If you are trying to push upwards of 700 whp. I will play it safe and rebuild the engine with cast iron sleeves. Forged rods, lower compression forged pistons. Also go for stroker kit to bump up the horsepower with the bigger turbo setup.
The driveline also needs to be upgraded not just the gearbox. But also the diff since we are pushing well over 800 crank horsepower to it. Drag applications see tuner upgrade the half shafts and stronger prop shafts.
If the chassis is similar to the 370Z. Those chassis bracing and suspension upgrades should be similar or just need small modifications to fit.

Unfortunately the VR30 is an open deck design. AMS has a video on their youtube channel that reveals they have a built motor that they converted to a closed deck so they could sleeve the block. They also claimed it will make 1000 horsepower, and said they want to have it in a new Z making 1000whp in the first 6 months of the car being released. Supposedly the prototype is already in their red alpha car. Haven't heard news of it at the track or on the dyno yet though. Performance shops are out of control lately and I love it.

I bought a 2014 GTR and want to do some maintenance by myself, thanks to your videos 😉 now, a video about what engine parts, gaskets, solenoids etc are the same from the 370Z or others to the GTR would be awesome. The reason is, that in my country I can’t buy GTR parts at the Nissan dealer, they exclusive to Nissan Performance centers, but I can buy Z parts there 😉

@@GTContent Depends on markups - Lotus says 5000 units for the Emira around 80k USD which isnt bad but with the chip shortage still going everything is 20 to 30% over sticker. I paid about 12k over sticker for the FK8 ....now they want 20k+ lol Had an LE on showroom for 100k+
Might wait a bit to pull trigger but the Emira with the M39 engine and 8 spd DCT fits me well ....but at 40k the Z is so cheap its hard to not save the money and just mod it lol
Emira is just so rare, gorgeous and mid engined. I prefer it over the new NSX ....then Chevy just dropped the new Z06 ugh.....what the NSX should have been. Also crazy markups there too.
My CTR will stay around 500ish whp for daily duty - weekend car should be a bit more special so tough to choose - might have to lease a few to decide. This is like the final days of ICE cars so I want to buy a classic before we are stuck with an EV
Looking forward getting my hands on this Z. I'll be tracking mine so will focus more on chassis mods. 450rwhp will be more than enough for me with basic mods & a tune.
AMS has a built +800whp VR30DETT. AMS also believes that motor can make a 1000whp.. they are just working on reliability.

@@ytsux9259 from what I have seen building motors rwd cars are more like 20% drivetrain loss at the wheels (slightly less at the hubs) fwd or mid engine around the 15% mark. So his estimate is pretty much bang on.
Great video, imo a JB4 is good enough for me. Most likely will add intakes, downpipes and exhaust just for some more noise. Not really looking at this car to be a numbers car but instead a fun daily with great power and a lot of fun that can be tracked but also be reliable.
Maybe with suspension modifications you can track it.
@@chodkowski01 I'll most likely throw on lowering springs then coilovers in the future and a thicker swaybar. The car should be good enough for the track right out of the gate though
A solid video one thing left unmentioned for the 4k kit is that cars are making monster torque figures usually 450hp/500+ torque.

I just found you channel with the c8 engine video but I’m a Nismo lover my self. But I never been in any Nissan faster than a KA-E 240sx (which I owned) :(
My first car was a 1989 240SX w/KA24E. It was a great handling car and I loved it for that.
i plan on upgrading the heat exchangers and probably the exhaust and thats about it.
Folks - We have ONE smart person here. Less = More. I'm upgrading tires, front swaybar, alignment, brakes, and enjoying the canyons 10 mins from my house that are not CLOGGED with prius/subaru drivers.
If the Z eventually comes with a manual AWD option, I will definitely purchase one!

After I've seen the performance of Mines R34 on best motoring back in the day, 600-700whp has always been enough for me. Not really Into straight line speed, just need a strong mid range for the twisties
I have a q50 on my channel. Go racebox has 1000hp q50. Tuned full bolt on q50 beats a stock GTR all day. Also VPF tuning just came out with air to air kit for the vr30 also.

The auto probably handles more torque but less hp than the 6 speed.
Well the thing is Nissan CD transmission are the powerhouse where people found out that it can hold a lot of torque and power

After all this I am thinking of a coyote with a hellion kit. Seems more bang for your buck or even a stinger you can get 800 whp at less a cost and that is awd. The real question comes down to usable power and handling. I like to take twisting mountain roads as a form of relaxation so while have to take a spirited test drive before any final decisions are made

I have heard rumors that the VR30 motor has reliability issues and that it isn’t uncommon for the first owner to use the power train warranty for an engine replacement after 40,000 miles. Can anyone confirm if the engine is worth it when it’s out of warranty?
500hp is more than enough.
The 480 pump/510 E85 hp is perfect along with suspension upgrades and dropping more weight....that would put it in the Porsche GT4 RS category.

Great info. I’m def disappointed that it’s prob around $16-19k incl labor to get to 700whp…. It cost less than that to do a full supercharger with exhaust and tune on my s550 mustang to get to the same power numbers….

The first round of upgrades is the sweet spot for me, around 100whp for $4.3k.

The Q50 wasn't really promoted as such because historically coupes never sold well. You're right though, this is kinda premature. Yes, same engine but there have been plenty of fixes that Nissan "says" they have implemented going into the new "Z". Slight criticism, just say losses the next time "negative gains" comes up. Sorta doesn't make sense and adds where it doesn't need to.

You didnt put ams air filters into the equation, those are the only ones that showed hp gain accross the board and are use as upgrades by infiniti

Slap on some coil overs, strut braces, possibly sway bars, good track tires, maybe cat back and Thunderhill/Sonoma raceway here I come. You don’t need much skill to go straight, but you need some balls to corner

Yes. AMS makes an air intake kit, but at ~$600, the performance/dollar isn't worth the small gains

Here is what you didn't take into consideration when quoting those figures, the HP/TQ output in a manual vs an auto. The known numbers are from an auto trans. That 7sp auto trans isn't the most efficient either and it's am auto. So the car might very well be able to put down at least 900hp or higher

FINALLY - a CLEAR video on the potential and ROI.
Here's my plan:
1) Clear bra on the entire front half of the car because Nissan paint is almost as bad as Subaru. This has kept my 8+ year old Z looking amazing.
2) Ceramic Coating on the paint - I'm lost on why seemingly everyone WAY overthinks this part. If you can wash a car, you can do your own ceramic without paying some RETARDED $1100 cost these "Detail" shops seem to get off on. CarPro is around $80 for a basic entry level kit that lasts 12-24 months, or you can go baller status and go for some of the more expensive ceramics. Nissan paint from my experience is a pain to deal with, so if you want to save time/effort/money/frustration, get film and ceramic on it as quickly as possible from day one! Toyota/Lexus owners have it made...must be nice! I don't care how "fast" a car is, the FIRST thing I see on peoples vehicles is all of the lateral scratch marks and paint issues, to me the JUMP out and distract.
3) Tires - I'm guessing it's going to have the same $hit show Bridgestones, so those will work for "maybe" 6-8k miles before they start breaking loose on cold mornings, so PS4's, will be a no brainer for us SIMPLE folk that drive on public roads. I know everyone else here has a personal race dedicated race track in their backyards. Must be nice!
4) FRONT swaybar - Yes, FRONT ONLY! Fixes turn in, but retains stock rear end compliance. I did this on my 370z, and despite the TRILLIONS being blown on this so called "Infrastructure" bill, I hardly doubt any roads will see improvements, thus to retain most traction and compliance under power, you do want the rear to retain compliance. I would leave the rear stock unless it's going to be doing auto-x/track time. Hotchkis $150 was easily the best aftermarket modification to any car in my entire life, just that one front swaybar turned my Z from a pig to a pig on a diet...it's still no Cayman or 911 but it really improved turn in response.
5) Alignment - My 370z from the factory went through rear tires like nobodys biz... It took me a while to figure out why - the rear camber was off and at a stupid amount. Got that all dialed in and I don't feel like I gave up anything in terms of handling for PUBLIC roads where my car is 100% of the time. So when you get those expensive tires, get the "stupid" alignment, because tire costs will continue to rise due to inflation and the coordinated supply chain breakdown (it's on purpose, because it's more profitable).
6) Brakes - I don't care what anyone says! While the stock 4-piston "upgraded" Akebono's on paper are wonderful, you HAVE to upgrade the pads at a bare minimum. I would go one step further and get the Z1 2-Piece rotors. Mine have put up with 5+ years of abuse.
7) Window tint - It'll be interesting to see in person what the stock windows look like once in production.
8) Then all of the stage 1-2 mods discussed in this video - Personally I'd just stick with whatever is bolt on/simple/reliable on 91 octane and call it a day.
The older I get the more I prefer as close to stock/simple and easy mods.

Nismo is typically just suspension, body kit, wheels, interior and exhaust. The extra power increase may come from the exhaust and a slight increase in boost.

If you can fit in a 370Z, then it'll be similar since they're using the same chassis.

I can't get passed the front. I just looks way too plain and I hate the headlights. I would have considered it if the front looked as good as the rear.
I can live with it. I never was in love with the CHROME headlights on the 370z, but over time, Jim, as vehicles around become uglier, the Z seems to age/grow with class because of it's simplicity. It's truly like a breath of fresh air on the road because all of these BETA males have bought SUV's/CUV's, so the Z just sticks out in a good way.
I’m alright with it. It looks pretty good in person I think. Also it’s a Z so it will probably have a lot of aftermarket body support and different bumpers.

this platform will see well over 1000+ the 9 speed is gonna be the icing on the cake for the vr30 the 7 speed held back the true performance for a while now we get to see what the vr30 can really do.

I believe Nissan is tweaking the VR30 to put out way more power than advertised in the Z. Borrowing the same method of the German automakers. Why else would they take so long to release it? They’re making sure the Z outguns the Supra.
The VR30DDTT is already underrated in the Q50/Q60 with it's 7-speed automatic. With a 6-speed manual, it should produce more power because of less drivetrain losses. We'll see if Nissan gives the Z larger turbos to distinguish it from the Q50/Q60.
Now that the specs are out and the supra spanked the Z in a 1/4 mi drag race, i guess nissan cheapened out.

Stillen and AMS rebuilt the Q50 Red Sport, and the crank is cheap and cracks with over 500hp. So you can only add 100hp and then you got to rebuild the engine with a stroker kit to produce 500-800hp. Stillen built a 700hp Q50 and AMS built a 800hp engine. Research their builds. And the intercoolers are NOT water cooled. Water cooled has a seperate water reservor and electric water pump, and you can put ICE in the reservor. No, this Z has hot radiator coolant circulating threw these hot intercoolers that is close to 200deg temp. These stock intercoolers are trash. So 98% will not have over 500hp on their new Z, unless you're a mechanic that owns a Z. You need a car lift to drop that engine. Engine has to be removed to upgrade turbos on all Z cars.
Might need a a bigger tire with the smallest wheel that will still accommodate the factory rear brakes in the upper hp range if you choose to go to the drag strip

Not sure about Mercedes, but Jatco manufactures it.

This video doesn't mention anything about labor cost. The average car enthusiast ends up paying for labor.
Labor costs will vary, hence the + after the estimated part price. Best method is to call your local shop and find out or DIY.

I’m having a hard time between tlx type s or this Z. Of course GTR but that’s to rich for my blood. They are both great looking cars but I just want something pure Japanese.
Two different cars and purposes. There's also a $10-15k price difference. The Z is a sportscar while the TLX is a sport sedan. Performance should be better with the Z.
@@GTContent My buddy just picked up a 2021 GTR. That thing is sweet. I don’t want a American car. I wish the Japanese would do something to rival the mustang 5.0 and all the American cars I hate at a affordable cost. GTR or NSX out of the price range. That’s why I ride, 10s all day no mods for less than a super car but not the same feeling as having a badass car.
I love the TLX type s but I want a pure sports car from Japan. I wrench on my own cars. I’m not scared to take motors out of any these cars. I have a 2000 integra gsr I’m keeping that car forever, it just has a special place in my heart. I wish when they brought that new integra out they would have retro the 90 classic.
