New Travel Escapes

We are not travel agents and we have been traveling to all-inclusive resorts for more than 17 years. We decided to learn how to put videos about our travels on UA-cam in order to pay it forward, if you will.
We strive to give you informational videos about the places we stay and the things we do so that you can make a more informed decision about whether it may or may not be right for you. Vacation time and money is not easy to come by and it is precious. We hope to give you the information we wished we had known before we booked a resort, hotel, or anything to do with a vacation.
We really value our subscribers, and we hope that if you find any of our videos helpful in planning your next vacation you would consider subscribing to our channel.
We pay for our own trips, we never tell the resorts we make videos, and our opinions are based on our honest experience.

DELPHINUS Dolphin Experience in PUERTO MORELOS: Location, Prices, Water and More! Know Before You Go
This video is for informational purposes only. Our opinions are our own based on our experience. We are not sponsored and we pay for all of our own trips and experiences.
Delphinus offers several packages to suit a variety of preferences at different price points. .
It is open to most ages and abilities but you must be 1 m tall and children under 8 must have an accompanying and paying adult.
Everyone is required to wear a life jacket.
Remember that time in the water with the dolphins is divided among your group. A 30-minute session with 10 people means each person has very limited individual interaction time. Smaller groups or private sessions might be worth considering if you want a more intimate experience.
One thing Delphinus emphasizes is their commitment to ocean wildlife conservation. Their programs aim to educate visitors about marine ecosystems and the role we play in protecting them. Before anyone enters the water, you’ll attend an informational class that covers water safety and how to interact with the dolphins responsibly. You’ll also be required to rinse off in their showers to remove any chemicals, like non-reef-safe sunscreen, that could harm the dolphins.
Delphinus provides a range of amenities to make your visit more comfortable, including lockers, showers, towels, dressing rooms, a snack shop, and a photo store to capture your special moments. There’s also a gift shop with souvenirs to remember your experience. If you’re not participating in the water activities but want to watch, there are comfortable lounge chairs with large umbrellas for shade.
Unfortunately, you can’t bring your phone or camera into the enclosure. Delphinus offers personalized photo services for a fee-which, let’s be honest, can add up quickly. While these photos are high-quality, keep the additional cost in mind when planning your budget.
Now, let’s talk about what it’s really like. While the website showcases crystal-clear water, the reality was a little different. The enclosures had murkier water with some seaweed.
During our package, the group stood on a submerged dock while the dolphins performed tricks directed by the instructors. A standout moment was the one-on-one time with the dolphins. Whether it was a dorsal fin ride or a water push, this was a once-in-a-lifetime experience for most people in our group, and they were deeply grateful for the chance to interact with these majestic creatures.
It’s worth noting that opinions in our group varied on the ethics of keeping dolphins in captivity. Personally, I’m not a fan of captivity, but I appreciate that Delphinus collaborates with universities and focuses on education and conservation. I also appreciate their work with children with Autism and how Dolphin therapy. Their efforts aim to inspire people to care for the ocean and its inhabitants.
If you have ethical concerns, there are alternatives to consider where Dolphins are in not in captivity.
Delphinus does offer a shuttle service for around $10 per person, depending on your location. BUT you can only book transportation for those participating in the experience. Those in your group who only want to observe are not eligible for the transportation so may want to arrange your own transportation if you have someone who just wants to watch the dolphins.

I’ll admit when I saw this I instantly felt my rage skip up about these dolphin jails getting more press time. I did watch it through because of how much I sincerely appreciate all of the content you have created. I do very much appreciate your approach to offer other options to encounter these magnificent creatures in the wild instead of captivity. I really hope that info that there are other alternatives that do not involve captivity will nudge someone to realize this is not the only option. If people didn’t patronize these facilities, they would simply go out of business and be a non-issue.
@@EmptyPocketsCarl I agree and I much prefer encounters without cages. I appreciate the programs for those with autism and I appreciate the fact that people often pay attention to their choices when they have a personal encounter but I don't like captivity. The whale shark snorkeling in the same area is much better! No captivity just observation.
@@newtravelescapes I too appreciate helping those with autism - but we have lots and lots of lovable dogs for that. No reason at all to have to cage dolphins for that purpose.
@EmptyPocketsCarl I totally agree.
Hi Nancy Im not a big fan of keeping dolphins in captivity either. We stayed at the dreams in Puerto Aventuras a few years ago and there were dolphins at the resort. One morning I was standing on the walkway by the dolphin area and a dolphin swam up and started tossing a basket ball to me with its nose. There was no one around because it was early so I started playing fetch with it. I felt really bad for the dolphin afterwards. Anyway we just got back from our two week trip at Allegro in Playacar and Ocean Maya Royale. Ocean Maya is still great. Its a good deal for the price we paid. Nothing high end but the staff is always great and the food is good. Most of the staff has been there since our first visit 8 years ago including Poncho the cat who lives at the Italian ala carte. The beach is not great in front of the resort but its not the worst I have seen. The wind and waves were starting to bring in the sargassum so if anyone is planning a trip to the area be aware
@@howardgarrett7865 That sounds both lovely and heart breaking. I totally agree. I am not a fan of dolphins in captivity. I much prefer the experience where the dolphins are free and they can choose to interact with visitors if they want.
Our First Visit to ECM was in 2016 and we'll be visiting again next January. We've been once before and really enjoyed our Junior Swim Up Suite, so much so that we'll get them over anything else. Our favorite Excellence resort is Oyster Bay, been there three times, but no Swim Up Suites there unfortunately. The rooms there with the separate pools just aren't the same. Luckily everything there is so close together at that resort that it doesn't really matter much. Great review! I'm really looking forward to exploring ECM again!
@@paulfox3532 Thanks for your input. 😊 My favourite rooms are the swim ups onto the club pool but I think all the rooms are very good. Have an amazing trip!!
I have a question. My passport is valid for 180 days from my arrival at the Cancun airport however it will not be valid for 180 days for my departure back to Canada. Will I still be able to use e gates?
@@jeffchoma8677 Hi! As far as I know, the rule is based on your arrival date. That is my interpretation of it anyway. I think you should be fine but you could message your airline to confirm. I hope you have a great trip! 😊
@newtravelescapes do you know if you have to use the e gates on the way back or have your passport checked? Or is the departure procedure different on a return flight
@jeffchoma8677 Yes your airline will check your passport when you check-in for your return flight. NO Egates to go through. Just the standard airport security checks of liquids and gels etc. You will do immigration and Customs when you return to your home airport.
Can you go into the ocean at any of these 3 El CID resorts?
For sure you can! It is a bit rocky in spots and there is Sargassum. The beach in front of vantus is less rocky. A bit more rocky closer to the Marina. 😊
Is this resort or inclusive?
@@Crespofutbol all-inclusive 😊
We are heading there the first week in March. I know we are going peak time compounded by short notice so I think we pretty much paid full price but really wanted to check it out based upon yours and others reviews, so we bit the bullet. If we like it, we may try a couple of their other resorts with more advance planning. What times of the year are less busy and maybe better pricing but still have nice temperatures for swimming and not too hot or humid? Also , I've read that the pools are only heated at certain times of the year or maybe some not at all (which is crazy for the price). Do you know if the pools would be typically heated when we go? I've also heard seaweed can be a problem at certain times of the year. Lastly, this is the first time we are going to an all-inclusive resort, our friends who have been to others said that while the food quality varies all the resorts water down their drinks, is that true? Thanks and really like your reviews.
You picked a great time to go! The first week of March is usually a nice time being not too cool but not overly humid. You'll be right in the middle of the "shoulder season," and personally, I tend to prefer both shoulder seasons. Summer is really warm and December has decent temperatures but the pools are cold. ERC only heats the club pool. And even then it isn't turned on early enough. They tell me the accessible pool is also heated but I have never experienced it being turned on. Ever. I totally agree for the price the pools should all be climate controlled. It's ridiculous that they are not. March should be good though so I wouldn't be concerned. ERC food is well above average most meals being great. I have never experienced a watered down drink from them. I do prefer to name the licor I want in the drink so rather than saying a gin and tonic I ask specifically for a Tanqueray and tonic. All Resorts don't water down the drinks. Some cheaper resorts might but higher end ones don't. I have seen that they will cut back portions to guests who are clearly inebriated and disturbing other guests but that is not a regular practice or at least not at the resorts we have been to. I am so glad to hear you like our reviews. Thank you so much! We have booked to be at both Excellence properties in Punta Cana in May so I'll make videos about those ones and see how they compare. We haven't booked the new Excellence Coral. It is just SO expensive that I'm going to wait until prices adjust a bit. I hope this helps a bit. Have a wonderful vacation!!! I hope you like ERC as much as we do. It is definitely one of my favourites.😊
I am using Odigoo. I am surprised that is not on your list.
Thanks for the wonderful tutorial . I’m hoping to visit this quaint part of Mexico .
@@PeterM-l9w I really like this area is Mexico. The people are wonderful and it is much less commercial than. The typical tourist areas. I hope you enjoy it when you get there. 😊
How do the restraints on these properties compare to the other restaurants at all inclusive resorts you’ve tried in Mexico?
@@PGopal-g8w I would say they are mid tier. Finest, Excellence properties, Unico 20 87, Iberostar Joia etc. are better but cost a lot more. In terms of other resorts at the same price point I would rank Ventus Ha' higher for restaurant quality. 😊
Music too loud
@@Omikoshi78 Thanks for the input
Wow immigration is chaos.
It certainly can be. The earlier your flight lands the better, in my experience.
My wife and I were there last August and had a magnificent time. I can't say enough good about this place, from the Excellence Club pool side room, to the restaurants to the staff, all was over the top. We loved it so much, we are going back this August and staying a full week this time instead of 3 nights like last year. HIGHLY RECOMMEND
@@deemacha1962 It is definitely one of my favourites. It's expensive but you do get what you pay for at ERC. Thanks for sharing! Enjoy a full week. It is even better. 🍹😀

Hi, We have booked this property for our stays. I am traveling with my parents who are 70years old. I just want to know if there are steep stairs or hikes in resorts to room or restaurant where my parents would be uncomfortable?
@@VIJAYKUMAR-vs5vb Hi! The resort is built into a hill so all of the walkways are fairly steep but they have golf carts to pick you up from your room. Just call and they'll be there in a few minutes. There are stairs to the rooms on the higher floors so maybe request the ground floor. There is also one flight of stairs to the restaurant. So, Utilize the golf carts, request a ground floor room, and if they can do a flight of stairs with a railing to the restaurant you should be good. 😊 Hope that helps a bit. It is a fantastic property. I hope you have a wonderful trip. 😀
I am Australian. While I do not think this is the worst airport, the staff are very shouty unnecessarily - I get security is a thankless job but shouting at passengers stresses them.
@@leannebree2459 I travel a fair bit and I live in Toronto. Sadly, I am always disappointed travelling in and out of YYZ. We could be doing so much better. We were through Sydney and Melbourne airports last year and they felt a lot more civilized and less chaotic. 😊
lol, what is the level of IQ of your target audience? Greetings from Europe 😂 omg this is hilarious.
Not a matter of IQ at all. Many travellers are very nervous going through an airport and many have never done it before or only once or twice in a lifetime. It is very easy to live in North America and never leave your home country because it is so big so videos like this help alleviate some stress which is always a good thing. 😊
I went to the site the airline has listed, I filled out the information asked and was directed to payment. The amount DUE was $271.00 USD how is this possible? I did not pay it, however, it has my information. My flight departs in a week how should I preside? Thank you for your help.
@@dukeman7595 I would expect that the price is in MXN not USD. If it were me, I would contact my airline and ask them directly what is going on with the link they sent you and get confirmation that it is in pesos not USD.
@@newtravelescapes Thank you for your reply. I will check with them and do some more research. Question: Can I pay the tax once in cancun prior to departure or is it best to do before? I don't want to get scammed on line. I very much appreciate your help.
@dukeman7595 I pay it the day before we leave from home. I don't like using the wifi to pay and input my passport info in another country, but that is just my personal preference. I wait until the day before because if I have to cancel for an emergency I can't get a refund. ☺️ Travelkore has a good chat button for help if your airline isn't helpful but I would start with your airline first and get a proper explanation for what is going on. The gob.mx website should be charging in MXN.
@@newtravelescapes Thank you again, you have been very helpful. P.S. I subscribed.
@dukeman7595 Thanks! I'm happy to help. Lmk how it works out. I hope you have a fantastic trip! 😊
Can you opt out of the face scan?
@@LordgivemetheStrength Only if you go through the regular immigration lines. Then they scan your passport.
I just got back a few days ago. Your videos flawlessly took me through the airport! Many people were confused by the E-Gates and went to the larger lines like sheep that didn't know better. The E-Gate line was 3 min and we ignored everyone through the shark tank and taxi area right to AmStar. We had a lady approach us posing as a rep for AmStar and offered us $300usd to listen to a time share pitch but I directly told her "I dont care if its $1000usd...NOT INTERESTED!" @@howardgarrett7865 Oh thank you so much Howard! You made my day. ☺️ Are you back at Ocean Maya? It is on my list to try that resort based on your comments about it. I also want to get to Akumal Beach and Wellness. I have no idea what that resort is doing to keep its ratings as high as they are. Have a wonderful trip! We are heading into a cold snap that I'm sure you'll be happy to miss. Lol! 😀
@newtravelescapes we are at Allegro in Playacar for this week It's a budget option for sure but the grounds are beautiful and the beach is nice. We will take a taxi to Ocean Maya next week Ocean Maya is our favorite but it's not a high end resort by any means The food is decent and the rooms are very basic but we find the staff to be very friendly and we like the wildlife there. Deer and lots of Coatis so if you don't like them beware lol
Sounds like a fun trip😊! I don't know much about Allegro. Sounds like it is a good bang for your buck. When we were at Hyatt we wandered over to Ocean Maya and the guests we spoke to agreed with you that the staff and facilities keep them coming back. Seems like a very good option, especially with how expensive resorts have gotten in the last few years. 😮 Enjoy your vacay. I would love to hear all about it if you feel like sharing.
Have you seen the people who fell in the water with animals. That water looks very disgusting and looks like it it filled with brain eating amoeba.
No I haven't seen that. Sounds gross. 🥴
Great video. Haven't been to Cancun since before COVID and that e-gate is great to know.
@@sharonsauro567 Thanks! 🙂 The Egates do tend to streamline things a bit better these days but it is still a busy airport. Enjoy your trip! ☺️
Thank you for this outstanding video this will certainly help on our choice of location!
@@MrRadicalsheep Thank you so much! 😊I'm glad you found it helpful! Have fun planning your vacation. 🙂
I tried to book 2 nights at this hotel, but it didn't let me, you can only make reservations from 3 nights onwards
@@ivanvargas6590 You're right! I've never stayed for a short visit and I really don't know why they have this policy. You could call and maybe they have ways to make an exception but I don't know much about it. The FB fan groups might have some better details about booking a shorter stay.
Super helpful, thankyou!
@@joshuanbray my pleasure! 😊
We’re here now from USA for 6 days. When we leave do we just present the ticket that the E-Gate popped out? Or do we have to scan the QR code and print the forms? I saved the forms to my phone in PDF
@@kevinm6762 I tried to do the forms using the QR for our last trip and they didn't work so I just kept the form in my passport, available if someone asked for it or if I needed to do it at the airport. No one ever asked for it. I assume that may change at some time but that was what happened for us. I hope you have a fantastic week!!! 😊
Booked with Canadian Transfers
Excellent video and explanation of the Visitax. The details you provide enable the traveler to easily comply to the tax with easy to follow instructions to websites. Thanks again. Peter

wish you covered more about the pools....are they heated or are they cold in the winter?
@@mustclime5311 As far as I know, the Excellence Club pools are heated in winter. The regular pools are not (or if they are, they are not turned on high enough). And the pools for the suites are not heated.
Has anyone used the free airport shuttle from moon palace resort ?
@@ianiianiian3313 Sorry, we haven't.
OK me again comma one last question as I get to the end of your interesting video about the food and bars at secrets What would you say would be the most affordable room for a single adult guy like myself and my 60s I don’t need anything fancy just clean and quiet Your comments and information is greatly appreciated Steve
Hi Steve! Honestly, whichever room is the least expensive. There is so little difference between the majority of the rooms that a hot tub room will work. The views aren't as good because they are on the ground floors. BUT I have often found that an Jr. Suite King on the second or third floor can (sometimes) come in for the same price so then, I like the better views with that one because I'm not going to use the hot tub. I'm not willing to pay for the preferred club at Secrets Huatulco, for myself. Booking as a single can sometimes feel like a rip off. I don't know what country you live in but when I travel by myself I use travel companies that offer 'solo traveller' pricing. In Canada, I find the best rates when travelling by myself from Air Transat's "solo collection". I can often find a good all-inclusive resort without having to pay those ridiculous single supplement charges. They don't yet fly to Huatulco unfortunately but if you're flexible with your destination you might find a good deal. That being said in all of our trips we have found the guests at Secrets Huatulco friendly and welcoming for the most part and it is an easy resort at which to socialize. ☺️ Hope that helps a bit.
PS you mentioned room service. Is that part of the all-inclusive or extra? Appreciate your information
It's included ☺️

It is included and you can order it from the app. A handy system 😁
Hello, my name is Steve and I live in Sonoma county northern California just north of San Francisco I’ve been watching your videos on Hautulco, and secrets resort and they’re very informative. Thank you. I’m watching the one now about all the restaurants and I have a question about beverages, alcohol, alcoholic beverages Are beer and wine, margaritas, and things like that included in your stay price Thanks
Hi! Yeppers! They are all included with your room rate. 😊 Beer, wine, cocktails, soft drinks pretty much everything except the fancy stuff from the extra wine list is included. To be honest when you are used to wine from Sonoma Valley the wines at Secrets won't measure up. Lol! Also all your food from the restaurants, room service, snacks etc are also included. If something has an extra charge there will usually be a price next to it. Basically, you can enjoy all the food and drinks you feel like included in the room rate. The only extra costs you will have are some tipping pesos. Just a pro tip. You may have an easier time getting to Huatulco by flying up into Vancouver Canada first. Then direct with Air Canada or Westjet to HUX. With the dollar being where it's at you can probably save a fair bit of $ too. 😊

Hi Steve! I think I answered your question already but I'm happy to help if I missed something. 😊
Fantastic and informative. Thank you so much. Only 1 question please, in all the reviews, I hardly saw any one swimming in the ocean, is it that kind that you can’t ?!
@@Al-xz5wz Thank you! You definitely can swim in the ocean and I do enjoy it but it does get deep quickly and it can be a bit rough depending on the weather. If you walk down the beach a bit toward that Secrets Beach area I showed in the full review video the swimming and snorkeling is much better in that area. The rocks off the coast keep it calmer. Feel free to ask any questions you like. If I know the answer I'm happy to help. 😊
@ Thank you so much for your fast reply. Yes 👍 I saw it in your previous review. Of course I will see your reviews another 10 times or so 🤓
@Al-xz5wz Just a heads up the sand in the afternoon is unbelievably hot and will literally burn the bottom of your feet.
@STEM-inist you betcha! You have to run for your soles. Lol!
Hi Nancy, thanks for sharing. We were there over New Years 17/18. Thinking about returning although there are fewer direct flights from Toronto than prior to 2020. I have since retired so can travel anytime. Is it busy December - March or hit and miss?
@@MarilynMcphail Hi Marilyn! December to March is fairly busy. We have found Air Canada flying direct on Sundays and Wednesdays and Westjet tends to fly direct on Fridays in our experience, anyway. Food hasn't gotten any better but they are currently making some suite upgrades which are long overdue and very nicely done. It is a really nice area of Mexico and the staff are really something special. 😊
12:26- I sure hope you're right regarding the E-Gates, we are still unbelievably ticked off (I'm actually being nice) with our experience last February 2024 (almost a year ago). We wanted to try them and the immigration area was extremely busy. It took an hour just to get to the serpentine rope area, at this point it's not a problem because we know it busy. There were still 100's of people behind us, some taking the old immigration (non E-gate) lines, but we went to the E-gate line. It wasn't long before one of the airport workers started taking people that were behind us in line and putting them in the front of the line. At first we thought, VIP's (?), and let it go, but then this repeated 8-10 times with good sized groups. We barely moved in line and everyone in our situation was starting to get upset and asking the guy, "Why are you doing this, we've been in this same part of the line to 35 minutes". He said "don't worry, you're on vacation" and laughed at us. By the time we finally got to the e-gates we were the last people in immigration. The 100's of people behind us had taken the old lines and were already gone. 🤬🤬🤬 Visitax: We also pay for the Visitax, for ~$13.00 US, its worth not having issues on the way home. That being said, we have never see anyone questioned regarding this. We've been traveling to Cancun for almost 2 decades and just started paying this last year and actually just paid for next month's vacation.
@@D-Allen wow! That sucks. What a crappy experience! I have seen some long lines over the years we've been travelling in and out of CUN but I've never seen or heard of that before. Yikes I find the EGates much faster and we've been using them since they brought in the very first ones BUT if they are having tech difficulties then who knows. Airport lines are always a bit of a crapshoot. We flew into T2 this past summer. There are no Egates there. We had a morning flight and when we arrived we were through and waiting for our driver in 20 minutes. I almost danced through the airport it was so delightful. 😆 Hopefully, your next trip through CUN will make up for the last one. If you arrive on weekends and mid-day it is much much busier. Enjoy your trip! 😊
@@newtravelescapes - For sure, this was the worst we've seen in 20 years and hopefully a fluke. The guy letting everyone go ahead of us way unbelievably frustrating to say the least. We'll see how it goes in a couple of weeks. Wish us luck. 😀
@D-Allen Crossing my fingers and toes for you! Think Margarita thoughts 😋
Very helpful, thankyou!
@@joshuanbray Happy to help! Enjoy your trip 😊
Which resort(s) in that Mayan Riviera area would you say has the best food?
@@joshuanbray For Adults only or Families? Honestly it mostly depends on the price you pay. The more expensive the resort the higher the quality food (usually). Adults only: best I know of are Le Blanc (best!) Excellence Riviera Cancun, Excellence Playa Mujeres, Secrets Moxche, Unico 20 87, Secrets Maroma. For Families: Finest Playa Mujeres, Atelier, Hyatt Zilara Cancun, Hyatt Zilara Riviera Maya. The above resorts are all a lot more expensive than Ventus. We enjoy most all of the food at Ventus. They do try to appeal to a broad range of palates so nothing is really 'stand out' but everything we had was good. (Except the steak which is just not the quality we are used to. It's fine but not great 😃). Overall, Ventus is better food in comparison to other resorts in the same price range, imo. Hope that helps a bit ☺️
Have you been to Barceló Huatulco?
No sorry we haven't. We have stayed next door to Barcelo at Dreams Huatulco. If you look under our Huatulco airport video in the comments one of our subscribers was telling me about he and his wife's stay at the Barcelo before Christmas.
@@newtravelescapes thankyou, very interesting, I had a read. I ask as Barcello has better ratings all across the board in comparison to Dreams and Secrets which I suspect is due to the value for money, dreams is about an extra $2,000 CAD on my 2-week stay. Both my coworkers and friends stay at Barcelo and highly recommend it. It does sound like the food isn't great at any of these resorts so It's probably a fair idea to venture into town and visit the local restaurants (maybe that's their intent all along LOL)... apparently the local food doesn't disappoint though.
I went last week… no need to pay. Take it easy and have fun.

One of your videos showed that there is a teen club inside the lobby of El Cid - we have been to this resort twice a few years ago and are going back soon. Can you tell me more about the Teen club? My boys are 13 and 17 and so I was wondering what it includes for them. Thank you
@@judybrunton8152 Hi! The teens club is down the hallway off of the Marina lobby near the buffet restaurant entrance. My kids are now older but when they used the teen club in the past, it was more of a "hang out" spot with video games, board games, foosball, ping pong and stuff like that. Every time I tried to go inside to film it on our last trip there were teens in it and I didn't want to invade their privacy. It didn't seem like an organized activity situation more of a place to drop in and hang out when parents are enjoying the band or a cocktail. 🙂 Hope that helps a bit. Enjoy your trip!!!! 😊
how long is the shuttle ride to the beach from the hotel? is it a hassle?
@@rachelkuenzi2850 not long, under 10 minutes but sometimes the lines to go or come back are a hassle when they are long and we needed to wait for the next one.
Really enjoyed your videos, thanks for all the tips and tricks. We are heading there next week and I am wondering which building we should avoid, we are also hesitating between keeping our room with a hot tub or to upgrade to the higher floor ones as the hot tub ones don’t seem very private. Thanks so much
@@mimii1 Thank you! I actually just finished the suites video today so I'll have it up on Saturday. Hopefully, that will help answer your questions. I put in some good pics of the hot tub terraces so you can have a look and see how you feel about them. 😊
