Before you land your airline will hand out a customs declaration form during the flight so you will need a pen.
Huatulco’s airport is small but full of charm. You’ll disembark onto the tarmac and walk into the terminal. Huatulco Airport might be small, but it’s got a surprisingly wide reach. It receives direct flights from 11 airports with airlines like Aeromexico, Air Canada, American Airlines, Viva Aerobus, Volaris, and WestJet.
Once you’re inside, it’s straight to immigration. This is where Huatulco’s smaller size works in your favor. The lines are usually short, and it’s rare for more than one plane to land at the same time. There are no fancy E-gates here-this is the old-school meet-an-immigration-officer experience. Have your passport and customs form ready, and they’ll stamp you through in no time.
From immigration, you’ll head to baggage claim.
Next stop: customs declaration. You’ll be asked to push a button, and a light will appear. Green light? You’re golden! Just pop your bags onto the scanner, and you’re on your way.
Red light? Your luggage gets inspected by hand.
After customs, you’ll follow the signs toward the exit. But before you hit the fresh air, you’ll pass through a gauntlet of people offering timeshares and transportation services.
If you’ve prearranged airport transportation or it’s included in your vacation package, your driver will be waiting outside-not inside-with a sign.
If you’re considering a cab, you’ll find them at the airport, and they’re generally reliable. Bonus: there are set prices, so no awkward haggling. But here’s a money-saving hack: airport taxis are a little pricier. If you’re feeling adventurous and don’t mind a short walk, head just off airport property to catch a cab for a better rate.
For private transfers, we’ve had great experiences with Gran Turismo and Best Huatulco Tours. Oswaldo Rojas at Gran Turismo and Alfonso Gabriel at Best Huatulco Tours have both been fantastic-safe, reliable, and easy to work with. This isn’t a sponsored shoutout, just a friendly tip because they’ve made our trips stress-free. You can find both on Facebook or through their websites.
Let’s talk about departures!
We left the resort so we arrived just over two hours before our scheduled flight departure time and it was perfect. This has been our experience. Airline counters in Huatulco can close an hour and a half before departure so I suggest going by your airline's recommendations.
Once you arrive at the airport, head to your airline’s check-in counter. This is where they’ll check your passport, verify your details, and tag your luggage for the flight home.
After you’re all checked in, follow the signs for departures.
When it’s time to head for international departures, just follow the signs into another building. This is where you’ll go through security-fairly quick and efficient at Huatulco-and then enter the air-conditioned duty-free lounge.
Inside the departures area, you’ll find plenty of seating, washrooms, a duty-free shop, and a few more spots to grab snacks or souvenirs.
If you’re a member of the global lounge network, you can also check out the airport lounge for a quieter space to relax. If you have a credit card with lounge access it is for Priority Pass, Diners Club International, Lounge Key, Lounge Pass. Or you can pay for 4 hour access for $38 per person.
And that’s it! Once you’re settled, it’s just a matter of waiting for your flight. Sit back, enjoy the last bits of your Huatulco experience, and dream about your next adventure!
When it’s time to board, you’ll head back outside for one last dose of that glorious Huatulco sunshine. Walk to your plane, climb the stairs, and settle into your seat.
And that wraps up our guide to navigating the Huatulco Airport! We hope this video makes your travel day stress-free and maybe even a little fun. Another great job Nancy! After all these years, I finally hear about this place. take care
I'm so glad I could finally introduce you to Huatulco! If you want to check it out someday I suggest pricing it out in CAD on Air Canada Vacations or Westjet Vacations out of Toronto. With how strong your dollar is right now you may score a great deal! 😊
Thanks for the wonderful tutorial . I’m hoping to visit this quaint part of Mexico .
@@PeterM-l9w I really like this area is Mexico. The people are wonderful and it is much less commercial than. The typical tourist areas.
I hope you enjoy it when you get there. 😊
Hi Nancy We arrived in Huatulco yesterday on West Jet out of Toronto As you mentioned it was not busy at all. Ours was the only flight although there was a plane from the US on the ground empty. No dancers or mariachi band for us lol. We waited too long to arrange a transfer so we opted to take the walk down the road and get a taxi off the airport property The price he asked was 400 pesos but he quickly lowered it to 350. There are lots of taxis waiting there so it's very easy to find a ride. Anyways I told you I would give you the scoop on the Barcelo. To me it's a budget destination so we weren't expecting too much. There was absolutely no welcome drinks or damp towels but since the resort seems not very busy check in was fast and painless. Because it was close to 3pm our room was ready and they upgraded us to a nicer room with a partial ocean view. The resort seems very clean and well kept. The room is ok not fantastic but nice with a balcony facing the bay. A/C works well and the bed was comfortable which isn't always the case. The lobby bar was not open which was a surprise and when I asked they said it opens around 6 pm Not a good start. We were told that we were entitled to two ala cartes unless we upgraded to privilege. This seems like stepping back in time at least 10 years when all resorts had limits. The food so far is ok not great. The biggest issue is that nothing is hot. Some things are luke warm and others are actually cold Same for the breakfast buffet. Drinks are typical nothing measured dumped in a cup with ice gambles .Fortunately we are very low maintenance and not picky but if you are a foodie type you would probably not be happy here. We haven't done an ala carte but other guests we met basically warned us that the food isn't great. The staff are very friendly and the views are spectacular so for the price we paid we are ok with it .
That airport is great compared to Cancun! 😄I'm so glad to hear you are having a good experience and that the staff are friendly even though you aren't thrilled with the food! Thanks so much for telling me about Barcelo. I had a look at it from the beach when we went to the next door Dreams. I love Tangolunda Bay and the beach area.
I don't think any resort in Huatulco has good food. I think if you are a talented chef you probably make more money elsewhere.
Very very wise to adjust your expectations based on the budget. Many people don't do that and then forget that 'you get what you pay for'.
I hope you have a great last couple of days and enjoy the sunshine. It is damp and cold back home so soak in all you can get!
Thanks again for sharing! 🥂 🙂
Very helpful, thankyou!
@@joshuanbray Happy to help! Enjoy your trip 😊
Thank you so much for this informational video! We are flying into Huatulco in a few months so we really appreciate the info. We have been to Mexico once before on the other side of the country, and the process is about the same. I was wondering if you know reliable transportation up to Puerto Angel? That's where we are headed. Thanks again!
@@veronicacollopy8798 Thank you so much. I'm glad you found the video helpful.
Puerto Angel! 😃 That looks like a lovely spot on the coast. I haven't been there yet but it is on my list. 😊
I would recommend reaching out to the two companies that I mentioned in the video. Alphonso at "Best Huatulco Tours" and Oswaldo at "Grand Turismo". I find it easiest to reach them via FB but you can also ask about a quote on their websites.
We have used both and they are safe, reliable, and they speak English well.
Taxis are also an option. They are controlled, safe and readily available (unlike Cancun!) but they don't all have air conditioning.
I hope this helps a bit. Have a wonderful time! ☺️
@ thank you!!
@veronicacollopy8798 Happy to help
Hi, Nancy, new subscriber here. 🇨🇦 Great video! Thank you! We’re in Huatulco now (and loving it!) but am starting to be concerned about our trip home to YVR. I haven’t travelled since pre-Covid so am a bit behind with new regs regarding Mexican tourist cards. We filled out the customs form onboard and handed it in when we arrived but I don’t think we got anything back! Don’t we need it to leave HUX? Getting mixed messages from online sources but I know you’ll have reliable info. Please help!
Hi! I hope you are having a great trip!
I would not be concerned at all, if I were you. We were just there in November. We filled out and submitted the customs card we received on board our flight. Gave it to customs on the way out and we never got anything back from them.
We never needed to show anything for our return at the airline counter. Just our passports.
We landed back into YYZ, scanned our passports and all was good. 😊
The old tourists card often had a small perforated section at the bottom that they asked you to keep and return upon departure. That is no longer the case at most Mexican airports.
Enjoy the sunshine!! 😀
Omgoodness! Thank you so, so much! You don’t know how many different stories I’ve been told! I will stop worrying so much and get back to enjoying this beautiful part of Mexico! Feliz Navidad!
I’ve been to Mexico several times and you primarily only hand the declaration form coming into Mexico but I’ve had anxious moments just like you
