My Ford (International) 6.9 in an '87 F250 worked hard, hauled a trailer 13,000 lb payload, did woods road and Interstate equally well. No major repairs. Two rebuilds to fuel return system, one injector pump, one fuel pump, added one in-line water separator filter (Stanadyne) and used Castrol Diesel oil, 20 mpg+ at age. 187,000 faithful miles, half at hard work. I would consider another F250, if it had the same power plant under the hood.

I have a 1993 Chevy Silverado 1500 with a 5.7L TBI engine with 300K miles. I haven’t had any problems with the engine, even when pulling a trailer with 1,000 pounds on it. Sometimes vehicle owners are the number one problem, they don’t maintain their vehicles.

5:15. They did it right with the 2.2, no collisions. They just had to screw it up on the 2.5.

5.0L V8 in my dad in laws Mercury Mountaineer blew up at 65k miles. It had its oil changed every 3k, was “babied”, but was a disaster, barely 200HP, 10 MPG on a good day, and just a dog.

Strange, I have an 87 Chevy S-10 my dad bought brand new...got it when he passed in 2011. Only had 26 k then. It has 110 k now. One fuel pump (in tank). Replaced alternator at 90 k. Normal maintenance otherwise. WTF?

With some transmission swapping my 88 with a 5.7 got 20 mpg. But because I kept the 261 rear-end it ended up breaking the overdrive in a few years. It just lugged itself to easily. It idled at 45 mph In overdrive. Was a converted 700r4 transmission. But those first three gears made it feel like a race truck.
