Although, music is personal preference, I get that---I can't express how much I love those two albums. Jake's albums are my favorite. But I do like many of Zakk's songs equally. fuck all those bad critics here. People have no clue. The thing about Jake is, that he had his own style, it was very unique compared to other shrtedders back then. also he didnt need a whammy bar!!! that's the point. I don't think you're approaching it the right way. Jake in his prime shared the same skill and guitar playing sensibilities as Van Halen and in their prime they could have shredded as good as nearly any current guitarist in the current styles--if that is what they had chosen to do. The best technically proficient players that I've seen are guys like Paul Gilbert or that Swedish player Malmsteen, or Steve Vai, or some no name nobodys, or a virtuoso classical guitarist like John Williams. But who gives a shit if they are unable to create great original music?! Defeats the whole purpose doesn't it? Therefore, people like Jimmy Page, Neil Schon, Steve Clark, David Gilmour, The Edge, Jake E. Lee, V. Halen, etc. are the greatest guitarists. IMO Technical proficiency should ONLY be considered against musical creativity for a more balanced assessment of what makes an instrumentalist great. Most people don't want to do this though because the musicians we like the best is subjective, it comes down to personal tastes and preferences and everybody believes that their needs to be a 'definitive' list. There are plenty of people throughout time that could perform Mozart's works better than Mozart---but who would you consider to be the greater virtuoso? Another technical guy is somebody like Buckethead; and for the record I can at least enjoy some of his music.
Does anyone have any idea what the hell that was in the beginning!!!?? Since I was a kid that has baffled me..What an amazing, talented guy. Bruce Lee's guitar counterpart!!!! Jake E. Lee!!!
Jake.. I will never forget your Style, and TONE!! 20 years later, and this clip still RULES...OZZY should have know that you were the Only for his Ultimate SINS!!!! Phal
Say what you want about Jake E. Lee, his guitar playing was unique and unforgettable. He admitted soloing wasn't his strength. His work with Ozzy and Badlands will always be different from the Eddies and Yngwies of the world. Now, if I only I could find my Jake E. Lee concert t-shirt.
The man is gold. Check out Badlands live back in the day to see what Jake was like with his own band. I saw him in Badlands going on a solo for such a long time. The more he played, the better the solo got, until after awhile you're just watching him shaking your head because you can't believe what you are seeing. He is not a typical rock guitarist and never has been, and he is the sweetest guy imaginable. Just saying.
Jake e lee got screwed by Sharon & Ozzy. He's a hell of a guitar player. He made the music, together with Bob Daisley for the entire Bark at the moon album & The Ultimate Sin album.
Mr. Jake E. Lee on the guitar !! What show's man-ship & stage show Jake give's plus this it just a kick-ass guitar solo !!! CSC/09 in Lynchburg V.A. !!
I'm not even sure if Ozzy truly understood just how good Jake was. It seemed like he had this vibe that Jake could be replaced real easy with anyone. I read that Jake E Lee was in a country and Western band along with a funk group early on. His playing shows some diversity other then lick stretching and sheer speed skills like Sykes. I really admire Sykes and think he's a monster player but I love Jakes tone and approach. I think Zakk Wylde is my least favorite of Ozzys first 3, mostley because he leaned on those crazy pinch harmonics/vibrato shakes.
His taste in music was going in a different direction and Ozzy didn't like it. He wanted everything new to sound like what they had produced so far he wanted another 'Crazy Train" so to speak. He would tell Jake to stop it...when he ventured into new territory..prob more bluesy stuff..like Badlands (this was from an interview with Jake E Lee
Yes, you are absolutely correct...He wasn't..the musicians were what made him big..The band members were mostly the ones who wrote the lyrics (especially Bob Daisley wrote a lot of them and Ozzy would pitch in here and there) He just sang, for the most part. but yes, I totally agree with you. After Jake left I lost interest in the band, disillusioned I guess...
+paych GeRonimo I agree. I don't think Ozzy truly appreciated Jake. Ozzy was prob. so out of it on so many drugs et al. Jake was a God send after Randy. What tough shoes to fill. Jake did quite well :)
YogaArmy He did great..When he joined the band after Randy, all of my R&R peers were just blown away at his talent and worshiped him as a one of the GREATS..Guitar players wanted to be him, play like him, you know? Amazing talent! He was huge in the 80's/90's . We were happy to see him come back
i read somewhere he used to do it cos jake e lee always reminded him of rhoads when you used to play amazing solos and ozzy used to get upset and switch cos he was upset... hes an incredible guitarist, so under rated
Thank God oz found Jake. The last thing he needed was a Randy clone. Don't get me wrong, I love Randy Rhoads, but a clone of him would have sank ozzys career In an age that was heavily dependent on tremelo bars, along comes Jake, an insanely imaginative player. Zakk Wylde is a beast, but Jake is a GOD
madbradwilson Yeah I don’t get it! I like both Randy and Zakk but Jake was much more creative than them. I can’t understand how people are so blind to that fact.
@@nein4893 Zakk's work on No Rest For The Wicked was and is still fucking awesome, but. He's no where near the caliber of player that Jake is, that's just the facts.
jake e lee was defanitely ozzy's most underrated guitar player. every guitarist he's played with has been nothing short of amazing but jake never really got the recognition that he deserves.
What is with Ozzy Shoving Jake, knocking him over and his continuous onslaught of ripping Jake's hair out of his Mellon ? Ozzy yanks and cranks on Jake's hair in other Live video's too ! Jake was an awesome guitarist and wasn't given enough credibility for his skills and talent. If my vocalist yanked my hair hair like that, my guitar would have been rammed completely up their starfish !
I think I saw a video where Ozzy smacked Zakk in the mouth while he was soloing. Does anyone understand why Ozzy had success? If I could buy an Ozzy Greatest Hits album with his vocals removed I would... because its all about the guitar to me- not that wretched whiny voice.
StratMatt777 honestly I think ozzy is trying to prove to the audience their skills, he abuses them to show that they can always play excellently no matter the situation they are in
I hate when people say that ive studied ozzys music like homework since i started walking and nobody comes fucking close to the technicality and soul of RR
Gud Dergo Randy never ever did tapped harmonics or any of the fancy tricks like what Jake was doing... love the dude but his solos are so much easier. Randy used standard modes, usually Phrygian, mixed in with harmonic minor and diminished scale but I don’t see how that makes his playing more complex than Jake’s.. Jake knows his shit just as well. Jake played Randy’s material effortlessly all while having impeccable stage performance. Randy looked like a dweeb on stage in comparison.
For the people raging on the solo sound, its all for show, get over it, hes a great guitarist, but here he is putting on a show, so it's entertainment>skill in this case.
haha thats cuz all these chumps dont understand how to make money in this day and age. They think talent is everything, perfect example of how wrong they are...Justin Beiber or w.e, he was at once a "cute lil boy" as some wud put it, but look at how many people have been there, aaron carter is another example. Their shit sucks but they make the money bcuz of their abilities to entertain, some might find them not entertaining like myself, but that doesnt mean they aren't paying the bills.
I love that purple Charvel. I just bought a white body black pick guard 2007 Charvel that's almost identical to Jakes. I've wanted one like that since I saw the Bark at the Moon video way back in the day. The eighties rocked!
That solo is still amazing after all these years. I could just watch it over and over. I saw this tour live and this was the about the only guitar solo that really blew me away and stuck with me. When the home video came out I tried learning all the parts to it and had most of them down except the tapped harmonics. He’s just awesome!!
3:29 I would have stopped playing, threw the guitar down and slapped the absolute SHIT out of Ozzy right there and walked off. No $ lost, he was already being cheated out of most of it by Ozzy's wife.
Jake and I had the same guitar teacher in Chula Vista. His band was 'Teaser', my band was 'Sorcerers Apprentice'. He replaced Randy Rhoads in 'Ozzy' after he died, I replaced Randy California in 'Spirit' after he died. Jake and I were arch competitors back in the day, and I never told him that he was the best I ever saw. I'm not dead yet, gotta new project called 'SLINGER & The SHOW of FORCE' at this channel. Hey Jake, if you read this ? ..... It's time to come back, and serve the pretenders.
Oh Yeah..Brings back memories...The Ultimate Sin tour. Jake E is so original too, check out his chord fingering when he breaks into the melodic piece before Ozzy starts to kick him around.Too bad they did not get along that well. Jake E. Lee the Pentatonic Madman. Mr. Lee.....You made Charvel 'San Dimas' what they are today!!!Thanks Phal
Jake E. Lee = The most underrated guitar player in Rock n' Roll history.

I saw this tour at the Long Beach arena in '84 Ratt opened up great times!
Mr.
+paych GeRonimo It still blows my mind. I wouldhave never let him go. Maybe Ozzy was in love with him, I mean Sharon
We were happy to see him come back
Jake E. Lee :) :) :) :) ROCK ON!!!!!!!!!!
whoooaa! \m/ :))
Have a great weekend :) Glad to see you back :) ROCK ON!!!!!
MrMegaFredZeppelin You too Fred! And... ROCK ON!! :))
Always loved Jake E Lee...
Rock n'Roll Rebel. Still one of the best rock tunes ever.
Maybe if Zakk spits a few more times into the air he will sound like this some day.
かっこいい。
You are the best. Always will be . Thanks for sharing your gift.
i read somewhere he used to do it cos jake e lee always reminded him of rhoads when you used to play amazing solos and ozzy used to get upset and switch cos he was upset... hes an incredible guitarist, so under rated
Thank God oz found Jake. The last thing he needed was a Randy clone. Don't get me wrong, I love Randy Rhoads, but a clone of him would have sank ozzys career
In an age that was heavily dependent on tremelo bars, along comes Jake, an insanely imaginative player. Zakk Wylde is a beast, but Jake is a GOD
There is more creativity in this solo than all of Randy and Zakk's careers.
madbradwilson Yeah I don’t get it! I like both Randy and Zakk but Jake was much more creative than them. I can’t understand how people are so blind to that fact.
Still playing those same guitars 20 years later. Amazing
Still have this whole concert on vhs and no vcr lol....thanks for posting
I wish Jake had lasted with Ozzy at least two more records. Zack is alright, but Jake was something special.
I agree. Also, Zack always seems to be trying way too hard to look metal.
yes way way way way underrated. Zak yeah rite lol Jake e Lee is the man OK!!!
Yeah maybe but Zakk wylde is a waaaaaaay better Player :D That solo was Just noise
Zakk playing is sloppy, has no style, no meaning. Jake makes every note appear out of his hands count and that's why he's the better player.
you are too high on potatoes dude, zakk wylde is good in a world of his own but is not as great as Jake !
Insane, man!
Zakk was bigger than Jake so Ozzy wouldn't yank his hair LOL
Jake was very talented, albums like Ultimate Sin and Bark at the moon are still pretty challenging to any guitar player
StratMatt777 honestly I think ozzy is trying to prove to the audience their skills, he abuses them to show that they can always play excellently no matter the situation they are in
Anonymous Please Probably all the coke he’s on
Damn, what's the statute of limitations on assault?
Ha!! I keep listening over and over to .50, and it’s like every time, goosebumps all over! This is crazy!! Every frickin time!! Try it!!
My fave ozzy guitarist😍🥇then Randy ..
He smoked Randy!
In some areas, perhaps.
Sean Truscott
Get off the drugs Sean
Bullshit , Rhoads played cleaner and faster more intricate and complex scales.
At fucking last someone said it
haha thats cuz all these chumps dont understand how to make money in this day and age. They think talent is everything, perfect example of how wrong they are...Justin Beiber or w.e, he was at once a "cute lil boy" as some wud put it, but look at how many people have been there, aaron carter is another example. Their shit sucks but they make the money bcuz of their abilities to entertain, some might find them not entertaining like myself, but that doesnt mean they aren't paying the bills.
yes I agree he had to do this flashy part to put on a good show Randy had to do the same thing
thats all it is, good show, good time. they wouldnt be famous if they couldnt shred
I don’t understand? What were people complaining about?
His biggest mistake was letting her be in charge.
It's part of the madness...it's like a wild orgy is happening there and they're feeling it
Jake and I had the same guitar teacher in Chula Vista. Hey Jake, if you read this ? ..... It's time to come back, and serve the pretenders.
ozzy should be pretty damn grateful for the amazing talent hes had command over over the years! i said over twice....
Absolutely great stuff here and a time I feel so fortunate to be a part of as musician because we will never see it again.
excellent video!!!!
Mr. Lee.....You made Charvel 'San Dimas' what they are today!!!Thanks Phal
this is the concert that got me interested in playing guitar!!! i have this on a old VHS that my cousin left at my house about 15 years ago!!!
Jake and randy forever the best!!❤
i wish shows nowadays could be this kickass
I am 47 years old I have 26 kids and I still listen to Black Sabbath
One of my favorite solos ever!
This was the first VHS I ever bought.
Jake wrote almost all of the material on his 2 albums with Oz, alot of great songs. Plus he's a staggering player
Jake E. Lee a badass guitarists he did an incredible job on Ozzy's two albums Bark At The Moon and The Ultimate Sin.
just plain awesome!
Great Guitarist!!! Excellent Sound!!!
