Mk4 Golf 1.8T Oil Catch Can Install!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 1 жов 2024
- Today I installed a oil catch can from Creation Motorsport, onto my Golf mk4 1.8t AUM engine! I'm sure if you're watching then you already know what benefits this has, but it basically catches all the vapours etc that cause wear and tear on your engine and pcv hoses. Massive thanks to CM for linking me with the tank, grab it here:

For those who don't want to sit through my silly rambling (understandable)
*The catch can install starts at **1:45*
The 'hockey puck' is actually a very crude separator so isn't really needed. It just prevents liquid flowing into the inlet which means the any 'oil' will flow back to the engine and the vapour will be sucked into the inlet.
Cal M ah right I see! Thanks for explaning 👌
The 'Hockey Puck' isn't a separator. It is the pressure regulating valve, PRV. It is intended to guard against the vacuum pressure becoming excessive in the PCV (positive crankcase ventilation) system. Alot of people confuse this valve as being a one way check valve - it is not a check valve, you should be able to blow through it both ways. It should be free flowing to air flowing from the PCV pipework into the TIP (turbo in pipe) whilst it offers restriction to air flowing the other way. It is this restriction to air flowing from the TIP into the PCV pipework through the PRV valve that regulates and guards against excessive vacuum pressure being generated.
Just brought a mark 4, great vids man
Hi mate, good video. Do you get any oil smell in the cabin with a catch can setup?(windows open and closed)
I also got a GTI mk4 1.8t, with turbo problems. This might be hard to believe, but my T-connection (which you held at 5:21) is also very soft like yours. I bought a new exhaust pipline (the thickest one, like you did) but my turbo problem was still there. I bought a new "T" connection (the one at 5:21), and hopefully that will fix my problem. I just hate the fact that my Golf is not idling at a stable rate. It's annoying af xD. Anyway, I like really your videos and I always watch/like them when you upload. Watching you fixing your car, sort of reminds me when I'm doing it. I know like half the shit I'm doing, but in the end it usually turns out to work hehe :). Last but no least, GTI mk4 1.8T RULEZZZZZZ, best car ever.
Hope that fixes it for you! Cheers for the support man 👌
If the car isn't idling right and has shaky boost when accelerating full throttle its definitely your air flow sensor that's next to your airfilter.
Try accelerating once with the airflow sensor disconnected. Should boost like normal.
Just replace the sensor if you have problems. Just cleaning it doenst always work and makes you look in the wrong places
Clean your throttle body and get a new gasket for it and go thru all of your vacuums lines that can cause you to lose alot of boost or not even boost at all really
On my BAM S3 I deleted everything under the inlet (that pipe you were unsure about) and ran a 1 way valve from the inlet to the brake booster but not too sure I should have got rid of the vacuum ejector as basically now under boost (when my car isn't making vacuum) it isn't supplying vacuum to the brake booster. This wouldn't usually be an issue as there's enough vacuum there already for 1 or so brake presses and gets topped up again when I let off. So unless you are left foot braking to keep the car in boost it doesn't matter.
In fact some 1.8T's didn't have ejectors and I know the A4's don't instead they have a vacuum reservoir. But meh, I could fix it if I wanted to, by adding the ejector somewhere but I honestly cba
Cal M ah I see that makes sense yeah, I'm not sure what to do 😂
You can eliminate the puck (pcv valve) if you have a vent to atmosphere catch can. Yours is sealed so it won’t release crank case pressure and basically cause oil leaks everywhere. So you should keep it
On the catch can output you can add a filter and vent to atmosphere? and remove/blank off the Hockey puck?
Can I delete the PCV strait to atmosphere ?
Gay music, lots of talk not much of informative content. Sounds about right 👍
Thanks for watching buddy 😀
Wooow actually didn’t expect that coming 😂👌🏽 appreciate mate ❤️❤️
Haha well done mate and cheers for the support! 👌
BWTV always here brother ❤️ also I hit ya up on insta 👌🏽
Where did you get the charge pipe intercooler pipes at? I need those exact ones
They were custom made, I don't think he makes them anymore
So.. when are you getting yourself a front bumper splitter?🤨😉
One day I promise 😂
at 4.48 the small pipe you mention , do you just cap that off many thanks and then other 2 go to catch can then outlet of the catch can to the pcv valve (hockey puck) thanks
Bro. Quick question. It's a creation Motorsport catch can right? Did it come with any tubing/hose?
Hey bro great videos you know if the same procedure is if I have a AWP ENGINE CODE
HI mate, get rid of that stock TIP and get one of CM, had mine on about 3 years no probs more suck woooosh bang
Was that just a universal catch can or one build specifically for the car?
Hi Brad! I'm doing this on my TT mk1, I think same engine since mine is a 1.8 turbo. In your GTI, are you still having n249 valve?
I have that same catch can. how did you mount that bracket on?
Hi, its necesary remove that valve "T" to inlet in the factory configuration?
Have you still got the car ?
omg that intro was sooo funny 🤣🤣
You got your inlet and outlet the wrong way round a believe. Unless they have updated the catchcan
Is the inlet the side with the baffles on? So the tubing from the inlet manifold and rocker cover would go to the baffles side?
Which direction is the flow going
So glad I managed to buy the last of the other style of sticker. Just got the car washed so I'll put it next to my itsLeeLockwood sticker at some point this week!
Awesome man! Appreciate the support 👍😁
Hi, nice video!!! May I keep the PCV valve?
Next mod: white line rear anti roll bar
You’re welcome👍🏻
good job mate, cheeky little pops at the end i see you hahah
I just wanted to say I love your videos for some reason :D
I got a mk4 myself but just the 1.6 one as insurance would absolutely murder me with a 1.8
I know the feeling, had to wait for the right time to afford the insurance on my 1.8t 😣
Hola
Hola Seniòrs
I'm sorry but whats the point of a oil catch can? xD
Nephrosis basically it catches all the vapours and oil drops (gunky yellow stuff that clogs up pipes) and no longer need to clean the throttle body 😁
5 head
This video needs renaming to HOW TO BODGE ON A CATCH CAN AND I CLEARLY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IM DOING WITH ANY FORM OF MECHANICS!!!
Perfect 👌
Nice job where can I get the pcv t peace and elbow?
ebay amazon parts store
have you tried google?
another video I haven't been notified about... -.-
J jamie 😢 that's annoying
Second
1st like shout out
Wooow actually didn’t expect that coming 😂👌🏽 appreciate mate ❤️❤️
Great explanation mate good job!
Exhausted Cheers man!
Where did you get your rear bumper from?
Second hand from someone 👍
BWTV immediately after I commented I watched the bumpers video 🤪
do you need an occ on a new car?
Not entirerly sure I would hope technology has increased so they don't need one 👌
No. Catch cans are for catching oil & vapours that seep past your piston rings after you put a lot of wear on your engines, that's called blow by. New engines, less mileage, less wear, won't have very much blow by and won't require a catch can.
SPC tshirt 🙌🏻 😝
Dan Combes 😄 Repping!
Love your videos bro, keep it up!
Thank you man!
Nice video.
Second break booster line isn't needed. Just cut but keep the inline valve (you will see it) if you follow the line there is another valve but two is better than one so keep both.
andrew wright yeah I thought as much 👌
BWTV remember that connection on the underside of the manifold if something like 8mm and not 4mm like the rest. I cut that pipe coming off of it like 4cm from the manifold and bunged it with a bolt and clip. Held for year and half with no issues.
Do u think about maybe doing a supercharge on your gti
Boris Why would he do that when it already has a turbo. Just get a bigger turbo. Makes way more power than a supercharger.
Shona i know but theres different pros of a supercharger and idk
Shona just interested to see what a supercharged gti would be like
Boris No harm to Brad but I don't think he has the money to undertake a project like that
Shona and also i thought supercharger are cheaper and easier to install and then he could sell the turbo idk
Wooow actually didn’t expect that coming 😂👌🏽 appreciate mate ❤️❤️
