I love my LS2. Very comfortable and convenient. Added bonus is that it allows me to don and remove while wearing glasses. I've owned several different makes/styles of helmets over the years and this is the best I've found for me.
Thanks for the video. 😃👍 Re. the Scorpion Exotic carbon, you said it probably works best for those on tour bikes, scooters etc. and then you said ' it's probably not the helmet for you if you are going long distances'. Isn't that what you do when you go touring? Could you please explain why you think it may not be suitable for touring, as I really like the idea of a carbon helmet where the chin bar goes to the back of the helmet. I don't know why all the manufacturers don't do that, as there would be less wind resistance whilst riding and they also look much better. Maybe Shoei and Schuberth might come up with one!
Choosing helmets can be quite a dilemma, head size (fit), noise reduction, earphone compatibility etc etc. Best bet is to ask around, try them on at a reputable outlet and make your own mind up. Personally especially with modular style helmets it’s all of the above all rolled up into as close as you can get that will (if it does it’s job right) keep you alive in a crash situation where your head meets the road after the rubber has left it. What suits one person will not be suited to the next. Personally I ended up with a Nolan style modular where 5 months ago I high sided at around 65km/ph landing directly on my head, the helmet did its job hence I went back to another Nolan. But definitely try before you buy, trust me your life literally depends on it.
I have a Neotec 2 and love it. The snug neck fitting keeps me warm in winter. The ratchet chin strap is quick to fit, it's metal not plastic so is not a weak point like other brands. It is a bit on the heavy side so it would be nice if Shoei branched into carbon helmets. I had a Schuberth previously and although a great helmet it's rounder shape allowed excessive wind noise in.
The chin strap has never been a weak point, metal clasp or otherwise, Shoei's chin strap is a bit too short, the weak point in a modular helmet is the hinge and latch mechanism, they are all less safe than a proper FF helmet, they are good for touring and commuting though, motorcycling is risky anyway, you make your choice and take your chances.
Missing my fave. It’s the Hjc Rhpa 90s carbon in the Ballion edition. So quite, can take it on and off while wearing glasses. Light as a feather, 1530g in a large. I hope HJC can do a carbon version of the new Rhpa 91. I personally refuse to buy a 4lb lid after experiencing the 3.3 lb 90s carbon. I know there is the new ece spec, I hope that’s not the end of light helmets.
Long Oval shell/head shapes ? Weight for a Large and XL ? Return privilege ? Snell 2020 approvals possible (or still not done the way the Arai 3/4 helmet obtained approval) ?
Just purchased a new HJC i100 and it’s as good if not better than the Shark evo3, and the Valiant LS2. It meets all the standards you mentioned, sad you didn’t include that one in your review.
Listen up Shoei, you need to make a new Neotec with an adjustable peak, carbon construction, a slightly enlarged eye port and integration for Sena and Cardo. The new Shuberth E2 will be my next lid.
I'm new to your shop and channel and I like your style - refreshing! I appreciate this thorough roundup and I look forward to checking out your other reviews.
I have a Shark Evo one 2 helmet (Grey) that I love, I even got a second one (Red) with no communication system. They look so much like the LS2 Advant. I find them warm in summer, but so much better with the front going all the wayi back. I have donne 3 Iron Butt rides with it and I am really impressed.
I love the neotec 2 but it definitely needs an update. I got mine in 2020. I think my favorite thing about it though, is the factory smell it has. I don't what it is about it but I find the smell very comforting. It's not all fake plastic smelling. Whatever treatment the fabric inside has on it smells great to me.
Threw a 'like' to you because of detailed description of features. What is missing, for me, is 'head shape' information. I have worn Shoei since venting was two 'dots' on my forehead. For now I ride with a Shoei Air GT and would like to update my kit. Does a Scorpion fit the same head shape as the LS2... as an example. I know I can buy a Neotech that will fit. What are my other options given my 'Shoei' head shape.
I have the Schuberth C5. It's super quiet and light weight. My only complaint is I had to file down the two nubs on the visor a little bit to get it to shut all the way.
I owned the Shuberth C5 and though i like the way it fit MY head.. i have a big issue with visor.. think for price it's weak.. I like to ride with my visor up if I have glasses and the Visor will just fly shut at high speeds (about 75 - 80 MPH) - I also Got the cardo and replaced the built in speakers and Mic. But it is confortable... for me.
Agree with you concerning the only 2 shell sizes on the Schuberth. Purchased the C4 small and even with the thinnest cheek pads it was to tight, now own the C5 large with the thickest pads and its to big. Wished they offered the C5 without the communications system which would lower the price and since I already had a Cardo. Also you can't intergrade the the 2 systems in the helmet. They call it a quiet helmet which I always find subjective, to me it's still to loud on a naked bike and I do wear ear plugs.
Great review thanks. I have a 2018 Neotec 2. Have the Pinlock fasteners been pushed back since the launch of this helmet making a wider vision available do you know please? cheers.
Good video but I have a question everyone forgets about. With the use of the speed release chin strap, do any of the helmets have a “D” ring to attach to a motorcycle helmet lock?
Adding my 2 cents to all comments :) Each head is specific and one helmet some may find perfect may not fit others. I really like HJC however their modular don't fit me: either too small or too large. Shoei are great but my glasses can't stay at the right place. Arai works perfectly though but for touring I don't like the fact they don't want to have a sun visor (I understand their logic about security though). I only use mine on track. AGV sportmodular disappointed me a lot and I'm trying to get rid of mine. I prefer my E1. Noise: I now always wear ear plugs but anyway I never found a quiet helmet Weight: as long as the helmet is well balanced I personally don't think it matters and I don't pay attention to it My advice: try a few helmets before buying one. It needs to be comfy, you must like it and it needs to have the options you want. Talking about options I find annoying that the manufacturers are trying to force us with their comm solution. I have a pair of cardo bold and I'm sticking to them. Especially now that cardo is offering a mounting kit allowing to equip all my helmets with it
Once you try modular you’ll never go back. I’ve got a cheap $200+ Sedici modular with BT etc and it’s perfect. Great to cruise in the city or beach with it open - then higher speeds to close. Folks you don’t need to spend $1,000 for a nice modular.
i have the neotec 2 , and i need another helmet! previous helmets , arai corsairs, arai quantums , kabuto modular, all helmets fit great , normal round oval size med . but this helmet hurts my forehead after about an hour. not happy.
May i respectfully point out that you do not have a Nexx helmet represented. I have personally discovered it to be far better than my Neotec, my AGV carbon and also my Schuberth. My Carbon version is my favorite as it is super light with, blocks noise and looks the business.
