well.
Only have them install Elring Viton seals, not BMW seals.

So in a real life scenario on the street where you don't exceed tripple digits, it's basically a toss up. That means that the G05 is basically on par with the F85
You are correct. The G05 M50i X5 runs identical 0-60 and 1/4 miles to the F85.
The F85 X5M is about 8 tenths of a second quicker than the F15 50i to 0-60 if perfect start and perfect launch using LC. However, on the street without launch control light stop light to stop light racing its whoever gets the jump. The M will start to pull after 60mph and 100mph should start to walk the 50i very hard.
I guess that’s what I wanted to show in the video. 50i isn’t slow and could hold its own against the M if the speeds don’t get ridiculous.
I believe the F15 50i also runs identical 0-60 times to the E70M as well. Each generation they keep getting better.

I kinda doubt it for a 1/4 mile due to the fact that none of the launches were clean. The M woulbe ahead everytime at the top of 2nd gear. The M is hopefully my next purchase. 🤝 in that same color or white!

Try pumping your brake pedal once before fully depressing it when using launch control. That’ll stop the car from creeping when trying to launch

You should see the look some some AMG owners faces when I pass them. They speed back up and look at me like they want to do something about it but they can’t.

The comparison i would be interested in would be driving characteristics instead of a drag race. Its a given the M will be faster. I drove a 50i before i bought my M in 2020 and i might be wrong but seating position felt more upright like a truck in the 50i which makes no sense
I know I drive a slower vehicle, but I have to go around "M" cars all day. I don't see the point if you don't even want to do the speed limit?

I currently drive a X5 sdrive35i and I want to upgrade to a X5M or a X5 M50i but I’m still indecisive on which one to get.
If you are thinking about the M, and it's within budget, go for the M.
The acceleration is only a small fraction of what its truly capable. Also, some people only see he pull slightly, but in reality he got a jump on me and the M quicky reeled in the 50i and passed him.

I’ve got the 50i and I’ve had it remapped.
It now doesn’t sit very well in D with auto handbrake, because tick over is faster.:(
So when stationary for a while I slip it into P.... problem solved :))
I wouldn’t get remap removed tho, it’s made the car awesome, it even changed the exhaust note:)
I would have suggested both vehicles use dragy and see the differences in the results. The timing for each race was very off.

You should put both cars on launch control, and release the brakes the second you hear the third honk. Cause your just slamming on your throttle but your not really preparing the engine to load itself.
Yeah I tried that on the last run however the 5M start creeping forward. I wanted to go again but I also didn’t want to press my luck.

It's not a 5.0 is a 50i. Engine size is actually a 4.4l

The 3rd one, both vehicles were in launch mode. Unfortunately I left first. The black one has 3rd row.
The black X5 50i wasn't the tuned one that you had?
It was tuned when I owned it and when I took it into the dealership they did a software update which removed the tune unfortunately. These runs, both vehicles were stock.

I had it in its most aggressive mode. However, the 50i got a jump. It takes a lot of power to be able to pull a car back in when that happens!

Apparently downpipes dont do much unless you flash the ecu

Yes the M is 100% worth it if you like can appreciate the whole package. The extra acceleration is only a small fraction of all the extras you get.
In looking into x5m between 2010, through 15. Is there a huge difference?
2015 was a big jump. The transmission went from a 6-spd to an 8 speed automatic.
The technology was also improved since it was a newer generation.
The E70 chassis has already reached the bottom of depreciation while the 2015 F85 isn’t quite there yet.
don't buy used X5 with more than 60k mileage, endless money pits

I own a 2017 X5 35iDrive with 31,000 miles. I have a warranty until 2022. I have mostly owned Lexus vehicles. I have never owned a BMW vehicle. I am considering trading the X5 for a Lexus RX 350 F Sport due to the Lexus brand being very reliable. Thoughts anyone?
I like the Lexus and it’s a reliable car and luxurious. However, I love driving and the feel is numb. It has. a lot more body roll and engagement isn’t there. If you love driving you may want to reconsider holding on your BMW.

It would be a big mistake IMHO. I drove an RX 350 F Sport before buying an X5 50i (2018), the RX was 2019. The RX is very slow and the infotainment system is beyond bad! I tested the fully loaded RX and it was almost impossible to navigate the screen properly and no Apple CarPlay. Besides, the driving is very numb.
@@iamyoda66 I know that the RX 350 is not the same vehicle as an X5, but the RX 350 would be less expensive to maintain. The issue that I am having now is that in the Atlanta, GA area the dealers only want to give me $28,000 to $30,000 for trade in. My 2017 BMW X5 sDrive35i is loaded with options. I am now researching the 2018 Gmc Yukon/Chevy Tahoe models, but the used car values are very expensive. I am single guy, so I don't know if I need that large of a vehicle.
@@corpnupe85 If you want a Lexus SUV, I’d highly recommend the GX instead of the RX. You might get one for similar price and you won’t have to put up with the terrible RX infotainment. The GX is very reliable as well. Yeah, the sDrive is much harder to sell on the used market because it is rear wheel drive only and has limited appeal. The Lexus dealer had allowed me to keep the RX for a day and I drove it around for a few hours and honestly, once you have lived with an X5, the RX will be a disappointment. The GX is a completely different type of SUV so it might be appealing since you’ll have pros and cons compared to the X5. My 2 cents worth...

I'm looking to buy the 2015-16 X5. I want an 8 cylinder car. So looming at the X5m vs x5 50i. Both have more power than I would ever need so power isn't important. I want to know which is more comfortable or if both are same. It will be used as a daily with long journeys on the weekend. The x5m is around 30% more expensive here. So is it worth the extra money. Having more features and better quality inside would be important so are they the same or what? Anybody who has driven both please let me know.

X5Ms are really stiff (Seats/Suspension), M50i would be better daily driver.

Interesting video. I drove an M50i for a few days thinking of getting one. The sound and acceleration made me giggle all the time. But the car did not feel "planted" to the road. It felt like driving a big SUV and was a big change from my 3 series. So, I drove the M40i X3 and it was a funner drive and more sure footed but did not have the same effect as far as the sound and acceleration. Also, it was not a car that ever time I parked it and walked away that I did not glance over my should for a look. Took the M40i back to the dealer and he offered me a smoking deal on an X3M Competition...one that I am still contemplating. I don't know if 500HP would make me look back over my shoulder and enjoy the car more.
I’ve heard nothing but great things about the X3M! The M40i is a great choice as well! The X3 M40i is more subtle minus that throaty exhaust note. However, if you don’t look back at the car after parking it, it’s not the right car. The X3M is visually more sporty and racy, and that could be more appealing, and give you the planted feel you’re wanting.
@@eddiemcars what annoys me is the M and the M Comp have the same stinking wheels as the M40i. Except for the slight variation in the grill there is really nothing that sets it apart visually. I'm buying a 911 in 4 years and want a hotrod SUV as my daily driver though I hate swapping out snow tires. Will look at AMG GLC63 too but its smaller cargo-wise than the X3.
Have you considered the Porsche Macan GTS or Audi SQ5? I’ve drove both of them and thought they wee good competition for the X3m40i

Incorrect. You're thinking of the first generation N63 in the E70 platform which was plagued by oil consumption and draining batteries. The N63TU in the F15 platforms were totally revised & redesigned from the ground up by BMW and are very reliable and potent.
