Thanks for the video Sam. Saddened to see you ripped off by the marina and double saddened to hear that your bike got nicked. The further south you go in the UK the more you will be disappointed.
Come to the very far North and all will look better. One week of mooring in London will pay for an entire winter here, and the keys have never come out of my car ignition for 2 years. If it is not there when I come back I know someone needed it in a hurry and when they return it there will probably be a bottle of Highland Park in the passenger seat.😁👍

Sailing past Cutty Sark without the slightest of nods, off-handedly mentioning the Queen's death, calmly noting the theft of his bike... Sam is the ultimate unfazed tourist :D

Sailing up the Thames is sailing through a lot of history. 11:00 (JIC) that's Cutty Sark at Greenwich - right after you crossed the Prime Meridian. And if you visit the Greenwich Observatory and see the mark at 0 degrees longitude, your (American) phone GPS will read wrong. 0 degrees for 'our geoid' is about 250 feet east. That puzzled me when I was there. Google Maps and other map apps work just fine.
Farther up the Thames is the Golden Hinde (replica) of Francis Drake's ship he circumnavigated in.
And sorry about your bicycle and the Queen - hope you had alternative plans for high tea.

Ah Sam i'm so gutted i didn't see you in Harwich! My house almost looks over where you were moored and it's you that has inspired me to sail. I bought a boat - a classic wooden - so obviously it's not in the water yet lol! Will be though and a big dream is to sail under the QE2 bridge like you did in this video. The times i've driven over that bridge in crazy traffic - all noise and fuss - to sail under in calm would be amazing!
Real shame i didn't know you were in Harwich, i would have loved to chat and show you around. Christopher Jones's house was just opposite where you docked, he was the Master of the "Mayflower"' that took the first pilgrims to America, don't know if you saw his house?

This summer I helped a family friend sail from Hilton head island to the Chesapeake Bay. It was a 3 1/2 day passage and one I’ll never forget. I plan on helping him out in the future. I did a little bit of video work but I haven’t even looked at it because funny enough; I didn’t video a whole lot. This all brings back memories I did all this bringing my boat into London but in the tail end of hurricane Bertha. Go to Lime house basin and moor on the canal and river trust moorings. You can get a visitors license from CRT I dropped my mast for the bridges if you wanted to stay in London you could go up the bow river dirt cheap I kept my boat there for a year for £150. That journey was my first go at sailing that was tough and terrifying. If you leave the UK by the English Channel be very careful over Goodwin Sands. That’s a creepy place just like deadman’s island which you just passed littered with skeletons. If you stay till summer you could do the Jester Azores challenge.

I'm sorry about your bike, it sucks.
You could go down the Cantabrian Sea and visit the north of Spain, maybe go down to Portugal and Seville and then make the leap to the mainland.
    Greetings.

Pisser about the bike...but it looks like it pushed you to upgrading to an even nicer one. I didn't catch the manufacturer but heard they were made there in the UK. Great radio skills with Thames River traffic control. Reminded me of talking with ATC when I was flying. Thanks for taking us along- brilliant shots along the way! Dean

That's a Brompton folding bike, and they do have a cult following here, great for carrying on trains and commuting or exploring, unfortunately bike thieves are common in London, especially since invention of battery grinders!

Once Pickled Herring is on the hard please consider Port of Everett Marina (central Puget Sound) Washington state. World class sailing all the way to the Arctic or Cabo or back to Hawaii. Everett Marina is the largest public marina on the left coast. Slip fees are reasonable, if not cheap, old sailboats are a dime a dozen. I've flipped 9 sailboats (by accident) n made some crazy money. Best was sailing on all 9 boats. If you want to do a sailing vid on Puget
Sound, inside passage to Alaska and flipping sailboats, I could help you out, I'm retired

Hi Sam, enjoyed the latest video. So sorry that you had your bike stolen, unfortunately a cable lock is just not good enough in most UK cities. I use gold standard D locks and chain locks for my bike. There are loads of videos on UA-cam about these, check out the Lock Picking Lawyer for more information. I personally use Kryptonite locks but ABUS seem to be well regarded too. If you did get yourself a Brompton I hope you are enjoying it. I hope when you return to Europe in the new year you'll make a voyage to explore Wales.

I did the same trip in July, found the passage up the Thames less hectic than I expected, less traffic, but the water was very rough higher up outside St Katherine Docks where I moored, too many fast cats and ribs speeding around. I was excited about your initial plan to anchor on Stangate Creek up the Medway would’ve been calmer than out in the estuary! I’ve stopped there a few times. Lots of history on the way up the river. Sorry about the bike theft, wonder if you got a Brompton, nice and small but just too expensive for me. I was directed to Hole Haven creek right at the bottom of the Thames as a good starting off point for going up river, only good for shallow draft though, 1.5m at low water. I also had a night on the Ha’penny pier at Harwich on my way north, small but friendly place. Strong tides there.

I have a similar cable, the big cable cutters go through those like they were made of butter. If bike thieves want a bike they get it, you can make it more difficult with two locks.
