I agree wholeheartedly with you. Melodic guitar with excellent songwriting. And, of the troupe of guitarists that Ozzy has had, Jake most closely reproduced live the esoteric compositions of Rhoads without imposing too much of himself into it. Later guitarists were less honest (or capable ?) of that.
This video showcases his soloing but he was an incredibly clean and precise rhythm player as well, and his writing is phenomenal. He's so good it is ridiculous. Remember also he doesn't use a whammy bar either so whatever sounds he is creating he is doing it without a whammy.
So So true! Rhythm playing is soooo overlooked regarding the 80s players. He is an incredible rhythm player. There are tons of 80s shredders who are average Rhythm players....EVH was great...DeMartini is a great rhythm player as well. And he has to get credit for not using a Tremolo....his left hand vibrato is insane. He used to say when players get stuck...not sure where to go...GRAB THE BAR....it would bail them out. He thought it was lazy....he could make all the same sounds with out the bar.

And those divebomb effects are done by both pushing on the headstock so hard as to bow the neck, and by detuning several steps flat with the machine head/tuning back to pitch on the fly (which is NOT easy to get so perfect every time as Lee does). Insane technique.

I met Jake when he was with Badlands. Stayed after the show and talked to him for a bit and helped them load their equipment into the van. Good times and an autograph to boot 🎉
I saw Jake (and Tommy Aldridge ) on the Bark at the Moon Tour. He was at the top of his game. He is my favorite Ozzy guitarist AND one of my all time favorites ! I would love to see him one last time !!~

I couldn't agree with you more! After seeing Jake play with Ozzy at the US Festival, I was hooked. He's been my favorite guitarist. Got to finally meet him in Toronto in 2019 with RDC. He was very down to earth. Long live Jake E. Lee 🔥🤘

Randy was a more important guitarist in musical history. He helped advance guitar playing just like Eddie did. Most rock guitar was blues based and Randy really made a more classical base mainstream and it changed guitar playing from that point forward. BUT, Jake E Lee is a much better guitarist.

Carpal Tunnel is recoverable...you just need the surgery...it took me about 2 months to fully get my playing ability back but the numbness and pain is gone... :)
One of the greatest guitar performance I ever saw, he played at Jani Lane's club in Orlando and not Badlands. Don't remember who was singing but Jake went John Wick and killed everyone in the place, it was staggering.

100% agree! Jake is my all time favorite guitarist and Ozzy guitarist. I love Randy and cut my teeth on many of his tunes, but Jake to me technically was a cut above. To this day, I still have a hard time playing Jake's stuff. He was crazy clever and crazy good. The Ultimate Sin is my favorite Ozzy record, and I sure wish it would get a remaster. I think that was Jake's finest work, along with the 3 albums in Badlands, and his solo album Fine Pink Mist. World class stuff.

What has made Jake unique and outstanding is that he plays not only technically but also basically. I mean he has mixed the taste of 1980s and that of late 1960s - early 1970s. He sounds thrilling and stable. A thrill and stability are something opposite, but he's got them at the same time. That's why I think we've never gotten tired of his playing for 40 years since Bark at the Moon.

Rhoads will always be #1. His writing was plain composition level due to his study of theory & background in classic compositions. BUT, Jake will always be respectfully #2. No arguing these facts as still to this day Ozzy's set list is pretty much Sabbath, Rhoads, & Jake.

Jake was the total package! Every single aspect of his playing, his look and how he owned the stage was unbeatable!! What an utter legend!
What has made Jake unique and outstanding is that he plays not only technically but also basically. I mean he has mixed the taste of 1980s and that of late 1960s - early 1970s. He sounds thrilling and stable. A thrill and stability are something opposite, but he's got them at the same time. That's why I think we've never gotten tired of his playing for 40 years since Bark at the Moon.
Jake made me obsessed with pinch harmonic, extreme vibrato and finally saw him playing on this video cuts especially out of the box solo on paranoid makes me say woa

July 17 1986, I saw Metallica Master of puppets tour open for Ozzy Osbourne, the ultimate sin tour, at the Civic Center in Saginaw Michigan. What an awesome night, and memory from my youth!🤘🤘🤘

Rhoads will always be #1. His writing was plain composition level due to his study of theory & background in classic compositions. BUT, Jake will always be respectfully #2. No arguing these facts as still to this day Ozzy's set list is pretty much Sabbath, Rhoads, & Jake.
