I am looking forward to the part when they state the cost for making makeup. I worked in this field in the past and I know the cost of affordable makeup. Lots of companies produce the makeup in China and the production cost is ridiculous. The markup is shocking. I know jeffree makes his makeup in the US and in Italy so the costs will be different but it will still be interesting to hear them talk about numbers.
How did you feel after watching part 2? Did it compare to what you expected?
@@bribellamy1451 what jeffree said is completely true. I know the cost of palettes made in China. They mentioned Kylie's palette costing 3 dollars to make and her palette is very small. The usual palettes with 20 shades that you can buy in boots cost maybe 5 or less to make and are sold for 25-30. Some brands are more 'honest' than others. Jeffree spends 20 to make a palette and sells it for 50 and the markup is not as high as other brands.
my conspiracy is that james was 100% the one who cut ties with jeffree but jeffree will say it was the other way around. because after DG2 james made snap /insta stories apologizing for the merch being down and backing it up with he “just doesn’t feel comfortable working with someone like his last company who screwed him over” I.E mr Starr. lmao.

@@owlofathena1247 well in the ending of the second part of the series there's a shot of him working out which I interpreted as him trying to get in a better form for -guess what- his general health and happiness. I did not body shame him by stating he is above average weight in proportion to his height. Opposite to that I only wished he did whatever he judges best in order ,not to get a "model's" body, but a great psychology that allows him not to make self depreciation jokes about his weight. So you can save your "some people prefer skinny than happy" passive aggressive,fake body positivity, condescending little speech for someone who actually implied that ok

My fiancee and I watched it together, me being a fan and avid follower of both Jeffree and Shane, and my partner having no idea really about either of them...
It was interesting getting our different takes on the episode, he responded better to Jeffree than to shane which surprised me. But he said it was because of Shane's constant self deprecation and he felt he was needy and constantly requiring validation.
I think it really does help the episode to know the whole backstory about Shane's channel and how he got to where he is today.

Unpopular opinion: I would love it if Shane uploaded shorter videos more frequently, I know he puts in a lot of effort and time in these series but I just liked it better before

I have a drama-related question:
Did everyone just forget about when Jeffree took Tati's side in shaming James Charles and calling him a predator without proof? Like they all made videos saying they would be settling it privately, but Jeffree had already made horrifyingly vicious comments and accusations by that point towards someone 15 years younger than him, so really don't understand how he went back to being loved and idolised..

I think maybe you need to follow closer and watch more videos about the dramaggedon 2.0. No one was innocent during that incident, and everyone had blame. When we're heated we all say things we really dont want to, but these are people on the limelight, nothing they do can be erased. We all grow and learn by making mistakes, Shane and Jeffree are good friends and I think this series will show how dirty and awful this whole "influencer" world is. My opinion

Let’s be real, Shane won’t discover anything. He’ll get information Jeffree allows to be seen. Jeffree has a brand to maintain and will reveal only what he wishes. My issue with these documentaries is Shane is naive and nothing new is brought to life. It’s simply a way for the subject to alter the narrative in the way they want. I’m just tired of Shane saying it will be an honest look at the beauty community. It won’t be. I also am tired of Shane’s same deprecating humor. I’m nitpicking I know I’m just annoyed that people act like his series are some amazing production when imo they are basic AF

Maybe I'm wrong but I feel like everyone is totally missing the point of the series. Case in point the prom queen song: it 100% reflects what the series is about and the first episode confirmed that for me. From what I can see it seems like the series is about Shane entering into the beauty community to yes uncover it but more importantly how its bringing up a lot of his insecurities by the nature of the community itself. It's about him feeling like he doesn't fit in, doesn't feel comfortable in his own skin, his perception of what people think of him when they see him. He feels like he could never fit into a community like the beauty community "that's not me, i'll never be prom queen".
also we saw that theme again when he talks about other youtubers and jeffree being on the forbes list and how he's never been good at the business side and obviously that makes him feel a little insecure or embarassing: again "that's not me, i'll never be prom queen". I think anyone who has struggled with self-imagine and criticism (but self-directed and from others) can relate to this. I think this series is about Shane uncovering what its like to be those people who you feel you can't live up to but also him finding his place and regaining some self-worth/esteem.
Finally somebody who sees what i see. They think everything will be about drama, they are ignoring that wasn't the premise that Shane started the series with in the first place. I think it's called the 'beautiful' world of Jeffree Star because he's entering this beauty world through him. And for me the beautiful in the title seems more sarcastic than most seem to pick up on, especially cause it flashes from, scary and creepy before settling on beautiful

Ahhh... The beauty "community" it's such a community isn't it. The answer is a no in my eyes as I see far too much backstabbing and using others with bigger influences before dropping them when they don't benefit them anymore. Am willing to change my mind though in the lack of community matter.
In summary...
Do I have to problems with the beauty community? Yes
Do i get annoyed by the constant drama? Yes
Do I watch it still? Hell yes and will continue as it's interesting.

@@Firegirl483 Kanakalala🌺 In all honesty that's part of the problem with the whole beauty community/collective of those who create videos of the beauty genre. There are so many more people in the beauty community (I will call it that because I don't know what to call it otherwise) than the few that get all of the attention due to their influence but my mind is honestly a bit warped due to all of this.

@@haggisa thanks. I am genuinely thankful for the recommendations. I personally do like to support smaller creators by giving them my viewing attention when possible but it's not the easiest to find them sometimes.

You’re very welcome. 😊 Both of those ladies i mentioned are very eloquent, thoughtful and levelheaded, i love listening to them talk. I find, that once you start watching or subscribe to a bunch of smaller youtubers, your recommendations start showing more and more of similiar channels, so the search for them becomes easier.
P.S. Also, I forgot to mention As Told By Kenya. She does a lot of commentary on big beauty youtubers and she has no chill. 😊

Balckface was already seen as not socially acceptable in the 1960s. He would have had to be living in a cave in Syberia not to know how offensive it is. Excusing doing blackface with lack of knowledge holds as much water as excusing using the n word with „I didn’t know it was wrong.” I’m sure Shane has grown since he’d done it, but such weak excuses are simply ridiculous.

Idk but.. Shane's documentaries always seems so scripted, even though he puts a disclaimer that they're not. But every time Shane brings something up, it ends up happening in the next scene. Like, he was talking about how being with Jeffree was like being with a mob boss, and the very next second Jeffree texts him to come up and Jeffree and his assistants are just sitting at a table waiting for him, "welcoming" him into the family. And it was just... Weird to me idk lol like i get that they might arrange things like that, but how dramatic his series' are it makes it seem like it fluffed up for entertainment. Love Shane and Jeffree tho lol.

I agree with everything you said, the series is about Shane finding himself and his confidence through exploring the beauty world with Jeffree and I think that is why they used the song prom queen in the trailer. Personally I loved the first episode and my only critique for it is that Shane should have put subtitles when he was mumbling because there were times where he was hard to understand.

My favorite character was the body guard. You can tell he really does he job well, but underneath the map of the mall, and the mean face and the pen- is a real person.

Honestly speaking, I was a teeny bit disappointed because the trailer indicated a lot of drama but the episode was had a very chill vibe. I get that it was just the first one and basically the intro, but I feel like he should have addressed at least a little bit of the drama and ended the episode with a cliff hanger. I really liked the way the contrast between their lifestyles was shown and the shane-ness of it all but I feel a little more insight on the drama or even Shane's new makeup would've kept the audience hooked.
Edit (more like a rephrasing)- by drama, I meant the drama in the makeup industry, the 'behind the scenes' that is generally not shown to the public, and the complications of it all (which was what I understood to be the topic of the series) and a brief idea of what he wanted his palette to be like.
I am also speaking from a Writer's point of view, so everything I said applies to the way the 'story' is shown here. It would have been better if there had been a solid piece of interaction/info for the audience to cling onto and it would've given them a basic idea of the series.
I mean they did touch on some of the drama and it's also was ment to be about the process of making his pallet with jefree the drama just happened to fall right there and then. I am sure the drama will be sprinkled in but I think so many people want it to be focused on and put high expectations and get disappointed when it's not there.

your take is so positive and sincere. so refreshing. i have some differences of opinion, but I'm definitely on the same wavelength in terms of enjoying the shooting and execution of the series. it was so engaging from a pov perspective, as you said.
in terms of where i differ: i appreciate the "fluff" domestic moments of shane at home and the dynamic with ryland because shane seems more comfortable and ryland and andrew are both natural on camera.
the constant juxtaposition with jeffree is sometimes offputting. its never ending anxiety and insecurity about money, appearance, crowds, drama, travel. a non-stop existential crisis, if you will. shane used to have a certain edginess and charisma in collabs (or faked it really well), and it all goes out the window with jeffree. I miss that side of him. the vulnerability is real. i get it. but man it is overkill in response to the beauty community. makes me wonder why shane wanted to step into that world at all when he could make money in any endeavor.
that said, i am looking forward to the behind the scenes in the beauty process. merch, manufacturing, design. will be interesting. hoping to see Shane's confidence grow as well. but i think I'll most enjoy the glimpses into his life that play in the backdrop like his engagement, moving, dealing with youtube politics, etc.

For instance, ''That's not me, I'll never be prom queen" shows us how Shane thinks that maybe he's not as "important" or "cool" as Jeffrey or all of these other really rich and successful youtubers. I thought the episode was short and left me wanting a lot more but it was definitely necessary to set the tone for the whole series
When Shane showed the clips from videos talking about his weight, it broke my heart. I knew that those videos existed but always hoped that Shane didn’t know or ignored them, but it’s still so great to know that overall Shane is so much happier (just wish he didn’t have to deal with such BS online)
The song choice for the trailer was quite good. It captures Shane's trepidation & lack of confidence on his entry to the beauty community or Jeffree's "Beautiful World."
I'd like to see what happened with JC's Sisters merch... His seems to be the only brand that was removed from J⭐'s distribution.
I thought the trailer was a really good representation of what's to come. So many events that we know happened and seeing them play our from their point of view was just so interesting. I think instead of a montage it was actually thoughtfully placed clips of events throughout their life the past year. I'm excited to see more!

I actually just found you a few days ago when SmokeyGlow suggested we watch your Tana recap instead of the series. So here I am, some serious binge time later, a new fan! I enjoy your humor and think you present thoughts very intelligently and responsibly. I can't thank you enough for so perfectly expressing exactly how I have felt for SO LONG about romanticizing mental illness. So well said!!! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this exciting series
Rewatching this episode really makes me feel that Shane and Andrew have so much potential they could pull out if they got a third party to control the story and focus of their series. Shane is an extremely charismatic host and Andrew knows how to work with him and add his touch, their editing really works well at some moments. I just wish someone was there to moderate :/
I’ve been watching Shane since like 2007, I kinda fell off UA-cam entirely for a bit but when I returned in like 2017 I was so happy to see Shane still making content. He genuinely just seems like the sweetest man and I only want good things for him. I’ve never bought a Jeffree Star pallet before but I will absolutely buy a Shane Dawson collaboration pallet.
I was at a baseball game last night so I couldn't watch it. So I appreciate the synopsis. Also, Onision is the main one saying stuff about Shane's weight.

I'm so disappointed. I thought you were going to give an objective critique. Everyone is talking about how they cant wait to hear what "really went on" behind the drama of Tati/James/Jeffrey. I dont get it. If Shane really does delve into that it will be Jeffree's side and maybe Tati's side. That's all. That is not investigative reporting. And both Jeffrey and Tati made comments about James that were proven wrong. Are we all forgetting that? This would just be giving Jeffrey a mouthpiece to give his side of it and most likely come out looking good, since that's how all Shane's docuseries on youtubers are handled. (Tana, Jake, Jeffrey, Eugenia). He never really holds anyone accountable for what they do but rather mentions it and then ends it by showing us why we should feel bad for them therefore canceling out their wrong doing. Eugenia bad talked her friends that tried to stage an intervention to try to get her help and Shane never even looked into that to find out that her friends really tried to help but Eugenia's mother stopped the intervention by saying she was going to call the cops on them. Her mother was an enabler the whole time and she still lives off of Eugenia. The situation is not good but Shane made it look like everything is great. I have enjoyed parts of Shane's series but they're not perfect and unbiased. And in his conspiracy theory series he very negligently talked about lasers from space possibly starting the California wildfires when scientists and activists are trying to bring awareness to the fact that climate change is what is causing these terrible wildfires to get worse and worse. I found it despicable that Shane added to the "fake news" agenda by misinforming his young impressionable audience about something that is so important to their future. And the fact that so many are salivating at the possibility that "dramageddon" is going to be reopened is sad. I thought we all realized that this crap is not healthy for anyone.
Girl you gotta check out Matt Patt's series on The truth about Jake Paul. This is exactly what he has called out Shane for in a very respectful manner. And it makes so much sense. So much sense.
@@sonali21bisht thanks, I will. Sounds interesting. I dont watch Matt Patt's channel. I really enjoy Luke's commentary most of the time and I think he's really smart but this one confused me.

Yeah, I was a bit surprised when Luke didn’t mention the fact, that Jeffrey made multiple, very serious accusations about James Charles; calling him a “danger to society”, telling him he should be locked up for a long time, accusing him of molesting someone, while they slept etc. I don’t know much about Jeffrey Star, since I only follow the drama from time to time and only with one eye, but he really does seem like a horrible, mean human being, who even stoops as low as bullying teenagers on Twitter and calling black women „rats.” Which is why it boggles my mind a little bit why Shane decided to make yet another “docu-series” (and no, they aren’t real documentaries, since documentaries require the creator to at least attempt being objective) about a person like that.
Is it all about getting the clicks and money? Shane has such a massive platform...if he really wanted to use it for good, he could have started making videos on/or about smaller youtubers in beauty community or another community altogether. Jeffrey Star, Jake Paul or Tana Mongeou don’t need the exposure, they already have more than enough of it. Why keep pushing the people, who are already famous and rich on us? It’s like he’s going out of his way to promote the most cringey and offensive people he can find. It’s all a bit sad, really.

Literally everything you said I thought to a T! I loved the episode! I think it’s going to be a promising series. I do think there was a little too much footage of Shane and Ryland in the beginning like with the golf cart scene but that was minor. The entire video was such a perfect blend of comedy and drama.
