You’re a really like-able guy. I have zero interest in sailing and I’m deathly afraid of the ocean, but I watch and look forward to all your videos. All my best! Cheers!
Another great update from Sam Holmes Sailing. Oh wait ... did you drill holes in the boat this episode??? Well yes he did 3:38 check mark and its an official episode :p Beautiful drone footage and camera shot of the area as well. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Sam: Glad to see you sailing again. Keep those videos coming for us old land lubbers that can only dream of the life you have. Great drone video! Be safe.
Hahaha Biltema!!!! everyone in Sweden loves that store but at the same time always complain on their quality but I find them ok and they got really cheap hotdogs
I was surprised to see you visited Slubbersholmen. May be you also visited Altarholmen a little bit further south. At Altarholmen my great grandfather was a pilot till 1903 when that pilot station was closed. I visited Slubbersholmen in the 1960s with my boat of a smaller sice than yours on a day sailing from Skärhamn on Tjörn Island. I realy like your videos, they are great. Have a good time.
Be careful with what you buy at Biltema, they certainly do Quantity over Quality. I would not buy any critical parts from there. Great episode, looking forward to when you get to Stockholm archipelago and further up the east coast!
I used to do a lot of singlehanded racing on a boat with a big overlapping headsail. Not the easiest thing to short tack. One of the things that help me was to always pull in the sheets with my thumbs pointing toward me. This let me pull in the line much faster because you could pull more than twice as much line with each pull. You might want to give it a try. Best wishes.
Love the idea of velcro lock pins for the turnbuckles, just looked them up on the net because of you. I am tired to replacing the wrapping tape that covers my cotter pins but I have never had a cotter pin fail and if the velcro gives there goes the attached pin.
As someone interested in making things out of wood (primarily guitars), I've found that to buy wood 'cheaper', NEVER tell the lumber yard what you're doing with it. They'll suddenly call it highly figured, boat quality, guitar quality etc and attempt to rip you off.
The tide is pretty low in the Skagerak and the Baltic - max 0,5m usually - even you can get 2m springtide in special occations where the low pressure , wind and tide all works together. Up the west coast of Norway the tide is significant when you get north of Ålesund and further....
You can use cork for a rot resistant, slip resistant and highly insulating comfortable flooring its naturally mould and anti bacterial. You can stain it, paint it and seal it and it can be bought in different textures and thicknesses as tiles or on a roll. Its even fire resistant naturally and can be made very 🔥 proof.
Just did my deck with kiwigrip - very easy, looks great, clean. Nice thing about the product is if you go a little too light you can go over it again without trouble to beef up the nonskid, also you can vary the thickness of the paint to save product. Probably 2 quarts is all you need for your boat... I think I used 3 for my 37' but would have been better off I think if I bought 4.
I hope your sailing will bring your to the island, Laeso, Denmark located in the Kattegat Sea, the eastern side of Jutland . Probably my favorite place on earth. If you go try a smoked mackerel. Wish you wonderful adventures. I enjoy following you.
I love Slubbersholmen. Generally go there at least once a season. Always more boats than just the one. Take a bouy or anchor in the bay. Hope you had a good sail to Denmark.. Warren
Great day! Good video. I just wanted to mention something from an Old Salt to a Younger Skipper 🤔. You should reef for winds like you had. The Boats only going to travel through the water so fast it’s putting tremendous loads on the rig and running rigging including the mainsheet and blocking. I just wanted to say something because I had to learn about when to reef because I was sailing the same as you and my friend who was teaching me the finer details showed me the reef! 🥺 it was faster, smoother, better for the wave interval, happy onboard not shaking and straining. Hull speed is real Brother. It’s Physics you can’t make her go faster than the waterline will allow. I started reefing early and it was so much better and it doesn’t matter how far you’re going. You reef if the winds up because if something is going to break it’s going to be under a load. Probably not at a convenient moment or location like when the mainsheet block attachment broke on the sail I was on beating into 27 knots full main and it parted the metal connecting it to the boom 🤯 and flopped around until I could pull the topping lift.🤓 oops. I used a sail tie strap and lashed the block back onto the boom and game on but I also reefed the main. Good luck Brother I love the wood tiles I will be doing it too! Fair Winds God Bless! 😏❤️🖖🏼🇺🇸
Hey man! Great video as always. If you’re going to Stockholm, Sweden, I might be able to hit you up with a spot in the water at a nice boat club in the city. It has a good workshop and only sail boats :)
I just discovered you! I have Covid right now (on the mend) and a couple of days ago came across one of your videos. I've seen a number now and love them! I enjoy your easy-going way and I am learning a lot. I will definitely contribute to your sailing adventures soon. How often do you upload? Safe sailing, and I look forward to following you and letting my friends and family know about your channel
Hah, that floor material. I've been wanting to get it for my boat but I just know its going to get stained in less than five minutes. Thanks for confirming my suspicions XD
Hi Sam thanks for your lovely videos. You should visit my home island Bornholm called the Pearl of the Baltic. All small harbours around the north tip are nice and cosy. Fair wind and best regards
Regarding stern anchor and bow tied up to the rocks.... I normally use a weight on my anchorline (connected to the anchorline with a hook and dropped down the line about 5-6 meters) when moored like this. Anchor holds better and you dont need to adjust the anchorline if slacking the bowlines 🙂 The weight I have is about 10 kg.
@@samholmessailing Ah, yes that’s a game changer. I only have about 10 feet of chain on my stern anchor…. And the same on the bow, meaning I’m using that weight no matter which one I’m using
Awesome stuff, saw your channel bout 2 months ago. All caught up. Wondering if you thought of adding small wind generator. I just bought the small wet vacuum for Ryobi one for my boat. Think it would be a good tool add. Not to bulky and when not in use you can use it like toolbox for othe Ryobi tools. Great for spills etc. Awesome watching you just dig into projects :)
The study of Dyneema, this could be a cool constructive Passarella work, even with funcional hobby that is useful for many sailors i believe..dyneema shackles...blessings...m
Was that a Sailrite sewing machine? I'm considering buying one as my 26' cruiser needs everything and I need custom made clothing but it's such a small boat. What's your advice?
That hammer template thing is weird. My only thought is they did it on purpose so that the ripstop nylon goes in different directions? Who knows. Or bad manufacturer
Hey Sam, do you not do the tracker anymore? I just looked and it hasn't been updated since 2021. Just wondering, it would be super cool to follow along.
These are my waters out here outside Gothenburg! Awesome to see you around have fun around here. We have the most islands in the whole world here in Sweden, and the archipelagos simply have some of the best sailing waters in all of the Earth. Endless adventures. :) W.

This guy gets around. A few months ago he was sailing gliders in my back yard in Tucson, now he’s in Sweden..or wherever. Good for you buddy!
He’s someone who prefers to do life instead of “life”
Slubbersholmen is my back yard. This guy is an ocean god, he's everywhere the sea reaches.
never ending upgrade, with your smile and energy you can do everything you want
You’re a really like-able guy. I have zero interest in sailing and I’m deathly afraid of the ocean, but I watch and look forward to all your videos. All my best! Cheers!
Don't fear the ocean, respect it.
Same was in Tucson , I m in Catalina ,Az. Been following him since he left L.A. for Hawaii
Thanks! Enjoy your channel. Be safe.
More beautiful coastal sailing!
Great to see you back sailing on the Pickled Herring again. Love watching the evolution of the boat.
So good to see you back on the water. Thanks Sam and keep these awesome videos coming.
Great to see you on the move again fair winds.
Another great update from Sam Holmes Sailing. Oh wait ... did you drill holes in the boat this episode??? Well yes he did 3:38 check mark and its an official episode :p Beautiful drone footage and camera shot of the area as well. Thanks for sharing!
Glad you are back out on the water. Stay safe.
Always the best videos
Straight to the point, no click bait no dramatics just to the point.
Wonderful to see you out on the water again. Can't wait for these next Scandinavian adventures.
These anchor sites are the coolest I've ever seen. You're the man
Hi Sam: Glad to see you sailing again. Keep those videos coming for us old land lubbers that can only dream of the life you have. Great drone video! Be safe.
This reminds me that one of the best parts of sailing is the people you meet. Strangers when you meet but friendships that can last a lifetime.
Great video, Sam. Fair winds buddy. Be well and stay safe. 🙏
Hahaha Biltema!!!! everyone in Sweden loves that store but at the same time always complain on their quality but I find them ok and they got really cheap hotdogs
Your resourcefulness is top tier 👌
My favorite show! Thanks Sam for all the content you put out.
Beginning& continuing. Ebb& flow. Great vid, liked the music with the drone footage. Good health to you.

Love the "Holmes Identity" film score at the end.
This dude have balls of steel. Great content keep it up !!!
Such a positive guy, don’t ever change,

Wow Sam, beautiful sail and the drone footage was beautiful 😊⛵️⛵️⛵️⛵️👍👍
Pickle looking good. Good show getting underway, you're a good sailor, fun to watch.
I've seen those interlocking teak floor tiles in home stores and catalogs and wondered if they would work as cockpit flooring. Great idea!
Not unless they are at a minimum bathroom/kitchen rated.. or you've sealed them yourself..
Love the idea of velcro lock pins for the turnbuckles, just looked them up on the net because of you. I am tired to replacing the wrapping tape that covers my cotter pins but I have never had a cotter pin fail and if the velcro gives there goes the attached pin.
Really-Really enjoy your shows thank you!
That new drone is awesome!
Scandinavians love to talk shit about Biltema yet these stores are everywhere and always full of people haha. I LOVE Biltema.
Yeah, you just have to know what to buy there. No critical things or heavy wear items. The rest will save you a bunch of money.
Great to see you off again! Safe travels!
Awesome Sam!
I'm on the road all the time in the states. When I bed down I'm watching your videos. Keep it up brother!
As someone interested in making things out of wood (primarily guitars), I've found that to buy wood 'cheaper', NEVER tell the lumber yard what you're doing with it.
They'll suddenly call it highly figured, boat quality, guitar quality etc and attempt to rip you off.
Hey, saw your Opinel there: my favourite folding knife!
Pickle lookin sharp !! but that winch sounds like it needs more grease. that place looks cold when the suns not out !!
When you tie up to the rocks in the Scandinavian way, do you have to keep adjusting the lines and repositioning the boat as the tide comes in and out?
Not too much. The tides are very minimal here.
Thanks for answering this was bothering me since where I sail we have 16 foot swings!

The kazoo drone music was amazing
Pickled Herring is sailing again! great video Sam .

I like Sam's way of dealing with high fuel prices...Just tack upwind !
Always interesting content, following your track to the Azores this summer.
I don't think i could do this by myself. Respect
Sam ...........................he's a legend ~
I love Slubbersholmen. Generally go there at least once a season. Always more boats than just the one. Take a bouy or anchor in the bay.
Hope you had a good sail to Denmark..

Great video 👍 always so interesting ❤️
The boat is sure sprucing up nicely.
I installed some of that flooring on my boat a month ago and, similarly, made a mess of the cutouts for the hatches.
nice, the next season begins !

I had a mainsail that they installed two sliders at the battens just outside them about 2" apart, that worked very well, seemed to act like trucks
It was interesting; you could see the rocks blocking the current where he was anchored at the end from the drone's point of view.
Hah, that floor material. I've been wanting to get it for my boat but I just know its going to get stained in less than five minutes. Thanks for confirming my suspicions XD
Hey Sam!! Question, how much gas does the little Yanmar motor use per nautical mile?
Thanks In advance ✌️from N.C.
do you pack the sewing machine in the boat? how to you manage sail repairs when you're all the way in the middle of nowhere
Sammy Holmes!!!!
I have used this same flooring in my boat and i will say i absolutely hate it it stains even from just moisture and now im taking it back up
If you loved Biltema then come to Finland and visit Puuilo. You'll have a good old time there.
Hi Sam thanks for your lovely videos. You should visit my home island Bornholm called the Pearl of the Baltic. All small harbours around the north tip are nice and cosy. Fair wind and best regards
such a beautiful place!
I'm waiting for the Sam Holmes Ibiza Mix.
Those cockpit wood tiles will float away if you get any kind of water in there. That will be funny.
Sam Holmes' original during the drone flying?
Ha! A cool little tune.
Yes 🎹
Dyneema certainly has superior tensile strength but I fear it's weakness is chaffing/abrasion.

G'day Sam. Name of the game in my philosophy is, save were you can when you can. As long as the quality is exelent.

Hell yeah brother. Let's kick some waves ass
Nice to see the Pickle in action again!
Very nice video man! If you will sail to Finland don’t hesitate to contact! I can give you few cool tips and locations to visit 😊
So cool to see a small N-Am boat beach and moor the Scandinavian way ...
Awesome adventure
You don’t play around. In the water already and back to adventure
Next purchase should be a head/chest camera mount
Sam , how do you get around the 90day visa requirement?
Im going to go to the uk in august
The study of Dyneema, this could be a cool constructive Passarella work, even with funcional hobby that is useful for many sailors i believe..dyneema shackles...blessings...m
Is that your own music at the end during the drone footage?
Do you ever do any fishing for food while sailing?
Fairwinds Sam.
I can’t believe Sam called them ropes 🤣
Was that a Sailrite sewing machine? I'm considering buying one as my 26' cruiser needs everything and I need custom made clothing but it's such a small boat. What's your advice?
That was not a Sailrite but I have used them in the past and do recommend them.
Is your final destination back home somewhere in the US?
Did you ever repair the starboard cockpit locker door?
Yes. A guy in Lossiemouth helped me
That hammer template thing is weird. My only thought is they did it on purpose so that the ripstop nylon goes in different directions? Who knows. Or bad manufacturer
