This is like The Open University (home schooling university in the UK) for car mechanics - thanks as always guys! 🙏🏼👍
"the engine was good before it broke down".... that has to be one of my all time favourite quotes!
it's like the guy who's off work ill... he's obviously just pulling a sicky, he was fine when I saw him yesterday
I'm so glad this car is running, apart from the chain rattle it sounds great. Watching your videos over the last few days has been comforting for me, as your work reminds me of my brother in law, who was a mechanic, and passed away suddenly last week. Thank you.👍
Built a number of Ingenium engines and we have to activate the chain tensioner before we put the VCT cover on, oil pressure enough won't activate it enough and cause chain slap
Nice work guys, get the chain done and sort the DPF after. Ignore the negatives on the comments, they are just jealous as they cannot achieve what you do. Good work.
Another good video Rob and Chris m demonstrating the frustrations of the motor trade the consumer does not appreciate sometimes.
‘Crystalfied’…..Robs’s new entry in the Oxford English Dictionary 😂😂😂
Best Advertisement for Toyota or Honda I've seen recently.
looking forward to hearing Chris when he is mic'd up 🎤😜
That engine compartment is testament for EVs so much technology and no reliability would anyone dare drive that across the Sahara like a series 1 never. As usual gentlemen A1 service.
Watch out Chris, Rob's come over all funny.
Way off on that one guys.
early version loses the VVT due to a miss, manufactured part. any little rattle in the chain means you have to replace both chains and all the guides and tensioners. there is also an updated intermediate gear that helps prevent future failure.
The DPF is the easy part and you don't need to remove it from the car at all.
Launch UK DPF cleaning solution works pretty much every time. A forced regeneration can crack the DPF.
"The engine was good before it broke down", that's a classic Rob.
quote of the day"the engine was good until it broke" nice one rob!!!
haha ..thats exactly what i thought too !!! made me laugh when he came out with that one! Lol
@@rogerjsy it was and always is
aha ! ,thats why the cam was loose, thanks for the info
never had anything in a tin unblock a blocked dpf yet, god knows i wish i had
if you yank the engine out, it will be easy to do chain + dpf together, + you will be able to roll it outside *CAUTION* the good cleaners are caustic soda, its burns concrete, never mind hands, don't put your hand over the exhaust if it in the system, if it does get through, it will take at least 2 layers of skin off straight away keep up the good work chaps
Did a DPF clean on my mondeo with that aerosol, took it for a drive and WOW, a smoke screen a destroyer skipper would be proud off, takes time to work through so as it is sitting for a while the chemical will soak in and help to clear the DPF
Rob with that dpf cleaner your meant to take it out for a drive after putting it in. When you do it will be smoky but will clear. It tells you all in the instructions what to do and speeds etc. But you need to sort the chain first.
Well done guys you got it right with the cam once the timing chain is sorted will be a lovely vehicle 👍👍👍
Leave it to josh guys he’s got all the gear and time to do it while you get on with the main job of getting Chris,s reliant hgv going 😇, great post guys thoroughly entertaining
Do the DPF in house. Would make a great video
You two are a breath of fresh air well done guys can't wait for the next one 😀
Glad it’s a runner chaps, and it’s a no brainier to get the chains done and the DPF. Looking forward to the next one.👌👌
I admire how you both work methodically through each of the problems.
get the dpf man down and you can do the truck as well?
Why do the adverts always come on just as you are about to start the engine?
The DPF will never regen with a glow plug issue / control unit , this is one of the main reasons why a DPF gets blocked in the first place . When the DPF gets cleaned read the resistance on the glow plugs and also use the diagnostic computer to check the function / activity of glow plugs and if the fault comes back as control unit replace it .
Regarding the chain tension it’s defo slapping, get a full running gear kit and you’ll have no worries after . I’m a bmw master tech here in Dublin 30 with experience on everything at home also in work and I love the channel , get real life experience and problem solving from Chris. Keep it coming lads if you ever need any info on BMW or Mini just get in touch via message and I’ll send you my email or phone number. Remember lads if it’s not flat out you’re retired bahahahahahahaha
I was at the point when Chris was about to turn the key and the ads cut in! My heart nearly stopped! Great to hear it fire up, but very disappointed at LR Engineering, I thought chains were supposed to last well over 100k. This allied to other issues with these engines is very worrying. Great content. ❤
Don’t forget you also have a free recall on this due. The power steering bolts and part of the rack. It’s Free at LR. 😊
Hi guys welcome back to the Chanel and a new video!!! was missing today, threw us all we thought we missed the start!!!
Your diagnostic skills always impress me!
Amazing video gents. All your efforts to get this vehicle started and back to life were not in vain. You certainly managed to narrow down all the faults to a blocked DPF filter and a timing chain kit as the major mechanical issues.Well done lads and keep up the good work.Good thinking outside the box too by not carrying out static regeneration prior to replacing a suspected faulty timing chain,as this process places the engine under load, which could potentially cause a chain failure thus causing further mechanical issues .
As long as I can remember (that's a while) I've always wanted a full fat Range Rover with all the tassels but every time I see something like this I think "just get a Landcruiser will you" Great video again guys
Evening guys 😊Great that the engine wasn’t destroyed boom 💥 Chris is always cautious which is a good thing 👍🏻 It was strange no see Rob jump up and down when the motor started lol 😆 Hopefully you’ll show the timing chain fix 👍🏻
Good to see that the engine isn't completely borked. I'm still surprised that for a 7 year old vehicle that it has an iffy engine, not many vehicles have that problem. I would certainly try and get that chain done and give it a detail and you would sell that no problem 🙂👍🏻
The MAF fault will deffo be DPF related. It can't breath in enough because it can't make space farting it out the other end, so the ECU thinks it should have more air than it's getting or it's on the top of mount everest. At least the hand over the exaust pift noise means the exhaust doesn't have any leaks. Doesn't prove good volume of flow.
Dvla dealer recall outstanding on it too.
Tip to clear the DPF, go on a motorway, put it in third, keep it there and hit 70 for around 20 miles or so, it’ll burn the soot out!
Ahh, the old Italian test drive!
Old wives tail. Does no good. 20 mins around 2000 rpm should do it. If system is working correctly
If fuel tank contains less than 50% diesel then DPF regeneration will never occur regardless of other vehicle parameters.
Putting a timing chain behind the flywheel (groan)... And balance rods?..... As an old mechanic I am so angry daughter got one of these cars.. (dad can you fix it).... But joy..... The chain snapped and it's had a new engine fitted from main dealer 7k.....so hopefully this comfortable good looking car might last 2 years...... Fingers crossed.
Ooo you lucky boys, love to see you fit a chain kit and see how a dpf is cleaned professionally, great video again hope you dinner wasn't too cold Rob 😜
Modern day diesels with their emission devises are an absolute pain , dpfs blocking egr faults carbon inside manifolds half the trouble nowadays is down to lack of proper maintenance and being driven correctly , dropping kids off at school and then going for nails to be clipped and going for wax strip trips is no good for modern day diesels 😉👍
Definitely new chain kit needed, that’s the sound of the chain guides scraping off the chain in my experience, I had this exact noise on my BMW N47, just be careful of the guides breaking off in the meantime
Just a thought on the DPF . I have a Ford Kuga and had a blocked DPF, had it cleaned but the guy said the DPF wouldn't regenerate unless there was more than half a tank of diesel , might be the same on the Land Rover
Hi guys brilliant as always just wondered could not the blocked DPF be putting pressure on the valves and assembly there for pressure on the cam chain tensioner just a thought 😊
Cracking work yet again, you can always take a non runner and turn it around with ease
I can distinctly remember my initial thoughts about the Evoque when it first came onto the market. I won't print those thoughts here but I cannot recall seeing anything about that car which has caused me to revise those thoughts.
wise decision on the force regen, many years ago when adblue, was first coming in before adblue tanks were fitted on Volvo dump trucks i had one on a dump truck iwas driving get completly clogged up next day and replacement regen filter overnighted from Volvo in sweden , new replacement filter put in,and the fitter did a force regen via his laptop, and the temperature of the exhaust got up to 685 deg C just to clear out the system even with a new ceramic dpf filter in, force regens work but they make the engine work VERY hard , hence wise choice on the timing chains :) :)
As I thought, just can't imagine Rob working on the chain gang 😄😄
Good idea IMHO to put it out for the chain to be done. Saves money on tools, time and effort and it will be nice to have it done by an experienced guy. Bob
I use that DPF cleaner on all my DPF work and have had 98% success rate with it. I also use The Turbo Guy and DPF expert who will turn the DPF around in 24 hours. You can also leave all the sensors in it you don’t have to take any of them out cost price is about 150 quid cheaper trade obviously.
The cleaner works best when the car is hot. And will smoke badly if it’s blocked. You can also hold the revs around 2 thousand with your foot , with out doing a regen 1st. Not advisable to the chain is sorted guys.
Great work guys. You two have a huge amount of initiative. As a by the way, I worked in Toyota for a few years and they used the 1ww and 2ww bmw diesel engines in multiple models. The chains gave trouble from time to time. Snap-on have a tool whereby the engine is timed, the old chain is split, connected to replacement chain and engine rotated to bring new chain through. The snap on tool also correctly crimps replacement chain link. Very useful kit. Huge labour saver. If you have a contact in bmw or Toyota, it's worth asking the question.
Take it for a good run the dpf treatment needs a good run plus all the other stuff you've done it'll bed in
When you fitted the tensioner did you pre load it? What i mean is that on this engine when you fit that tensioner, once it is bolted in tight you push hard against the chain towards the tensioner and you will hear a click.. that releases the internal ratchet mechanism to provide constant pressure on the chain. That could be the source of your noise rather than any stretch on the chain, as it seems to be idling ok without timing faults.
Lol
Chris is right - That noise is the chain. That's how mine sounded when it went bad before I changed the chain. The engine sounds fine aside from the chain slapping.
Hello both! What a lot of work and time sorting out the engine, but,a good result as you know that the engine is running and sound apart from the timing chain needs to be replaced. It does amaze me on how you both remember where everything goes back correctly!!! Best wishes from Lincolnshire
Great job as always , always enjoy tuning in on your videos and watching the progress you make on the cars , for a 2 man band you’d don’t half do well with managing your content and projects well done lads
No doubt you’ll both get it sorted in time guys. Great result nonetheless 👏🏻👏🏻 On another note, if you’ve time, could you do a workshop wall tour please ?? Would love to see more of the Top Gun / Terminator stuff you have on the wall 🤞🏻🤞🏻
Nice result, there! I reckon the 'engine condition' fault relates to a dodgy sensor preventing the computer from doing any regens. I'd bet money this car has done lots of short journeys, they've ignored the fault and the car couldn't do a regen, hence the blocked DPF.
When the timing chain is done, take it for a good drive on the motorway , leave it in 4th gear and keep the revs as high as possible - should help clear that dpf.
It’s 4000rpm at 60
Rob you should start a list of your sayings, "Engine was running fine until it broke" 🤣🤣
Presumably replace the timing chain then force a regen of the DPF. Strongly recommend you are outside in open air for the regen as the odours are particularly unpleasant. Ensure sufficient diesel in the tank prior to regen as consumption can increase dramatically.
If there's a load of back pressure could that make the engine rattly?
Notorious for balance shaft problems.
Hello Rob and Chris, well done on getting it started. Thank you for taking the time to upload another video. Ged
Get The autel plugged in and check the DPF pressure sensor reading 👍🏽 DPF can’t be cleaned on the car by a professional.
Landrovers done do a forced static regen I believe I think you can only do a on road regeneration
Copthorne motors at Crawley, have a DPF cleaning machine.
No need to do the regeneration within the car. Don’t know the cost, but will be cheaper than a new engine.
The engine was good before it blew up 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂❤❤❤❤❤❤
Just a thought, you would have been better cleaning DPF first then change the oil because if you do a regen then diesel will go in to the oil.
great video as usual,. But you need to get Chris a mic . Can barely hear him.
YES!!!
He mentioned in previous video that they have wireless mics, they just haven't had a chance to set them up.
@@satianable Sounds like you need an early night mate 😉👍
@@MattyEngland he has a point though
Great video lads the dpf system is a diesel killer👍
Nice 1 guys ....Great vid
Although u tube trolled it with so many adverts 🤦♂️
One of my customers has had a chain at 40k on a 18 plate, I've had luck cleaning dpfs in situ, take top sensor out, fill full of dpf cleaning fluid, start it up with sensor out to reduce back pressure, run it, I've had success with a merc and a xe jag
Luv watching you fellas
wind your way thru these mechanical mazes...
Thanks so Much!
Nice one lads this two chillie engine prob' is now a one chillie ,hopefully sorted soon .
Congratulations on getting it running. It's strange how that bolt came loose though,
Great you got it running. These Ingenium engines are certainly complex to work on and seem quite fragile. I wonder if a lot of diesel engines that get a blocked DPF is because they are driven mainly short distances and the owners don't undertand the need for regular long runs at high speed.
stroke of luck with the engine guys let your man josh do both chains it'll be spot on then keep up the good work
Thanks guys, another good un.
Did the bad vibration from the timing chain cause the bolt to come loose I wonder?
Hi guys, another cracking video, might be worth checked the Air flow/ intake temp sensor / glow plug control module are clearing permanently and not popping back up, faults like that can prevent cars carrying out self regenerate, can’t wait to see the outcome 👌
sensible way forward with the replacement parts great video
Gents, all the faults are because of the DPF. Turbo boost pressure is normally another fault. Those cans of cleaner are OK but for the DPF on that car, you need something like 2.5 litres of it and engine should be warm when you fill. Then leave 45 mins then start is up. Your can did nothing otherwise you would of had foam coming out of the exhaust. Once that’s stops, then do a forced regen and your sorted. Once you clean it, all those faults will clear. Hope that helps.
Gents, I feel for you, as you say if it was easy everyone would be at it, I saw poor Chris’s face when you both heard the chain rattle….chin up boys 👍
Super job as always gents. Get the chain kit on and the dpf cleaned out then will be a great motor for someone for sure.
thankyou gentlemen.your diagnosis and knowledge on all vehicles you repair/restore are very interesting,,👌👌👌
Excellent video guys - just remind me never to purchase anything with one of those engines!! What a pain!!
Well done guys, I think you made the right call TP put it back together and run it up. I'd go for getting the PDF flushed through off the car, then with the faults clear, see how it sounds and maybe a short test drive. All being well, that would just leave the chain issue to resolve
Your supposed to let the Engine run for about 15 Minutes to let the Engine and Exhaust get up to temperature before you spray the Norfest DPF Fluid into the DPF as this helps the Regeneration Process and works better to break down and Clear the Blockage 😁
Glad you will be getting the chain done, because as you said, she just to nice a vehicle to let go the way she is. 👍
Another brilliant video. Many thanks Rob and Chris
Great video gents
I think you need some tee shirts printed up with the “ It was running okay before it broke!” Catch phrase.😅
WELL DONE CHAPS, THANKS FOR THE VIDEO
I am sure you turned the engine over before starting it so risk was minimal. I did think you could have put a dial gauge on the cam you weren't sure of, just to check that all 4 cylinders had equivalent lobe timing. As for the DPF - you need to find out what "conditions" are stopping it happening, on my BMW it wanted a full fuel tank and engine up to temp. a dodgy thermostat was actually keeping it cool and stopping it from regen. Clearly change the chain before running engine much more.
Hi Rob and Chris I really enjoyed this video thank you. Take care both 😌👍
DPFCentre Maidenhead or St Albans - flush to new condition - recommended.
Brilliant video Rob & Chris and some wise decisions on not forcing a regen. 👍👍
You guys got really lucky with this engine, glad to see it finally running and hopefully it won't be too long for the chains to get done. Great video as always!
Great work as usual gents.... The JLR doctors sort out another sick patient! 👍
Glad this is working out for you lads not such a good advert for Land rover tho there cars don't seem to be Very reliable considering what they charge for them.
So glad to hear that you're going to do the chain. Looking forward to the next instalment.
Get the dpf man down get the chain done boom nice flip
