One thing that might be pertinent to new Hog Nose owners is the way they handle. Hogs aren't constrictors and won't really wrap around things (including you) to hold on, so you have to be more supportive and I would suggest holding them above something soft just in case they fall.

I run a rescue in Virginia, and we just got a baby albino western hognose in yesterday. Someone left his entire reptile collection in the hallway of his apartment building and moved away. Luckily, the neighbors called us. This was all pretty helpful, we don't normally get these guys in, much less a baby. He's generally in good health, but no clue when he ate last, and was in a critter keeper with millipedes :/

My daughter and I both got new hognose snakes today and I’m in love! We’ve had ball pythons and other reptiles but these little guys are something else lol. One of them is very huffy, cobra hooding and bluff striking and the other is super chill. They are both set up in the little quarantine totes and I can’t wait to move them over into their upgraded enclosures. How long do you recommend before they move over? I’m seeing two weeks + as a common answer or until they’ve eaten a few times without issue.
    Thanks Elle!

Excellent video! I’ve had my hognose George for a little over 2 years now and about the first month was nerve racking. He was sooooo tiny and finicky about eating. Well, he still is finicky sometimes. His first 3-4 meals was half a pinky. And his attitude has always been awful 😂 It really didn’t take him long to start coming to me though. He’s so curious about everything even when he’s being huffy, hissy, strikey. Once he’s in my hand he calms down but he sure likes to put on a show up to that point. Funny little critters they are. 😅

I would recommend waiting 2-3 meals with no problems before starting handling. You just kinda play that one out though. If they are enthusiastic eaters then they will probably be fine. I'd just keep handling short and don't handle on feeding day until you get used to how they are. One of mine doesn't care she loves to eat! My male is pickier so I still don't handle him on feeding day. My two new babies I'm still trying to figure it out!😊

Do you have/ will you ever get a boa? Seeing you with a boa will inspire others and help their reputation. I got a juvie female Colombian bci for my first ever reptile and she has the strongest feeding response ever, I’m in her enclosure everyday, handle her at least once a week even in shed. They calm down after a few minutes then you can handle them for a hour or so. The bites also aren’t as bad as people think I got bit in the wrist while removing the lid to feed her and it healed in a week. Tags bleed but it’s not fair bc they have such big teeth compared to other snakes and their tendency to bite when threatened is something you can use to make them really calm down and forgive you and trust you. Very sweet snakes.

My girl Freddy is pretty cranky compared to my male. She will strike me if I pick her up, so I'm just doing it a few times a week and gradually becoming braver. I didn't handle her much at all for the first couple months, so she's probably just having to relearn human interaction. They can be pretty intimidating! How can you not flinch? I've started picking her up with the hook and placing her in my hand. At the same time, it's cute and funny. My male seems to be much more docile and turns into a lump when I pick him up. Hello I just wanted to ask something about my bearded dragon.
She is a 2 month old dragon and I’ve been having problems keeping the humidity in the tank even under 40. The lowest I’ve got it to was 35, and I watched your video about how to keep/lower the humidity and I’m gonna try some of those things out tomorrow. I can keep it under 50 at day most of the time I took out the water bowl to help I use a mesh top on it but it’s been hard to keep it still under 50 humidity. I also leave me windows open all day as to keep it aired out.
