Hey folks, Bones here. Just wanted to answer a couple of the few big questions we usually get when people see the beginner bracket: 1) There's general guidance for who's allowed in the bracket in the challonge description. We do also look at everyone who's new each week and make judgement calls (e.g., a Sol player with 3k games but 1500 ELO might still be too good for the bracket) 2) The people you see who seem cracked out of their mind (Like Boxorocks in this video) have been playing and grinding in the beginner bracket starting out going 0-2 and getting here. But even folks who on paper are good players can struggle in bracket for a variety of reasons: nerves, matchup inexperience, etc. We tend to let folks who have played enter week over week rather than ban them so they can get that achievement of getting the ban, rather than capping them earlier because they made celestial one month. 3) Yes, what a beginner is is very fuzzy. But I'll say as someone who's done over 70 of these things that players improve FAST. There are folks that are Floor 3 warriors who have no idea what a combo is who 2 months later are playing out of their mind. There's a lot of context you can miss with people's growth if you just see their current cherry picked form, so don't let it discourage you. Hope that answers some of the usual q's. If you have others feel free to ask and I'll try my best to answer. Thanks gamers!
Are these cups NA specific? I would love to participate in these but considering a large part of the fgc community that runs tourneys is NA it seems like it'll be hard to play, would love to train in these
why the 1800 ELO cap on the tournament? Is this just an arbitrary number or is there more method to determining what elo differentiates good and great players?
@@tadhgwilson9268 The "Cutoff" is 1600, not 1800. ELO's not a perfect indicator of anything though, there's a lot of judgement call and human element to this. We review everyone new each week and make a call on whether or not we think it's appropriate. Things like total number of games and what floors they hang out in can also be a big consideration. It's not a robotic system, it's very intentionally flexible
The fuckin GIANT GRIN on my face seeing I was featured in a Sajam vid. Made my week, for sure. Gonna continue to enter the beginner bracket, it has been a ton of fun! All the GGs to Bonktacular and the other new players, I encourage you to learn and grow, and I hope I see you next week!
Love these beginner bracket watchalongs, it's super cool seeing all levels of players getting the spotlight on your channel rather than just the best players. It's also good for learning, getting to see some common habits and mistakes + your feedback, super helpful!
im in a weird middle groubd where my rating update is too high to play in the beginner bracket but i get stomped 0-2 in tns either way seeing all these players improve is really cool and really rad for the scene
Literally 1/4th of the bracket has to go 0-2. No shame in it buddy. You're doing better than me, sitting over here too nervous to enter at all. Keep on keepin' on.
I just got into strive the other day and I suck, but I've been doing the missions in dojo so I'm excited to improve. These matches have definitely motivated to keep going.
Its fascinating seeing the NA beginner scene as someone who's been in the EMEA beginner strive scene for a while, also since they ban top 3 rather than just top 1 I assume its significantly bigger since most beginner tournaments here just ban the winner, which I'm oh so close to reaching I can feel myself breaking through the wall.
another thing with test vs i no that i don't see a lot of testament players doing. if you find yourself getting tagged by HCL when doing fireball mid/full screen. charge your fireball. testament ducks down during the charge animation so they won't get hit by HCL. since HCL travels across the screen the animation matches the hitbox pretty well. so it'll be a 15-18 frame move from midscreen so it'll be way easier to react to vs up close where it's frame 11. another thing with HCL is that it's a level 2 projectile. so it'll destroy your fireball and hit you during the recovery of 236s. but if you can time/guess right, you can hit the strike hitbox of 236s/h and it'll still produce the projectile. because the strike hitbox for grave reaper is pretty big and will tag HCL (which will nullify it), even if you use 236s
Very cool watchalong i hope you do more of those because as a beginner getting some advice that are more simple and easy to access is perfect 👍🏾 at least for me it was very helpful thanks
that sol is going places if they start thinking a little, copying mocchi only gets you so far but the fundamentals are there. good awareness to know that rc down is the best option after 5h br
For suggestions for beginner cup analysis I may like to see something like instead of just analyzing just the most recent cup we could do maybe people request / you and or bones cherry pick certain matches or tournaments.
as a faust player, j. s into 5h is really ingrained for some reason as well and I have no idea why. very weird to see this habit with someone else despite is almost never working
I should see if I can try this some time. I got the game when it came out, and I got to like... Floor 7 I think. But I haven't played it in a while even though I've kept watching it.
I should enter a tournament like this strive is still new to Xbox and I'd love to accelerate improving by forcing myself to get into the stress of a tournament.
Hey uh...serious question, do y'all actually screen who enters for the beginner bracket? My buddy's round 1 opponent was a celestial Millia above the MMR cutoff, sitting around ~1750ish ELO
Who was the millia? We do screen everybody. Sometimes the people who slip through are old gamers who have been in the beginner bracket trying to get banned and can't quite do it. Like if you're referring to this bracket, clearly they didn't make it very far despite their rank
@@SolidBones The Millia player was WannabeAG. It is true that they didn't go particularly far, and I personally didn't think their play looked egregiously out of place, but the idea that the beginner bracket included celestial players seemed a little odd. I just felt bad cause my friend was pretty discouraged going into his match, seeing as it took two minutes to check his path of players on rating update, and he had said player game 1. This isn't meant as a criticism of the bracket, nor the TO's as we're all super appreciative events like this even exist, just was a clarifying question!
@@sylascole5254 nah its all good, I didn't read it that way. Yeah, wannabe has been grinding -- I understand the discouragement, but again, I think it's tough to see the grind and where they started and where they are now. Lots of people go 0-2 each week -- statistically a lot of them, heh. But you gotta start somewhere, right?
