I know right? Minecraft has literally been around for 15 years. Just because it’s a “kids game” (which it’s not) doesn’t mean it has to be a kids movie. I mean look at the Lego movie and Mario movie - sure, they’re based on properties “for kids”, but they’re also a great film for all ages - something this should have been as well, but instead it’s a colorful oversaturated jumanji-style comedy made for toddlers, which I think kind of sucks because minecraft was never intended be a kids game to begin with (have you heard those cave sounds?)
I disagree Sir I think it's unfair you're comparing the Minecraft movie to Sonic and Mario because Mario and Sonic have a storyline while Minecraft doesn't it's just a game that's it
Here are a couple ideas for a Minecraft film off the top of my head: - villager figures out how to use tools and learns to defend his village - Steve looses his brother Herobrine and deals with grief, meeting Alex and learning to love life once again (basically Gendy Tartakovsky's Primal) - Steve and Alex's village is zombified, and they have to seek out a witch to find a way to turn the zombies back into villagers with the help of the iron golem, at the end the witch is accepted back into the village - Steve finds a way to communicate with the endermen after putting a pumpkin on his head and learns of their enslavement by the enderdragon, embarking on a quest to free them - Steve creates the whither, but is overpowered, barely surviving and losing his whole base and has to train to defeat it
1. Similar to Diary of an 8-bit warrior, would work quite well too 2. Great but would probably not appeal to younger audiences 3. Seems a bit "small scale" (I'm imagining a Minecraft movie would want to involve more than a single village) 4. This one is pretty interesting 5. Minecraft story mode 2.0 All of these are better than whatever this movie has got going though. Like I cannot even tell the storyline other than "oh no we mysteriously are in minecraft and will now have to defeat these piglins to get back to our world!!" (very original)
Maybe some combination of all of your suggestions; Steve lost his brother herobrine and just wanders around. Eventually finding Alex (who wants to find this end portal she heard about once) and they kill the dragon because after going in the portal it is guarding the way out . Or an adaptation of The Island book (series), which I remember being pretty good when I last read them (around release)
**Clock ticks, synched rising music** _"My name is Brine, and I am no hero"_ **Quick frames of his first 10 deaths** _"Why? Well, there are many reasons"_ **Flash frames of his last 100 deaths** _"But it starts only from one-"_ **Clocks crescendo, then silence** **Shows a dark frame of a wolf carcass** _"... disc"_ **Shows an ominous numbered disc being put on a music box, crackle** **Fades out and in, then title drop** *[* Minecraft *]* *[* _"When Disc 13 Sings"_ *]* ... *[* _Coming Soon_ *]*
My idea: Steve and Alex working together to try and fight the enderdragon (they slowly learn throughout the story what the enderdragon actually is/how to get to the end to fight it) Steve represents the “builder” play style and Alex represents the “fighter” play style, which are the two most common play styles in Minecraft. I would want a Minecraft movie to recapture that feeling of exploration, awe, and thrill that came with learning to play. So Steve and Alex learning how to beat the enderdragon and traveling the world in order to do it.
Right, cause everyone knows what makes Steve so iconic is his unique and incredible character arc. The origin story that brought us all to tears, the subtle mannerisms the actor pulls off in the game's deep, philosophic cutscenes put to screen using top notch high detail performance capture made by hardworking engineers over the course of decades, and the journey he goes on to complete his destiny.
@@bboi1489 and we can’t forget his brilliant character design of a blue shirt and beard Truly a creative design, unlike Jack Black who has a blue shirt and beard
What bothers me most about this, is that WB made the lego movie, and when they did that, they simulated stop motion animation to mimic fan brick animations that had been made over the years and that helped build the community. Minecraft has THOUSANDS of animations online that they could have pulled from for inspiration, but nope. We need to have this shitty hyper realistic CGI live action hybrid. Also, can we please stop doing the "Gee willikers! We've been sucked into a video game!!1!!1" plot lines? They are so tired at this point. Studios are aware you can set a story IN the universe of a game, right? Edit: One more nitpick - why the hell is Jack Black steve? I remember hearing Jason Momoa was cast way back when announcements were coming out, and I was like "Oh yeah, that makes total sense if they want to make it live action (for some reason)". He already kind of looks like how I imagine steve would in real life, just with longer hair. Plus, the whole joke about steve in the community is that he's this grizzled, jacked survior that kills dragons and can carry 20,000 lbs of stone in his back pocket. Flash forward to now where I didn't even know Jack Black was in the movie, and they made HIM steve!? No hate on jack black, but like another comment said, it doesn't look like they tried at all; just gave him a blue shirt, told him to do his usual "jack black thing" and called it a day. I know this is a lot of hate for a movie that's not even out yet, but if there are this many things I can say about a minute long trailer, I feel that it doesn't bode well for the full movie... Maybe I'll be wrong though, who knows!
True. OR we basically make the Minecraft equivalent of the LEGO movie which was also made by WB. It'd he a great compromise for the fan base to show maybe a kid growing up with Minecraft and how it changes over time.

In a discord server we were discussing the Minecraft movie trailer, and I think I managed to condense my gripe into three main points - Uncanny valley animation - Extremely predictable story beat - Marvel type humor The first point was inevitable the moment they decided to add live action actors, putting them with the classic minecraft look would have contrasted much. Do a full live action and people would ask "Why call it Minecraft ???". So they tried to have a middle ground and ended up combining the worst aspect rather than the best.

What’s unfortunate is that there is so much story potential in Minecraft. Especially if you incorporate things from Minecraft Legends. There’s so much lore. So many creatures and places. So much mystery. So much to explore. You could realistically make way more than just one movie. But unfortunately doing something with that takes time, money, creativity, effort, and more importantly, talent. This isn’t going to even attempt to engage in any of that. This will just be a one off movie to laugh at and forget like an hour after watching it. The only long term effect it will have is uniting the internet over how comically bad it is.
Yeah, the minecraft team has honestly been cooking with their writing recently. Even stuff in the base game like the Warden and the deep dark are amazing. the biggest wtf is how just from this trailer it looks like the plot of Minecraft Legends: going through a blue portal that takes people to Minecraft and piglins invading the overworld If what was rumored is true about the Ender Dragon also being involved than it sounds like there's not really a script and just plot points from different Minecraft games stitched together. Watch an illager raid or the Arch-Illager is somehow gonna show up in this or at least an enemy from the Dungeons game.

How about this: There was a live-action character named Steve who was turned into the minecraft version of himself when he was transported into the Minecraft world and was stuck there for so many years.
They really thought the block game would translate to live action. And after all the good adaptions we're getting they just want to throw it out the window...
- I can't wait for when Jack Black's eyes roll into the back of his head and he says "I am Herobrine now and I am EVIL!!!" - I wonder if Markus will make a cameo in it, probably not considering the lack of quality shown so far. - This movie should've been a more serious survival movie where Steve is played by a tall, muscular guy who's already settled into the world as some sort of mentor to the main character. Villagers would look like normal people, just with enlarged noses (Similar to the dwarves in the Tolkien adaptations). The world would be fairly realistic, though with the biomes, terrain, and foliage similar to Minecraft, populated by realistic animals and creatures.
I mean, he's Jack Black, and yes he cooked. But man, if he just voiced Steve or another character in an animated Minecraft movie, I would be all here for it

No no, this is the actual output. If you hear about the Sonic movie's first teaser (I guess so), the character's design was criticised as it looked ugly, later they edited the movie and then released a better teaser. I hope they would do the same to the Minecraft movie (Not really)
They never did that with Sonic, it was an actual mistake and they actually listened to the fans, Tyson Hesse, the artist behind the Mania Animated Scenes, drew the Sonic Redesign, and saying that pretty much discredits all of what he did to make the Sonic Movie good.

- Steve and Alex's village is zombified, and they have to seek out a witch to find a way to turn the zombies back into villagers with the help of the iron golem, at the end the witch is accepted back into the village
- Steve finds a way to communicate with the endermen after putting a pumpkin on his head and learns of their enslavement by the enderdragon, embarking on a quest to free them
- Steve creates the whither, but is overpowered, barely surviving and losing his whole base and has to train to defeat it
1. Similar to Diary of an 8-bit warrior, would work quite well too
2. Great but would probably not appeal to younger audiences
3. Seems a bit "small scale" (I'm imagining a Minecraft movie would want to involve more than a single village)
4. This one is pretty interesting
5. Minecraft story mode 2.0
All of these are better than whatever this movie has got going though.

**Quick frames of his first 10 deaths**

_"But it starts only from one-"_
**Clocks crescendo, then silence**
**Shows a dark frame of a wolf carcass**

**Shows an ominous numbered disc being put on a music box, crackle**
**Fades out and in, then title drop**

My idea: Steve and Alex working together to try and fight the enderdragon (they slowly learn throughout the story what the enderdragon actually is/how to get to the end to fight it) Steve represents the “builder” play style and Alex represents the “fighter” play style, which are the two most common play styles in Minecraft. I would want a Minecraft movie to recapture that feeling of exploration, awe, and thrill that came with learning to play. So Steve and Alex learning how to beat the enderdragon and traveling the world in order to do it.
These are great ideas!
I hate how we were expected to be excited when Steve introduced himself, but it just doesn’t feel right and it’s just makes us cringe

A random guy in a blue shirt.......hmmm
That’s pretty much what steve is though
Right, cause everyone knows what makes Steve so iconic is his unique and incredible character arc. The origin story that brought us all to tears, the subtle mannerisms the actor pulls off in the game's deep, philosophic cutscenes put to screen using top notch high detail performance capture made by hardworking engineers over the course of decades, and the journey he goes on to complete his destiny.
That's not even a proper t-shirt
@@bboi1489 and we can’t forget his brilliant character design of a blue shirt and beard

- Uncanny valley animation
- Extremely predictable story beat
- Marvel type humor
The first point was inevitable the moment they decided to add live action actors, putting them with the classic minecraft look would have contrasted much.
Do a full live action and people would ask "Why call it Minecraft ???".
So they tried to have a middle ground and ended up combining the worst aspect rather than the best.

I agree, the best way I could see this film work is if they leaned heavy into the lore.
I'm actually devastated that the Villagers won't be voice acted by Dan from Element Animation.
Jack Black wearing a blue shirt and calling it "steve" is not working out.
How about this: There was a live-action character named Steve who was turned into the minecraft version of himself when he was transported into the Minecraft world and was stuck there for so many years.
@@bookert5832 you have already made a better plot than the filmmakers 🙏😭
They really thought the block game would translate to live action. And after all the good adaptions we're getting they just want to throw it out the window...
- I can't wait for when Jack Black's eyes roll into the back of his head and he says "I am Herobrine now and I am EVIL!!!"
- I wonder if Markus will make a cameo in it, probably not considering the lack of quality shown so far.
MicroSOFT hates Notch, so probably not
@@timewarpdrive77 Yeah, my interest in Minecraft dwindled since the creative direction shifted when Microsoft purchased Minecraft.

Mamoa’s character looks like a cross between Thor Love and Thunder with Dora the Explorer.
1:17 Bro really thinks he cooked here
I mean, he's Jack Black, and yes he cooked.
But man, if he just voiced Steve or another character in an animated Minecraft movie, I would be all here for it
Who you calling "bro" that's jack black lil dude
That's the Jackblack. He cooked.
Nah he didn't even cooked, he is Jack White
He’s just doing what he’s told to do for the scene
It's paradoxically both high and low quality in the visual department, it gives serious fanmade trailer vibes.
“1..2..3.. Minecraft team go!!, heh that sounded better in my head”
They should've hired ExplodingTNT to make the movie.
Exploding: The Tnt Movie
He doesn’t animate, and I doubt that they would have contact with him
I guess they could see if they could get someone like Evbo to write it at least
Jack black "I am steve"
Oh no you ain't
Could have done the intro to Steve differently. Like not as a hype type but rather a calm normal intro. But its Hollywood so we gonna get our childhood ruin again.
Yea idk why they had to make it dramatic when everyone knows who Steve is as a character rather than making it a huge dramatic part of the story they could of introduced him as the main character instead of some kid, that's just my opinion
That ain't Steve. That's just "Jack"
Also Jack Black :
*Turns into Herobrine*

IF THEY KEPT IT FUCKING CONSISTENT
Make it FULLY ANIMATED(without gross hyperrealistic mobs) OR make it completely real thing, with real people, real props and stuff.
This cchimera bullshit of everything together is so stupid
well yeah, but that would require them to make an animated movie, and as we all know at this stage, hollywood fucking hates animation

We are gonna be the same situation with the Sonic Movie with this one🗣️🔥

fym the sonic movie was good
@@moneybuth talking about the first Sonic design, that was ass
Jack Black has become the modern embodiment of the Rob Schneider thing South Park made fun of.
"Jack Black herp de derp, tum ta tiddly tum ta to. Rated PG-13"
Hollywood disrespects the art form of animation so much it's ridiculous.
My theory is that they made the teaser trailer intentionally bad to get engagement, then drop the ACTUAL teaser trailer where everything is animated and further increase engagement, similar to what they did in Sonic.
Copium 😭🙏
@@ScoutNessplus people just ignore that the sonic movie one merch used old sonic
Just because they didn’t do it with sonic doesn’t mean they won’t do it with Minecraft
The sonic one was a case of actually listening to fans
This one could be a case of trying to do that except on purpose
We should've gotten a sequel to story mode than this 😭
check out Block By Block: The Amulet's trailer, closest thing we're ever gonna get.
The season 2 in question:
Dawg people are too obsessed with this story mode movie idea I think that a sequel would be so much harder to pull off decently not to mention that the fact that everyone has heard of Minecraft but so many less people know about story mode so it probably wouldn’t do as well
