🔴TRADITIONAL JAMAICAN PINEAPPLE, GINGER DRINK With TURMERIC

  • On Taste Buds today we are making a Traditional Jamaican Pineapple Ginger Drink with Turmeric Root added. Many Jamaicans utilize the entire fruit by boiling the skins with Ginger to make this very delicious drink. As a side note; I didn't get to wash the skins before I peeled the fruit as the idea to make the juice was an afterthought🔴
Here's my version of this classic Drink that is found in many other places around the world
    List of Ingredients
    Pineapple skins washed and cleaned
    2 thumbs Turmeric root
    3 - 4 thumbs Ginger root
    2-3 Limes or Lemon
    1-2 Orange or Tangerines
    Sugar or Honey to taste
White or dark Rum to taste(Optional)

scrub the pineapple witn a firm scrubbing brush before you cut it. that way you retain all the flavour and more of the natural juice than when you wash it out after you peel.
peel the turmeric root before you put it in. that peel gives some people acid reflux. you can add some tiny amounts of cinnamon and clove and bay leaf to add a smooth surprise to the drink.

Great drink! Definitely best to scrub the pineapple BEFORE cutting it! Not only does it help to retain the flavor and nutrients of the fruit but it also prevents the germs/bugs on the outside skin from getting inside your fruit while you cut it. Enjoy!

Once it's simmered 15 minutes it's all sterile. Or wash outside good let air dry for a day then you can let the wild yeast ferment it (best not to wash just rinse if you live out of city you no rural) don't simmer skins if you want to ferment

Ok well I guess not many people read the little side note he wrote in the description box below the vid. He said the idea to make the drink was an after thought so that's why he ended up having to wash it after cutting, but I get what you are saying. And too, whether or not he was going to make a drink with the skins, he should have just washed the pineapple before cutting into it to prevent cross contamination from the skin to the fruit inside, since he used the knife to cut up the fruit. But yea, good comment

I'm from Fiji and we don't waste the pineapple skin. It is always boiled with ginger, cooled and bottled and put in the fridge to drink. And it always goes. Everyone in my just loves it. We also use that for making pies. I like the other ingredients you use and I will definitely try them. Also, like, suggested by other viewers, it would be easier if you wash and scrub your pineapple before cutting. When you wash after cutting, a lot of the good stuff is taken away by the washing. Just a thought.

Dora Noora, I use passion fruit, a bit of lemon too with my pineapple juice but it is just added in after the boiled juice is cooled. The wine sounds good though. Pineapple is quite acidic and a few days in the fridge, the juice does take on an alcoholic smell.

I make this drink all the time especially when feeling flu-like symptoms. But I scrub the pineapple really well before cutting. I also don’t waste anything. What I mean is I add lemon instead of lime and squeeze the juice of the lemon to add later and add the lemon skin or peel or whatever. And if you want to really feel the ginger, smash it before adding it. I sometimes add part of the pineapple itself. I hope u enjoy it and next time u peel a pineapple and use lime, or lemon, keep the skin in the freezer and use next time. I always have them in my freezer. Thumbs up.

James Cobb Yep, we’re called Moderners, and we ruined so many healthy civilizations, it’s actually extremely sad. It’s a big reason the Natives didn’t trust us and I don’t blame them a single bit. If we just asked the Natives if they had ever dealt with Scurvy, they would have fixed it, but nope, what would the stupid tribe man know about scurvy? We moderners are scientists with PHDs! We discovered Vitamin C!

"We" don't poison food; you are not forced to eat anything you don't want; don't assume the grass is always greener on the other side; if you're so worried about being poisoned by your own culture's food, then don't be lazy, make food from scratch yourself.

Ive made this many times from following his recipe. DELICIOUS!!
Only I do some things a little different...I soak my pineapples in a large stock pot (I usually do 2 at a time) in 2 cups of vinegar and filled the rest of the way with water. This way I clean the outer skin thoroughly from dirt and pesticides before exposing the inside of the pineapple. Rinse real well...about 3 or 4 times!
Also, I use pure cane sugar and purified water...making a syrup. It make the juice taste so much smoother.
(Oh yes, I wash my pot thoroughly, fill it with water and boil to make the pot sterile and free of any oil residue).
I do not use turmeric, only ginger.
Im so thankful to have found this channel because it brought this awesome way to make my own pineapple juice so easily!
