After 14 years running a one-man shop, I sold off all my modern crap and bought a '93 W250 with a Cummins & 5-speed. Couldn't be happier! I gladly gave up comfort, power, and handling / speed for RELIABILITY and EASY maintenance & repairs.
I have a 7.3 with over 670 k on the truck and it still pulls like a train . Best motor ever . 15 years I have had the truck . Still like the day I bought it . Best truck ever .!!!!!
In my opinion the Cummins 5.9, 24 valve combines the legendary durability of this engine with a touch of refinement. Been driving mine for almost nineteen years. The longer I own it, the more I appreciate and want to keep going. Just the best.
2003 , 3500 , 4X4 , 5.9 , 6 speed standard, 4 door and 8 foot box the ultimate power wagon . 354,000 kms and in for all new injectors as one was defective. I get 23 mpg just bumming around, awesome truck.
I bought a 1999 Dodge 2500 CTD with the ISB in it brand new. It ate three $2000 VP pumps. I sold it and now have a 1995 with a 12 valve 6BT. I hear the hot ticket now is take the ISB, throw the VP pump out and put the 6BT P Pump on with the adapter kit.
@, keep her on the road. These old girls will outlast any of this new garbage. These old trucks can be fully rebuilt for far cheaper than the cost of a new truck. Plus these old trucks are just plain cooler than the new crap.
So basically consolidated diesel hit the pinnacle in 1984 when Tenneco and Cummins decided to engineer greatness. 3.9, 5.9, and 8.3s just seem to be everywhere, just working away, clocking up the hours. 2 stroke Detroits did a lot for America in the 60s and 70s, but Cummins sure left a big mark on diesel history.
A 1997 F series Super Duty (F450) with the 7.3 Powerstroke was the best truck I ever had hauling a 10 ft camper and pulling a 3 horse trailer, in the mountains......smoothest running engine I ever had and all the power needed, got the job done for over 15 years, no problems, with reg maintainence.
I got my 2006 cummins 5.9 IL turbo diesel on may of that same year and today after 200k miles and still running strong and super reliable I can report that this engine is indeed the kind of all engines. T6 Rotella oil and Baldwin fuel filter is my to go for regular maintenance. This truck will ride me to retirement age for sure. Still original injectors and transmission!! 🤙🇺🇸Cummins 5.9 rules!!!
The Cummins 5.9 gets some bad press for oil leaks, noise, and some turbo issues, but in 40 years of truck leasing and medium duty sales, in my opinion is is one of the best engines ever produced. Cheap to maintain, cheaper to operate, NO electronics, and if it was in a proper application, I'd seen some at 400k miles still running strong!
Not sure about the 7.3, but I've had a '96, '99 and now a 2006 5.9 Cummins since new, and all three wngines have been able to outlast 3 or 4 trucks. I've seen guys driving these and the truck is falling apart around an engine that still purrs like a kitten and works like a Clydesdale. If you stay on top of the maintenance, these engines will basically run forever pre emissions / EGR.
It’s tied on the 5.9 and 7.3 in my opinion but then it goes down to the trans and then the stability of the body/chassi and with both the 5.9 and the 7.3 having there own issues in the trans the 7.3 takes the win in my opinion with the body not rattling apart
I have a 92 Dodge 250 club cab 4x4 with a 5.9 Cummins. I bought it in 95 and it has a million km. So far changed a starter and an alternator. Gets 25 mpg. 14-19 trailering. I also have a 92 Fleetwood 35’ class A Motorhome with the 5.9. Super motor. Gets up to 18 mpg. They’ve been good to me. Noisy in a truck, quiet back in a pusher.
I heard a genetics company rep talking about their turbo Cummings ram truck used for delivering breeding stock with over a million Km on it and it was still going strong at the time.
Daily driving my 7.3L SD and it's better than when it came off the factory floor. Wouldn't trade it for the world. Now if they would just have made transmissions with the gears they have today, it would be unstoppable. The transmission (especially the auto's), is the least reliable thing about it. From what I've heard the 6 speed manual helps a lot, but a proper automatic with 7-10 gears would put all others out of business. ;-)
I have a '99 Dodge Ram 3500 with the 24 valve 5.9 liter Cummins Turbo and a 5 speed manual transmission. I get just over 20 mpg. I figure that's pretty good for a truck that weighs more than 7000 pounds empty.
Brother, I’m a 34 year GM tech at a dealership. Diesel retired recently, but the Duramax is the worst diesel engine ever made for the pin in the crankshaft or constantly breaking crankshaft constantly breaking camshaft in the new six cylinder Duramax diesel with the small time and chain in the back of the motor it is a total disaster so no Duramax should not even be in your lineup.
I have a 2005 Cummins with 980000 miles. I will be driving it for a very long time. There is no way I will buy a new diesel with emissions on it. They are junk.
How about a review on 4cyl diesel 2.8 duramax ? And other makes . Here's my review...2021 chev Colorado zr2 2.8 turbo brought it brand new for my retirement present best milage to date 120500km 5.9 ltrs pr 100 km , i average 3ltrs under per 100 km suggested 10.2 hwy / 12.6 city . It gets all proper mtnce and oil changes as pr mfg instructions. Now that ive passed 120,000.km oil change is aprox 12,000 km What a great investment i made with this truck , i dont think ill ever part with it. Almost forgot my best milage was 1134 km on an 87ltr tank and when i gilled up i still had 2.7 ltrs in the tank .
Had a 24 valve in a05 ram 3500 sold it with over 300,000 and it is still running strong now I have a 5th gen 6.7 we will see if it makes it to the 300,000 mark like my old one
Original owner of a 2005 Cummins paired with the G56 6 speed and 456 rear end. Best truck I’ve had in my 62 years and I hope to be buried in it. (In 20 or 30 years)
1. 5.9 6BT 89-98 12v w/manuel Trans but was put on the worst body pick ever. 2. 7.3 power stroke put on the best body pick ever. 3. 5.9 24v again not a good body pick up. 4. 6.6 Duramax LBZ put on a good looking body pick up. After these you make your pick between the newer models on GM, Ram and Ford
The Ford 6.7 has problems, one is the CP4 pump that Ford needs to do away with. The CP4 blows up sending metal shavings in the fuel system which everything in the fuel system gets replaced.Ford has a class action lawsuit against them on this. The aftermarket has a kit to remove this pump and replace it with something else. The 1989 to 1998 5.9 Cummins, killer dowl pin and this is a real easy fix. Sell a kit to fix it and you can make it by making a plate with a hole in it for the inner timing cover bolt to secure it in
European diesels have some pretty sweet offerings, they just aren’t common enough in North America, nor are they regularly offered in passenger vehicles and pick ups. Duetz, Sisu, Scania, all have some pretty reliable offerings, but are mostly off road
Some of them on Balkan change ewend three shells of truck,,,I help to neibor in montage end ader..,5 years ewend in werry cool time by night worck good,,,end by word of last owner its on some 1,9 million km...naw ewend more ..But after some plumbrandy the driwing ,,is off....

5.9,unlimited performance upgrades, makes it the king of the hill. Nothing else compares😊
I have a 7.3 with over 670 k on the truck and it still pulls like a train . Best motor ever . 15 years I have had the truck . Still like the day I bought it . Best truck ever .!!!!!

Same here I’ve had mine I bought it new in 2006 and wouldn’t trade it for anything

5.9 with an Allison in an F350. You got the ultimate pick up
Has to be the 5.9 12v
625,000 miles on my 03 cummins. never missed a beat
just hit 400,000 in my 03 it just keeps getting better.
Love my 2003 5.9 Cummins... no def needed. Pulls like a steam locomotive.
Somebody didn’t do their research. The 5.9L cummins and 7.3L powerstrokr are 1 and 2. Which is what spot is up for debate.
I agree. 589,000 miles on my 96 7.3 and running strong.

5.9 Cummins is the standard that every other is compared with
#1 Pick 7.3 #2 5.9

A 5.9 cummins will still be runnin after the end of time 😂
My 96 12 valve 5.9 is still running strong. Mind you it sits with the fifth wheel and has a whopping 135,000 km’s on it. Almost showroom condition.
I have the 2003 dodge 2500 in 5.9 with the 6 speed. Love it. I only have 113400 miles on it.
I think you got the order wrong, the 7.3 and the 5.9 should be numbers 1 and 2.
My old 2000 7.3 still going strong today
I agree. I own both but I think it should be 5.9 then very very close the 7.3. Love them both!
Older technology, with low power!
Not sure about the 7.3, but I've had a '96, '99 and now a 2006 5.9 Cummins since new, and all three wngines have been able to outlast 3 or 4 trucks. My 1978 KT600 I put 0ver 3 million miles on it before I sold it,it was inframed 3 times over 900k each time I had a 350 cummins last forever also😊
I liked my 5.9 24 valve
Mine has 408k and runs like new.
I love mine. 290 thousands and it just keeps on pulling.
I bought my Dodge Ram in 1999 and my 5.9 Cummins blew by all the other Diesels on the road. Yes, it is LOUD - my muffler guy laughs when I pull up.
No diesel engine with emissions should be on this list.
I have a 92 Dodge 250 club cab 4x4 with a 5.9 Cummins. I bought it in 95 and it has a million km. So far changed a starter and an alternator. Gets 25 mpg. 14-19 trailering.

7.3 natural breather and the early 7.3 powerstroke
my 1991 5.9 cumimun has 1.3 million mile same motor . running strong today

2016 LML, love it, except for the regen event.
Wrong order 1 and 1a would be 7.3 Powerstroke and 12v Cummins. Amen!!
...what about Caterpillar?
The only 2 you got correct were the 5.9 cummins and the 7.3 navistar. So where is the DT466? or is this only a light truck video.
How about a review on 4cyl diesel 2.8 duramax ? And other makes .

Had a 99 first generation 24 valve racked up $250,000 me never had the valve cover off of it I miss it to this day bought it brand new
How many of these diesels are medium-duty diesels? Light-duty diesels are not typically rebuildable.
Had a 24 valve in a05 ram 3500 sold it with over 300,000 and it is still running strong now I have a 5th gen 6.7 we will see if it makes it to the 300,000 mark like my old one
my 5.9 422k it will outlast me.
Take the 5.9 Dodge diesel every time then the Ford 7.3
Original owner of a 2005 Cummins paired with the G56 6 speed and 456 rear end. Best truck I’ve had in my 62 years and I hope to be buried in it. (In 20 or 30 years)
I like engines i don't have to pull the cab on to work on.
Isn’t it pull the cab or pull the engine for many things? My mechanic said he would rather pull the cab……
1. 5.9 6BT 89-98 12v w/manuel Trans but was put on the worst body pick ever.
2. 7.3 power stroke put on the best body pick ever.
3. 5.9 24v again not a good body pick up.
4. 6.6 Duramax LBZ put on a good looking body pick up.
After these you make your pick between the newer models on GM, Ram and Ford
5.9 second gem Cummins is one of Bested from 1994 to 1998
93 Cummins 4x4 5 speed manual with 565000km
I have owned for 16 years.
It’s such a part of the family my wife won’t let me sell it!
Heavy weight boxer/ballet dancer THE SPINKS BROTHERS!!!!

Turbo Diesel! Ford! Glenn
I like the Mercedes diesel engines too.

@@brianschryver8314 the Japanese makers produce great diesels as well, like the Toyota Hilux diesels 300 k miles not uncommon.
6.7 ford/no, 5.9 cummins/12valve, yes........7.3 best on this list......
The Duramax with a CP3 conversion deleted is the way to go
Well, you got 3 out of the 5 correct...
Yes!!!
Not my cummins 😂😂😂😂
Yeppers dude's
6.7 Lmao better change the turbo before 400k km
Any of the new diesels are only one time use. Unless you have deeper pockets and less brains for the everyday man
This guy got creative with his words the 6.7 ford is a piece of garbage the latest versions don't last past 200,000 MI
😂

First the 6.7 junk
The Ford Diesel engine is great, the problem is everything around the engine fails!
Ford ? Are you kidding ? Junk.
Forever is a long time seeing how these engines are brand new kind of hard to make a statement like that don't you think?
