@18:58 off to the right where I solo'd @X59. I used X26 a lot for crosswind practice, being based out of KMLB until 2017. Now I definitely have to get current after seeing this. A big hello from Canada. 🇨🇦 ALWAYS LOVE your videos Sir. GREAT content. I am a 60 year old (young) student pilot and I always get so much out of your videos .. ALWAYS so professional. Looking forward to your next adventure. THANK YOU for sharing you passion of Aviation.
How cool to see you flying around my old stomping grounds! I got to visit Velocity back in their early days and was very impressed how professional and organized they were for a small shop. Glad to see it's still going strong! Thanks for once again bringing a smile to my face with your adventures!
Great video! I went to ERAU for undergrad (engineering) and worked at KSC for about 6 years until just before the Shuttle Program ended. Going to that base never got old. Glad you got to visit!
Dude. ... with the addition of Chelsea to everything else in your life, you're situation is rapidly becoming the envy of the aviation world. Chelsea is quite the compliment to everything and vice/versa. You two look good together. Thanks for everything you're sharing. Wow, just.....wow!
The canard plane such the Velocity Twin always remind me the Starship, one of the most beautiful airplane. I’m not a pilot but I love those planes and would definitely be on my wishlist if I would become a pilot.
@@commanderpip8350 The simplest answer I have is if the manufacturer of a particular experiential plane decides to invest in everything it will take to meet the government regulated requirements needed for certification, the experimental plane could become a certified plane. Additionally, if said company chose to go this route, the price for the certified aircraft will surely triple/quadruple in price to the consumer.
Back in 1970-72 I was a student at FIT in Melbourne Fl. not far from the Cape. I got my PP license at 17 and went to FIT to major in "Space Technology". Many of us sophomores were already pilots because FIT was in competition with Embry Riddle. Anyway, my point is that my buddy was also a pilot and his father owned a Cessna 172 that was tied down at Melbourne Airport. One night, I think it was during Apollo 17, maybe 16, we loaded the 172 with four young kids and flew up the Indian or Banana River and circled the very small restricted area surrounding the launch pad. It was a few days before the launch but the Saturn V was lit up like the best house in town during Christmas. The restricted area was small. This was well before the threat of terrorism. My guess is that there was a 10 mile radius restricted area around the Saturn V. Maybe less. We flew around the most beautiful picture of a spaceship with beams of light bouncing off it like it like it was made for a Hollywood movie. My only regret is that I didn't have a film camera. Back then, nighttime shots from airplanes would have been a blur unless you had special high speed black and white file like Kodak Tri-Ex and could push to at least ASA 1600 or more. After we circled the Saturn V, we flew back to the west toward Merritt Island and happed to fly over a drive in movie theater. Ever been at one? There was a strong wind from the west and a porno movie was playing at the time. Yes, back in those days porn was played at drive in moves. So what do four 18 year old's do when they are bored in an airplane over Cape Canaveral? We slowed down into the wind with full flaps and hoovered there and watched a porno before we headed home. This was 1972 and it was just a night out for a bunch of young guys.
While watching I was thinking I hope Chelsea gets some left-seat time on this trip, then saw the teaser for the next episode. Really dig the XC and sightseeing series, so am excited for this one you’re uploading. Keep up the good work.
I buddy hope you and friends are well. Brilliant flight buddy and beautiful scenery and above all what beautiful weather you have got. Stay awesome buddy and keep safe and well philip.
The airport in Abilene Texas served as an emergency landing for the shuttle since it also served as an emergency landing for large aircraft from Dyess Air Force Base. One time, the reason I never understood, our little turboprop, back in the day when American Airlines used them, was set to taxi onto that specific runway. It felt hilarious being in such a small aircraft on such a massive strip.
Josh, That flyover of the Kennedy Space Center brought back a lot of memories to me. I visited in the seventies and was inside the Vehicle Assembly Building,. I'm from New Jersey originally and my Florida Buddies Cousin, was head of quality control for Grumman Aircraft on Bethpage ,Long Island. I had a complete tour of the assembly area, the testing labs and best of all, I saw the LEM, the Lunar Excursion Module that landed on the moon. They had a mock up of the lunar surface and he said to me, look around but keep an eye out for NASA officials. I didn't have official clearance but it was a real hoot. I grew up in Jackson, NJ near Lakehurst Naval Air Station and had been in the giant hangar near where the Hindenburg Dirigible Burned up but that VAB was even more thrilling to me having grown up on science fiction. Best of luck to you both on what is going to be an awesome trip! Cheers, Frederick "Rik" Spector
I got my PPL (2002) in a 1973 C172 with a 180 HP powerplant, constant speed prop, and powerflow exhaust. Let me say, when I soloed, that plane climbed like a rocket. Haha. Thanks for the video!

“Are you gonna fan-girl” “Lil bit!” Bahaha. Love it. Having grown up in FL but living and flying in WA now…I GOTTA do that low approach when I go back home. So cool!
Speaking of real-world IFR: I just took my first fully actual flight with required (not just training) approaches a couple weeks ago. It was a ferry flight for a CAP airplane and it felt so good to be able to complete a flight with marginal to IFR conditions. The IFR rating is probably the most useful rating that a pilot could ever get imho. I have also stolen your entering runway logic check, haha. Check what's on the ground and check what is on the compass. Love the videos and can't wait for another technical video!
I used to practice short and soft field landings at Apopka - it was great practice because of the narrow strip gives you a disorienting feeling. Good times! Thanks for the video!

That airplane you and Chelsea are flying has as much in common with the 172's I flew in the '70's, as a 1965 Corvette has with the 2000 Corvette I just bought. On paper, they are somewhat similar, but like the movie of the same vintage, they really have 'Nothing in Common'.

Love flying over the NASA runway and seeing all the space vehicles. It's funny you said January 29th. I flew over to do the low approach a couple of days after lol. Hope to see you in the sky some time man. Stay safe.
A sad day at work for me a few years ago was taking a chop saw to a velocity. It had a cracked main spar and the University is very risk averse so the plane had to be cut into non-usable pieces and tossed in a dumpster. Not an hour in I started getting calls on my cell from grad students that had flown this aircraft wanting to see if I would save them some parts off of it.

I think that shuttle to the side of the runway is just a mock up... Great video :-)
The coolest oversized loads I have had was onto the Cape. The 1st time was under NASA P.D. escort!
Pretty cool to overfly that shuttle runway. Just imagine piloting the shuttle down onto that thing. Definitely a tough approach!
Another great video Josh. What are those sun visors you have? How are you able to hear your ADS-B in your headset? I'm brand new to Foreflight and my Stratus, and have tons to learn.
I lived in Florida for about 3 years and 50 miles south of Cape Canaveral. Never knew that they allowed this. Now I feel like I missed out.
