    If your hognose regurgitates then you need to wait 2 weeks because it just spit up all its stomach acid and created wounds that need time to heal

    To add another reason your hognose may not eat, and that's when they are shedding. Feed them after shedding, as some may not eat during the shedding process.

    I run a rescue, and we just took in a bunch of reptiles that were left in an apartment hallway. One of which was a baby western hognose. He's overall pretty healthy, but we are having some issues getting him to eat. Going to try the sardine juice later today, see if that will work.

    I have a picky boy. I leave the pinkie over night if he just won’t take, it’s usually gone in the morning. I think he just likes eating under the cover of darkness lol

    My hog hasn’t eaten in 3 weeks it shed three days ago. We left the pinky in with it out of desperation.

    I don't do the separate enclosure for feeding my king, when I first got him it was trial and error and tried tongs but I'm too worried he'll lose or crack a fang so I use my hand (bad idea #1) and because I got too worried about hurting him I ended up feeding him by holding him in my hand and lowering him to the pinky (bad idea #2). Hasn't struck me in the tank or at all but a king snake will get to be a fair size and I feel like it might turn out bad for my thumb or worse for my scale baby. But I feed him two pinkies now and the second one (this part fascinates me) he eats goes like this. I wait until he has the whole first pinkie down and he starts to move around and notices me with my big ass head peering into his tank and then he turns his head up, stares at me, and waits. I then hold out the thawed pinkie and he starts to sort of stalk it then I drop it onto his basking rock(natural not heated, found it at work) and he stalks it beautifully as though in the wild but instead of mashing it like he does when I hold him, he gently takes it and starts getting it down. There fangs are at the back of there mouth so as long as you let go when they start eating and it will be fine😊

    Might be a stupid question but I just got a baby hognose and her first meal is coming up and I know I will have to cut up a pinky can I refreeze the other half or do I throw it away?

    • @HogginOut
      @HogginOut  2 роки тому +1

      I personally do not refreeze. You can though only once, but only if it hasn’t been sitting long.

    One if mine always tries to start from the side of the mouse. Realizes it won't fit then tries the opposite side. Eventually he finds the back or front.

    Will a mouse pinky still be safe to feed a super tiny hognose? Been told is a baby and is my first small one.

      @@HogginOut okay cool so I just got my baby on Sunday he was last fed last Thursday. I put him in a Tupperware container with the live pinkie and he hissed at it. His breeder said he usually fed him the frozen ones but said that giving him live would be okay. Should I just leave him there and let him do his thing?

    • @HogginOut
      @HogginOut  Рік тому +1

      @@destinyneumann9800 Ya, give him a solid 30 mins in the tuppeware.. If they are established on FT pinky (holy grail of food), I would stick with that, but live can't hurt.

    My hognose Is not eating atm. I got him from a young guy and he said he didn't eat the last time he tried to feed him which was the day before I got him. I got him 3 days ago. He's a juvenile
