Rewatching this one other detail during their trial Donald 100% DELIBERATELY crashed into that signalbox to stall time for his brother to turn things around. Donald and Douglas are two of my favorite characters, when I was younger, i adored their theme, it sounded so grand, coupled with George Carlin's very impressive Scottish voice for both of them, made them stand out quite a bit. Long live the Scottish Twins
My jaw nearly hit the floor when I heard Joe Mills's voice, definitely wasn't expecting that but it certainly was a welcoming surprise. Needless to say this Sodor's Finest was definitely worth the wait!
Many twin characters have come and gone in fiction; but Donald and Douglas are the pioneers of the chaos twins trope Godspeed you magnificent Caledonians
“Did Loham put young up to this?” 😄 Maybe there was a hidden get in that era. Anyway, loved the analysis of how The Missing Coach was the missing gem. They are the best twins!
What i find outstanding about their "Spotlight Book" is that Donald & Douglas got ALL the engines to agree that they should both be kept on Sodor. When did the "Big 3" and Percy ever agree on anything before?
You’re telling me you got Joe Mills for this? That’s absolutely insane whilst amazing! I’m very glad the twins got their own Sodor’s Finest - They definitely deserve it, great work Nic
Easily one of the best retrospectives! Edward’s always going to be a personal favorite, but this is Grade A. I love the introspective into the twins at their best and worst, and the interlude sections are one of my favorite additions to this series! The fact you actually got Douglas’ VA is astounding, and Donald’s feels a bit more appropriate, much as I love his Rackstraw voice. Props to you as well Nic, I actually didn’t realize YOU were voicing Topham at first!
Donald and Douglas are fun characters together or by themselves. It’s why people like buried trunk enjoy writing stories centered around them. Them being originally numbered 57646 and 57647 makes us infer that, although their original Caledonian railway numbers are unknown, they would have originally been numbered 17646 and 17647 in lms days. Lastly, having Joe mills actually reprise Douglas for this is truly a welcome surprise. It’s on the level of Richard Melvin (retired member of the Fort Wayne railroad historical society (owners of nickel plate 765)) and Dave Drui (narrator of pentrex) guest narrating promo videos of content by K&L Trainz.
Donald and Douglas being the two cheery, loud Scottish blokes drinking pints with the lads down at the pub is EXACTLY how I see them, was delighted to see that comparison
As a Scottish kid growing up on the series I naturally gravitated towards the wins, remember being shocked to learn they were painted blue in the RWS. The show keeping them black was smart imo, helped them stick out among the cast especially Edward.
Spectacular work, Nic! I've been waiting for Donald and Douglas for so long; they're my favourite set of twins in the Thomas franchise! 😄 Living in Britain all my life and getting lookouts to Scotland, I tend to look back with the Scottish twins, make me think how amazing Scotland is, with its scenery of lochs, the bagpipes, the folklore, etc. And the fact they were in danger of being scrapped makes another reference to real railways, that everyone should learn. Shame "The Missing Coach" had to be cancelled from the TV series, but at least the show paid it off nicely, as I do really enjoy seeing them on-screen. By the way, since I love the show that much, I'm more keen on them painted black, though I appreciate they're blue in later Railway Series books because their basis are. Also, thank you so much for pointing out they had never spoken to each other in series 3 of the show; I never realised that before! 😃 And as much as I loved seeing them in the rest of the show, I get it's frustrating Hit Entertainment decided to keep them inseparable, because they have worked apart so much before. I was at least happy they came back in Sodor's Legend of the Lost Treasure after being pushed aside starting from series 8, with those few brief comebacks like in "Gordon and the Engineer"! 😃 I'm probably gonna get some arguments about this, but I'm fine with their only two starring roles in the CGI series having them arguing, since I really love those two. At least "Emily in the Middle" had them interact with Emily, like you said. Too bad that while Big World! Big Adventures! is average for me, Donald and Douglas barely appeared; it's like Mattel doesn't care for those we truly love... ☹ Now they're coming in the terrible All Engines Go! What?! 😠 But nevertheless, Donald and Douglas will always be two of my absolute favourite Thomas & Friends characters, and nothing will change that. I know their theme in the model era got into my head whenever I thought of them! Thank you so much, Wilbert Awdry! 😄 Also, brilliant you got Joe Mills to voice Douglas again for your recreation of the book The Twin Engines, Nic. It brings back good memories of how great he was on the CGI series of Thomas. 👍
YES!!! My two favorite characters in the franchise have finally gotten a Sodor's Finest, and it was amazing! I had a big grin on my face every time Donald & Douglas' theme began to play, and I love the analogy of the twins representing the hardened yet jovial common folk at the pub! Donald and Douglas are such lovable characters in so many ways, from their sympathetic backstory to their passionate and hardworking personalities, all down to the subtle differences that set each twin apart. I have loved these two since childhood, and despite how bumpy their TVS journey was at times, they'll always hold a special place in my heart. I also really enjoyed the scenes retelling "The Twin Engines", and the fact that you got Douglas' official VA from the show to voice him is amazing! This is undoubtedly my favorite installment of Sodor's Finest :)
These two are just the definition of perfect. Brotherly bond, amazing origins, Scotland Jargon, basis, livery, basically everything. These two are the most relatable, and my favorite TTTE characters
Ditto. And the fact that it’s been 7 years since Donald and Douglas last appeared in CGI, the same time gap in between their last Model appearance and their CGI Debut, is kinda crazy.
it’s funny how while he tends to talk about the hit era nitrogen era and bwba era he just simply pretends aeg doesn’t exist, he and the rest of hate so much we don’t even want to talk about how bad it is as it speaks for itself.
@@karenfan010 Probably because in the case of Nitrogen and BWBA, it’s a part of the same show as the classic era and Brenner Era, while AEG is it’s own separate show, so they don’t have to cover it.

Thank You SO much for finally doing Donald and Douglas! You've really pinned down all the unique intricasies that make these two so beloved, and though I accidentally spoiled myself on who it was ahead of time, it was still a fun opportunity to go through their book and episodes again in anticipation of this installment! Their original S2 2-Parter, despite being condensed, has always intrigued me with all the brakevan drama and how it affected their impressions on TFC. I'm glad you highlighted their banger themes too, that triumphant Scottish drumbeat lives rent-free in my head. Perfect timing too, I'm actually going on a trip to Scotland next month, so hopefully I'll be able to see the REAL Donald/Douglas too! Seriously Nic, you've absolutely killed it, working your way back up from all the UA-cam kerfuffle with tried and true grit! That sort of perseverence is really inspiring, and I pray for all the best for you and your channel! Here's to 100k and beyond! (And maybe a SF on Daisy too; I think that'd be fun) Cheers!
Thomas is the cheeky one, James is vain but lots of fun, Percy pulls the mail, and Emily? She’s the girl. So what are you two supposed to be? Donald and Douglas: WE’RE SCOTTISH!
"Thomas is the cheeky one, James is vain but lots of fun, Percy pulls the mail on time, and Gordon, well, thunders down the line. So who are you supposed to be?" "WE'RE SCOTTISH!"
Finally our Caledonian Twins themselves❤❤ also SO awesome that Joe Mills actually wanted to return as Douglas for this video, also considering he didn't voice him for that many years!

After watching this video, I have a new appreciation for Donald and Douglas, and have honestly become one of my favourite characters. Also, having Joe Mills in the voice cast was amazing!
This is definitely one of your best Sodor's Finest episodes. Donald and Douglas have always been some of my favorite characters, so seeing this made me thrilled. From the analysation of their backstories and personalities, to the reimagined stories with stellar editing and voice acting, it's all so, so good!
This was so insightful on two characters that, previously, I hadn't paid much attention to in the series. But I love this. Fun Fact: I actually did write a story years ago as a child about Donald and Douglas, where Donald was better with passenger trains and Douglas was better with goods trains, and they switched roles for a day to see how hard the other twin's job was.
Everyone's praising about how you got Mills on for Douglas, as am I, but I do want to give praise to you for how good you sound as The Fat Controller, I didn't even recognise you first time watching it, you and everyone involved did amazing work on this!
That is so incredible. It was written beautifully and the way the storyline from 'The Twin Engines' was explained in Railway Series style was astonishing. What surprised me is how you managed to get Joe Mills to voice Douglas. Well done to all of you involved with the video 😀.
I just realized that this could be an indirect to the Missing Coach, but in Love Me Tender, Donald LITERALLY goes away with Douglas’s tender; while Douglas is the tenderless one.
I have been waiting for a Donald & Douglas episode and my goodness, did you and everyone involved deliver! Numbers 8, 9 & 10 always stood out to me as a child and they were always my go to in my collection of ertl models. Admittedly, they still are in my writing too. Thank you for such a wonderful dive into their past. My favourite SF from you now. You've done the twins and yourself proud on this one! :)
@@WatchVidsMakeLists Reminds me of SamTheTrainFan's reaction to Blue Mountain Mystery. "They'll tell the Thin Controller! And he'll tell the Fat Controller!" "And he'll tell the Even Bigger Controller!"
One detail I love with the two paralleling 'bickering' episodes is that usually when an engine is made to help one that wronged them, they usually refuse and have to be shamed or coerced into doing it. By contrast, both twins have a moment the other is in danger, and the person informing them barely has time to finish the details before they frantically rush to save them. Also one other detail I noticed, both CGI episodes for the twins have Toby, and they're a rare moment we get his matter of fact 'sits back and let's them screw up' type characterisation return. Guess they were a good luck charm for him.
Bro I just thought the voice actors for Donald and Douglas were super accurate, only for it to be revealed that Douglas was voiced by his previously official voice actor! My mind was blown away! Fantastic work as always! I’m so happy that you will release the soundtrack for this saga like you did for Edward’s! I listed to that one nonstop for weeks after its release and still listen to it every now and then! Isaiah does phenomenal work!
I absolutely love these rededitions of the model series as they are in the railway series between segments! And as many have said, getting the original CGI VA in it is just the icing on the cake! Well done sir!
The Scottish accents I think are what make Donald and Douglas a ton of fun! I was shocked seeing Joe Mills' name listed in the closing credits. He certainly, as you said, delivered! Good work on another great edition of Sodor's Finest, Tug!
I like how Nic said there will be more content to the RWS segments in a separate video. It’s a smart strategy to get viewers to watch it instead of cramming it all into one video.
Well I’ll be damned it WAS the Caledonian twins after all! Ok I did NOT see Joe Mills himself actually reprising the role of Douglas here, that genuinely caught me off guard. But it’s all the more reason these character retrospectives are so enjoyable when they go the extra mile.
We never ask Unlucky Tug to go this hard on his videos, but the fact he does makes me appreciate the Thomas fandom and the lengths they’ll go just to make fellow fans happy.
The intermission segments are always the best part! I imagine Oliver would feature him on his old railway and his escape with Douglas! Phenomenal! This alongside the Edward episode are the best ones! The fact you got a Thomas voice actor is…impressive! This is the king of Thomas reviewers! One of he kings in general! I love that when Percy bumps in the trucks in The Deputation bit the trucks! Tug is simply amazing!
Now THIS is how you do characters that the show did dirty some justice. I loved everything about this episode of Sodor's Finest, and i can't believe you got a actual VA from the real Show to voice his character, that's a feat anybody should be proud of. If Edward, and the twins are this high quality, then the other characters, including Gordon's remake, will definitely be as good if not better. Well done, Tug and everyone else. Your Sodor's Finest videos are peak deep dives into the characters' journeys.
Getting Joe Mills to voice Douglas in this was unbelievable. It is so fantastic that you actually managed to get him, or any of the official VA's in one of your projects. I always liked the CGI Series Donald and Douglas theme. I can imagine it as music in a winter-themed level in a video game, such as in a Banjo-Kazooie rom-hack. I wonder if anybody will ever do a Banjo-Kazooie-styled version of this theme at some point.
I must say I was actually quite surprised to see you voiced the Fat Controller yourself! You did very well, I didn't recognise your voice at all! The fact you got Joe Mills to do Douglas again is absolutely mental, gg
This is the best episode of Sodor’s Finest by far. I may be a bit biased as these two are my favorite characters in the series. But everything is just so good about this, and the fact that you got Joe Mills to voice Douglas is just the cherry on top. Fantastic work on doing the twins justice!
Love how you've masterfully interwoven the missing story segments as a footage recycle based redub. Really well balanced how you did it in reoccuring segments. Enjoyed this (as I do all your vids) :)
Another certified BANGER for Sodor's Finest! And such a nice surprise to hear Joe Mills playing Douglas again, hope he gets the callback if the main series gets to return (Donald, Oliver & Toad as well!), or AEG since they're bringing the Twins to life there soon - Keep Up The Great Work! (:

Donald and Douglas are two of my favorite characters, when I was younger, i adored their theme, it sounded so grand, coupled with George Carlin's very impressive Scottish voice for both of them, made them stand out quite a bit. Long live the Scottish Twins
Same here because I especially loved Douglas the most
52:00 Good, I’m not the only one who’s noticed this lol.
I’m shocked how you actually got Joe to voice Douglas. Good job to everyone!!!!
good to hear his voice again
LETS GO!!! SCOTLAND!! 🏴
FOR SCOTLAND!!!
SCOTLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAN FORRRRRRRRREVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
SCOTLAND FOREVER!!!!!!
My jaw nearly hit the floor when I heard Joe Mills's voice, definitely wasn't expecting that but it certainly was a welcoming surprise. Needless to say this Sodor's Finest was definitely worth the wait!
The fact that you got Joe Mills himself to voice-act in this legit blows my mind. Phenomenal work as always, Tug! 😁.
Many twin characters have come and gone in fiction; but Donald and Douglas are the pioneers of the chaos twins trope
Godspeed you magnificent Caledonians
twins come and twins go; BUT THE SCOTS LIVE ON FOREVER
@WorthyofThyLoveBritish media you mean?
“Did Loham put young up to this?” 😄 Maybe there was a hidden get in that era. Anyway, loved the analysis of how The Missing Coach was the missing gem. They are the best twins!
I feel like Lowham could be worked into the model series
There definitely was
"Either we both will win, or we both will go down trying."
Or as Gordon would say, "United we Stand, Together we Fall!"
Props to you as well Nic, I actually didn’t realize YOU were voicing Topham at first!
if you think about it, Donald played russian roulette with his life just to have a chance to save Douglas
Shit your right
@@aladding7292 when he crashed into that signal box?
That's would they would be if they were human
And as much as I loved seeing them in the rest of the show, I get it's frustrating Hit Entertainment decided to keep them inseparable, because they have worked apart so much before. What?! 😠
But nevertheless, Donald and Douglas will always be two of my absolute favourite Thomas & Friends characters, and nothing will change that.
4:56 I'm flabbergasted you mentioned All Engines Go
Ditto. And the fact that it’s been 7 years since Donald and Douglas last appeared in CGI, the same time gap in between their last Model appearance and their CGI Debut, is kinda crazy.
I don’t give a shit since they’re likely gonna BE shit. AEG, baby.
it’s funny how while he tends to talk about the hit era nitrogen era and bwba era he just simply pretends aeg doesn’t exist, he and the rest of hate so much we don’t even want to talk about how bad it is as it speaks for itself.
@@karenfan010 Probably because in the case of Nitrogen and BWBA, it’s a part of the same show as the classic era and Brenner Era, while AEG is it’s own separate show, so they don’t have to cover it.
As someone from scotland who keeps coming back to thomas as a safe space this was proper braw to watch, all the wee things between donald and douglass being proper scottish lads always feels just perfect
Donald and Douglas are two of the best engines in the entire series. And it's incredible that you got Joe Mills to voice Douglas in this! I hope you'll get more official TTTE VAs on board in future!
Hearing Joe Mills in the intro was amazing! I missed him very much!
"Either we both will win...or we both will go down trying!"
...
Well said, Tug...Well said, indeed.
Thomas is the cheeky one, James is vain but lots of fun, Percy pulls the mail, and Emily? She’s the girl. So what are you two supposed to be?
Donald and Douglas: WE’RE SCOTTISH!
Rpm! Get in gear!!
😂 I understand that reference!
@@goimei Do they also stand together?
Damn I made the same joke but I only did the *”IM SCOTTISH.”* Bravo man you did it better :) XD
@@brenlc1412 Nice touch referencing the Engine Roll-Call.
Donald and Douglas are underrated
I’ve never seen those photos of the Caledonian railway before. That Royal Blue livery is gorgeous.
"Thomas is the cheeky one, James is vain but lots of fun, Percy pulls the mail on time, and Gordon, well, thunders down the line. So who are you supposed to be?"
"WE'RE SCOTTISH!"
57:50 I find the way that Percy's voice stays all high-pitched while he's nervous more amusing than I probably should
Finally our Caledonian Twins themselves❤❤ also SO awesome that Joe Mills actually wanted to return as Douglas for this video, also considering he didn't voice him for that many years!
I'm glad these segments are now apart of this series.
What a fabulous treat this was! I enjoyed watching the entire story of these two wonderful characters. The little adaptations were joyful too, and how great it was to hear Joe Mills as Douglas again. Well done to you and everyone involved 😊

The fact that Percy’s eyes are wonky at 57:30 makes his reaction so much better.
D&D are so about family they might as well be in the next Fast & Furious movie
And hearing Joe Mills reprise his role as Douglas for this is the most epic thing to come from Sodor’s Finest yet
Donald and Douglas’ faces being put on two men in a pub made me chuckle, a good edit. Can’t wait to watch the rest of the video!
1:51 Nice Lowham reference
After watching this video, I have a new appreciation for Donald and Douglas, and have honestly become one of my favourite characters.
Also, having Joe Mills in the voice cast was amazing!
I’m just SO impressed that you were able to hire Joe Mills himself to voice Douglas for this!! Awesome job Nic!! 😃🙌👏🏻
I love Trampy's impersonation of Henry in these videos. The way he just says' Bye-bye' just has me chuckling under my breath.
Everyone's praising about how you got Mills on for Douglas, as am I, but I do want to give praise to you for how good you sound as The Fat Controller, I didn't even recognise you first time watching it, you and everyone involved did amazing work on this!
The fact that you got Joe Mills in this is absolutely mind blowing! My favourite take on the Twins is definitely the RWS
That is so incredible. It was written beautifully and the way the storyline from 'The Twin Engines' was explained in Railway Series style was astonishing. What surprised me is how you managed to get Joe Mills to voice Douglas. Well done to all of you involved with the video 😀.
Having Joe Wills on board was absolutely amazing!! Donald and Douglas are great characters and I enjoyed this episode so much!!
I just realized that this could be an indirect to the Missing Coach, but in Love Me Tender, Donald LITERALLY goes away with Douglas’s tender; while Douglas is the tenderless one.
The fact that Joe Mills, the OFFICIAL voice actor of Douglas was brought back by Tug to voice Douglas again, is truly astonishing. 👍
Can you imagine if Donald and Douglas meets Duncan who is also Scottish from Scotland
This is one of many reason why people respect Tug.
*”IM SCOTTISH!!!”*
Guess this reference :)
16:06, *Nice* XD
Doctor Who- 12th(13th regeneration)

Is the reference wearing spandex?
I have been waiting for a Donald & Douglas episode and my goodness, did you and everyone involved deliver! Numbers 8, 9 & 10 always stood out to me as a child and they were always my go to in my collection of ertl models. Admittedly, they still are in my writing too. Thank you for such a wonderful dive into their past. My favourite SF from you now. You've done the twins and yourself proud on this one! :)
I always assumed things went wrong in-universe just as a subtle way to stop Topham from indulging in pastries 24/7
All the mishaps on his railway are going to turn the Fat Controller into the Average Weight Controller at this rate
@@WatchVidsMakeLists Reminds me of SamTheTrainFan's reaction to Blue Mountain Mystery.
"They'll tell the Thin Controller! And he'll tell the Fat Controller!"
"And he'll tell the Even Bigger Controller!"
It's his punishment for it
One detail I love with the two paralleling 'bickering' episodes is that usually when an engine is made to help one that wronged them, they usually refuse and have to be shamed or coerced into doing it.
The fact you got Douglas’ voice actor from the show to be a part of this is extra amazing!!!!
22:03 I wouldn’t be surprised if Unlucky Tug used this exact line in his wedding vows. This passage hits hard in the best way possible.
36:42 That perfectly cut scream when Duck vanished!!! 😂😂😂
Duck gets Thanos snapped and other stories. 😂
*”AA-“*
He got shadow realmed
The Scottish accents I think are what make Donald and Douglas a ton of fun! I was shocked seeing Joe Mills' name listed in the closing credits. He certainly, as you said, delivered! Good work on another great edition of Sodor's Finest, Tug!
I imagine if Duncan meets Donald and Douglas Scottish Twins meets a narrow gauge engine who is Scottish
@@vanessasandoval96I remember Skarloey Rheneas doing something like that once several years ago before he deleted his channel.
@@vanessasandoval96Emily should be in that story too
I like how Nic said there will be more content to the RWS segments in a separate video.
Agreed; like Duck the Great Western engine, Unlucky Tug is a symbol of unyielding QUALITY in the Thomas fandom through and through.
Donald and Douglas are here! Those two are amazing!
Loved the bits in between and the ending. All of the voice actors fit well with all the characters, and of course Joe!
