Hi crossfader, would not be easy just to use a USB to record your mixes? And a camera or phone for video? Not sure if I am missing something . Thank you!
I think one of the advantages of using an external recorder you guys missed. It's that you can also record the crowd and if you make a video or even a mix set bring in the crowd cheers to flaunt your talent even more.
It’s 44 hours and 53 minutes not 44 minutes and 53 seconds that can be recorded via the WAV format - WAV (44.1khz, 16 bit) runs at 10.09MB per minute not 606MB 😂
Brilliant, my Behringer 700 is kicking the proverbial bucket after 15 years so I am looking for new ones and notice the outputs have changed a little bit so this vid was very helpful, cheers!
The most useful solution is direct recording via usb calble from the X1850 to the laptop and use the free software Audacity! Every channel including the rec out is recorded separately, and there are no losses because of double (D/A and then A/D) coding.
is there any difference in quality with the various recording techniques, i mostly do the traktor record one, any less quality as opposed to recording through the mixer itself?
Hi! Have you found the best options for recording with a tractor? I have a constantly low level of recording, I think how to improve: with the help of external sound card or recorder, what do you say?
Hi mate, I’m looking into video recording my vinyl dj sets at home. Just a couple of things I need to know really. 1 - What sort of camera do I need for video recording? I’m just looking basic. 2 - mostly important, How do I get the best sound quality from the mix? Would I need an output from my mixer, or I’ve got a Scarlet interface actually? Do I need to input the signal from the mixer to the video recording device? I could really do with some clarity on this please. Thanks Andy
Thanks for the thorough video, very informative! I probably will buy an external recorded like a Tascam or a Zoom soon, but it was very nice to see that my "new" (just got it used, will replace my Xone:22) home mixer DJM450 has some abilities, too. Great video.
Couldn’t figure out for the absolute longest how to record on Audacity with a Pioneer 900 Nexus 2 on a Mac. After watching countless videos on UA-cam and reading help forums online I finally found the answer. One small tip that was not mentioned on this video either; Under the Mixer Output tab on the settings utility, turn ALL channels to “Mix (Rec Out)”.
Thanks for this video! I was wondering, though: When recording a set from the mixer to Audacity on your pc/laptop, why is the external soundcard necessary? Why not simply connect the rec out from your mixer via an RCA/3.5 mm jack cable to the mic input on your pc? I'm just trying to figure out what the actual advantage of that external soundcard is in this setup.
The 3.5mm input on most laptop's is set up for Microphones rather than line level inputs. As such it runs a lot hotter and will distort when a line level device is connected like a mixer. Some laptops will allow you to change this, but not all, as such we can't recommend this method :)
@Crossfader If you had to choose between an Allen and Heath PX5 or a Pioneer DJM 750 mk2 mixer (purely for mixing purposes and forget about filters and effects) which mixer would you choose? I have 2x CDJ 850's and Pioneer DM 40 speakers and I'm stuck between the 2 mixers I just mentioned I mainly mix happy hardcore and drum n bass

@@nickh4989 i might be mistaken here but if its anything like my issue, am i right in saying that you mean, when you record in audacity, the recording picks up the sound in your headphones out on the mix yeah, if thats the case then after your mix has recorded you will see two input channels representing stereo, as i have a ddj 200 controller, this doesnt have its own soundcard and uses the laptops, so what i have to do in audacity is split the stereo by clicking the x on the bottom waveform therefore i am then left with a mono recording, but at least i cant hear the headphones, might be off track but i think thats what you mean.

I use Serato DJ Pro (a fairly outdated version, 2.5.12) with my Denon MCX8000. Although the output sound quality is very good-I use the M-Audio 46 as my speaker-the recorded sound quality is quite poor. I’ve set the maximum resolution for recordings (AIFF - 24 bit), setting the gain halfway to avoid distortion. I can't figure out if the recorded sound quality depends on my outdated PC or on Serato, because the audio card in the MCX, which should be used for recording, is quite good. Any help please?
Why don’t anyone ever mention VirtualDJ? Strange that it’s the most popular and downloaded software in the Workd for DJING but no one mentions it on videos like this.
Hey there! I have a quite old DJM-600 with no USB and only one master out (which I use for the main speakers). I also have a booth monitor output with RCA. Thank you so much for your explanation. I'm trying to record from Audacity but the sound goes only on one line instead of both as your video shows. I recorded a little mix and now the sound comes out only on one speaker .

Using the build in recording feature of Rekordbox is a big hassle. It always compresses my audio unevenly (high and mid more) any settings or level I'm playing. Does anyone experience this? I'm starting to think maybe it's related to the fact I'm using 320 mp3 and the output is wav and the realtime conversion causes this.

You can change the quality of your recording format on almost every option. However most streaming sites such as mixcloud and soundcloud will compress your mix upon upload so sometimes it's not worth the added file size to record this way.

@@jdmz096 I'm sure one will be better than the other in some way if we looked close enough but it's not something I could 100% say without going back and testing for it. Using unbalanced connections and a phone for power isn't the best recipe for anyone chasing the ultimate in sound quality and I highly doubt there will be a noticeable difference in either device, especially when using 320kps MP3 files to DJ with. Both sound good enough in short, I'm sure you won't be disappointed with either!
Well I bought an external recorder (4CH, Stereo Mic) to try it out. The main advantage is that I can record my audience (with stereo mics), as well as my DJ set(in stereo). Later, in Ableton, I drag-drop and sync them up and mix/master them as I see fit. The crowd yelling and clapping bring your sets to life :)
Excellent video. My RANE MP2015 has RCA outs but also USB out and SPDIF, which output would best suit high quality recording (e.g 96khz, 24bit) & would you use an H4N Pro, Audacity or a DAW like Bitwig to record the output? Also, when using a DAW to record a live DJ Set should you have your buffer/block size set to low (eg 32 samples) or high (e.g 1024)? Cheers.
Great question! Personally I would use the USB connection to record your mix directly into a DAW for recording purposes. Using the USB will allow you to record a digital copy of your mix without using the DAC of the mixer and the ADC of a recorder, which will influence the sound of the recording. The buffer size won't matter too much as your only recording, not needing to have a low latency for performance reasons. Set this to what your computer can comfortably handle and then leave it. Hope this helps!
@@Crossfader hey thanks for reply, much appreciated! So, I could actually max out my Bitwig buffer size to 2048 and get rock solid processing because Im not using Rekordbox or Serato or anything, just the CDJ3000s and my mixer, all the processing is done before the digital signal gets to the DAW. Is there any benefit in terms of quality to maxing out the buffer, does the additional time my pc has to process the digital signal make a difference to the quality? When i look at the DSP Performance graph its jitter free with no peaks or anything so id assume thats a real positive and could minimise pops, artifacts etc?
Hey guys I have a question. I use a ddj 1000 with rekordbox and a MacBook Pro 2017. for some reason there’s sound coming out of my speakers and headphones. It would be nice to record in serato, but Im thinking about getting a Tape2 for the recording bit, so maybe I dont need the extra input on the serato-box?
great video very informative and knowledge on using Mics? Is there anyway to record with a microphone using digital usb decks? the ones that do have a Mic in don't record the audio input just send the signal out to the master. hey! can you tell me how to record a set with the simplest focusrite and windows computer? i've been trying everything you said but it doesn't work. I don't have an SL3 setting, only MME or Wasapi. i use cinch-big jack cabel... it records in shitty quality only on one channel... wtf... i tried everything
I've been having a problem with recording in Audacity using my Pioneer DJM S9. For whatever reason, it will only record when i have it set to 8 Channels, but I want it to record in Stereo (2channels). When I open the Settings Utilities, my outputs are set to ; 1/2: Phono. 3/4: Phono. 5/6: Mix (Rec Out) 7/8:FX Send.
I was having this same problem. I don't know how to explain this well because I'm not yet technically proficient but basically your mixer is a sound card with 8 channels. Since your 5/6 channels are set to "Mix (Rec Out)", you have to select these specific channels for recording. Unfortunately, Audacity does not support this (I don't know if it does in later versions). You could try to set up Serato so that it records on 1/2 but I don't know how to do that. If you're on Mac you can use Garageband: Create an audio track, select your mixer and select "Inputs 5 + 6" in the inputs drop down box.
My AUDACITY keeps crashing over and over and over again; its a hit or miss; sometimes it records sometimes it doesn't. Any way to fix it or make it work always?

how to record on virtual dj, or serato dj pro if you are mixing using beatport or soundcloud tracks ? you missed this point. pls guide
Hello, how can I recording my show in separate tracks for a mixtape for exemple?
so i usually just record from my dj software...are there advantages of using external recorders over the usual ones?
Well I bought an external recorder (4CH, Stereo Mic) to try it out. The main advantage is that I can record my audience (with stereo mics), as well as my DJ set(in stereo). Later, in Ableton, I drag-drop and sync them up and mix/master them as I see fit. The crowd yelling and clapping bring your sets to life :)
@@SweetAssasination thanks! really considering getting one.
Everything works just like it’s supposed to. But in the recording panel it catches no sound. Like all my recordings are just quiet and the sound bar doesn’t show anything there either. Thanks for any help ✌🏻.
So for now Im analog with vinyl, have Technics sh dj1200 mixer and 1210s decks. However Im keen on getting into DVS and being able to record sets is just a plus! So I need a serato-box thats either gonna be a used SL3 like shown here or a Denon DS1. Which will be better? Denon doesnt have the aux input, like SL3, but the mixer has rec out... It would be nice to record in serato, but Im thinking about getting a Tape2 for the recording bit, so maybe I dont need the extra input on the serato-box?
highly appreciate to you brother
Anytime :)
great video very informative and knowledge on using Mics? Is there anyway to record with a microphone using digital usb decks? the ones that do have a Mic in don't record the audio input just send the signal out to the master. Serato Rekordbox anyone? a usb input into pc wont record into this software can audacity access e.g serato's mixing? thanks
Hi I was thinking of buying a Olympus ls-p4 but I see it only has mic out and not line out will I still get a good recording or should I get something with a line out like tascam dr 40x Thanks ps I don’t want to record to my iPhone

Could i use the zoom h8 to record my sets?!
Any way to add time stamps while recording? On Club Equipment and Controllers? I know it’s possible on the XDJ-R3 but not sure about the other two
Would a session out jack do the job as well?
hey, thanks for the vid. Can I use an Evermix box with my DDJ-400 and Djay pro 2 (alogoriddim)? (Djay pro 2 won't let me record Spotify tracks) thanks
I have this same problem, did you ever find a solution?
Model of tascam recorder? Dr-40x?
I have a Pioneer XDJ-RX2. I also have Rekordbox on my laptop. Can I record a live mix from my XDJ-RX2 onto my laptop via USB (Rekordbox)?
yes you could but why would you bother as the RX series already have a dedicated REC USB feature built in that records excellent sound quality no need for mastering?
hello. im using pioneer ddj sb2 controller. i can rec on serato but when i move mix to pc to play, it just shows the time but no audio unless im playing it on serato . i just really want to rec my mix and share it on a few platforms. any help much appreciation!
hi how can i record my mixes on ddj 200 pioneer ? cant record on rekord box anymore any cheap solutions to this issue?
hey! can you tell me how to record a set with the simplest focusrite and windows computer? i've been trying everything you said but it doesn't work.
I'm trying to record from Djay Pro from Algoriddim into rekordbox but can't hear any output as I'm DJing - is there an easy fix for this?
Hi does the ever ever mix box work with the djm400 pioneer 2 channel mixer ??? Thank you
I am trying to record my set on virtual dj, but all the songs are DRM. Is there anything I can do?
My AUDACITY keeps crashing over and over and over again; its a hit or miss; sometimes it records sometimes it doesn't. Any way to fix it or make it work always?
What cable are you using on x1800 usb to ?

I use my internal soundcard on my mixer to record in traktor, have everything set up correctly and can record mixes but they're recording low volume even when the recorder gain is turned all the way up. Seriously considering the evermix
Probably set to Rec out not Master out.
I’ve had a completely nightmare with the Evermix box and it worked for like 3 weeks and then started playing this awful crunching scratching sound. And now I can’t record my sets , I took the advice and re downloaded the app re booted my phone updated my phone ect and it still doesn’t work and all they can say is because it’s a app error and it’s my iphone??

Thanks Crossfader. I have an X1850 and connected via USB. Audacity picked up the mixer, but every time I press record, no sound comes through the software, its just a flat line. Can you help or point me in the right direction?
Enable Broadcast mode in the mixer :)
