If you ever do another air ride check out shotgun shock. I had it on my 99 Softail and it was an amazing system. The thing that sold me was that if it ever failed it would be at full ride height. You would air the system to lower it. I could ride the thing slammed and still control the rebound.
You guys should try to get UA-camr Ken Kaplan Sr. (Kaplan America) from Kaplan Cycles and the New England Motorcycle Museum in Rockland CT, (w/Kristy), to meet up at the Deadbeat Retreat. That’d make for a really badass tag up. It’s not that far a trip for them either.
I ride a 48 year old bike. A lot of people talk crap on old shovelhead Especially AMF. Most of them , have never ridden or owned one, Someone that didn't know how to maintain their bike told him or they read it somewhere. A short list of things that haven't broke on my bike because it doesn't have it. Horn, Blinkers, ABS, GPS, Heated grips, Heated seat, cup holders, Cruise control, Windshield, Stereo amps or Speakers, cam chain, Injectors, ECU, Air ride. I carry a tool bag, And I know how to use it. 7/16-1/2-9/16 Crescent, Allen's Screwdriver, Spark plug socket, Extra set of points and condenser, Feeler gage, Flashlight, Bottle of lock tight. No roadside assist required. No depreciation of value. Sometimes being too poor for the new stuff works out.
Ya swapping out the not so great Harley parts for aftermarket sometimes is also a crap shoot. Hopefully the changing of sides with the air will solve the problem. Windshield looks good and will help on longer rides. The deadbeat ride should be fun even though it is not in NH,where I live, but I’ll be out west somewhere fighting fires. Maybe something will go on in the fall.
Got rid of my air ride years ago. After several similar problems. However, I am 6-1”. Not 5-3”. So I get why U’d want a system that gets the bike low enuf to get on and off and then changes to provide ride comfort.
Its your vid so I wont mention products but I got Armor in a Classic Marlon Brando Leather Jacket for $70 a few years back. For flaws - about four rides. 1- to knw the bike worlds, 3- to see how your add on works, 3- make adjustments - 4 end test - No air ride here, but thanks for the heads up on the fork oil -
@@VPCustoms Thanks - I have rebuilt mine ( non air) on a 1979 CB750. Last Fall. I rebuilt/restored most of a 1981 Custom CB 750 for my wife. Cosmetics are for this summer. It does have air in the front which I have not studied as a technology yet as the suspension is okay for now - .there are no air ride options and not sure if the oil would work or not if having to do a rebuild on the Custom. Lessons learned. I owned British Leyland Sports cars in the 70's. Previous owners had used brake fluid made in the USA that digested the rubber in the UK Brake systems. So one step at a time 'always'.
I was on a memorial ride several years ago and my forks blew, we did a quick "fix" to get me home but I ended up parking it at a local store and called for the truck to pick it up. Hubs got word and came to pick me up on his bike. Not fun, and a bit scary. Derby cover looks amazing. not a fan of the windshield look (on a road king / queen) but appreciate the purpose. Getting closer to pulling the trigger on American Suspension air ride for the RG, but I'm also placing bids on a few project bikes, so I might wait and put it on one of those, see how I like before putting it on my girl.
Watched the entire vid, and I found it difficult to focus after "Sooooo soft..." but I hung in there. Glad you got the derby cover you wanted, I know that was a search in itself - it looks cool. Your experience about shake-down runs isn't unusual. I find it usually takes about a year after a build (at least on my hotrods) to find all the gremlins 'cause there's always something. Glad to here your not selling the roadqueen! The bike and how she looks riding it is just bad ass. Not sure I am a big fan of the windshield, but I get it. It's too bad the tint isn't a little lighter. It might blend better imo. Thanks for the video! Keep them coming!

I went with the bat wing fairing on my 02 Road King. Fuckin horrible wind buffeting like someone is smashing my head with a mallet! Windshield at nose height and just a waste of time and money. That’s the downside of air ride. Always make the height a static height and you will never worry about losing air and dropping!
Sometimes it takes a full season of riding to do a complete shake down!! Great stuff!!!
Thank you!
man I've heard people using ATF for all sorts of shit. Even primary oil. Pretty versatile stuff

Yes! Front and back dumped!
