    I lived in Poole for 30 years, Shore Road, and the beaches were my playground. I had a 30-foot yacht moored in the harbor off Evening Hill until one day a storm dragged it off its mooring and damaged it. I was a resident DJ at both the Sandbanks Hotel and Haven Hotel I was buddies with the owner Paul Butterworth. My friend owned the Scandinavian-designed house Pieces Of Eight complete with an indoor swimming pool, those were the days in the mid-60s Sandbanks was not so developed. We had a beach hut next to the Pavillion there was no problem with parking. John Lennon was a visitor to Sandbanks as his aunt Mimi owned a bungalow not far from the Ferry. I used to sail my yacht to Old Harry Rocks bay drop anchor go ashore with the tender and go horse riding on top of the cliffs at Old Harry. Just watching your videos brought back all the memories, especially Shore Road beach where we would hang out. Times they are a Changin. Thanks for the memories.

    Lived in Poole all my life. Before my friends moved back to the USA they lived on Panorama Road next door to Harry Redknapp. They used to let us stay there when they were away which was often. Spent many fun times in the summer in their back garden watching the boats come and go. 😊

      @@WalkWithMeTim yeah £10million and does the owner have IQ score as highs my 165 which is five points higher than Ernestine and five points shy of dr. Carl Sagan .
      did you know sandbanks is famous for ... .... - -- - .... -.. -... i live only about 7.2 miles distance away from new haven hotel where Guglielmo Marconi of world first many radio transmissions . and takes me clam cycle ride about 40 mins to reach yet my CB radio signal would reach that distance instantly at the speed of light and any radio transmission travels up to the ionosphere 40 to 400 miles above then around the planet at speed of light in just 1 second around the planet x7 times , just 1 second my signal can travel around the planet x7 times . don't get any tech than that . if conditions are balanced can speak to other counties and sound and signal strength as they are down the road . radio or CB and ham radio is the first social media and still is to this day . every kiddie today only wants a mobile phone . even send data on CB radio with certain device but on HF band would take while where's higher the frequency band data sends faster .
      yeah i'm sure most who maybe richer than myself didn't even know this .

    I struggle to understand why these houses are so expensive, most of them look quite tacky IMO. So they’re on the coast, so are many other areas of the UK. Personally I feel it’s hype over quality.

    • @krob2327
      @krob2327 Рік тому +3

      I agree somewhat but I don’t think it will ever not be popular. I think it’s the idea of a gated community. They probably feel safer there but it’s obviously very detached from reality... some of the driveways need more greenery imo. All that space on them and just blocked paving

    • @stephenguppy7882
      @stephenguppy7882 Рік тому +1

      I agree totally. Let's face it, would you fork out 10 or 12 million quid to live next door to Harry Redknapp? Nice bloke but.......
      I remember before the area was developed. There was very little there and it was dirt cheap.

    • @TM-mk2zb
      @TM-mk2zb 5 місяців тому

      It’s a combination of finite supply of land, incredible views of the Dorset coast, and some of the best beach in the uk. The value of the properties is the land, the houses change style every 10-20 years and get redeveloped regularly. There’s plenty of seaside locations in the UK but nothing quite like sandbanks.

    I'm often in Poole to visit relatives. intend to move there in a few years. Here's the thing, there are nicer parts of Poole then Sandbanks or Grand designs Island as I call it. For every millionaire house there's still a bungalow inhabited by a retired couple who have no intention of moving. Then there's the matter of getting on and off the place, one B road so good luck at the height of summer. I'm not saying it's not a nice place but if you want a view go to Upton park looking out over Holes bay. The owner of the hotel apparently wanted to knock it down and rebuild as it wasn't that great looking. Rusting railings on the balcony's. I've always said Sandbanks was the biggest estate agent con job ever as I remember going there 35 years ago before it started to change. Saying that if I ever got invited to one of the millionaires houses I wouldn't say no. Good video though

      It’s basically a scam, lots of articles about how it was the most expensive place in England drummed up by developers and sellers. It is expensive but flat we own there barely went up in value over 15 years compared to London property.

    n the 1960s 70s it was a wonderful place, John Lennon bought his aunt a home in Panorama Rd. My dad wanted to buy the little garage repairs for 25000 pound but my mum objected. Pleased to see your video as I left Bournemoth 28 years ago to live in a less crowded paradise New Zealand. The chains of the ferry guide it not pull it

    Stayed in many places within Poole and Sandbanks over the last 30 years. Infact, I am here in a multi million £ vacation place as I write this. Believe me when I say that the idea that Sandbanks is always full of people and traffic is not true. During the high season, maybe, but for a lot of the year, it is really quiet. It is one of the best places in the world.

    Been lucky enough to live in the poole area for 30 years and now in christchurch. Sitting on a public bench next to the ferry on the sandbanks side is a joy that I find myself doing most weekends when the weathers lovely, the views looking towards the purbeck side are truely amazing and as good a view as anywhere in the UK. My advice to tourist travelling in a car would be to take time to park up on the sandbanks side and do the same thing with a cuppu from the local cafe as you won't be aloud out of your car while on the ferry for the short ferry crossing in either direction.

    I lived there as a 10 year old boy for 6 months in 1970. Roamed all over the peninsula as there was never anyone about. Never paid too much attention as to fences and property lines. There's a high point I found after scrambling up a slope with a full 360 degree view panorama of the bay and harbour. Totally spectacular.

    I love to get the ferry from Sandbanks, walk up along Studland beach, stop in Studland village for a pint then up past Old Harry's Rocks and follow the coast path into Swanage for fish n chips, another pint or two to wash them down and if I've timed it right and there's room I catch the boat back to Poole Quay, if not its the open top bus and more great views.
    A word of warning for anyone doing this, Harry's aren't the only old rocks you might see as you'll pass through a stretch of nudist beach.

    I grew up here! There used to be a newsagents instead of the restaurant & a racing stables tucked away where the horses were exercised on the beach early morning. The ferry was free for pedestrians & cyclists & ran 24/7. If they saw you waiting at Shell Bay they'd come over for you. Theres always been a one way road around the peninsula; we used to race our pedal bikes round it! Sadly most of the beautiful houses have been pulled down & replaced. Its very built up compared to sixty years ago; but there's always been queues for the ferry! It's bitter cold & damp in the winter......

    I walked round off can cliffs down all roads and some of the drive to the apartment blocks that look like mansions look like they have a Forrest to go through to get to the property. I was thinking can u imagine you been dropped off and had heavy night drinking and got walk up the driveway but it's not any ordenanery drive way as you have walk through forest looks like. I wouldn't make it I be asleep somewhere in my forest LoL 😂 but it is stunning to me that is heaven as I love woodland and sea air and they are stunning property. Stunning 💖

    I was there last week on holiday meeting old friends - went to Swanage so queued up along millionaires row -it is so beautiful and so expensive and so likely to be flooded in 50 years thanks to rising sea levels. At 5:19 you can see that the rental price for the property that you point out in the estate agent's window is actually a jaw-dropping £11,550/week, much higher than the £7K figure that you state (you're looking at the price for the property below). My father was one of the managers of the Haven Ferry shop in the 1960s, so during that era I spent a lot of time on the Sandbanks peninsula as a child, and although the beach was always busy, when I walked around the residential area it was peaceful. For me it's depressing to see how the peninsula has changed, although I realise that most people will prefer the more upmarket look of the area nowadays. The old ferry doesn't look as though it's changed since the 1960s though! Thanks for making the video Tim, it's well produced.

    Sandbanks is a lovely place but what no-one mentions is that there is absolutely nothing there by way of local shops. You would be hard pressed to buy a newspaper or a pint of milk or post a letter. All we found was one very small supermarket.

    Came here over from Mr Gimbal Walk - nice to see houses I will never be able to afford 😃
    But with the constant traffic and double yellows everywhere it's not really a good place. The very long and wide and golden beach is spectacular though (although this was not shown to the best advantage in this vid).
    I've been over to Brownsea Island which was very nice.

    I lived in Dorset for several years and really don’t get Sandbanks. The houses may be fancy and expensive but they’re crammed in cheek by jowl and most days in the summer, the whole area is grid-locked with traffic.

    Sandbanks is lovely, but all in all there are plenty of just as nice if not nicer places to live in the UK….not to mention far more affordable.
    Its also one of those places that comes at a premium as its all about the bling….which may or may not be your thing.
    Also its sure to be highly vulnerable to tidal surges some day….and like everywhere in the UK it gets a long cold grey winter too.

    Hi Tim did you not fancy dropping in on Harry Rednapp or Graham Souness i think if you check harry paid 10 million for his house there was an open top bus that ran round sandbanks that allowed you to see over the fences and gates of the houses great post best wishes.

    Dates me somewhat but in1965 I worked on a property here named Westover which I believe is one of the few originals left still standing. At that time John Lennon had just bought his aunt Mimi a property slightly nearer the ferry. The house was a teardown in1992 and the property standing there now is harbour gate Harry's former home. Lennon paid 25 thousand for the bungalow back then. Rog. Pacific sunset.

      @@bonk352 hi. Thanks for your reply. Five years later we bought a house not far away from sandbanks which cost us 5000 pounds. That same house we were told cost 1500 pounds in 1965 so as you say sandbanks has always been expensive. John Lennon said he thought the view there was the best he had ever seen. Some statement from someone who had even back then had travelled extensively.sadly a couple of weeks before his untimely death in new York apparently he had expressed a wish to return to sandbanks with Yoko and live with his aunt Mimi. Somewhere there's a photo of him and his son Julian and aunt Mimi having just gotten off the sandbanks ferry.thanks again. Stay safe. Rog. Pacific sunset.

    Had a property in Sandbanks for many years. Was a cool place once, but now full of loud ruff people with bad taste, who think they have class. If you enjoy have a traffic jam out side you house, paying over the odds and a over pack beach, no parking, or if you have parking in you garage drive, finding it blocked. In the evening you can also listen to the shouting and loud music from the drunken parties into the night. I moved to Bexhill it is like Sandbank was 30 years ago.

    Unrecognisable. From the days my grandparents lived in Sandbanks .they lived in a large detached bungalow in Grasmere road which had sand dunes at the end of the road. !!!long before it became a millionaires paradise. Ferry looks just the same for all that!!!. I had wonderful holidays there in my childhood/teens and until my grandparents died. Little did anyone know how it was going to be transformed!!!!

    A four bedroom chalet bungalow, in need of work has just gone on the market for £15 million! I live near Poole Park but wouldn’t want to live in Sandbanks, packed in the summer but desolate in the winter.
