Dude fr. I haven't read the book since middle school but thats the chapter that sticks to my mind the most. That and the people who somehow convinced themselves that they're zombies and act like them. It really creeped me out
The age old wisdom of "Your army is only trained and equipped to fight the last war" which in 2007, or thereabouts, would have been the guys who fought Saddam and were Occupying the middle east
entertaining but humanity is doomed if we couldnt figure out in a day or so that only head shots count also artillery and .50 cal would have a lot better effect than the book states.

The dead have no fear, feel no pain, and had numbers. Everyone of us that they killed became one of them. It's hard to imagine how it actually would go in reality but I believe the book gets pretty close.
The one about people swimming to boats was insane. Reanimating after drowning or on a boat and killing everyone. Not to mention the people ferrying others back and forth knowing they could be killed
Max was on Coast-to-Coast AM and they did an interview doing it like it was an actual interview talking about how it all started and how certain Country's did the best. It was very well done we were on a road trip and listened to it.
I really love this novel. It doesn't work as a movie but perfectly well like a mini series like The Band of Brothers. Each episode starts in an interview of the survivors recounting their stories and after a short while we are brought to the actual events. There are so many important things and series of events that the movie overlooked due to time constraints and it is a shame.
While l agree with you that it should be made into a series, to start it with interviews would make it less appealing to audiences who aren't as familiar with the format of the book. There needs to be some ambiguity as to whether or not a character will survive. An interview preceeding the action removes that ambiguity and therefore will lose viewers. There has to be stakes higher than a witnessed observation. Writing a screen play, be it TV or film, based on any book isn't as easy or simple as it may seem. However it is possible to adapt it and l, personally, would love to be a part of that.
I love this book. I’ve read it twice and was appalled by that travesty movie which has zero to do with the book. I hope one day somebody makes a movie that is actually based on the book.
I thought HBO or showtime could do it in a series format. Each person's account getting it's own show with wanios's(misspelled) story being the common thread.
A masterpiece. For all above 16 or so, a true gem in the sea of Z books. I was glued from the start. Lost for words and praise. And it's not just for z fans. A masterpiece !
Everyone talks about the Battle of Yonkers but the chapter that shakes me to the core is the shipbreakers chapter in India. People flooding to what they think is a port but it's a ship breaker yard and tens of thousands of people dieing to zombies try to flee onto ships but as people drown the water becomes saturated with the undead and they drag people down as everyone panicks. Then that ship splits in half and drags the other ship down killing unknown amounts of people. That chapter by itself can be entire story by itself its so horrifying
I just finished part 1, I’ve been listening to it on car rides. I agree with you about the shipbreaker yard story. I didn’t realize this wasn’t a traditional Novel and was instead a collection of interviews from survivors of the war from all over the world. Almost every chapter I have heard/read so far is a short story on its own. So really, in my opinion, this book is a collection of short stories presented to the reader as a way to show the entire human experience of a world war. This book is especially eerie after living through the coronavirus pandemic. Lots of details are so familiar to things we have all recently experienced; especially how the media and celebrities react to it.
For me it was the red haired girl. After the lady shouted save the children you could hear stabs and punches as well as the kids crying which I think signifies then killing the kids so they dont become zombies, I think what reinforces this is the fact that the Pastor's wife threw her daughter onto a wall and the daughter stopped moving.
I would highly suggest to everyone that they purchase the actual audiobook with multiple great actors putting in truly awesome performances. Alan Alda still stands as my favorites, and Henry Rollins’s part was great too.

I had owned the audio book for the past 2 years, but I had the edition that is voiced by celebrities; The version I had was missing so many chapters that its criminal. I'm glad I found this.
This is the older and my preferred version of World War Z. The current version on audible (which I own) has superb production values and that creates a nice atmosphere; audio effects and different narrators for each character including actors. Unfortunately, it is also abridged and does not include the footnotes and technical, social, historical, and political footnotes that lend further credentials to the air of authenticity to the book. Either way this is a superb book and if you are only familiar with the Brad Pitt movie then be prepared for something completely different and a galaxy more relevant. Put it this way, this book came out in 2006 and deals with a disease that started in China, was mishandled and had its existence suppressed by the CCP, which lead to draconian policies to reinforce the supremacy of the Party which allowed the infection to spread into a world wide pandemic. That is just the start - this book is a deep commentary on social, political, geopolitical, demographic, environmental, and military problems that is unendingly salient. Think the resurgence of Russian central authoritarianism backed by traditional orthodoxy bent on recreating the old Russian Empire is an issue today Oct 2022? There's chapter in World War Z. Think the detachment from reality and sense of responsibility is a problem in contemporary society? That conspiracy theories and greed are undermining democratic institutions? There's a chapter in World War Z... and on and on.
It is scary how close he was to what would happen and the Rona was no where near any way shape or form as dangerous as this fictional disease. I love this book
I read the book before seeing the movie. Not taking anything away from the movie because I thought it was definitely one of the best zombie movies ever made, but the book is just straight up addictive. I’ve read it 5 times. Will probably read it another 5 times.
This is the first, and by far the best zombie/apocalypse book I've ever heard. I've listened to many and have yet to hear one that describes so well what it would be like when society falls apart.
The battle of Yonkers was fucking metal to hear bro. I can visualize it my head so well and it’s terrifying to think about. Fear is a bitch, this book tells me that fear is our greatest enemy. A lot of death and destruction could have been reduced if everybody had a cool head.
WWZ was the only book I had during basic training it was before I was able to go on pass and buy other books. I read it over and over for six weeks straight it’s still one of my favorites. My daughter is the reason why we are listening to the audiobook now trying to show her things I loved before I was a old man (35)
I love this book because it’s timeless. There are very few indicators of when this book was written, name around here 2:33:44, when she mentions her AOL account lol.
Listening to the description of Abby being thrown against the wall, and Sharon's mom strangling her is the most uncomfortable and freaked out I have ever felt from a piece of media
@@jayjones5756 it seems to always fuckin go that way with hollweird. It could have been such an amazing series and fans all around would've been hungry for more. They would make MORE money if they don't do this shit but again and again they fart on as they do
Sorry to dissapoint you but no it didn't. The movie became very successful and is considered a box office hit. As much as I'd like to have a series with a faithful adaptation of the book I don't think it'd work in a movie format. Hollywood execs called it right and played it safe from a business perspective. But now I'm dissapointed from the fact that we probably won't get any future installments both in a possible series/docu style and movie form due to China banning all kind of media with zombies and Ghost. It's a fact that canceled the movie sequel in the first place
That Kansas little girl' story broke me, getting a perspective from a child on a zombie apocalyptic scenario is horrifying and sad, I never gave it a thought before.

This is without a doubt in my top 10 books of all time...it's a masterpiece that i didn't want to end and is so good that i actually was pretty upset about the movie not being a more faithful adaptation(and i do understand the daunting task of adapting it to a movie) and usually i don't get upset about adaptations..though the movie was good(much better than i thought it would be especially after the behind the scenes issues) its really nowhere near as good as the book..it's been almost 9 years since the movie came out so i doubt we'll ever get a sequel but maybe in another 15 years we can get a remake that's more close to this amazing book...Max Brooks really needs to give us some more books
The Manitoba part hit hard, one of the best chapters. When the teenage girl said that winter hit hard, the yelling stopped, the camp got silent and by Chistmas day suddenly there was plenty to eat (implying canabalism) ... blood froze in my veines

We are fucked if shit hits the fan. Listening to the reactions of both nations and people Im like dumbfounded that this is too accurate and real. Whats worse this was written well over a decade ago, are we this predictable?
I still remember I got this book when I was twelve and my dad blew my mind when he told me about about how Max Brooks is Mel Brooks’ nephew lol, insane talent in that family

Not perfect, but a great read. Interesting how the first chapter almost predicts how Covid started, and how Israel didn't head Brooks' theory about the country thinking every possible way of being attacked, unlike what happened on Oct 27, 2023. Also with all the gun owners in the Midwest and South, I think the initial panic may have been different.
I really want someone to make a novelty SIR rifle. But it doesn’t make any sense that they’d have to make an entirely new rifle during such unrest. There’s like 20 million ar 15s in civilian hands alone, and something like 3 trillion rounds in consumer hands.
I always pictured the SIR in my head as a modified civilian AR-15 variant, which makes sense on the semi-auto only function of the gun (which won't require any special modification) and an overall simplification of parts to make it more rugged, and cheaper to be manufactured en-masse
Anyone who has ever built an AR15, which is millions of people will tell you there isn’t one rifle out there that is easier to build. And you could have poverty pony parts and it will run. As long as you have a decent barrel nut and correct head spacing, which there’s about 50 foot pounds of torque to play with. Honestly I could build a set up that could take the zombie horde and keep the gun and all of its accessories not including Ammo under 1200 bucks and it’ll probably last 50,00 rounds
Dude you are probably from a country that isn’t even allowed to own guns shut up you have no idea what you’re talking about. But yes the AK is awesome I got three
Love the book. Hated the movie. I honestly think this book would be better supported as a tv show. Do in depth an episode for each survivor account to really get into depth of the characters and each counties account for the measures taken.

The Battle of Yonkers
One of the best chapters in any book ever.
I can literally feel the fear that that guy felt when the line broke.
Dude fr. I haven't read the book since middle school but thats the chapter that sticks to my mind the most. That and the people who somehow convinced themselves that they're zombies and act like them. It really creeped me out
The age old wisdom of
"Your army is only trained and equipped to fight the last war" which in 2007, or thereabouts, would have been the guys who fought Saddam and were Occupying the middle east
entertaining but humanity is doomed if we couldnt figure out in a day or so that only head shots count also artillery and .50 cal would have a lot better effect than the book states.
@@rightside1911 He explains that they did not have enough. They ran out and the dead kept coming. He also explains that their morale was destroyed when they saw that the dead just did not stop and that the satellite system showed them they were fighting millions of zombies, not thousands.
@@rightside1911 also, the line broke. They were overtaken and flanked, everyone panicked and made a run for it. That guys's 2nd chapter further explains what happened.
"Don't worry, everything's going to be alright." I don't know why, but that bit always stuck with me.
"Don't worry everything is going to be alright"
"It was at this point I knew we were totally f***^*d" is pretty much what he was trying to say lol
Every time I remember that part, it makes me so emotional. The desperation laced in his words is what gets me
That chapter shook me

I really love this novel. It doesn't work as a movie but perfectly well like a mini series like The Band of Brothers. Each episode starts in an interview of the survivors recounting their stories and after a short while we are brought to the actual events. There are so many important things and series of events that the movie overlooked due to time constraints and it is a shame.
This^
It wasn't due to time constrains, it was due to someone shoving their ideas and replacing the source material.
HBO could acruallt make rhat sork.
@@SeanHartnett-t8cWhat????
They really should remake the movie, for sure.

16? I was watching dawn of the dead at age 5 lol
I'm a huge fan of Z books....tried this and the new version and can not get into it all.
By far the best chapter in the book in my opinion
For me it was the red haired girl. After the lady shouted save the children you could hear stabs and punches as well as the kids crying which I think signifies then killing the kids so they dont become zombies, I think what reinforces this is the fact that the Pastor's wife threw her daughter onto a wall and the daughter stopped moving.
It's literally like a undead Indian Dunkirk
@@danmurphy8816 I mean it is an oral history that is how oral histories work.

@@christopherrobbins0 The episode dedicated to the shipbreaking yards would be the horrific reveal of the extent of the disaster.

The lesson we learned is that Israeli intelligence is an oxymoron.
Just get an AK and don't modify anything, last you 50,000rds ,just clean it every 5,000, not like that American ar shit.
