Happy Monday Dr Dray and everyone ! YES ! I have dark circles and its hereaditary . My mom and aunts all had dark cirlces . I have had them too since I was a teen . I try to keep my undereye hydrated but no there are no magic creams . I do use concealer and sometimes a corrector just to minimize it a bit . I am 61 and realize that too heavy a hand will accentuate fine lines and crows feet which can look worse than the circles themselves . Have a great day xoxoxoxo

Hi Mary Ann! I have very dark under eye circles and it look me a long time to realize there were no magic creams to get rid of them. These days I use a eye brighter. Anything more makes them look worse and settles into the lines and wrinkles making things even worse. I've had to make peace with them and stop worrying about them so much. Happy Monday!! There is absolutely no reason to tell anyone that they look tired. It is simply bad manners to do so. If someone is tired, or not tired, it will make them feel worse eitherway.
Just ask yourself are you saying this to make yourself feel better about yourself, or just wanting to make out that you care...even if you have no intention of doing anything to make the person feel better? If you think someone maybe tired, just say something kind, or do something nice for them without telling them why you are doing it.
If someone tells you that you look tired just reply " Oh if you would like to be helpful you can take out the garbage for me". That will stop them. 😆

Hi Nada! Finally, someone who understands!! I have dark circles and can't tell you how often I get told I look tired. You're right, it just makes me feel even more self conscious because I know they're saying that because of the dark circles. Next time someone says it to me I'm going to try your suggested response. @@marylawman8603me too!! I have had dark circles my whole life… it’s familial. My grandmother had them and a couple of my sisters. It’s so hard when I’m already sensitive to them to hear from someone “you look so tired! Did you sleep at all?” Me: nope, this is just how I look. 🙄

I've had a purple vascular dark circle under one eye my whole life and I think it's okay to accept that it will always be there and good makeup is my friend. Not every ugly thing can be fixed and that's okay

Thanks for the detailed explanation of dark circles, Dr Dray. I have been dealing with them for most of my adult life. I have spent a lot of money over the years on various creams and concealers. Took me a long time to realize there wasn't a magic product that would fix or completely cover them. I've learned to accept that they are a part of me and aren't going away. I use an under eye brightening product and cross my fingers. Using concealers makes them look worse and settles in my lines adding to the whole horror effect. Lol! Happy Monday, Dr Dray! I cover mine with Tarte shape tape concealer. I like to use Cera Ve eye cream purple to moisturize. mine look black to me. I have seasonal allergies. I get "you look tired" all the time. Thank you for educating us Dr. Dray.

types of dark circles (can overlap)
1. pigmented (brown-ish)
2. vascular (purple, deep dark brown)
3. structural (skin-colored)
how to distinguish:
- stretch the skin
-- pigmented will remain unchanged
-- structural will improve/coloring will go away
-- with vascular the pink/violet coloring will intensify

I got fkn tired from them. Some days are better than others but still, they're there. Nothing an orange concealer can't fix. So my only problem is when my orange concealer just finished and I forgot to buy a new one. 😅
I just use the tip by Doctor Andrea with the cicaplast gel b5 and i feel the area around my eyes so hydrated and even waking up in the morning i don't feel the puffiness that I've been feeling without using cicaplast gel 😊❤. Now it has become a habit applying cicaplast around my eyes❤.

I found one on eyelid eczema she has because I was looking for the reason for my eyelid dermatitis. Driving me crazy...it's new for me.

Just cruising through Amazon Basics to see if there are any good deals and I was surprised that I didn't know they have a whole line of their own skincare products including a retinol serum, SA cleanser, Vitamin C Serum and many more. Thanks Dr. Mine were severe due to age, and sun damage. One eye much darker than the other. So bad it looked like Melasma but wasn't. 4mo. ago I started treating it with Mary & May eye cream nightly when I remembered.
3mo ago I added Numbuzin No.5 Concentrate after cleansing nightly before M&M. 1mo. ago I added Beauty of Joseon Revive Eye. Some nights using M&M, some BoJ, and some even both about 30m-1hr apart.
All while still using Numbuzin No.5 after cleansing before the eye treatments. I now have it under control sorta. I'd say the "black eye" is about 65% gone which is pretty damn good. My eyes look more even now when looking at me. 🌞

If I use any type of eye cream with caffeine in it, my under eyes get so sunken in and dark looking. Idk what’s up with that. Happened with the ordinary caffeine serum too so I know it isn’t the thickness of a cream that causes it.

Sadly sunken eyes can only be fixed with filler which is my problem. Anatomical structure cause I’ve high cheekbones so fat doesn’t sit well
We should all stay far, far away from fillers. They last much longer than anyone ever thought, and can move from one part of the face to another. There are many vids by doctors explaining this phenomenon.

I have dark circles because I have tried to lighten them with products and unfortunately when even the slightest of sunlight zaps those spots, they get darker. It's ridiculous. I have to be more on point with the sunscreen. Finally found one that doesn't irritate me.
Is the irritation you’re referring to is the stinging of the eyes? I recommend using a mineral sunscreen instead of a chemical one

Dark circles run in my family. Mine are not very dark . I’ve noticed using HYDROQUINONE ( not directly on my under eye area) they have gotten a bit lighter . I’m not sure if it is migrating or I’m imagining things. 😅 .

I've also heard another way to determine types of dark circles is by standing in front of a bright window. If the pigment disappears is vascular and if it's still there it's pigment. Is that accurate? Also, what about using peptide combos like Eyeliss (for puffiness) and Haloxyl (firm/tone/anti-inflammatory) for eyes?

My dark circles dissapeared after my hysterectomy, I know that after the surgery, my family members told me that I looked like a sleeping beauty 😊 i was in my thirties...
Which cream is best for dark circles. AM/Pm? Tried so many. Also puffy some days that won't cause those nasty white bumps forgot what it's called. I know it won't go away I'd like moisture and prevent more wrinkles if possible.
i feel like this topic is so much more complicated than most skincare concerns...i have dark circles but am not sure what kind. i will try stretching thn skin and see if that helps me narrow it down.

Can a deviated nasal septum cause dark circles or bags under the eyes?
I’m not a doctor, but if it causes sleep apnea, it would. I was just diagnosed with sleep apnea. Maybe try a sleep study? And also saline spray could help too (I believe Dr. Dray mentioned this before)

I came to the conclusion that mine are genetic, but I almost thought I was crazy because one eye seems darker. Now, that you mentioned it, it's a lot to process. Could you or someone here please spell the phrase you use? ..oda? I'm not native and I want to google it but I can't capture the spelling 😅
Plastic Surgery resident here. We put a little implant on the ridge of your eye socket (bottom part, called the infraorbital rim). I have seen this permanently get rid of dark circles in patients who opted for it. I would recommend that some of you look into this procedure!
