Simple answer to the head cannon loophole. Henry starts as a boot leg Small boiler C2 with more problems than usual because of the lack of quality during manufacturing. This causes him to rely on Welsh coal. After the kipper crash he's sent to Doncaster instead of crew and upgraded to a much better quality Large boiler C1. This also makes scone because in awdry's drawing his boiler is rather slim.
I feel like if Henry did remain a C1 Atlantic, he would have a few issues, but not to the point of special coal or a rebuild (though, he probably would get the same slide valve to piston valve upgrade the other C1s got) And I don't know why, but I feel like awdry's spirit is happy about us recognising his idea for Henry better than the RWS illustrators
If I remember correctly, Christopher Awdry wrote that, in universe, Sir Topham Hat had ordered Henry as a GCR 8B. As for Wilbert Awdry, though his early illustrations definitely show that he originally conceived Henry as an Atlantic, there are no sources for if he had a _specific_ locomotive class in mind. Looking at Awdry's drawings of Henry (plus Edward & Gordon also) they seem fairly generic, not really matching any specific class, so I don't think that he did. Looking forward a bit, Gordon didn't really become an A1 Pacific until Payne's illustrations, & Edward wasn't really a Furness K2 until the TIoS book. If the illustrators hadn't messed up drawing Henry, then it probably would've been the same, with Wilbert Awdry settling on a specific class of Atlantic for Henry later on. And who knows, maybe Awdry _would have_ made Henry a C1, or an 8B, or something else. We can only guess.
Dude I really respect how you call Henry your rarest and most favorite train to collect. And I say this outta the fact that Henry is my favorite engine of all time😎
@@ItsTrainBoy id rather ride on one, for many years my family would ride the scenic rail tour in NH always in the caboose became great friends with the conductor that owns it
C1 Atlantic is truly a beautiful engine in terms of bases the C1 Atlantic would be better for old shape Henry but story-wise Henry wouldn't be well Henry as we know him today
Given the downsized boiler of the C2, I think it's entirely possible that Henry could be a prototype that's essentially a C2 with a lengthened boiler and frame to accommodate a third driver set. The extra boiler space without a properly enlarged firebox could very easily cause his steaming problems.
What with WildNorWester's own Atlantic (a GNR C1 named Alice), I can definitely agree that the GNR C1 Atlantics are very beautiful, and I'm lucky to own a Bachmann model myself.
Now this I can believe it being your favorite! So far no one produces a GCR Class 8B in OO, so a GNR C1 Larger Boiler is the perfect Awdry style Henry! The fact that the designer for the C1s was named Henry almost seems like writing on the wall! And let's be a opened minded here: 98462 doesn't always have to be a Holden S69/B12...he can be a 4-4-2.
I saw your Tweet and thought you just ripped the door of, I didn’t know it was removable and can be put back on. I have wanted one of these for a long time.
Gotta love a good C1 Atlantic! I snagged one of these in the GNR livery for myself earlier this year and it is definitely one of my most treasured models.

I think henry is a GNR A1 prototype but with a smaller firebox. You see it took three years to build him so he arrive on sodor the same year he was finished.
Unfortunately not, that’s one of the biggest blows that the model has. 😭 It’s honestly that and how expensive it is that keep me from giving it a full 10/10!
id rate it a 9/10 by how amazing it looks i actually think it looks better than tv series henry however i still love that version as well mainly cuz i grew up with that version of henry
Looking at Sam’s review, apparently this model has the same amount of pulling power as the Bachmann Henry, which is really interesting considering Henry was originally meant to be an Atlantic loco.
something that really bothers me is the fact that the wheels are closer to the centre and you dont see much movement in the siderods but i can see why they've done that, it makes it go faster (im assuming)
A marvelous Atlantic. I may be biased on the Southerns by saying that I believe the H1 is the better Atlantic (in my opinion, of course), but I would not be lying in saying that Henry Oakley is a beautiful locomotive, too.
Also, when typing this, I just realized how perfect Henry being a C1 is because of the name of one of the only ones preserved, “HENRY Oakley”. Coincidence?! Yeah, definitely. However the other preserved C1 looks more like the drawing, though.
