Love how he started the video with “please don’t cancel me”

Honestly cancel culture should be about holding people accountable not destroying there career!
That's how people make them accountable by putting their career on the line so they take shit serious.
@seriousmonkey bizniss You are quite ignorant if you believe it is just young people. Have you seen what happened to Gilette? SMH. Also the people can be judge and jury on issues that aren't against the law. There is something called SOCIAL JUSTICE for a reason.
If you have the freedom to say and do and wear things that others deem offensive then you can’t expect others to not be angry and take it out. It’s not like it ever works anyway so I don’t feel bad for people.
I agreee with this comment & the first reply.
@@npitzer THIS
I saw this comment I don't remember where, but they were talking about Shanes pallets and how the mini pallet called controversy was a smart move, because now when you search up Shane Dawson controversy the pallet shows up not anything else
Unknown Human omg that’s so smart!
Abbey Williamson said something about that in a vid she uploaded today!
When you google it, the palette isn't what shows. It's still actual articles about his problems.
Ariana Grande did the same thing by naming one of her songs “Boyfriend”
The comment was wrong ): First thing that comes up is his Wikipedia and the second was the cat controversy. What a grand idea if it would have actually worked tho! Lol
Can we talk about how Luke can play the savvy rich villain in like anything

Damn that's the mood I need to have
With the Kevin Hart issue, he refused to apologize because he had done it multiple times in the past for those same tweets before. I totally get not wanting to rehash certain things.
Ashley Thompson I get that but how hard is it to apologise again, not everyone would have heard his previous apologies and he lost a great opportunity over his stubbornness but I do get how it would be annoying to constantly have stuff from his past coming up
i used to agree with this but then that clip came out of him being ignorant when talking about lil nas x’ sexuality. it seems like he’s genuinely uncomfortable with people being gay
@@LukeAlexander You're right. I feel cancel culture really exists to hold people accountable and to hope that they learn from the situation. The main reason why it doesn't work is because we have people (James Charles, for example) who are so egotistical and think they can get away with everything so they don't care, and have no remorse.
And we do contribute to it as we basically help them to get away with it.
@@PolkaDotInPurple oh I didn't know that. I wished people would actually own up to things instead of saying that just to get people to stop talking about their messed up past.
Man I've said some NASTY stuff when I was in middle school. I think EVERYONE could easily be "cancelled" over stuff they have typed or said when young and stupid. This is how we learn and grow. People who are criminals should be cancelled. I agree with ur point that not everyone should cancel someone just because everyone else doesnt want to support said "cancelled person"
yes criminals deserve to be canceled bc at that point it’s not something the internet can really deal with, but rather the criminal justice system bc they’re literal crimes.
i love when you talk about serious topics because you approach it so well you get the mix of comedic and serious perfect and stay pretty neutral and its just so refreshing and nice

For real! He didn't change, he's just hiding.

hi i like your videos ^^
I always feel bad for James cause it’s like grown adults came together to tear him down over allegations💀 no proof nothing just word of mouth
It was very strange to me that boys the same age as James Charles admitted that they approached James first, told him that they were Bi/bi curious, made out with him, and still claimed they were being coerced into homosexuality.
@seriousmonkey bizniss I said the same exact things on Jeffree's video saying he's done when all the drama happened months ago... Short story his stans attacked me.
Not only that, this hate that came from that situation still follows him. I feel those same people try to cancel James for every little thing he does or says.
Duff Duffer OMG YES I SWEAR DRAMA CHANNELS HAVE A HIT OUT ON HIM like every little thing they try to report💀
@@espifreak for the waiter thing james definitely kept telling the guy that he was gay no matter what he thought, long after the main interaction took place. so there is a little bit of james being very pushy, but no proof on anything else.

Cancel culture does not work the same problematic people still get the most views! 😔
That's because most people online do not give a shit.
Sara Salinas ignore culture would literally be ignoring the issue and they wouldn’t be held accountable. All your comments seem like you don’t believe people should be held accountable for doing things wrong and the people who call them out are just being “sensitive”.
blackSwan thank you. That person makes no sense 😂
blackSwan agreed, they’re an edge lord
this video might actually be the most unproblematic thing on the internet. seriously. you've absolutely gotten your point across i agree with really everything you said, i liked how you mentioned that cancel culture doesn't always work with the whole jacklyn hill(?) thing. i also think it's necessary to be reminded that whatever interaction you give is boosting them no matter the content. however that doesn't mean the consistent hate should be excused because like you said there is a person behind the screen. you've summed it all up! love your content, keep it up you're doing so well xx

Ok luke go off ig
"let it be, it's not worth your energy" needs to be on a hoodie right now
I love how you kept emphasising the fact that people can change.
The thing I hate the most about cancel culture is how unforgiving and obstinate people can be
"at the end of the day we vote with our dollar
and our clicks and our views
and we as a consumer deserve to know
where that is going to"
that sounds like Dr Seuss if he made a book on cancel culture
one of my least favorite things about cancel culture .. people act like they are endowed with some absolute moral authority.. you know its not like we are 'cancelling' the Montgomery bus system to protest Jim Crow, we're canceling individuals who have made, by and large, very human mistakes that are often not illegal. I'm not talking about JH and her nasty lipsticks, but rather cancelling an influencer for a lie. Theres never a dialogue, but rather a quasi-authoritarian silencing of any discourse, even if it isn't complete dissent or agreement. This is, in my opinion, a reflection of grander authoritarian leanings of the youth. It reminds me of SJWs on Tumblr, circle jerking their crude and under-researched arguments, and viciously attacking anyone who disagrees -- even minutely. Its a transmission of a sentiment to another place, another action, which ultimately must be addressed: intolerance.
For instance, with regard to the insensitive racial humor of SD, or KH's tweets, I think what many young people fail to realize (I'm closer to 30 than 20, so I'm a bit older than the main demographic which participates in cancel culture) is that what was acceptable at that time was different. Its called the Overton Window. Social justice efforts of the past 5 or so years have taught many white people that a lot of the things they do are indeed racist, and they have moved that Overton window. And that's the thing -- Shane most likely did not intend to be racist. But, because culture then was more explicitly racist, and racial sensitivity just wasn't a thing, Shane produced something he thought was funny and was also racist. Is it an excuse? Sorta, yeah. I said some insensitive things in my youth, and saying homophobic and racist things were common parlance for the youth in that era. But, I'm not a bigot. Young people of today are FAR more educated on these matters than the youth of 10 years ago. This walking around with a 2019 meter stick, measuring people's past actions, and then crucifying them misses an obvious positive -- that person isn't like that today, creating that today, saying those things today. They did that at a time when it was common.
This is a good point, I totally agree with you.
@@ChantelCarter-cc7cu if SD or anyone mentioned did blackface, I was not privy to that. I was referring to the videos he did of a 'ghetto' female character, which was a racist performance, but was not done in black face. And I don't recall if it was mentioned in this video, and I don't have the time to rewatch it
@@ChantelCarter-cc7cu never mind, that wasn't the central point of my comment. which was more an attempt to illuminate the authoritarian sentiments of cancel culture
You've literally become my favourite person, I don't really care that much about cancel or stan culture but when you talk about it I'm suddenly really invested 😅 but mostly I come here because of your personality, you're the best ☺💛

Has her UA-cam channel tanked? I also heard she might be getting sued or something.
I know it’s an unpopular opinion but I feel bad for her. I’m not a fan but having a parent facing serious charges is traumatic whether your a rich spoiled brat or not. Not saying they shouldn’t be accountable for their actions.
Nikki Longmire nahhh she knew what her parents were doing and even went along with it posing in pictures in rowing machines to act like she was on a rowing team to get the scholarship. Then after the media caught light and started reporting the situation she posted a pic with her middle finger up saying f us like we forced her to do these things and get caught on top of that

I have a distinct memory that Jeffree did say some problematic comments towards the POC community even after his apology. I don't hate him but I don't believe him.
wait what? fill me in
He called Jackie Anita a gorilla and the n word in 2018
I really didn’t want to do this because i know i’m going to be attacked but why should white people decide what is racist/ offensive to black people? The only reason why Jefree Star has millions of subscribers are because they are not black. Therefore not offended and have indifference towards this topic. If his majority of subscribers were black people, he wouldn’t of gotten away with it as easily. I don’t need people, with completely different experiences from me (as a Black-British person) to tell me whether or not i should be offended. Just as I suspected, even knowing Shane still profits off of caricatures portraying someone like me, in a disgusting light, people still give him the benefit of the doubt. If someone said remarks about LGBTQ community, they’d be cancelled without thought regardless of how the person has changed. The person you showed who got cancelled for what they did to their dog, more people care about dogs then racist comments/actions. Would people forgive them if they “changed”? Probably not. Actions like Jeffree Star’s and Shane perpetuatuate racism and makes their audience think it’s no big deal. Which is fine for non- black people but i’m not so lucky as i’m on the receiving end of this. I do respect your opinion though, and i’m just offering a different perspective. This is also just MY OPINION.
When it comes to J* it's not only about him being racist. Every woman and member and/or supporter of the LGBTQ+ community should boycott him imo. He doesn't seem to WANT to learn: www.reddit.com/r/BeautyGuruChatter/comments/bduvox/a_comprehensive_list_of_jeffree_stars_many/
A AA it’s the entitlement. A lot of white people who try to claim that it’s not offensive 1)can’t put themself in the situation to see why it would be offensive and/or 2) don’t want to sit there and listen to why we’re offended and just write us off as being sensitive.
There’s legal situations and moral situations
I think it goes both ways in most cases I think a white and black persons could see a white supremacist saying racist slurs and both be able to call out the obvious racism since it is so blatant but when it comes to more discrete possible racism I think it’s okay for everyone to have their own opinion. Since as soon as they see it no matter what color they are they will already have any opinions BUT that doesn’t mean ppl (any) should tell anyone especially the person the racism is targeted at that they should be offended and by not being they are part of the cause. I do also believe tho that you could have done a racist thing and not be an actual racist. It’s important to not throw it around since it is a big issue and over labeling ppl could make it seem like a total joke when a real racist comes around.
Fiona L. L. Girl...what?
13:14 I remember when I used to think 2019 was bad... We had no idea, so innocent...
Back when James Charles was “cancelled” my history teacher called our entire class out “so yesterday you guys loved james charles and now you all hate him. what does that say about how quickly you’re options change and how loyal you are to people you’re fans of”
"Living in 2019 is honestly so exhausting" I felt that.
i literally just refreshed my feed and this popped up lol the stars have aligned, ily :)
I think a big issue is what you mentioned about people just jumping on the bandwagon and cancelling people with no question. If you don't like someone I feel like you can just remove them from your life and "cancel" them in your eyes without making a huge scene or celebrating their failure. All the channels that stream people's subscriber count going down and celebrate that so much are really not making themselves look any better than a lot of the people they're cancelling. Even if the person has really done something worthy of being "cancelled", i just feel like taking pleasure in other people's misery is a really messed up thing and kind of a pathetic way to live.

Hey luke i just wanted to say thank u for speaking about ur less than ideal family situation in previous videos, I'm going through something similar and it cheered me up to see I'm not the only one, it takes a lot of bravery to speak up about that stuff so I just wanted to say I really thank you for it
I freaking loved that quick pauses&zoom-in LOL! I really enjoyed this video and so the chosen topic. It's so relevant and important. What's make this video great is that there are a lot of examples which shows that he's not biased! Thanks for the video!
take a shot every time he says “prerogative” and “cancel” 😂
i think the reason cancel culture is so prevalent is because we, millennials/generation z, have grown up seeing celebrities and politicians not getting held accountable. since we have social media now we’re able to do what we’ve wanted to do for so long.
i literally love your channel so much, so glad you spoke about this topic. i think more people should definitely be informed about canceling and how people go on things too quickly
Excellent video Luke!! I started mental health nursing in 2005 at 18 when social media was in its infancy, I have to say social media is not always negative it has its perks and value but on the other hand almost 15 years later it's pretty shocking to see the negative impact online shaming, trolling and harassment has had on young people. Painfully at times to the point of suicide. I held my breath when Tati made that video. This was a 37 year old woman self imploding over gummy bears to the point she incited mass hate towards a 19 year old and character assassinating accusations with no proof. To me that's a predator. I'm not a fan of either however I think there was a great learning curve in it. Thanks for highlighting these issues.
Sos I need you to do podcasts ASAP so I have more to listen to on my hour commute to work 💕

tbh I feel like you're wrong about the Kevin Hart thing. He did apologize for that multiple times...he showed he was sorry and did not make the mistake again. I don't believe he owes some organization to apologise yet again for something that should be left in the past. People should be able to move on from their mistakes and not have to go over them more times than necessary.
weird girl009 Kevin Hart is still fucking up I don’t really care but I have seen things that give those so called “cancellers” ammo like the Lil Nas X situation
Yeah, I was about to say, because I was SO sure Hart HAD apologized for the homophobic stuff he said in the past, which he did. MULTIPLE times, might I add. So... did that just get overlooked, or...?
mywatchdoesmath did you overlook my comment, apologies don’t mean much when you keep doing the same thing
@@Maddysublime Nope, I just didn't understand what you were initially trying to say and I was really only replying to OP, if I'm honest. I looked into the Lil Nas X situation, though and... well, I just thought 'Is that it?' Don't get me wrong, Hart comes off as extremely naive to think that being gay and growing up in the hood is a walk in the park, but other than that most articles and Twitter (unsuprisingly) blew a 2 minute exchange out of proportion. If anything I think his 'so what' comment that got everyone up in arms meant to ME, as 'Why should people care about that now?'
Plus Luke, made it seem he never apologized for what he said. I don't know if he meant when the Oscars told him to or not at all.
Dude you’re literally the best youtuber out there, your videos are so elaborate and well edited and you put a lot of effort in it, congrats

Thankful someone can speak in this in mature way. Your channel is phenomenal
Honestly haven’t seen a video outlining this so well until this❤️❤️
Kevin Hart apolozied many a time before. He was forced to do it AGAIN to be able to host. That’s blackmail. Cancel culture is ABSOLUTELY toxic. Calling people out and demanding them change is one thing. That’s healthy and should happen. But not letting people bounce back after they have righted their wrongs? That’s the problem right there. I don’t agree fully with your commentary - it’s a little immature for my taste I think. And to be fair, I mean just on some topics. On others, I seem to agree with you.
You’re adorable and I Stan your channel. Keep doing you babe! Don’t change once you get bigger!!

You are so intellectual and so informative about this and also so mature about your wording and I really can't say that anyone else could have said it better and I think everyone has their opinion but sometimes I feel like UA-cam is one big glass house and everybody has a million stones they have ready to throw and I really think people should go sit back and decide what the line is between cancel culture and bullying because opinions are not facts we have to remember that we are all human and not just words on computer screen thank you so much for this video is very eye-opening like I said you did an amazing job! Edit I was only halfway through the video when I commented this so it's really good to know that people think the same way that I do about people being humans with feelings and sometimes things can snowball and go overboard anyway everybody have a good day!

Jeffree Star keeps apologizing yet exhibiting the same racist behaviour. Jeffree still calls black women rats and monkeys. Those who know this and still support these two are off my list, because I won't support/fund those who support Jeffree Star because he hasn't changed. At all. As for Shane, yeah he's still racist. And I adore you so much but I will say someone who hasn't been on the receiving end of racism should have a say about racism and change of character.

@@stella74 he did it 3yrs ago and keeps tweeting/deleting it. It has nothing to do with when it happened but the fact that it keeps happening. He only apologises when he thinks his money will be affected. There is no real change and I will continue to talk about how he hasn't changed at all.
@@ingusch3783 he called Jackie Aina an irrelevant rat back in 2016 when she said she wouldn't be reviewing his stuff. He called Shayla a gorilla in 2014. Your soft T when saying "youtuber" shook my spanish-speaking ears. Oof, I loved it.
This needs a ten part series its so well done, I feel like you can extend the topic to cover real live criminal activities done by these influencors need to be highlighted. You can also show some of the lasting damages done by cancel culture on certain people. Lastly you could also shed light to the masses on the differences between ILLEGAL actions (criminal wrong doing with deserves cancelation) and IMMORAL actions (behaviors that may be perceived as wrong according to one's own beliefs and may result in the individual canceling them), correct me if I'm wrong on the above terms but I think it could bring some clarity on how different these immoral vs illegal cancels actually are.
Kinda late but you did a great job with this topic because it really opened my eyes and made me realise how toxic I was, especially during the Bye Sister drama. Really like your personality but seriously, you did a great job with the video. Thank you💙
