🔴TRADITIONAL JAMAICAN PINEAPPLE, GINGER DRINK With TURMERIC
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 сер 2024
- On Taste Buds today we are making a Traditional Jamaican Pineapple Ginger Drink with Turmeric Root added. Many Jamaicans utilize the entire fruit by boiling the skins with Ginger to make this very delicious drink. As a side note; I didn't get to wash the skins before I peeled the fruit as the idea to make the juice was an afterthought🔴
Here's my version of this classic Drink that is found in many other places around the world
List of Ingredients
Pineapple skins washed and cleaned
2 thumbs Turmeric root
3 - 4 thumbs Ginger root
2-3 Limes or Lemon
1-2 Orange or Tangerines
Sugar or Honey to taste
White or dark Rum to taste(Optional)

scrub the pineapple witn a firm scrubbing brush before you cut it. that way you retain all the flavour and more of the natural juice than when you wash it out after you peel.
peel the turmeric root before you put it in. that peel gives some people acid reflux. you can add some tiny amounts of cinnamon and clove and bay leaf to add a smooth surprise to the drink.
Very good suggestions. Thanks.
Thanks!
I can't believe you forgot about...mint!😉
This drink is tha bomb!!
Will make it for my friend's BD soon coming.
Gin and ice cubes are splendid idea !!!!
Dash of rum would bring it to 100% ! Lolololol
Great tips!
Do you ever use hibiscus flower to give it some color and tangy flavor?
Great drink! Definitely best to scrub the pineapple BEFORE cutting it! Not only does it help to retain the flavor and nutrients of the fruit but it also prevents the germs/bugs on the outside skin from getting inside your fruit while you cut it. Enjoy!
Totally agree!
Once it's simmered 15 minutes it's all sterile. Or wash outside good let air dry for a day then you can let the wild yeast ferment it (best not to wash just rinse if you live out of city you no rural) don't simmer skins if you want to ferment
I LOVE YOU MY AFRICAN, CARIBBEAN AND AFRICAN AMERICAN FAMILY!!
I love you too.
I love you too😘
One love family God Bless You
I would clean the pineapple skin thoroughly before peeling so that I don’t end up washing out the interior goodness with the skin later
That's all I was thinking when I was watching. Your washing out all that natural flavour
@@jacquedawkins212 i said the same thing
2coryman Was just saying the same thing to myself
@@oligyim17 what if you go and..nevermind🙄🤦🏾♂️
Ok well I guess not many people read the little side note he wrote in the description box below the vid. He said the idea to make the drink was an after thought so that's why he ended up having to wash it after cutting, but I get what you are saying. And too, whether or not he was going to make a drink with the skins, he should have just washed the pineapple before cutting into it to prevent cross contamination from the skin to the fruit inside, since he used the knife to cut up the fruit. But yea, good comment
I made double. Half in the fridge and half made in ice cubes.... Serve with a shot of gin with the cubes.... I'm in heaven.... Thank you for this wonderful drink....
Helen Tew awesome idea thanks for sharing
Definitely trying this!
dang, you just blow my mind.
@@TheSaspe do you like gin too?
@@helentew1453 yup. i have gin and tonics all the time
The security guard at the bank where I work told me about this when I was battling a cold hardcore. I did this and cleared me up in just a few days. I will never let this recipe go.
Sweet jamaica, jamaica nice👍😆🤣
I was thinking of all the beautiful health benefits this would be , cold , flu

I have all ingredients on hand. Someone gave me Tangerines from their tree yesterday. Pineapple came along. I found fresh ginger I had forgot about in the fridge, and tumeric from Trader Joe's, Limes are here, cane sugar in the bottom drawer and This video just popped up. What else can God give me. Love it and share it .
God is good👍👍

Now all you have to do is go in the kitchen and prepare it. The ingredients aren't going to throw themselves together without your assistance.
You must be a mind reader? LOL. 👍
@@4444colin
I'm not a mind reader, but I am some what of a logician. I saw one of your videos and your appearance says it all. You just don't appear to be someone who cares to do anything outside of making a delicious cup of Choffy. At any rate, good luck with your Choffy distribution service.
@@alanmorris7669 Hi Alan. The Choffy may have been a friend who used my name account when I was new to UA-cam. Never did a Choffy video etc. Any way you are spot on with the "I am the missing component" with all the ingredients of life coming my way. I am the light and the way.
Happy Easter Sunday to you and all connected to you.☕
I saw this recipe about two years ago and have added a bit of my own spin. I sweeten with honey and add about 6 oranges to two pineapples. I also put some chopped pineapple into the hot tea. My family absolutely loves it. We enjoy it hot especially cold days. It also helps my mom with headaches. A long comment but it's such great recipe it has become a family favorite ❤ Thanks for uploading!
Sounds great! Thanks for watching. Check out all the other variations I have with this drink also.
I'm from Fiji and we don't waste the pineapple skin. It is always boiled with ginger, cooled and bottled and put in the fridge to drink. And it always goes. Everyone in my just loves it. We also use that for making pies. I like the other ingredients you use and I will definitely try them. Also, like, suggested by other viewers, it would be easier if you wash and scrub your pineapple before cutting. When you wash after cutting, a lot of the good stuff is taken away by the washing. Just a thought.
Usenia Mistry That’s what I was thinking... wash before cutting.
@ Usenia Mistry i am from Suriname+ we use the pine apple skin to make delicious wine. You can also mix it with markoesa (passion fruit)
Dora Noora, I use passion fruit, a bit of lemon too with my pineapple juice but it is just added in after the boiled juice is cooled. The wine sounds good though. Pineapple is quite acidic and a few days in the fridge, the juice does take on an alcoholic smell.
How in the world do you use pinnapple skin to make pies? I'd love to know! I'm thinking of an American fruit pie, like an apple pie, so I am in the wrong ballpark?
harveythepooka, the juice from the boiled pineapple skin is used for the pie filling. Used with custard or cornflour and some pineapple flesh, it makes a very nice filling.
I love just listening to Jamaica people they are so sweet and calm. There voices are like silk just smooth to the ears. This drink looks amazing.
Roylana Brewton you’re not wrong
😏
They are [SWEET BIPOLAR] people!🇯🇲😎🤣🤣🤣🤣
Calm?? Not all of them lol
I find them talking but i hear them singing it's very soothing to the ears i love them. No one can do that only Jamaican people do that. Love them from Philippines 🇵🇭. God bless you people of Jamaica 🇯🇲.
So I just made this (I followed it step by step). And woooooow, it’s delicious!! Going to drink this in the morning then add dark rum and ice to it in the evening! Thank you 💕
Hope you enjoy
Im American but I feel like Jamaicans were the first ones to drink superfoods and garlic etc etc and the world is just catching on. Back in the day they were the only ones to do stuff like this and I love it!
Stop being silly.
That would be INDIA...going back 5,000 years
Pineapple, ginger, and mint ALL good for digestion. Bless up👌🏾
Akosua Fire Thanks, didn't know
O now I'm gonna add mint too
Mint? Did I watch a different video than you?
pesto12601 lol!! No. I just kinda added it🤷🏽♀️
Yes!! I'm gonna add some mint magic in there. I picked up two pineapples on sale and I can't wait to try this.
Black pepper helps with the absorption of the curcumin in the turmeric 😄
How does it influence the taste?
@@mw7882 Negatively lol
Lol well it adds peppery taste.. I put it in my turmeric and ginger tea. At first I Didn't like it too much but I got used to it since the ginger is like spicy. If you want the full benefit of the turmeric then I would add it.. it's totally optional. I never had this drink tho so I'm not sure how it would taste lol
Black pepper does't affect the taste at all, It mainly works with the herbs so they get into the body in a easier way. Obviously you cant over do it with the black pepper or else it will be peppery
I add black pepper to my ginger and turmeric tea as well as red pepper and cloves. Good and good for you!
One love ❤️
Lawd!!!! between the Africans and the Caribbean’s, the price of honey, garlic, turmeric, ginger and pineapple is going to go all the way up this quarantine time 😂🤣🤣

It did already 🤷
Anything for us is always expensive idont know the reason but they know we build Egypt if some of don't k now check your historic
Next time I'll use all these ingredients to make it truly medicinal. I inly have made the pineapple juice as just pineapple juice...with only ginger added.
Still cheaper than meat
I love a good tea with honey and lemon I have made this but with fruit i will use skins I wash my produce in white vinegar too yes turmeric but you must add black pepper that helps. The body absorb the benefits of the turmeric.I like a little cinnamon and a little coconut oil fairy good, and I use honey instead of sugar❤❤❤❤❤❤ and I save the top green of the pineapple root it makes a beautiful house plant as well. I don’t believe in wasting anything also, I make banana tea from the peeling very good for sleep, potassium helps leg cramps I’m very happy that you’re teaching people natural ways. I also learn a lot of things from other countries, so thank you for sharing the love you are healing the world.bless you and your family 🙏✨🇺🇸❤️😊☀️✨👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I make this drink all the time especially when feeling flu-like symptoms. But I scrub the pineapple really well before cutting. I also don’t waste anything. What I mean is I add lemon instead of lime and squeeze the juice of the lemon to add later and add the lemon skin or peel or whatever. And if you want to really feel the ginger, smash it before adding it. I sometimes add part of the pineapple itself. I hope u enjoy it and next time u peel a pineapple and use lime, or lemon, keep the skin in the freezer and use next time. I always have them in my freezer. Thumbs up.
I added Hibiscus to this and man wow! Latinos refer to Hibisicus as "Flor De Jamaica." Drink is Agua de Jamaica "Jamaican Water" it just only has Hibiscus water and sugar. The Ginger, Tumeric and Pineapple made it different. Thank you
I have the that hibiscus too! Jamaicans call it sorrel. I'm going to make that drink and post it! Thanks for your idea😊😊😊

Me to love the recipe ... glad to know this and love Jamaican's laid back and mellow ways
My grandmother and mom made this for me when I was a child living in Puerto Rico. Maybe it was passed on down generation to generation, because of our African ancestry. I loved it. It is very refreshing.
The fruit and root scraps were given to our pigs
Awesome! I remember being in the country in Jamaica and having animals in our backyard... Good days
It's not African. This drink was made from Natives in the Caribbean and South America. It's called Chicha and Tepache. Some natives add corn, herbs, allspice and even chilies. Africans and Europeans added there influence like sugar, ginger, rice, other spices and herbs.
@@jaredrios9575 she said OUR African ancestry as us Puerto Ricans have African blood in us. But carry on…
Love the fact that his clean and his hand nails look super clean plus he give you alternatives .thanks I loved this.
Thanks for watching!
Hello...I'm a JAMAICAN and I find a better way to use and make the drink....first take a new or clean washing brush or fruit brush and brush the whole pineapple under running water...next peel and core...next break it up small and place in blender with ginger...blend until smooth...strain...add lime or lemon juice...sweeten to taste...this way you do not lose the nutrients in the skin with the hot water....sooo that is the old way of making the pineapple juice...but my way...it is more nutritious and delicious.😊⭐💫🌟
@@alethiacaldwell9363 … I don’t know if it’s proper to say “a better way” rather than “another way?”😳

Wash the pine apple with a brush properly before you cut it so the juice that is on the inside of the skin does not get lost when rinsing. That is how i do it
I thought I was just going to put the lime in the coconut and drink it all up, but THIS RECIPE makes me want to go ALL IN! I'm NEVER wasting pineapple peelings and cores again! THANK YOU FOR THIS DELICIOUS-LOOKING DRINK RECIPE! You're making me an island girl. I can feel it!

LOL
Thank you very much for this recipe. I'll try it out. To enjoy the benefits of turmeric one needs to add some black pepper. For this recipe I would say 1tsp as black pepper helps with the absorption of the turmeric and it's benefits. This is a fantastic and healthy recipe. I'm cutting back on sugar so I'll try it without hoping the pineapple is nice and sweet 😁😁😁 God bless you and regards from Nairobi, Kenya 🇰🇪🇰🇪🇰🇪
Blessings to my Kenyan family... Great tip with the black pepper. Here's another version of the same drink for you to try also ua-cam.com/video/hRFsHmtuZOU/v-deo.html
Is best to wash the pineapple well with a kitchen brush prior to cutting it, that way you don't waste any flavors.
Something tells me that the countries where they make this drink a lot does NOT poison their food the way we do.
Luvenia Vaughan thats it rite there. Why scrub a poisoned fruit?Usa & places that have alot of neanderthal influence will poison everything. But if ur in a place thats away from colonizers(white folks, its just the truth) u can make anything healthy.
James Cobb Yep, we’re called Moderners, and we ruined so many healthy civilizations, it’s actually extremely sad. It’s a big reason the Natives didn’t trust us and I don’t blame them a single bit. If we just asked the Natives if they had ever dealt with Scurvy, they would have fixed it, but nope, what would the stupid tribe man know about scurvy? We moderners are scientists with PHDs! We discovered Vitamin C!
:/
Amen!!
@Hector Martinez > pineapple is actually a pretty good pesticide, but hey what do you know.
"We" don't poison food; you are not forced to eat anything you don't want; don't assume the grass is always greener on the other side; if you're so worried about being poisoned by your own culture's food, then don't be lazy, make food from scratch yourself.
I'm Mexican and we use pineapple skin for urinary infection also for a drink to help digestion . We boiled the pineapple and stays for days until become stronger is almost like apple cider vinegar) it's very healthy besides it feels like you tipsy .. and for the urinary infection we just boiled and drink until .. I will make this right now. Thank you❤️❤️❤️.

What a great drink to have around during flu season!
Janice MacEachern what? Flu season is everyday
The first time I have all the ingredients for the recipe 😎
Ive made this many times from following his recipe. DELICIOUS!!
Only I do some things a little different...I soak my pineapples in a large stock pot (I usually do 2 at a time) in 2 cups of vinegar and filled the rest of the way with water. This way I clean the outer skin thoroughly from dirt and pesticides before exposing the inside of the pineapple. Rinse real well...about 3 or 4 times!
Also, I use pure cane sugar and purified water...making a syrup. It make the juice taste so much smoother.
(Oh yes, I wash my pot thoroughly, fill it with water and boil to make the pot sterile and free of any oil residue).
I do not use turmeric, only ginger.
Im so thankful to have found this channel because it brought this awesome way to make my own pineapple juice so easily!

Hi yes very good healthy drink, me personal will use the skin of the pineapple!!!! After you finish the process Of the boiling everything should be put into a blender and process that and then drained into a drainer after that you will of have a very nutritional mixture of everything on your drink how about that my friend ✌️
Healthy? Didn't you see the added sugar? That is not healthy, sir.
@@mann953 Healthy or unhealthy, did you not grow up with free will and thinking? Do as suits you.
@Hector Martinez Please do your research on sugar substitutes...they are FAR more unhealthy (and even downright dangerous) than natural sugars unless you want to continue to screw up your insulin and cause cells to mutate and become cancerous. BTW...the human body runs on glucose, including the brain.
@@mann953 Try adding some fresh stevia leaves to the mixture. That will sweeten it naturally, also.

Actually during boiling you should add cayenne pepper and Cinnamon sticks or powder. Adds a great flavor and zist to it.
