My brother you are NOT depressing me at all Sir! You are bringing to light how the trucking industry is just not providing for all the fine men and women who help transport goods all over our country! If your getting two(2) dollars a mile today, the industry wants John Q Public to believe that it's great pay! I was getting that and more in the early 80's! I drove over the road 25 plus years and I'm out of it today! Caught a stroke and mind you I was in shape! Drunk driver hit my truck and I stroked out! Today I'm battling Social Security for my SSD benefits! Country is changing, society and trucking are down! They always say trucking makes a comeback, but I don't see the rates going up nor many jobs pulling freight! Best to YOU SIR, love the real content. In my prayers brother. Gilbert Alicea NYC

Look man, being you is what made this channel so interesting. We don't ever get bored watching you. Well I know I don't. I hate trucking channels that show most of the trucker and not much of the truck. Your channel show most of everything but mostly trucking and I love it. And it seems more organic and not fake for views. And honestly, I love your little rants because it shows that you are human. Keep being you and we'll keep watching.

I’ve dropped a few trailers in my time, why you might ask, well, I was distracted from my routine and screwed up, luckily, they were light loads and NO damage, thank Yahweh! Drivers, always do the “tug” test, every time, especially after coming out of a Truck stop or a rest area, there are aholes out there that will pull your pin whilst you are inside! I always checked the king pin with a flashlight, and keep the same exact routine every time, this will keep you out of trouble. I hate routine but in that job you have to. A severe on the job injury took me out of the drivers seat, the way Trucking is now I guess it was a blessing in disguise . Happy Trails Drivers!

I was a yard dog at a trucking company in Denver. We had a driver take the yard truck (when he wasn’t supposed to) when all the yard dogs were gone cause he wanted to wash his trailer. He did exactly what this yard dog did. Dropped the trailer, buckled the landing gear, destroyed the fuel tank etc. Company fined the driver since he wasn’t supposed to be in there in the first place.

Kurt, taking their past record of them being late I never would have left home until they confirm that the trailer is loaded. Your time is worth money, even if you just sit at home or take care of first class at home. If your agent can't get you 125 dollars for fuel then for sure I don't move until it's confirmed that the load is ready! Love the content and I hate to see a nice guy like you get screwed.

Yep, you will find those gaps in the winter. Especially in Iowa. I'm in Iowa all the time, and the wind never stops, ever... I had a gap under my seat. I could never find it, but always felt the cold wind on my legs when driving. It ran me crazy untill i found it.

I use 1 bottle of 90% alcohol and a couple drops of blue dawn, with a cup of water. Shake.
Use in spray bottle, it’ll clean better than degreaser and sanitizes too without ruining surfaces in vehicles
Even great in glass, and bugs.

Good Morning Schmidt Family, I know that winter is miserable so anything you can do to keep the heat in and the the cold out is worth the time and money. Have you priced installing insulation behind all of your trim panels? Man, would that feel better no matter what the season! Kurt, I've been thinking about this load problem. Your company knows that you're comfortable. And that you're not the young hungry guy. Remember when you'd be gone by now because you had to? You took a few weeks off last winter. And this job has been pretty good with your home life and how far out you really want to be. Before you leave, maybe have a really good chat with somebody. It is easy to take people for granted which is what they're doing. You are an easy going guy and they know it. But they have to realize there is a lot at stake for them. You are an excellent driver. I hope they catch wind of this video and maybe that will be enough to wake them up.

We have 2 dogs, the medium dog loves his belly scratched, constantly, the huge alpha dog doesn’t do that, or play, and gets upset and barks at the cats playing, he’s a strange bird. He is so heavy I can’t even lift him up into the tub for his bath, so we do it outside, during the summer. I like those steps that you have for your dog, pretty cool. Keep on truckin Schmidt, trucking isn’t easy, pimping ain’t easy, haha!

i never understood how people drop trailers. because you have to get out to hook up the airlines and raise the landing gear all it takes is a extra 3 footsteps to visually check the jaws locked around the kingpin. and of course a tug test.

O-H-I-O Porter greetings 🇺🇸 I dropped a trailer once…it was a 50s Dorsey pup trailer that had swing back dollies. You ever seen those? They swing back a bit when you back under the trailer. Also, you have the kingpin already installed into your 5th wheel. That’s the way I did it. Then you have a little latch that holds the kingpin locked in. Well, it failed & I didn’t get too far before the trailer went..BAM,BOOM! Something you don’t easily forget. With the crossmembers going through the floor is not good! And they’re gonna repair the trailer? WOW! I always hated sitting by the phone or waiting for a trailer to get loaded! Hate it with a passion!! Good advice, but it can go both ways. If you want to be dependable, then don’t hop around from job to job. That’s what my brother always told me as well. That can backfire quickly as well. Just because another job might pay more doesn’t mean it’s better in the long run. I’m sure you’ve been there. Hanging around was probably the best choice. You got to clean your truck & have dinner with your family as well. Hopefully you got detained pay or whatever. A bonus for being patient. Breezy… check under your couch, in the middle of the floor. Blessings my friend.🥰😵‍💫✌️

I am pretty anal about my hookups, I hook and tug test, get out and do a visual, then at the end of the trailer inspection and before lifting the gear I do another visual check of the jaws. Then lift the gear get in the truck, get everyhing sorted, map directions set, log the trailer in my notebook etc, then before I pull out I make a point to get out of the truck one more time, and do a quick last check, Doors closed and secure on the trailer, legs up on trailer, visually check jaws, visually check hoses, Confirm my lights are on (i shut them down during part of the pretrip to check brake light function) and then check I have all my tools, make sure I have all my tools back in the truck Hammer, wrench, flashlight etc so I do not lose stuff. Then I get in the truck and ready to go, I release the truck brakes and do one last slow Tug test, carefully because the legs are up now. then I release the trailer brakes, do a quick trailer brake test, then an S turn to visually see all trailer wheels are moving. I did all this and after 6 years had my first dropped trailer. Got up to the point where legs are up, ready to go and do a last tug test, Tug test holds, truck rocks. I then release the trailer brakes and begin to start a roll and suddenly clang! Thump!, I just dropped the trailer, No damaged hoses just stretched out a bit. I am like WTF? What the hell happened, I get out to inspect the damage, no damage luckily, I now have to crank the full trailer up in low gear, and scratching my head what the hell did I do wrong. Had not had an issue with this 5th wheel all night, but first time driving this specific truck that shift, Multiple tugs passed, Multiple visuals on the locking jaws and lever, all was good, then as soon as I released the trailer brakes the truck just slides out from under the trailer with no resistance. I still scratch my head on that one. After getting it hooked back up I tug-tested the hell out of it to make sure it was not going anywhere again. I am just grateful it dropped at the field and not on the road.

Just a note on the fire extinguisher, no matter what size you get, the extinguisher only last 15 seconds, by design. Theory, If you cannot put the fire out in 15 seconds, get the hell away. This is what was taught to us during a training exercise with hands on putting out a fire. That was back in the late 90’s, let me know if things have changed.

You're not depressed Kurt. It's that place where your mind is overtaking your work. You have just lost your stride. That dead space when you're too close to home waiting and yet too far to realistically go home (I know it's trucking but....). Think about what you really want to do. If a change is required to get your enthusiasm back or if the company can come to a place that you want to stay. Just find out one way or the other. Don't just stay in indecision. Find out the facts and act. When you were waiting to leave home in the first place and decided to stay home for the night...there's where it starts.....your mind was working but you weren't......and then when it's time that you have to go, then you really don't want to. We all know the feeling.

Thanks Kurt for your work. Seems your very good at multi-tasking. Home, work, animals, drive etc. And....do you have a cat turbo, or maybe a borg warner? With a waste gate?
