      That’s awesome that you’re learning Spanish. 🙌🏽. It takes decent work but is super worth it. I get what you mean-it’s tough practicing in an English-majority place because sometimes you don’t feel like switching to Spanish with someone since you’re not sure they want to speak in the language or you’re worried about slowing the conversation down. I did a lot of solo speaking practice before talking to other people.
      This might help. It’s a video on the strategies I used to solo-practice speaking. Hope it helps 🙏🏽: ua-cam.com/video/a5Woa4zNhWI/v-deo.html

    How did you get your base knowledge of Spanish? Purely started from scratch through apps and stuff?
    I am currently using Duolingo and listening to Spanish music and shows as it’s meant to help however I don’t know most of the words being spoke so at times it feels pointless but this video seems genuinely awesome. That fluency will be coming on quickly!
    Well done man. I need me a Spanish buddy to practice with lol

    • @JerryRegistre
      @JerryRegistre  2 роки тому +20

      Let’s go!! The journey is so worth it. The key to comprehensible input (what you’re doing with watching shows and listening to music) is to find content where you understand around 70% and around 30% is new. So if you watch 10 seconds of a show, 3 seconds should get you to scratch your head. Much more than that and you’ll start to tune the show out. Much less and it might not be challenging enough. Once you find the right content, you’ll feel like you’re pushing yourself and learning, but it’ll also feel fun because you understand most of what’s going on.
      I got my base of knowledge from reading those grammar, vocab, and phrases books in school just to get the bare minimum so I could start understanding 70% of simple shows. I used to watch kids cartoons at one point to pick up the basics in the early days.
      You’ve got this! I’ll try to make some videos sharing good materials to start with for beginners when I get more time 🙌🏽

    • @teewithey5879
      @teewithey5879 2 роки тому +9

      @@JerryRegistre bro, that’s an awesome tip; I really appreciate that and taking that advice, I think kids cartoons are the way forward for me at this point but not something I considered till you mentioned. Sweet for the suggestion and the percentage comment.
      I’ve been picking up the basics for 51 days straight days and can string together basic sentences but you know when you get too confident and you look up a Spanish video and then realise all the thousands of other words you don’t know haha. For real though, I’m enjoying it and seeing your grasp of the language is motivating enough.
      Cheers broski

      @JerryRegistre  2 роки тому +7

      @@teewithey5879 haha I get what you mean 100% bro. Even native speakers can look up some academic-level speeches and feel clueless-there will always be stuff you don’t know that humbles you, stuff you crush that makes you feel like a champ, and the 70/30 stuff that put you in the sweet spot to learn. Alternating between 2&3 will keep you hyped to continue learning the language. You got this bro 🙌🏽

    Very good and useful tool, although for people who have the worst time choosing one language to focus on, I switch between 5 - 6 (out of 31 that I’ve picked up on) to listen to music and watch conversational videos to get a grasp on the languages, but good luck on Spanish, it sounds amazing! 🙏🏻😎

      Thanks, Kent 🙏🏽 Yup, that was one of the hardest parts for me-saying no to other languages so I could deep-dive Spanish. I’m sticking with Spanish only for a while, but I’ll be giddy to go and start another language from scratch again when I finish locking Spanish into my brain. Cheers 🙌🏽
