Nailed it with the change in your thinking from 'god or the devil was responsible' to "I am responsible for my actions and consequences". Was the biggest and healthiest psychological change for for me.
There is a being who knows all my thoughts and dreams, all my shining moments and shameful selfishness, who judges all of my actions and to whom I am answerable regardless of success or failure. *That being is me.*
🤣Sam is still recovering from his burns. His comment at the end where he says "it's a miracle," is something along the lines of "it's a miracle. I've fucked up this song in some of the best venues. Thankyou for being here to witness me not fuck up this song." I strongly recommend listening to some of Tim's interviews and podcasts.
I mean ultimately it doesn't matter since Sam doesn't exist. This song was more about Tim's use of the English language than anything else which he has stated himself.
None of us care about what others believe. What we take exception to is when they try to make laws based on their beliefs that affect the rest of us. If they’d just mind their own business we’d all be fine with it lol
I always consider that all the different religions cannot be right. So I will reconsider my views once they sort themselves out and come to a consensus. 🤣
I really loved your reaction. That’s how I felt when I first heard it. Seemed to go in and on. This is an awesome rabbit hole to go down. My other favourites are Dark Side (awesome piano solo), Prejudice and Lullaby to start with.
Caption should read "particular problems that aren't particularly tough". I'm glad to find your channel via this video. Looks great and I look forward to seeing more.
You should hear his Dark Side "Awesome version", Understand it, Prejudice, You grew on me, Rock and Roll Nerd, Not Perfect, Lullaby, Play it Safe (for the Sydney Opera House), Good Book, F sharp, and the Pope Song (w/Sydney Orchestra from the same concert as this video.) So many things to choose from. He's a genuinely good guy who tries to take a different approach to life than most.
16:45 "Particular problems that aren't particularly tough". The captions are very iffy throughout, I'm guessing they're auto-generated? I don't like using the word "genius" _too_ freely, but Tim's way with words is truly masterful, and he's absolutely _brilliant_ at making you _think_ you know what's coming before pulling the rug right out from under you. 😜 From what you said, it sounds like you haven't heard Prejudice yet; I definitely think that's one you'll get a kick out of... 😉
When the captions come up one word at a time, they’re usually auto-generated. Someone putting the captions in could make them come up that way, but it’s probably a lot more work. So they’ll generally do an entire line at a time, frequently with musical notes at either end. Also, he mentioned only reacting to one Tim Minchin song before, and my search only brought up this and Storm. So I second your suggestion that he react to Prejudice, hoping he hasn’t already heard it.
You should react to some of his serious songs too: Carry you, Airplane, Play it safe (for the Sidney Opera House 50th anniversary, brilliant song and MV)...
I think you may be the first reactor ive seen that has correctly stated that love is not a tangible entity but a concept, you seem like you'd be a cool dude to have decent conversations with. Keep up the good work
He’s a genius. He does not like the power and corruption that often goes hand in hand with religious organisations. He wrote the music for Mathilda the musical and Groundhog Day. Lullaby is my favourite.
when he said its a miracle at the end its because this is the second time he has performed this song and the first time was not very grand and was for a small audience. so he was saying its a miracle that he didnt stuff it up, its a very complicated song with complicated lyrics to perform
If Sam was a real person I would agree with you that its petty, sadly he is not and neither is Storm. Now the song for Phil Doust is different, that one is 100 per cent petty.
Definitely check out "darkside" (awesome version), "lullaby", "the good book" and "10 foot c**k and a few hundred virgins", Tim is such a brilliant performer and I hope to see many more Tim minchin songs on this channel, keep up the good work.
Love your reaction. Tim is so brilliant! If you’re looking for suggestions I’d love to see some reactions to the songs from Wander Over Yonder. They are awesome!
A particular prayer in a particular church in a particular style with a particular stuff and for particular problems that aren't particularly tough and for particular people, preferably white, and for particular senses, preferably sight. A particular prayer in a particular spot to a particular version of a particular god.
And if you really want Tim's view on organised religion listen to the pope song. For his writing check out Storm his 9 minute beat poem, live not the animated version.
If you have only seen this and "Storm" you MUST SEE "Prejudice" and pretty much anything else...... "The Pope Song", "Darkside" etc!!! Instead of "for particular problems and I'm particularly Tough" your right about it being miss captioned... he actually said "for particular problems that aren't particularly tough" meaning compared to world peace or end of suffering one particular cataract is not that hard to fix.... It makes a lot more sense when its said that way rather than him suddenly saying he is particularly tough!!
You should watch "the pope song" if you think this one is shocking, it is shocking but also very right, Tim has doctorates in both worlds and music, he is extremely talanted, he has amazing funny comedy songs but he has also written songs and music for musicals. Also look at one called "come home Cardinal Pell", it's about an Australian priest who covered up for cathlic phidophlies then moved them on to other victims, tried to cover it up then claimed to be to sick to come back to Australia for a government inquire into it all, he hid in the Vatican and they protect him.
A better example of this: You dont know your partner has cheated, unless you get evidence/proof. Up to that point, you have faith in the belief they are Faithful. If you dont, you become controlling, unfaithful or callous. The argument for Love, in this context, is those who believe someone loves them but they're actually just being used. They obviously get enough evidence that theyre supposedly loved, in some form that pleases them. I am not religious.
Proof and evidence are not them same thing. Being loved and loving others do serve as evidence for the existence of love given that its a name given to an action and the emotional response following said action. Proof is reserved for mathematical demonstration of something being an absolute fact. To which I don't hold when it comes to the experiential factors of life. But rather than telling me what isn't proof why don't you tell me what is proof of love?
Isn't it interesting that when people stop listening to the teaching of religion most people are calmer, clearer and able to live a better more balanced life.
If you need any example of why religion is bad just cast your eyes towards the Middle East which is where most of the Bible/Koran takes place and is and has been a basket case for centuries even though they both worship the same God just through different prophets. If that is the promised land, count me out.
Check out all Tim Minchin reactions 😊 :

Too bad Sam's burns don't fit under "ocular degeneration" 😢
It'll be a true miracle if Sam ever recovers from these burns.

This is my favourite Tim song... just brilliant! Loved your reaction!
He is not only hilarious he a such a talented musician 😂
The head bobble with that big tickled grin 😂 fucking magic ahhahahaha
Honestly it`s one of his greatest songs!
Caption should read "particular problems that aren't particularly tough". I'm glad to find your channel via this video. Looks great and I look forward to seeing more.
I was reading through the comments to make sure someone said this
Another song of his in a similar vein is The Good Book.
Loved your reaction to one of my favourite songs. Check out the Pope Song!! ❤
I don't believe I ever heard this one yet. Fantastic! Tim is such a brilliant writer and musician. Oh, and your review was PARTICULARLY great, too! 😂😊
What a great way to finish the week, a reaction to my fav Tim Minchin song, from an intelligent reactor with a beautiful accent 😍
☺️‼️
I love that song! It’s great every time. But the first time when you have no idea where he is going with it is extra special.

Thank you for supporting Qofy’s channel ☺️‼️
At the end he cries "it's a miracle!" because that was the first time he'd made it through the song without fluffing it.
As "your mom" jokes go, that one's a particularly elaborate one.
Confirmation Bias: the musical 😂
16:35 or so "for particular problems that aren't particularly tough."
He also has a beat poem called Storm, which is hilarious x
He referenced in the video that he has watched it. I think he's already made a video on it
