Monkee-mania began in Los Angeles in 1965 when Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith, the late Peter Tork and the late Davy Jones were cast in the eponymous television series about a struggling rock band inspired by The Beatles’ A Hard Day’s Night. The quartet brought a singular mix of pop, rock, psychedelia, Broadway and country to their resulting music. By the time the series aired its final episode on March 25, 1968, The Monkees had sold 16 million albums and 7.5 million singles. Few could have predicted the impact The Monkees would have on music and pop culture at large, one that still reverberates more than 50 years later.

Peter recorded "Angels We Have Heard on High" for the Xmas CD. It was the last song he ever recorded. I will not be able to listen to it without crying my eyes out. :(

Love the Christmas Party album!! Got the CD last year (the Target version with 2 extra songs) and now have all 4 versions of the LP... red and white "candy cane" version, the red vinyl, the green vinyl and the standard black vinyl. Love me some Monkees!!!
You actually were shipped the vinyl? I'm still waiting on mine and I ordered it back in August.
@@ryansetzer694 Yeah, I ordered the candy cane vinyl the day it went up for pre-orders at the Monkees site and got it the week it was released. I've seen that some people are still waiting on theirs, but I haven't seen a reason for the delay.
@@jjlloyd8017 Yeah it's ridiculous. I ordered it the same day too. I'm in Canada but it's not that much further than the US.

House of Broken Gingerbread is a phenomenal song, specifically written for this album by novelist Michael Chabon (Wonder Boys).

It came out on CD last year and vinyl this year. Stick with physical media, downloads largely suck!

i think i've listened to the cd only once cause i bought after x-mas and i prefer jamming to it around the right season rather than in July, i'm hoping they do another studio album as i don't want this to be their last album

I did have an opportunity to meet not only Peter Tork, but also Micky Dolenz and Davy Jones several years ago at a local autograph signing and it was pretty cool!

Peter and the other guys were really nice, but the one thing I remember about Peter is that he actually stood on top of the table where he was signing autographs and told everyone they would have a chance to get an autograph, then jumped back down and everyone got a big laugh out of it.
@@jeffthewhiff what year was this? Peter was so adorable in his 40s. I heard he was very shy and humble. I can tell he was a good ♥ person. I think he was very talented, however I would have rather met Peter Tork the Man over Peter Tork the performer. I think that is where the real gem lay's.
@@robinromine8158 When I met the three Monkees was in the late 1990's and they were going to perform at a concert later that evening. Yes, it is a shame that a lot of people didn't think the Monkees were very talented because they did not always play their own instruments early on in their existence. As you know, Peter and Mike were considered to be the "true" musicians in the band, but they were all talented performers, for sure. I didn't get to talk to the three Monkees too much because their were so many people lined-up outside, but did get to shake their hands, which was really cool!
I read an Amazon review last year that said "buy it at Target for the extra songs." SO GREAT because it had the added "Riu Chiu," and I was already a Fountains of Wayne fan since day 1--win win.

Ordered this back in August and still have yet to receive it. Nice that you're promoting it. Now are orders actually going to be shipped before Christmas? Ridiculous.
As a lifelong Monkees fan I have to say that was incredibly disappointing. Sorry guys, I love you but..no, this one's not for me.
I'm a Beatles fan and I thought THEY were flogging a dead horse with all their re-issues and stuff....but this wins hands down.
It's okay if it's not for you. As Christmas albums go, this is really good. Most Christmas albums are not very exciting & rarely offer anything new. But "The Monkees: Christmas Party" is quite engaging & certainly not boring in the least. It might be a bit of a let down for some fans that The Monkees swan song album is a Christmas album, but it's actually so far out of left field to even do this album, it's actually a fitting end to The Monkees studio album catalog.
