- Did AMAZON RELAY PEAK SEASON start a week early this year?
If it did, I’ll take it, but usually I don’t see nights like this until after Black Friday.
Don’t let this video fool you, nights like these are not possible 365 days/year but when PEAK SEASON begins, nights like this are not uncommon.
If you’d like to see what I make in a night as an OWNER OPERATOR contracting with AMAZON RELAY during PEAK SEASON, this video is for you

Good afternoon I just came across your channel and I am enjoying the content. Thank you for taking the time to do these videos. They are greatly appreciated. I will be starting CDL school in January and I’m exploring all options for after I have a year of experience.
I have been waiting to work for myself for years and I don’t mind driving. The decision to get my CDL license has been something I thought about for years. I’ve gotten to work with a lot of different drivers over the past 20 years from being a retail manager, and I know a good amount about the industry from doing extensive research.
Have a wonderful holiday season God bless you and your family. 🎉😊
I too come from a retail background and making this change is absolutely the best possible decision I’ve ever made. I got tired of living my life according to a sign on the time clock (No vacation approvals from 12/1-1/15 will be approved). I had come to terms with “this was the business I had chosen”, but now three years removed from it I could NEVER go back.
I’m typing this to you currently on a 2 week break I gave myself so I can be with family over the holidays. I don’t say this to brag but hopefully inspire.
Trucking obviously has its hard points and there is a learning curve (which I feel like I’ll forever be in), but if done successfully, the freedom of picking your own schedule is something I could not put value on.
I would sum it up like this, trucking made me feel like an adult for the first time in my life (I’m 47). When I was a clerk, I didn’t have money or time. When I was a pharmacist, I had money but I didn’t have time. As a trucker, I have both time and money.
I hope something here inspires you, definitely not my intention to gloat.
👊🏻🍻
Just subscribed! You are the only channel I've found so far that is transparent and deeply informative of running the Amazon Relay load board. I currently work for an AFP in Dallas TX and have been aspiring to start an MC and sign up for relay and just do it as an Owner Op. Your videos have shown me the transparency I needed to know before proceeding that there IS enough volume and margins to make it happen on my own. I thank you for that. Even though I already work in the same market, we unfortunately do not get to see what loads pay because we get paid hourly. Now onto the hard part....finding "affordable" insurance😂 i'm 23..
I appreciate the sub, thank you, I’m gonna keep working hard to ensure the videos keep coming.
With Amazon, the devil is in the details and those details are what I try to focus on. A lot of people like seeing a “money” video, but I promise the money will never come if you don’t know how to do a performance dispute or get her the proper evidence to win said performance dispute. This channel is my best attempt to show people what pitfalls exist and how to avoid them because though I enjoy working with Amazon, they set you up for failure frequently.
I like the way you’re thinking about getting the insurance quote first, this proves to be many peoples rate limiting step and it’s sad to see them start everything else, only to learn insurance is too expensive. My insurance has broken down like this:
Y1 - $40K
Y2 - $13K
Y3 (current) - $11K
As you can see, it gets better with time, but that Y1 can be alarming, especially if you’re not expecting it.
Let me know if there’s anything you’d like me to cover, I get a lot of good video ideas from people’s comments.
I’m glad you’re here
👊🏻🍻
@ Knowing how to do the performance disputes and just making sure to CYA is something I don't think most people would expect to practice when working with relay including myself because I've never been in the predicament. So you definitely have some good gems there. Not sure if it's worth making a video but my only other question is for finding insurance. I've gotten about 2 quotes so far and they both are saying between $16-17k down and $8-10k a month (Progressive & Geico) when I ask for the coverages relay specifically requires stated on their website. I have no accidents but i'm only 23. Is there a company that offers more reasonable rates for new owners/drivers? Some maybe that specialize in truck policies? Having to factor in $8k a month just on insurance for at least 6 months-1 yr before seeing a discount is possible but it shoots operating costs through the roof once you add a truck payment, gas, personal expenses etc because I'd have to go full time to make this work. I mean if I averaged revenue like you per night it would work out fine but is it smart to go into this with that much in expenses per month? That is the only wall I am facing at the moment so any help and guidance would be greatly appreciated!
@ciasiaj-m6774 The insurance the roughest part, and that’s not just my opinion, I’ve heard that from so many people.
I was 44 when I started doing this however I had two major factors working against me:
1. New CDL
2. New Authority
Perfect driving record, no accidents, tickets, but they really stick it to people when they’re starting out.
My suggestion to you would be to get a lot more quotes (≈10) and to be sure they are “bindable” quotes. I had a few companies give me a “ballpark figure” that was around $18K/year only to find out it was actually $40K/year when it came time to sign everything.
A lot of companies won’t give you a bindable quote unless you have the VIN# from the truck, my suggestion would be to head to a site like Truck Paper and get the VIN of a very comparable truck you’re considering purchasing, that way you have a more precise estimation. Finding out it’s going up 100% sucks.
I don’t have a “goto” company for insurance otherwise I’d recommend them. I am someone who likes to figure out all this stuff on my own and essentially cut out the middle man however with insurance, I found that using a middle man actually saved me money. When I contacted Progressive on my own last year, they wanted $18K/year however when I went through an insurance broker, that number turned into $13K/year for the same coverage 🤷🏻♂️
I have zero idea if they can offer out of state coverage, but I use:
Kennedy Insurance
619-797-1440
I’m not sponsored by them, just a happy customer and am including their info for completeness.
Another option (and I’m sure I’ll get hate from some for suggesting this) is to “cook your authority”. This is not the path I took however since starting this whole thing, I am aware of people who start say a medical courier business with their personal car, get their authority active, and then add on a semi truck at 180 days. Again, I have zero first hand experience doing this but I’m also an “options guy”, tell me everything and I’ll decide what’s right for me. Definitely look into it more because I’d hate to be leading you down a wrong path.
I don’t mean to assign you homework, but definitely check out these two videos:

My goal here is to have you leaving with a very realistic idea of what exactly Amazon is, I enjoy working with them, but there are bad things built into the system that trip a lot of people up. I’ve continued with it this far because the good continues to outweigh the bad.
👊🏻🍻
@@STATTrucking Thanks so much for the info! I'll definitely look into it and see what other options I can use that would still lead me towards this path. You've been very helpful and I appreciate it. Stay safe out there.
Bro just make sure you can survive 6 months. You won’t be able to get that Amazon relay till after 180 days of your mc being active.
👍👍
I made $2214 this past Saturday, 13 hour day and 485 miles of driving. My biggest day so far, mind you all empty trailers.
That’s incredible and a very nice day. All empties is just icing on the cake.

Thank you 🙏🏻
Enough to get by is the way the system is setup
That it is.

Hey Todd, thanls for another great video! I'm about ready to turn 180 days of active authority! I'm wondering if the break room has a microwave/sink or just bathroom/snack machines? The reason is I'm thinking of adding an inverter and microwave in my truck. Thanks again!
Glad you liked it!
Congrats on 180 🎉🥳🎊🎈
The bigger facilities around SoCal have what I would call a “break room” or “truckers lounge”. These have microwaves, sinks, soda/snack machines, restrooms, etc. These are like your SAN3/5 size facilities.
The smaller facilities do not have anything, maybe a port-a-potty if you’re lucky. These are like your DSD5/8/1.
I can speak with some authority on running in San Diego and can say your nights will be filled with a mixture of both types of facilities, so an inverter might not be necessary (I don’t have one in my truck). You’ll also find yourself in a bobtail situation quite a bit and just about every convenience store has a microwave. Without a trailer on your back, you can get that truck to just about anywhere. I was down in the 7/11 parking lot next to Tacos El Gordo on Palm the other night, it can be done🤣
👊🏻🍻
Love the grind and work ethic great job 👍
Thank you, I’ve never had a job that satisfies me quite like this one, I’m so grateful to be able to do it and share the experience with you.
👊🏻🍻
@STATTrucking yeah that's awesome I have a question how is the house rental market in and around your area I wanna come out to California and run Amazon in my 26 ft
About $2500 month rent for a one bedroom in a halfway decent area. Diesel is about 4.50 now. Everything's high here and it's a blue state. Can't beat the weather though. Hope this helps.
The price of housing here is a common complaint, there not really a “cheap area”. If you’re serious about it, I might consider looking at places north of here (Temecula, Lake Elsinore, etc) because that would put you right in the middle of where you’d be running. San Diego➡️Ontario is a very popular lane with those cities being right in the middle of it.
Amazon requires all equipment that is used in the state to have a clean truck check. Be sure your truck qualifies and can get a “clean truck check” certificate. I’d hate to see anyone come here only to find out their equipment doesn’t meet what is required:

@@STATTrucking I appreciate it I'm picking up my truck in January and I really want to go to California and run Amazon and do some regional stuff as well I really want to experience living by the ocean not literally but you know what I mean it's close to Vegas and La I'm going to bring my two dogs and just experience the west coast I just want to be in a safe neighborhood safe as possible with being new there not knowing the area at all and I can afford a decent amount for rent I'm willing to pay more for safety and the best area possible
You caught me sleeping outside of SAN5 😅 next time you book a load from ONT8 and it’s a empty get your arrival success and then go straight to Krameria off site
So ONT8 never has empties? If so, that is good to know because I have wasted a lot of time there trying to do what the app is telling me to.
👊🏻🍻
@ never they have them all on their off site if they have any off Krameria
Appreciate the detailed breakdown! Just a quick off-topic question: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How should I go about transferring them to Binance?
I’m glad you liked the detailed breakdown. As far as your other question, I have zero idea, sorry.
