Nice to see this up now. Good to see you keep the thumbnail. I thought it was a shame Jonny wasn't talking too much, but at least that changed when they started talking about ROP.
The only critic I trusted was Roger Ebert. I didn't always agree with him, but I believe his opinions and reviews deserved the professional respect he recieved. The reviewers that have taken over the sun times and publish reviews under his name are shills, and deserve no such respect. For a while I liked MovieBob. He usually had an intelligent take on movies, and he understood what a movie in it's franchise/genre needed to be in order to be good. However, he couldn't keep his politics out of his reviews, and eventually he became more an angry man ranting on youtube , than a respected, quality reviewer.
As a kid in the 70’s we use to watch the old stuff with no irony they were fantastic. Tarzan, Flash Gordon, King of the Rocket Men, Zorro & so on & we loved them, Star Wars & Indy were the offspring to those. Gen z doesn’t have that
Been a fan of Lord of the Rings since 1983 the movies that Peter Jackson made were excellent. I know he strayed from all the books but they were amazing
Joker 2 is just another movie guilty of false advertising. They hyped this thing up as Gaga being a co lead and we come to find out that the majority of her scenes were cut according to the critics which will ensure her fanbase is going to be irritated. So not only have you lost the interest of the average movie watcher but the Gaga fans you were relying on to boost the box office income as well. I dont think it will be a total bomb but will definitely not have the commercial or cultural impact of the first movie. Still gonna go see it and hope for the best but I have tempered my expectations
Damn, I was going to see it with a Gaga fan who didn't like the 1st Joker, but he's the only one I could think of to watch a musical with me. Well, I just hope it's all for the good of the script
That's sad, because her acting is actually really good. ...It reminds me of the '90s D&D movie with that one Wayans brother and Jerry O'Connell, where the villain was the best part, but all of the villains best scenes were cut from the movie and DVD extras only.
if you think 2000-2010 was good, imagine what it was like in 1985-2000. I don't need to imagine, I was there. Man things were good. Games were booming, you could make money in just about anything...stuff was cheap...people of all skin colors actually got along with each other...rock music was in it's prime...men were happy to be men, women were happy to be women...couldn't get better then that. People still talked to each other instead of texting! I know, crazy right? only downsides were the shoulder pads and fluorescent colors.
I know man, I experienced it too, best time to be alive! I'm watching TJ Hooker atm, because modern stuff is shit. Just watched an episode with 4 Star Trek alumni! Great show.
Come home from school and watch Fresh prince of bell air , Batman the animated series. Ride our bikes to the Taco Bell and get like two pounds of tacos for 10$. Having to call a girls house and possibly speak to her pops was no fun tho😮. “Can I ..speak to Jennifer ?” ‘JENNIFER, some Boy wants to talk to you.’ I GOT IT dad, hang up! *click* *talk for three hours until ear hurts* *develop actual emotional connection* I started dating in the mid /late 90s.. even the “ho’s” type girls, you had to take to putt putt golf or something. People usually didn’t just “hook up”- or even if you did, there’s a chance you’d end up dating for a little bit.
Nice to see Johnny Law! Love his reviews. Totally love his take on Ep5 of S2 Rings of Puke. Disagree with Drinker. This was not the "least bad" episode! 😋 Johnny & Maulers views match my own. I hated this episode as much as episode 4. As far as I'm concerned it had some of the most abysmal examples of writing we've had to date on this god forsaken show. The entire King Durin speech was utterly and laughably nonsensical. The writers were once again trying to be deep, but this time they demonstrated they are brain-dead as well as being talentless hacks. I have no idea how that entire scene got approved.
That Jonny Law guy was in the same year as me in High School. Top bloke. With a name like that though I guess he'd be a LawTuber. Glad to see he's not though. Best of luck to the lad.
I still don’t know what to think of Joker 2 yet. On one hand I don’t like the idea of musical elements but it seems that Gaga’s depiction of Harley is going to be a departure from the girl boss cringe of other recent depictions. We know this because her version of the character is basically just a joker fan girl which is more in line with the spirit of the original. Unfortunately it seems like the majority of her scenes were cut thus leaving her as a relatively minor character despite the false promo that would have you think otherwise. As for critics, I don’t trust their reviews at all because they said the acolyte was good. So I guess it’s just a wait and see situation with Joker 2
1:28:25 - The Orcs "growing out of the earth" was an invention by Peter Jackson. It is absolutely non-canon, in fact it breaks the lore of Orcs being created by Melkor from corrupted Elves. In his own words from the "LOTR Behind the Scenes", Jackson loved the idea of corrupted earth spawning Orcs "just like maggots spawning out of rotting flesh". In the books Tolkien explains that you had 2 main types of Orcs - smaller ones, used more as hunters and scouts and bigger ones, that were pure warriors. The bigger ones hate the smaller ones and treat them with disdain, calling them "slaves." But, to be fair, they all hate each other. Both types hate and cannot endure the sun. They cannot stand direct sunlight for long, it drains their energy, makes them miserable, in the words of Uruk Hai who have seen the normal Orcs suffer under direct sunlight - "you weaklings look cooked!" Btw, even the biggest fighting Orcs are still shorter than men and thus much shorter than elves. The Uruk Hai are a HYBRID of Orcs and Humans - Tolkien never says it explicitly, but Gandalf talking about Saruman's betrayal hints at it heavily. They CAN withstand sunlight, it doesn't bother them at all an they are as tall as men. Since it is explicitly said in the books that Orcs reproduce in the same way as other children of Iluvatar (sexually) one may ask - why was creation or Uruk Hai such a big deal? Since Orcs were literally "raping and pillaging" whenever they could, shouldn't those human women give birth to Uruk Hai? Well, no - and this is where Saruman's twisted genius comes in. It doesn't take a Human female and an Orc male to make an Uruk Hai, it takes an Orc female and a Human male. Everything indicates that Saruman had human males (most likely slaves), breed with female Orcs to make an army of thousands of Uruk Hai and was working at it for long years. Gandalf assumed that Saruman may have started this as a way to fight fire with fire, producing his own breed of Orcs in opposition to Sauron, not to be in league with him. But Gandalf suspected that even in this Saruman's mind was already being twisted by Sauron's power and the Uruk Hai breeding program may have been in fact a clever manipulation by Sauron. BTW in the appendix Tolkien mentioned that Sauron knew how to make Uruk Hai and possibly even found a way to make them even bigger - possibly Troll size as there were "Trolls living in Mordor that were resilient to sunlight", but it seems that either Tolkien couldn't make his mind about it, or simply wanted to leave it a mystery. According to him, some of them may have survived the fall of Sauron and scattered across the Middle Earth, but never answers whether they were just regular Trolls or actual gigantic breed of Orcs.
Yep, I didn't care for it. He started altering the story after the first movie, way too much. Making Faramir break his promise to Frodo, turning Denethor into a frothing at the mouth insane idiot, the weird floating ghost people rolling through Orcs like a tide... it was just unnecessary.
Interesting, I do not remember that Trolls in Mordor were immune ot the sunlight, I thought simply the land was covered in perpetual gloom. But yes, Uruk-Hai are Human-Orc hybrids. There are also Half-Orcs - possibly those where the mother was Human - who can pass for Humans. The ugly guy whom Aragorn spotted in Bree spying on them, was possibly one such person, as were the servants of Saruman in the Shire.
@@SwiftNimblefoot You are absolutely correct - altering the events and even the characters isn't too bad in itself - just as long as you don't change their "essence". Luckily Jackson was sparse with it, but he did start early, things just got worse and worse as the story progressed. My huge personal peeve, that a lot of people tend to miss, is Jackson making Aragorn leave the Hobbits by themselves to be attacked on the Weathertop... - the real Aragorn just wouldn't do it, nor did he in the books.

The “too many plots in a movie” thing isn’t a Beetlejuice thing. Most newer movies, genre ones in particular, suffer from being overstuffed with multiple plots. On the flip side, a lot of “prestige television” suffers from having too little plot. It’s obvious most of those shows started out as a two hour movie but stretched to 10 episodes. It’s as if movie producers and tv showrunners should switch places.
Regarding Numenor. The Downfall of Númenor was a divine punishment by Eru Ilúvatar to the Númenóreans for breaking the Ban of the Valar. Ar-Pharazôn, the king of Númenor, was coerced by Sauron to assault the Undying Lands which ultimately led to the island's destruction and death of most of its people.
When the giant wave comes to destroy Numenor someone will look right at the camera. Then they will say in a quiet serious voice, " the sea is always right." Then they'll destroy it and that's the payoff for that stupid line from season one.

Regarding the Palantir's. A single palantír enabled its user to see places far off, or events in the past. A person could look into a palantír to communicate with anyone looking into another palantír. They could then see "visions of the things in the mind" of the person looking into the other stone. The stones were made of a dark crystal, indestructible by any normal means, except perhaps the fire of Orodruin. They ranged in size from a diameter of about a foot (30 cm) to much larger stones that could not be lifted by one person. The Stone of Osgiliath had power over other stones including the ability to eavesdrop. The minor stones required one to move around them, thereby changing the viewpoint of its vision, whereas the major stones could be turned on their axis.

George R. Martin could just write some outlines about how the story ends, let some successor finish it. Or do like Agatha Christie did - when she thought she was going to die as they were caught in the middle of the world war in Syria, she quickly wrote stories where she killed off both Poirot and Miss Marple. When she obviously, survived she put those two in a safe, and told her solicitor to release them to the publishers only upon her death.

FFS... the seven and the nine were made at the same time. The seven merely matched the number of Dwarven houses, since Sauron originally intended to snare the Elves (but that plan backfired when he made the One and the wearers of the three - which Sauron had no hand in making - became aware of him and his plan). Since the rings didn't dominate the Dwarves, Sauron turned to Men next. The writers not understanding the lore.

It's absolutely INSANE how STUPID rings of power looks. I mean, it looks like they went OUT OF their way to make the characters as DUMB and ridiculous looking as possible. It MUST be a satire of some kind. It's not possible that this is legit real.
Honestly, it looks like a 90's Soap Opera and even then I would take the self awareness of Passions and its witch, talking doll timmy, some angel girl who has an evil demon twin, over ROP any day.
Even filming on film would have given it more rugged and lived in look but no everything has to be shiny digital.
It's a money laundering operation and they're so out of touch they think that's cool.

Great show.
Yup. In the last 6 months alone I've rewatched most of Red Dwarf, Quantum Leap, the X Files, Jonathan Creek, and TNG. The 90's ruled.
Me to 56 here!
Hey I loved the fluorescent colors!

I started dating in the mid /late 90s.. even the “ho’s” type girls, you had to take to putt putt golf or something.
If Lady Gaga's scenes were cut, that's sad. Her performance in the trailers is actually really good.
They cannot stand direct sunlight for long, it drains their energy, makes them miserable, in the words of Uruk Hai who have seen the normal Orcs suffer under direct sunlight - "you weaklings look cooked!"
Btw, even the biggest fighting Orcs are still shorter than men and thus much shorter than elves.
Awesome panel. We need Disparu as well

Conan is one major franchise that hasn’t been subverted. And I’d love to see a proper Conan show. The Conan stories from Robert E Howard and the comics that came from his work are amazing.

The message is more important than the product. GenZ dont watch movies or tv. their entertainment is UA-cam and Video Games. They dont care about cultural relevance because their hobbies are personalized. They like UA-camrs coz it is a personalized form of entertianment, video games are personalized experience, they do interact on-line but that experience is more like advance NPC interaction, they dont even know what other players look like most of the time, the limited face to face interaction changed GenZ perception. They get into old movies or shows coz their parents liked them or youtuners or their games referrence them.
