@@benjamin_burke You can, but it means that you have to substantiate your criticism because the N64 had a huge influence on development of a design language for 3D games
Early 3D is actually my favourite graphic style, but only if some parts of the game are 2D. Games like Symphony of the Night and Suikoden II just look so elegant, while games like Final Fantasy VIII and Resident Evil are impressive. The N64 didn't quite achieve this as good as the PS1, but this game looks nice so I might have to give it a try sometime.
I agree. Final Fantasy VIII was certainly impressive for it's time. And yes..even to this day, CastleVania: SotN is still my favourite 2D videogame from. I was also addicted to Suikoden II.
@4:58 "I mean what other game allows you to ride a cat while catching missiles and throwing them back at enemies" You forgot to mention that the cat you are riding is ALSO riding a missile, too!

As always, you make a great case for obscure action-platformers with creative mechanics. I've been sitting on this game for ages despite being a huge Treasure nut-maybe it's time to finally give it a proper go. Knowing it gets better later is definitely great info.
This game looks amazing. Thanks for shedding light on it! I also share your hate of the N64, but have you considered doing a video on F-Zero X? My favorite racing game, the only reason I want a N64.
I remember skipping this game every time I went to rental stores, because of the "scary" cover, and only after playing it any way I could I realized my mistake. This is a good game overall (not as good as the general internet people say it is, thought), but my highlights of the game are the boss fights. Each fight gets more and more creative with Marina's grab, culminating in a fight against freaking Megazord! One of my favorite final boss ever! Great video as always. And I hope you have a great rest of your day, too! PS: Am I the only person who likes the N64 controller? Aside from the flimsy stick, it is the most confortable controller I ever used, and it still good to hold today (unlike the progressively smaller controllers Nintendo dished out later. Curse you, Joy-Cons!).
I had a video rental place by my house when I was a kid, they got Japanese n64 games there so you could play games way before the American release... They had mystical ninja, star fox an this game (Yuke Yuke Troublemakers). I liked the game so much that I told them I lost the game and paid $50 to "replace" it. This is an incredible game, honestly one of my favorite games ever. I love that there's an old school 2d platform for n64! Definitely a "Treasure" 😎
I really enjoyed the hell out of this game. It was one I'd never heard of, but grandma got it for my brother. Took awhile to get used to it, but it was fun. Going for the gold I mentioned in another comment was a good challenge. Get no hit on bosses or get through that maze were the hardest ones. Really obscure gem in my opinion

I'm having a blast going back to older games that I never got to experience as a kid/teenager. Suikoden is my current game at the moment. great game if you grew up playing and enjoying those 2d traditional JRPGs.
Definitely a great game. Very unique in all aspects and fun to see what kind of weird stuff they will throw at you next while you SHAKESHAKE all the time.
this has been my favorite game for 20+ years and it'll continue to be my favorite game
Such an addictive game! Unique atmosphere, lovable characters, awesome soundtrack! I keep playing and playing it!
This game is super cool, definitely worth it!
I got this game long time ago and was not expecting to love it as much as i did. Truly a hidden treasure.
Love coming home to a new snesdrunk after a shitty night at work
It took me forever to remember, let alone actually FIND this game. The whole thing felt like a fever dream.
I was so caught off guard by this game when I played it on the 64 that I fell in love with it . It's one of my favorite 64 titles
Mario 64 was literally revolutionary though
So? That doesn’t mean that you can’t complain about 3D platformers on N64 in general
@@benjamin_burke You can, but it means that you have to substantiate your criticism because the N64 had a huge influence on development of a design language for 3D games
Nice review. I loved this game. Hard to get all the gold gems. I had to pay one of my friends back in the day to do it. Good times.
Im jobless atm, will happily collect all gold gems for you for cash. PS love your channel
The N64 controller was definitely a interesting idea very unique but I can't think of Goldeneye 64 without it...
@4:58 "I mean what other game allows you to ride a cat while catching missiles and throwing them back at enemies"
You forgot to mention that the cat you are riding is ALSO riding a missile, too!
i saw this at toys r us as a kid and we bought it based only on the box art (as we did in the 90s)...this game was great!
This is literally my number one favorite game of all time thank you for the review
i still remember the cramps in my forearm, brutal button sequences in this one. still a great game.
This game is an absolute gem that I rented only once when I was a kid and didn't quite grasp how good it was, but wish I had more time to play it now as an adult.
Wowowoooow! I can't believe you reviewed this! This was one of the first games I got for the n64 when it came out, along with Mario 64. I completely forgot this game existed... Such a strange game haha, but I do know my young self completed it in its entirety. Nostalgia :)
I only have one thing to say: "Shake, shake!!!"
Maaaan, that racing level took me forever
Gah yes!
I played this at a Funcoland forever ago. Loved the brief time I spent with it.
Have owned this game for years. It's one of my absolute faves for the system.
P.S. SHAKE! SHAKE!
2.5D is such an underrated artstyle! This game looks amazing
One of my favorite n64 games. So quirky and you never know what the next level is gonna be like.
My brother was obsessed with this game when we were kids. It's Def on his top five N64 games
Really obscure gem in my opinion
this was the first N64 video game i rented from the video store and i had to bring it back because i had no idea how to play it. Thanks to your video i don't have to go back and play this haha
I rented this. Absolutely loved it. Wondered why I never saw another one like this again.
This was my first game ever when I got the nintendo 64 for my 7th birthday. This was the only game I had for a long time.
This was my first Blockbuster rental for my N64. Loved it.
Wow this brought back some memories. I find myself saying "shake shake" to this day, but have never for the life of me been able to remember where I got it from. Mystery solved!!!
I loved when my dad would come home and play this game ❤
"It takes seemingly forever to get going" -- that explains why I had trouble getting hooked. I intend on playing through this one eventually.
This game has been on my need-to-play list for a long time.
I love that game. Once it going it was a lot of fun. The only draw back was the one life. Thanks for doing a review o this game. Good to know I’m not the only one who played it.
Such a dope game. I need to add this one back into my 64 collection
I feel like this is actually a hidden gem. Okay, lots of people know about this game and everbody knows its quite good. But not enough people appreciate it enough for all the gameplay elements imo. I remember it getting not higher than 7/10 ratings back in the day
I remember this one. It was a great rental back in the day
Man I loved playing this when it came out I think it was 1999. Probably the best platformer I played on n64 but there was few platformers to begin with which was disappointing. But iirc it was quiet short and easy. But goddamn watching this has really brought back the memories man thanks for this video.
